FBI CRIME STATISTICS: FIGURES DON'T LIE, BUT LIARS DO FIGURES

After what we have seen with a corrupt, corporatized legacy media, a highly politicized Department of Justice and its investigatory appendage, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the selective prosecutions of state and local prosecutors, one can only conclude that, at the very least, the statistics are incomplete and highly misleading.

Why does the public think it's going up? "There is definitely more disorder in cities than there was five years ago," said one expert. "People confuse disorder and crime."

By Ken Dilanian

New FBI data confirms previous indications that crime in the U.S. declined significantly in 2023, continuing a post-pandemic trend and belying widespread perceptions that crime is rising.

The new fourth-quarter numbers showed a 13% decline in murder in 2023 from 2022, a 6% decline in reported violent crime and a 4% decline in reported property crime. That's based on data from around 13,000 law enforcement agencies, policing about 82% of the U.S. population, that provided the FBI with data through December.

"It suggests that when we get the final data in October, we will have seen likely the largest one-year decline in murder that has ever been recorded," said Jeff Asher, a former CIA analyst who now studies crime trends.

Can you believe what you are reading?

One, highly politicized NBC News, along with its MSNBC cable affiliate, has proven to be one of the most left-biased news reporting outlets in the legacy media—often considered a propaganda appendage of the Democratic Party. And Ken Dilanian has a reputation of being a hack flack for accepting at face value the talking points and top-line press releases from intelligence and law enforcement agencies.

Two, you cannot rely on the statistics reported to the FBI by specific local and state agencies who choose not to report or significantly underreport their crime statistics. The vast discrepancy between the original criminal charges and the resultant plea-bargained lesser charges is inherent in the statistical analysis. These are accepted to reduce prosecution workloads, minimize incarcerations, and assure ginned-up conviction numbers for office-seeking prosecutors. No more significant discrepancies can be found than in the reporting of gun-related crimes, where gun charges are often dropped in favor of a reduced charge plea bargain, especially among the minority community.

Are they cooking the numbers?

UCR-HDRlargeCrime/Law Enforcement Stats (Uniform Crime Reporting Program)

The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program generates reliable statistics for use in law enforcement. It also provides information for students of criminal justice, researchers, the media, and the public. The program has been providing crime statistics since 1930.

The UCR Program includes data from more than 18,000 city, university and college, county, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement agencies. Agencies participate voluntarily and submit their crime data either through a state UCR program or directly to the FBI's UCR Program.

Map-participation

A map of the United States with the addition of five U.S. territories shows whether each state and territory was fully transitioned to NIBRS (represented by dark blue) or not fully transitioned to NIBRS (represented by light blue) in 2022.

The 21 states that were fully transitioned to NIBRS in 2022 include Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oki ah oma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia.

The 29 states that were not fully transitioned to NIBRS in 2022 include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Of the five U.S. territories shown on the map, Guam was fully transitioned to NIBRS in 2022. The four territories that were not fully transitioned to NIBRS in 2022 include American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Washington, D.C., includes agencies that directly contribute their crime data via NIBRS to the UCR Program.

The numbers they don't want to count…

There is no doubt in most people's minds that the Democrat regime is unwilling to track criminal activities perpetrated by minorities and illegal aliens lest it highlight a disproportionate minority crime rate, especially in Democrat-governed inner cities, or the continuing invasion of the United States by an undesirable segment illegally present at the behest of the Democrat Party.

Unlike what most people think, the Democrats are not taking the long view and counting on illegal aliens becoming citizens; they want to bulk up the census counts in Democrat areas to increase the number of Democrats sent to the House of Representatives, which controls the nation's purse strings and originates most of its legislation. As for minorities, it is simply a matter of pandering to the core constituency of the Democrat Party.

Bottom line…

Figures may not lie, but liars do figure. Or in the words of Mark Twain, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

We are so screwed, primarily when politicized numbers are used to formulate or justify public policies.
