THIRD 2024 GOP CIRCUS AUDITION
Once again, the feckless Republican National Committee, under the direction of squish Ronna Romney McDaniel, turns the GOP debate hosting over to the progressive communist democrats at NBC “News.” And to give the appearance of fairness, it allows a “conservative,” Salem Radio Network’s Hugh Hewitt, to “join” the hosts, “NBC Nightly News” anchor Lester Holt and “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker.
Five Republican presidential hopefuls, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, will be fighting to give the appearance as a viable alternative to former President Donald Trump whose massive margin allows him to skip the debate.
Truth be told, Smarmy Ramaswamy, blowhard Christie, and milquetoast nice guy Scott have no place on tonight’s debate if you can legitimately call it a debate.
Good production values and decent moderation with little crosstalk and a rather wooden Hugh Hewitt.
Nothing we haven’t heard before -- tough talk, promises that require Congressional majorities, and bickering.
- DeSantis: service above self.
- Haley: it’s on Ramaswamy. The establishment candidate, George Bush in a dress. China-hawk despite her own record. Lies about DeSantis.
- Ramaswamy: lecture, hector, attack -- I’m the smartest person in the room. Totally inauthentic.
- Scott: I’m a nice guy and stand for American values.
- Christie: Meh!
A message to the RNC...
Of course, if you want to keep your paycheck as an RNC advisor...
Bottom line…
While there is no doubt that the Democrats have a “Biden” problem, there is also no doubt that the Republicans have a “brand” problem. Agree or not, Democrats know what the party stands for and supports. In contrast, Republicans have no such understanding when it comes to the Republican Party, where everything is a finger-in-the-wind poll along with a fundraising pitch.
After tonight’s debate, perhaps the debate hosting facility should be renamed the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Under-Performing Arts in Miami, Florida.
We are so screwed.
