The unemployment rate rose to 4.3 percent in July, and nonfarm payroll employment edged up by 114,000, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment continued to trend up in health care, in construction, and in transportation and warehousing, while information lost jobs. <Source> [OCS: What they don’t say: “The unemployment rate rose to 4.3 percent—its highest level in nearly three years when the economy was still clawing its way back from the pandemic.” While great for headlines, these reports are adjusted months later when nobody notices, and the media is free to bury the news. From the footnotes: The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for May was revised down by 2,000, from +218,000 to +216,000, and the change for June was revised down by 27,000, from +206,000 to +179,000. With these revisions, employment in May and June combined is 29,000 lower than previously reported. Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign is blaming former President Trump for the latest negative jobs report — nearly a full term after he left office. “Donald Trump failed Americans as president, costing our economy millions of jobs, and bringing us to the brink of recession,” Harris for President spokesperson James Singer said in a statement. [OCS: President Donald Trump handed over a sharply recovering economy to Joe Biden, which he promptly destroyed by curtailing the energy production that drives our economy, inviting hordes of illegal aliens to cross our borders, and signing massive spending bills into law.] “Now, he’s promising even more damage with a Project 2025 agenda that will decimate the middle class and increase taxes on working families, while ripping away health care, raising prescription drug costs, and cutting Social Security and Medicare — all while making his billionaire donors richer.” [OCS: Project 2025 was a product of the Heritage Foundation and was disavowed by former President Trump.
