How best to describe politicians comes from Leo Tolstoy, a Russian writer regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time.
I sit on a man’s back choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am sorry for him and wish to lighten his load by all means possible -- except by getting off his back.
~LEO TOLSTOY, WRITINGS ON CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE AND NONVIOLENCE
The last thing the global elites want is an educated populace capable of commonsense reasoning and critical thinking.
So how does one justify the UTLA (United Teachers Los Angeles) demand for a 20% pay hike, smaller classes, lower workloads, and a promise to address student food and housing insecurity? Especially after turning out another decade of functional illiterates dependent on electronic devices to function in today's environment?
This union resists testing teachers for teaching competency and subject-matter knowledge. This union makes it almost impossible to terminate a teacher -- forcing the LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District" to maintain a "teacher's jail" where disciplinary problems and sex offenders spend their days away from students while reading newspapers and filling time.
This union believes that parents impede indoctrination. It promotes a progressive ideology to create student activists rather than ensuring children learn Math, Science, English, History, Civics, and the skills needed for adult life.
This is the union that places everyone on an academic track, overlooking industrial arts education for those so inclined.
In addition to classical education at my junior high school, I enjoyed drafting, print shop, electric shop, woodshop, metal shop, and print shop. To this day, I can repair almost anything and have a great assortment of hand and power tools. We also had an agricultural area and learned to grow food in a small plot. Life skills like home economics and other subjects were available on our elective lists.
Ask yourself why students of all ages remain relatively ignorant when technology has created astonishing new ways to make learning available through video and the power of the Internet -- with a staggering assortment of valuable and practical courses free of charge? Free courses taught by competent teachers and communicators.
Who is using these language classes? The college-level classes?
One answer is that teachers refuse to expose their students to such materials as they may lose some degree of control over the student when the students realize how inadequate the instruction and the teacher are.
It is time to remove politics from school boards -- especially the big-money school board elections funded by special interest donations. It is time to weed out incompetent teachers with failing classes -- even when evaluated with reduced grading standards and fudged test scores. And, it is time to respect parental rights and adhere to education over indoctrination.
Remember this when voting for school board members. My rule of thumb -- avoid anyone with a hyphenated name. Like UTLA President Cecily Myart-Cruz.
Don't believe the standard line of bullshit, "it's for the kids." It's for the adults --and the million-dollar special interests that profit from providing goods and services to educational institutions.
Ask yourself why a textbook costs $120 when the information hasn't changed for decades? GREED! EXPLOITATION! POLITICS!
We are so screwed.
