Remarks by President Biden on Medicare and the Inflation Reduction Act
SEPTEMBER 27, 2022

You know, I want to share the progress that we’ve seen and been making to bring down the healthcare costs and strengthen Medicare, which is, for so many seniors, the only thing they can rely upon. And we’ve worked really hard to maintain it.

A big cost — a big cost and a big concern for most folks is prescription drugs and other healthcare. Reducing that cost and concern is one of my top priorities.

That’s why I signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act — one of the most significant laws in our history. I finally — it finally delivers on the promises that many of us have made in this audience as well that the American people have had to undergo for decades that we’re going to change.

[OCS: The Inflation Reduction Act will not reduce inflation, and it is a misnamed vehicle for implementing part of the progressive communist democrat’s “Green New Deal.” Far from being “one of the most significant laws in our history.” it is one of the most damaging bills. No matter what Biden says, inflation, the hidden tax, is eroding the value of your money, so you are paying more for less.]

For example, we pay more for prescription drugs than any other advanced nation in the world. And there’s no good reason for it. For years, many of us have been trying to fix this problem. But, for years — for years, Big Pharma has stood in the way.

[OCS: Because the U.S. not only subsidizes research and development, it also subsidizes the cost of drugs through our humanitarian aid packages, other countries profit from our intellectual capital.

The drug companies charge what the market will bear, and by the market, I mean what the insurance companies and pharmacy benefit management companies will accept. The greater the price, the greater the kickbacks to the pharmacy benefit managers. Big Pharma did stand in the way; they bought corrupt politicians to pass favorable legislation and kill unfavorable and costly mandates.]

Not this year. This year, the American people won, and Big Pharma lost. (Applause.)

Look, after years of Big Pharma blocking it, Medicare will finally get the power to negotiate lower prescription drug prices. Seniors will see their out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs be limited — as this comes into full force — to $2,000 a year. (Applause.)  No senior will have to pay more than — on Medicare — pay more than $2,000 for all their prescriptions, whether it’s cancer drugs or anything else.

[OCS: Politicians use the word negotiate like it is a panacea. They are, in reality, negotiating with themselves as directed by pharmaceutical industry lobbyists.]

And this morning, we got more even good news about lowering costs. The Department of Health and Human Services announced that the premium for Part B will, in fact, decrease this [upcoming] year. That’s a fee you pay — (applause) — that’s a fee you pay for Medicare to cover your visits to your doctor.

[OCS: I call bullshit! The Biden Administration increased Part B premiums by 14.5% this year, attributing the increase to the demand for Biogen’s Alzheimer’s drug, Aduhelm. The truth is the Biden Administration restricted access to the costly drug Aduhelm early this year – which means Medicare recipients were overcharged for this year’s premiums and denied access to a life-prolonging drug.

Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which oversees Medicare, notes, “The 2022 premium included a contingency margin to cover projected Part B spending for a new drug, Aduhelm. Lower-than projected spending on both Aduhelm and other Part B items and services resulted in much larger reserves.

The scam is that Biden's Department of Health and Human Services takes credit for redressing the estimated 2.8% overcharge with a 3% reduction in premiums. But you are still being screwed as the standard monthly Medicare premium next year will still be $16.40 higher than in 2021.

And it gets worse; look for a reduction in the research and development of promising drugs and the rationing of other, as yet unspecified drugs. As for price controls, watch the pharmaceutical industry cost shift to other uncontrolled drugs to recoup decreased profits.]

For years, that fee has gone up. Now, for the first time in more than a decade, it’s going to go down. And millions of seniors and people with disabilities on Medicare, that means more money in their pockets while still getting the care they need.

And on top of that, if you have Medicare’s prescription drug coverage Part D, you pay for your prescriptions more than — you pay — you pay for your prescriptions, more of your shots will also be free. We’re getting rid of the cost of the prescriptions and bringing them way down.

[OCS: Nothing is free, the taxpayer pays the full freight – less the vigorish, the government’s slice of the action.]

<Source>

Bottom line…

An addlepated President Biden is claiming credit for a modest decline in Medicare premiums but says nothing about rationing Aduhelm, a new Alzheimer’s drug, and making other compensatory adjustments.

Notice nothing was said about the billions of dollars in waste, fraud, and abuse. Nothing was said about increasing the number of fraud inspectors while the IRS gets a new army of auditors. And no mention of automated systems that can track claims submitted by doctors, facilities, and durable equipment providers whose reimbursements can easily be red-flagged for suspicious activity, much like bank suspicious activity reports.

To believe that these small victories are a net positive for Medicare recipients in the face of exploding inflation and increased healthcare rationing is truly a leap of faith in self-licking lollipops and unicorns with rainbow farts.

We are so screwed.

HOW YOU KNOW YOU'VE BEEN PLAYED

Biden-45

You know you are being played...

  1. When Democrats make demands but offer nothing in return.
  2. All of the "errors" seem to break in favor of Democrats.
  3. When Democrats offer legislation without penalties or an enforcement mechanism.
  4. When Democrats answer to allegations of wrongdoing with whoops, my bad!
  5. When a Democrat bill has a title with the opposite meaning.
  6. When Democrats project their bad behavior onto their opposition.
  7. When you are pitched by a senile old fool mouthing words written on a teleprompter by an Obama acolyte.

Bottom line…

Any time you are dealing with a Democrat, you are being played!

Republicans may not have all the answers or repair things quickly, but it was Democrats at the root of all our current problems.

WAS THERE EVER A TIME WHEN THE RICH SUFFERED MORE THAN THE POOR AND MINORITIES?

[NOTE: Sorry! My hosting platform, used by many Fortune 500 corporations, suffered a temporary failure yesterday. The blog entry "CALIFORNIA'S HOMELESS HUSTLE" is available on the OCS website.]

Epa-dsa

There is no doubt in my mind that the environmental movement has been thoroughly infiltrated by fifth-column communists who wish to destroy America from within. The movement not only funds our enemies using taxpayer funds but also allows the evildoers to use our laws against us to limit our economic growth and beneficial progress. When examined closely, the environmentalists are not only de-growthers but a metastasizing malignancy to implement wealth redistribution and control the levers of power within our government. A political agenda far outside the original goals of curtailing pollution and providing good stewardship for our natural resources.

To this end, the communists have assumed operational control over the Democrat Party and Republican establishment and globalist malefactors.

The Environmental Protection Agency, a toxic governmental communist instrument …

Epa-1EPA Launches New National Office Dedicated to Advancing Environmental Justice and Civil Rights

EPA's historic Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights will position the agency to better advance environmental justice, enforce civil rights laws in overburdened communities, and deliver new grants and technical assistance

EPA announced that it is establishing a new national office charged with advancing environmental justice and civil rights. The creation of the new Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights delivers on President Biden's commitment to elevate these critical issues to the highest levels of the government and solidifies the agency's commitment to delivering justice and equity for all.

[OCS: I was unaware of the extent to which an agency dedicated initially to protecting the environment, including land, water, and air, has now been radicalized into a civil rights enforcement agency with police powers.]

The new office will dedicate more than 200 EPA staff in EPA headquarters and across 10 regions towards solving environmental challenges in communities that have been underserved for far too long. These staff will engage with communities with environmental justice concerns to understand their needs, as well as Tribal, state, and local partners; manage and disburse historic levels of grants and technical assistance; work with other EPA offices to incorporate environmental justice into the agency's programs, policies, and processes, as allowed by law; and ensure EPA funding recipients comply with applicable civil rights laws. The office will be led by a U.S. Senate-confirmed Assistant Administrator, to be announced at a later date.

[OCS:  Toxic pollution is toxic pollution, period! The politically-connected elites created and enforced NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) policies and invented pollution offset credits that allowed gross polluters to continue polluting local areas after purchasing climate indulgences created by planting trees in a remote rainforest.]

"President Biden and I have been clear: we must ground our work to address the climate crisis and our greatest environmental challenges in justice and equity," said Vice President Kamala Harris. "The establishment of a new office dedicated to advancing environmental justice and civil rights at EPA will ensure the lived experiences of underserved communities are central to our decision-making while supporting community-driven solutions."

[OCS: The climate crisis is a manufactured media creation designed to empower global elitists as they continually protect or enlarge their assets at the expense of the public on their march to a more authoritarian government.]

"From day one, President Biden and EPA have been committed to delivering progress on environmental justice and civil rights and ensuring that underserved and overburdened communities are at the forefront of our work," said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. "With the launch of a new national program office, we are embedding environmental justice and civil rights into the DNA of EPA and ensuring that people who've struggled to have their concerns addressed see action to solve the problems they've been facing for generations."

The new office will oversee the implementation and delivery of a $3 billion climate and environmental justice block grant program created by the Inflation Reduction Act, a critical component of the law's historic $60 billion investment in environmental justice. The office also will ensure EPA's implementation of other funding programs provided by the Inflation Reduction Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and regular appropriations meet or exceed the President's Justice40 Initiative.

[OCS: Aha! And there it is – wealth redistribution and the funding of politically-connected special interests. The fact that the "Inflation Reduction Act" is an overt lie and is simply a portion of the communist's "New Green Deal" should make it obvious this is the progressive communist democrat's grab for money and political power.

For those unfamiliar with the Justice40 Initiative, it sets a goal that 40 percent of the overall benefits of certain Federal investments flow to disadvantaged communities that are marginalized, underserved, and overburdened by pollution. This begs the question, shouldn't they get 60% or more of the allocations until the issue is remediated if these areas are so underserved? And don't look too closely as the initiative directs funds into non-productive, unstable, and costly green power deals fronted by politically-connected special interests and appointees. "The categories of investment are: climate change, clean energy, and energy efficiency, clean transit, affordable and sustainable housing, training and workforce development, remediation and reduction of legacy pollution, and the development of critical clean water and wastewater infrastructure."]

The new office is the latest significant action under President Biden's aggressive approach to embed environmental justice, civil rights, and equity across the government, and follows the launch of several initiatives.

[OCS: I would suggest that this initiative will further embed more progressive communist democrat operatives deep within the government bureaucracy where they can actively promote their toxic agenda and inhibit any attempts at reform. I think it is time to limit foreign and dual-citizen nationals from government positions and to reimplement a legally enforceable loyalty oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution.]

Background

EPA created the Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights Office by merging three existing programs at the agency: the Office of Environmental Justice, External Civil Rights Compliance Office, and Conflict Prevention and Resolution Center. The new office will:

  • Improve and enhance the agency's ability to infuse equity, civil rights, and environmental justice principles and priorities into all EPA practices, policies, and programs.
  • Support the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies regardless of race, color, national origin, or income.
  • Engage communities with environmental justice concerns and increase support for community-led action through grants and technical assistance.
  • Enforce federal civil rights laws that, together, prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin (including on the basis of limited-English proficiency); sex; disability; or age by applicants for and recipients of federal financial assistance from EPA.   [OCS: A new protected class – "limited-English proficiency?"]
  • Provide services and expertise in alternative dispute resolution, environmental conflict resolution, consensus-building, and collaborative problem solving.

For more information, please visit the new Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights website.

Believe the progressive communist democrats when they tell you what they are about!

Excerpts from the radical, far-left publication, The Atlantic…

What Many Progressives Misunderstand About Fighting Climate Change

The good news is that, with reasonable reforms, the energy transition is fully within reach. Private investment in clean-energy technology is skyrocketing, and even Big Oil is starting to realize there is no future in fossil fuels.

[OCS: There is no sustainable, reliable energy transition capability in existence and crippling our current fossil fuel-based energy sources is economic suicide!]

But this may not be enough for some environmentalists. Jamie Henn, an environmental activist and the director of Fossil Free Media, recently told Rolling Stone, “Look, I want to get carbon out of the atmosphere, but this is such an opportunity to remake our society.

[OCS: Did you sign on to eliminate pollution or to remake society – a code phrase for destroying the capitalist system and replacing it with an authoritarian regime?]

Many progressive commentators similarly believe that countering climate change requires a fundamental reordering of the West’s political and economic systems. “The level of disruption required to keep us at a temperature anywhere below ‘absolutely catastrophic’ is fundamentally, on a deep structural level, incompatible with the status quo,” the writer Phil McDuff has argued. The climate crisis, the Green New Deal advocate Naomi Klein has insisted, “could be the best argument progressives have ever had” to roll back corporate influence, tear up free-trade deals, and reinvest in public services and infrastructure.

Such comments raise a question: What is the real goal here—stopping climate change or abolishing capitalism?

The belief that top-down decision makers can choreograph precisely how the clean-energy revolution will proceed runs deep in progressive circles. In the manifesto describing his version of the Green New Deal, Bernie Sanders declared, “To get to our goal of 100 percent sustainable energy, we will not rely on any false solutions like nuclear, geoengineering, carbon capture and sequestration, or trash incinerators.”

[OCS: Modern nuclear technology is the cleanest, sustainable energy source in an industrialized economy – just ask France. It’s no wonder why the progressive communist democrats vilify nuclear energy.]

Bottom line…

If you haven't noticed, former President Obama, an un-American communist, anti-white, anti-Semite racist, and his acolytes are firmly in control of the Biden Administration – headed by a corrupt senile fool who can still read (mostly) a teleprompter.

To say that we are screwed as we approach the 2022 and 2024 elections is an understatement.

CALIFORNIA'S HOMELESS HUSTLE

I am bombarded by campaign literature promising to alleviate California’s homelessness problem.

Gimme Shelter: Los Angeles mayoral candidates discuss homelessness plans

Unsurprisingly, homelessness has become a hot button issue in the heated Los Angeles mayoral election, which takes place on Nov. 8.

Angelenos are eager, if not desperate, for their next mayor to reduce the more than 41,000 people living in tents, RVs and shelters in the city. But the proposals from each candidate to address homelessness vary widely and were, until a recent L.A. Times analysis, sparse on the details.

U.S. Rep. Karen Bass plans to combine interim and permanent housing options by expanding and accelerating already-existing programs, like housing vouchers and Project Homekey. Her plan, which would theoretically bring more than 17,000 people indoors, has a price tag of $292 million.

[OCS: Karen Bass is a Castro-loving communist who represents a clear and present danger to Los Angeles.]

Bass’ opponent, real estate developer Rick Caruso, says he would mostly focus on building new shelter beds for 30,000 people, costing around $800 million – plus operating costs. <Source>

LA City Council committee divided on whether to stay with LAHSA homeless services

Members of the city council’s Homelessness and Poverty Committee appeared divided over whether the city should begin providing services more directly, or continue working with the regionally focused Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), which gets funds from the federal government.

[OCS: It’s a fight over who controls hundreds of millions of dollars.]

The authority was formed in 1993 at a time when the region faced a homeless crisis and several municipalities and jurisdictions fought over federal funding and had differing views on how to provide homeless services.

Los Angeles City Councilman Bob Blumenfield, who represents District 3 in west San Fernando Valley, said the city should to bow out of the regional system led by LAHSA, and provide its own city-based homeless services.

LAHSA is the lead regional organization that helps the homeless find housing and services, and oversees the annual countywide homeless count. But Blumenfield argued that Los Angeles has recently worked to “build on our city’s homeless response system.”

“At this point, we were already doing the work and we should look at what it takes to bring homeless services in house,” Blumenfield said. “Many of us are building our own pilot programs.” Criticizing LAHSA, he said, “Our regional homeless system is too big in my opinion, and it’s unresponsive to our local needs.” <Source>

Unfortunately, this is little more than a hustle perpetrated by politically-connected grifters.

The facts are simple.

(1)  The stories about middle-class individuals, families, and children falling into homelessness and living rough on the streets are mostly the exploitation of an insignificant number of individuals. Most of these individuals have some support mechanism, and the duration of their homelessness is relatively brief. The media appears willing to exploit these stories to drive a political narrative for additional funding for homeless programs.

(2)  The great majority of the homeless are drug addicts or mentally ill.

(3)  Most homeless initiatives are bound to fail because, in order to resolve their homeless issue, they must want help in the form of a permanent solution. With drug addicts being confined in any sponsored program denies them easy access to a criminal means to earn money and their drug dealers. Not that they are unwilling to accept temporary assistance in the form of shelter during inclement weather, a hot shower, a fulfilling meal, or clothes.

(4)  The greatest beneficiaries of homelessness solutions are the government, foundation, and non-profit agencies whose livelihood demands a homeless population to serve—likewise, the politically-connected real estate developers and operators who have turned homelessness into a multi-million dollar enterprise.

This is a visual advertisement for the grifters…

POLI-AD

Illegal aliens are making the problem worse…

Eric Adams is building a tent city in the Bronx, and residents are not happy

NYC Mayor Eric Adams is building a tent city in the Bronx to house about 1,000 illegal migrants who have arrived in the city from Texas. Adams is calling them “Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers.” One is being set up on Orchard Beach for adults. A second location for families has not been announced yet. Local residents are not happy with the mayor’s decision. There is a strong vibe of NIMBY here – not in my backyard. <Source>

[OCS: Funny how New York City boasts about being a sanctuary city and cannot muster the resources of an unwitting participant in the illegal alien onslaught like Brownsville, Texas. Of course, it is all politics as most politicians do not care about the homeless or the illegal aliens as they look toward their own political future,]

Bottom line…

The politicians are seeding homelessness for their own interests.

When it comes to the homeless, there are no comprehensive solutions, only marginal ones based on an individual case-by-case basis involving both judicial and health authorities. Individuals who do not want help and resist assistance will always bollix up the system.

We are so screwed when politically-connected special interests play disadvantaged individuals.

ANOTHER MINDF*CK

TODAYS-RANT

Today’s rant is short…

Screw Apple for their “continuous improvement of the user experience,” which necessitates that you grant them access to your system to use you as their unwilling beta testers.

Almost every improvement appears to be commonsense functionality that should have been incorporated from the beginning. New layouts and graphics to convince you something is “new,” or produce a “wow” factor, or screw up your existing workflow based on legions of children or addlepated adults who require that operations are reduced to the lowest common denominator should be eliminated or switch selectable.

Moreover, arcane settings hide under layers of menus – many purposely misnamed to encourage your positive response to the company’s suggestions.

I just finished setting up and transferring data on a new iPhone and iPad in the past two days. While the actual set-up was easy, not all applications, content, and settings transferred smoothly. I grant you that applications should be updated to take advantage of new hardware and operating system capabilities – but it would have been nice to analyze the old system and note potential issues. At least Microsoft attempts this analysis in their inter-generational operating system releases.

Bottom line…

My electronic devices are used mainly for employment, not enjoyment, so I value workflow over whiz-bang.

Somehow I expected better from Apple. But then again, Steve Jobs was all about esthetics and packaging, whereas Steve Wozniak was all about engineering and functionality. Pretty much why Apple’s devices underperformed PCs at the time.

With the necessity for upgrades of hardware, operating systems, and applications, even though they all perform rudimentary functions like content creation, we appear to be caught in a profit cycle rather than a performance cycle.

And it should be no surprise that battery life is steadily worsening.

Don’t get me wrong, Apple products, for the most part, are wonderful devices; it’s the operating system functionality that annoys me.

We are so screwed.

I feel so much better now!

WE ARE SO SCREWED

FLAG-GBUSA

Several readers asked me why I end most every post with the line, “We are so screwed.”

As I read through my daily dose of news and scientific literature, I find my contempt for our political, cultural, and scientific elites growing geometrically greater by the minute. Not only are these individuals and their institutions corrupt, but they are also corrupt, narcissistic, and self-serving as they actively ignore basic humanity, decency, and common sense to embrace and promote evil. They appear ready and able to sacrifice your life, your family’s lives, and the lives of future generations for their own power, pleasure, and profits.

I am deeply chagrined and ashamed to find that individuals I held in the highest regard were little more than media-created personas that masked their ignorance and willingness to engage in activities beyond corrupt and could only be described as evil. Then there were others who I regarded as essentially evil but had descended further into the lowest rings of hell.

They hide their evil behind labels such as political correctness, multiculturalism, and moral equivalency. They are telling us that everything is an artificial construct to gain or maintain power. As if there was good evil and bad evil and the ends justify the means.

And, there is little or nothing I can do to remedy the situation because their actions are beyond my control. It appears that their actions may be beyond the control of a rational society.

To say that “We the People” are screwed is an understatement.

But there is a glimmer of hope…

The vast majority of people, the “silent majority,” are decent, law-abiding citizens. And while they may have their quirks and foibles, en masse, they are a solid bulwark against the evil pervading our land. They instinctively and intuitively know the difference between good and evil and right and wrong. They do not have to build elaborate rationalizations for their beliefs or actions as they heuristically recognize natural laws and the differences between acceptable and unacceptable behavior. They might not be able to derive optimal, perfect, or rational solutions to a problem, but their reasoning is sufficient for reaching an immediate and moral conclusion.

Ignorance is the enemy, and the progressive propagandists in the mainstream media and social platforms are its agents.

Much of what we see and hear is no longer a truthful recital of the facts; it is a narrative crafted to promote a political agenda. In the absence of objective reality, we are fed subjective narratives – and, even worse, dissident voices are censored or their access to public platforms canceled.

It pains me how formerly reputable scientists bow to their funders and institutions to slant their research and findings toward the fashionable science of the day. With little or no efforts to replicate existing findings as they fear falsifying not only a colleague’s work but the entire political narrative that was created around it.

In struggling to determine if I will take the next COVID booster shots, I find that equally intelligent, well-educated, well-experienced, and well-credentialed individuals have drawn contradictory conclusions regarding open-source data. In fact, openly challenge the data collection, analysis, and reporting process based on statistical anomalies. Since I am in the highest risk category with significant co-morbidities, I am gambling with my life. I have doubts about some of my doctors who are pressured by their practices and hospitals to adopt fashionable politicized protocols or face sanctions. Thank heavens I have the background to read the scientific literature, perform my own statistical computations, and have deep experience in numerous fields from my consulting work over the decades.

As for politics, I am a constitutional conservative, not a political crazy. I recognize the value of classical liberalism and understand economic theories. I can’t understand the mass psychosis of those supporting the Democrat Party, which has been infiltrated with communists over the years and appears to be an un-American adjunct of the Communist Party.

Is the future a Trump replay?

Trump is combative, petty, venal, and lazy. A transactional narcissist who values people at the moment for what they can do for Trump. The 2020 election was undermined by never-Trumpers and Bush-establishment types, including a Hillary-loving progressive Democrat named Jared Kushner. Everywhere you turned, there were unvetted and inadequately-vetted dodgy low-life characters pursuing their self-interests and political agenda. Even the generals that Trump brought into the White House felt they could ignore his direct and unambiguous orders to, in their opinion, “save the nation.” Trump favors tall, telegenic people, rich people, and establishment types he can humiliate publicly -- it is the appearance or promise of competence he relies on.

And, in the turmoil, Trump instinctively did what was best for America and the American people.

Will this be sufficient for 2024? Beats me! It depends on our other choices and how they interact with the media. All I know is that so many of the Trump personnel choices were grossly ineffective and wildly inappropriate.

Bottom line…

DEMOCRAT-NUCLEAR

While the Republicans drag their feet and cannot fix everything, they did not cause the majority of problems we are facing today: inflation, crime, illegal aliens, a damaged energy sector, and a crippled military.

We are so screwed.

FEDWATCHER: AS USUAL THE FED IS TOO LITTLE AND TOO LATE

Unbelievably, the Federal Reserve took the coward’s way out and only hiked the rate by 75 basis points.

September 21, 2022 - Federal Reserve issues FOMC statement

Recent indicators point to modest growth in spending and production. Job gains have been robust in recent months, and the unemployment rate has remained low. Inflation remains elevated, reflecting supply and demand imbalances related to the pandemic, higher food and energy prices, and broader price pressures.

Russia’s war against Ukraine is causing tremendous human and economic hardship. The war and related events are creating additional upward pressure on inflation and are weighing on global economic activity. The Committee is highly attentive to inflation risks.

The Committee seeks to achieve maximum employment and inflation at the rate of 2 percent over the longer run. In support of these goals, the Committee decided to raise the target range for the federal funds rate to 3 to 3-1/4 percent and anticipates that ongoing increases in the target range will be appropriate. In addition, the Committee will continue reducing its holdings of Treasury securities and agency debt and agency mortgage-backed securities, as described in the Plans for Reducing the Size of the Federal Reserve’s Balance Sheet that were issued in May. The Committee is strongly committed to returning inflation to its 2 percent objective.

In assessing the appropriate stance of monetary policy, the Committee will continue to monitor the implications of incoming information for the economic outlook. The Committee would be prepared to adjust the stance of monetary policy as appropriate if risks emerge that could impede the attainment of the Committee’s goals. The Committee’s assessments will take into account a wide range of information, including readings on public health, labor market conditions, inflation pressures and inflation expectations, and financial and international developments. <Source>

As before, the Fed is about using weasel words and continuing to be reactive rather than aggressive. I believe this increase is too little and comes too late to have a material effect on increasing inflation. 75 basis points just does not seem high enough to dampen economic activity. I would look for additional 75 basis points hikes at the Fed’s upcoming meetings.

I tend to consider the five- and ten-year neutral stance adjustment to guide my opinion.

The Neutral Rate

At what rate or range of rates does a change in the federal funds rate go from being low enough to be “accommodative” to being high enough to dampen economic activity? The answer is the neutral rate, often defined as the rate or range of rates consistent with full employment, trend growth, and stable prices. An economy in this state presumably wouldn’t need to be stimulated or slowed by monetary policy. Economists often describe the neutral rate by talking about the real federal funds rate— that is, the nominal fed funds rate minus a measure of inflation. <Source>

Before the hike blog post…

All things considered, I would posit that the Federal Reserve will hike rates by 100 to 125 basis points and, if they were serious, by 150 basis points.

The current Federal Funds Rate is 233 basis points, and the potential target will likely be between 450 and 550 basis points before year-end.

As with all things Fed, the market has taken their probabilistic projections and priced them into their offerings.

Fedwatch-21

Bottom line…

This is a reminder that we have a supply-side problem, not a demand-side one, exacerbated by wasteful government spending, causing stagflation. We need to ramp up production, not curtail consumption -- assuming our logistics chain will support greater economic activity.

The Wall Street Wizards will continue to create their own narratives to generate profitable volatility.

The aftermath of the 75 basis points increase…

Fedwatch-after

As you can see, we could have accommodated another 50 basis points to move closer to a zero neutral stance ajustment.

In my humble opinion, it would have been appropriate to bump the Federal Funds Rate by 125 basis points to 3.58 from 2.33 instead of a cowardly 75 basis points to 3.08. That is if the FOMC Committee wanted to dampen economic activity. Since we have two remaining FOMC meetings left for this year, the target rate for the year might be about 4.58 when it should be a more appropriate 5.50.

But then again, Congress has outsourced fiscal policy to the “experts” at the financial industry-dominated Federal Reserve as they are either too stupid or lazy to deal with the issue as contemplated in the U.S. Constitution.

We are so screwed.

THE "SCIENCE" OF PROGRESSIVE COMMUNIST DEMOCRAT SEXUAL POLITICS

In an Orwellian world where up is down and men can think themselves into being women…

The problem with most ideological-driven academics is that they: one, believe they are more intelligent than most everyone else and thus have the moral right to dictate your lifestyle choices; and two, they think that any assertion must be grounded in some defensible argument, thus eliminating historical heuristic lessons and traditions accumulated over thousands of years.

In the realm of sexual argumentation, excluding biological arguments, many academics do not simply accept that incest is wrong and refuse your reflexive, intuitive response, “because it is,” as a valid reason.

Likewise, the same reasoning applies to pedophilia. However, some academics are willing to use historical references when it supports their assertions -- pointing to ancient Greek homosexual pedophilia practices as justification for the allegation that pedophilia is just another “sexual orientation” that falls on a socio-political construct of an LGBTQ+ spectrum.

So why should we be surprised that the progressive communist democrats who want to destroy our nation from within by first destroying our history, traditions, religion, and institutions, argue that the difference between a biological male and female is simply an artificial construct engineered by the white patriarchy to oppress women? Secretly adding, “give us political power, and we will redress these grievances.”

Therefore, it should be of no consequence when a formerly respected scientific magazine, Scientific American, goes woke.

UNSCI-SEX

Consequences be damned...

It is the modus operandi of progressives to ignore a reality embodied in human nature, scientific discovery, history, and tradition. When corrected or challenged, they ignore facts and rational debate -- becoming extremely angry and demanding dissident censorship or cancellation of platform access.  Behavior that can be summed up by the cowardice and groupthink described in "The Emperor's New Clothes."

The objective reality is that there are two biological sexes that are complementary and predisposed to the procreation that propagates our species. To the extent that someone does not conform to traditional science-based definitions does not mean that person should be mistreated or otherwise shunned by society. But it is axiomatically true that aberrant individuals should not legally impose their mindset on the general population in order to gain acceptance or make them feel better about themselves.

To the extent that academics can create their own realities, does not give them the right or privilege to force "We the People" to obediently accept their delusions without pushback.

Another example of progressive idiocy...

Washington Post fact-checker slammed for calling ‘fetal heartbeat’ a ‘misnomer’ in defense of Stacey Abrams

A video of Georgia gubernatorial candidate] Stacey Abrams referring to the idea of the "fetal heartbeat" as a conspiracy against the pro-abortion rights movement went viral on Twitter Wednesday.  In the clip, Abrams said, "There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks. It is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman's body."

In response to an RNC Research tweet about Abrams' comments, Kessler claimed the heartbeat of an unborn baby can only be detected at 10 weeks in a pregnancy, that the fetal heartbeat doctors say can be detected at six weeks is merely "electrical activity generated by an embryo" and the sound is noise "created by the ultrasound" machine.  <Source>

A perversion of science to create a progressive communist democrat sexual narrative of control?

Bottom line...

Disguising absolute idiocy behind the language of a credentialed academic does not make their assumptions and assertions less idiotic.

As for Scientific American, one of the special publications of my youth, it is now not even an afterthought. “Go woke, go broke!”

We are so screwed when scientists pander to politics and perversions.

IS FIRST PREMIER BANK A LEGAL LOAN SHARK?

Loan-shark-1

A little unpleasant business…

Experian, the credit reporting agency, notified me that First Premier Bank in South Dakota had accessed my credit report through Transunion, another credit reporting agency. Since I have never applied for a First Premier Bank credit card, I immediately called them and filed a fraud report. I also filed identity theft reports with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Federal Trade Commission, and all three major credit reporting agencies.

Thinking the issue was resolved, I was surprised to receive a First Premier Bank “Platinum” Mastercard in the mail.

I again called the bank and spoke with their representative, who assured me they could see the first fraud alert and advised me to destroy the card.

But that’s not what pissed me off…

It appears to be a scam. On the mailing carrier form with the attached credit card is a greeting. “CONGRATULATIONS! You have been approved for a First Premier Bank Credit Card.”

I found that I had a ridiculously low $700 credit limit, with available credit of $613.00 as soon as I paid a $55 “Program Fee.”  Somewhat confusing as the First Payment is stated as $30.00. Additionally, “If you pay your initial Program Fee by check, we will hold the payment for up to six days. This means your Credit Account won’t be opened and available to use for transactions for up to 30 days.

Sketchy as hell until I read the accompanying program disclosure form.

Annual Percentage Rate is 36%.

It appears that usury (exorbitant or illegally high rates) laws are state-specific, and some states do not have any limitations on interest rates as long as they were set by written agreement. Many states cap credit card interest

“Many states have a usury law which limits the interest rate that a company may charge. Most of these laws capped interest rates at 18%. However, some states, such as South Dakota, do not have a usury law, allowing in-state businesses to charge as much interest as they want.”

According to the Federal Reserve’s G-19 Consumer Credit Report, in May 2022, the average credit card interest rate in the United States on accounts with balances assessed interest was 16.65%.

If you adjust the rate for the risk of default using FICO scores as a guideline, you might see rates like Super-prime (740 and Above)16%-18%; Prime (670-739) 20%-22%; Subprime (580-669) 22%–24%; Deep-Subprime (579 and Below) 24% and above.

Screwed!

With my credit report in their computer and a Super-prime+ FICO score, the bank decision algorithm is either screwing me without first kissing me, or this is what they do to everybody who legitimately applies for one of their cards.

If that was not enough, the bank adds insult to injury with its one-time Program Fee of $55.00, a first-year fee of $79.00 – and after that, $49 annually.

Yes, it gets worse. The disclosure also lists an introductory monthly fee of $96.00 for the first year ($8.00/month), followed by a $124.80 yearly fee ($10.40/month).

Cash Advance fees are 5% of the transaction or $8.00, whichever is greater. Late Payment and Return Item Charges are both up to $39.00.

So if I take $100 out of an ATM, assuming there is no additional service fee, I am charged $8.00 for the privilege, whereas 5% of $100 is $5 – a de facto 8% handshake.

The bank is controlled by billionaire T. Denny Sanford, the wealthiest man in South Dakota.

Bottom line…

Thank your legislators for pretending to support the poor with credit products they cannot afford while enabling financial institutions to bleed them dry.

The lesson here is that bad credit can be turned into big profits.

We are so screwed.
