With all New York’s blathering and bullshit about gun control, why do they have trouble prosecuting and sentencing offenders who commit felonies with firearms?

NYC Mayor Adams makes politically charged call for 'national response' on gun control after subway shooting

Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams called for a national response on gun control Tuesday following a shooting in a Brooklyn subway station.

At least 10 people were shot in the incident, including seven males and three females, according to authorities. Thirteen people suffered injuries from smoke inhalation, falling down or suffering from a panic attack. Five people were in critical condition but were expected to survive.

NYC Mayor Calls on ATF to Yank Ghost Gun Kit Maker's License

New York City’s mayor is calling on the Biden administration to yank the federal firearms license of a Nevada company that sells parts and kits for ghost guns, firearms without serial numbers that have been increasingly turning up at crime scenes around the U.S.

Mayor Eric Adams joined with gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety on Wednesday to publicly call for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to immediately revoke the license of a Polymer80, Inc., alleging the company has violated federal gun laws requiring background checks of purchasers and serial numbers, among other measures.

Mayor Adams Releases Blueprint to End Gun Violence in New York City

New York City Mayor Eric Adams today released a “Blueprint to End Gun Violence” in New York City, which lays out numerous policy proposals Mayor Adams is seeking to implement to curb the scourge of gun violence plaguing New York City streets. The roadmap lays out Mayor Adams’ priorities to immediately address the crisis of guns on New York City streets.

“Gun violence is a public health crisis that continues to threaten every corner of our city,” said Mayor Adams. “We pray for all the victims of violence and their families who are suffering, but we are going to do more than pray — we’re going to turn our pain into purpose. Public safety is my administration’s highest priority, which is why we will remove guns from our streets, protect our communities, and create a safe, prosperous and just city for all New Yorkers.”

How can New York allow gang-bangers the freedom to roam the streets?

NYC teen previously released on probation over armed robbery has indictment dropped in fatal shooting
Mendez had been released on five years’ probation last May after pleading guilty to a 2020 armed robbery

A New York City teenager accused of shooting and killing a man in a case of mistaken identity last year was released from jail by a judge on Tuesday, according to a report.

On Oct. 24, Mendez and other reputed gangbangers allegedly sought payback for a beatdown of one of their own members. They came upon Koma on Ryer Avenue on Fordham Heights in what sources said was likely a case of mistaken identity. Mendez was the trigger man who fatally shot Koma in the head, sources said. Two others were arrested related to the shooting of Koma, a college student.

Bronx Supreme Court Justice Naita Semaj-Williams dismissed the indictment against Steven Mendez, 17, who allegedly shot Saikou Koma, 21, in the head in a gang-related incident when Mendez thought Koma was another man, according to the

New York Post, citing the Bronx District Attorney’s office.

The judge didn’t give a reason for the decision. Semaj gave prosecutors leave to present their case in front of a grand jury, which by law must happen within 45 days.

Mendez had been previously released on five years’ probation last May after pleading guilty to a 2020 armed robbery in which prosecutors sought the maximum sentence of four years in prison. A victim in that incident was shot in the leg. Mendez was charged as a "youthful offender." Then-Bronx Supreme Court Justice Denis Boyle didn’t think a prison sentence was appropriate for a "crime committed as an accomplice at the age of 16," a court spokesperson told the Post of the armed robbery charge at the time. Youthful offender status for people between 16 and 19 years old means they can get reduced sentenced and sealed criminal records.

Even before his guilty plea, Mendez had at least three previous run-ins with the law — including a 2019 case where he allegedly pulled a loaded gun on his own mother. Mendez, allegedly angry after his mother refused to give him money, slapped her with an open hand then pointed a .357 at her, sources said.

The bullshit just flows in New York...

NY Governor signs "flurry" of gun control executive orders

In predictable fashion, New York Governor Kathy Hochul is following the old rule about never letting a crisis go to waste. Following the mass shooting in Buffalo, New York this weekend that left ten people dead, Hochul announced that she is in the process of signing a “strict series” of executive orders related to gun control measures. The full text of the orders has not been released yet, but the description of these orders should be setting off some alarms. New York State passed a so-called “red flag” law in 2019 and these orders apparently play off of that legislation, expanding the state’s ability to preemptively seize firearms from lawful owners and “monitor online extremism.”

Bottom line…

How does any judge release a gang member with a violent past and who used a gun on more than one occasion to prey upon the community?

It is time to re-fund the New York Police Department, return to “broken windows policing,” implement “stop and frisk,” and go after gang members and drug dealers.

It is time to hold judges responsible for their actions – demoting them to traffic court or shuffling paper.

We are so screwed when we allow politicians to seek new legislation and laws while refusing to demand that the adequate laws on the books be upheld.
