On the eve of Israel launching a major invasion into Gaza, it is time to set aside rhetoric and acknowledge that more than 53% of Gazans supported a bellicose Hamas as its governing body —- an entity whose charter calls for the total annihilation of Israel.
A barbaric entity who hides behind women and children and truly believes that death in the service of their religion is the key to paradise. All the while their leadership lives in Luxury in nations outside the Gaza Strip.
The world has just witnessed the single worst loss of civilian life in Israel's history. A tragedy feted in Gaza, around the world, and quietly by some in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the asswipe who refuses to provide sanctuary to his fellow Muslims seeking a path out of the combat zone, has the chutzpah to criticize Israel: "The reaction went beyond the right to self-defense, turning into collective punishment."
It is hard to separate the terrorists, not covered under the Geneva Convention or the generally accepted rules of engagement, from the hostages and civilians they use as human shields. Likewise, placing weaponry in private homes, schools, hospitals, and Mosques to create a deterrent or photo op is against international conventions.
Going forward is the only option.
A return to some form of negotiated or tacit detente, some form of easing the hostilities to protect civilians that would leave Hamas entirely in charge of Gaza, is unacceptable.
It has been tried in the past and led to continuing rocket attacks and terrorist activity. Now, with the support of Iran and others, Hamas was able to build up enough strength to launch a significant sophisticated attack on Israel.
Bottom line...
We are facing evil, and history will record our choices and whom we choose to support.
We are so screwed.
