Elder abuse?

While I have no particular love for former Vice President and corrupt politician Joe Biden, it pains me to see a fellow senior citizen – obviously suffering from a cogitative deficit, possibly as a result of a stroke or onset dementia, be exploited to advance a political agenda. Clearly, Biden is medically unfit to serve as the President of the United States, and yet his handlers put him before the cameras. It has gone far beyond simple verbal gaffes – the man is struggling to speak in complete and coherent sentences. Even reading from written notes is not working.

Even worse, dictatorial progressive socialist democrats are killing senior citizens…

Common sense, backed by hard-number evidence, indicates that the most vulnerable to COVID-19 are the senior citizens and those with underlying medical conditions. So why would any Governor demand that nursing homes and adult care facilities, with a large contingent of senior citizens, accept patients that have active COVID-19?

By order of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, unofficially running for the Democrat nomination as a replacement for Joseph Biden in the 2020 election…

New York Mandates Nursing Homes Take Covid-19 Patients Discharged From Hospitals

New York told nursing-home operators that they will be required to accept patients infected with the new coronavirus who are discharged from hospitals but may be still convalescing, amid more cases in the state that are straining the health-care system.

[OCS: Why are the major medical facilities closing down operations are furloughing employees if they are at capacity and sending employees home. New York has an abundance of hospital beds and ventilators. ]

The decision will draw pushback from some nursing-home officials, who have warned that such moves endanger residents who aren’t infected by the virus, because discharged patients may still be contagious. A group representing doctors who work in nursing homes, known as AMDA, the Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, said in a recent resolution that “admitting patients with suspected or documented Covid-19 infection represents a clear and present danger to all of the residents of a nursing home.”

In the directive sent Wednesday to nursing homes, which was viewed by The Wall Street Journal, the New York State Department of Health said, “No resident shall be denied readmission or admission to the [nursing home] solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of Covid-19.”

In addition, the document said, nursing homes “are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for Covid-19 prior to admission or readmission.” <Source>

[OCS: This is unconscionable. Craziness leading to increasing active COVID-19 patients and deaths.

It is a fact that most nursing homes and adult care facilities have trouble meeting infection control standards with limited facilities, employees, and patients that wander from area to area. Patients who may not even be able to follow instructions.]

California is now admitting they were wrong…

LA Health Director Admits ‘We Were Wrong’ in Handling 40% of County COVID-19 Death Cases

We now know that in its zeal to shut things down to save frontline medical professionals and old people, the LA County Health Department missed a big tell.

There have been reports of coronavirus deaths at nursing homes since last month. The clusters were developing at eleven separate nursing home-like facilities. But now we know that fully 40% of the Wuhan virus deaths were people in nursing homes and “institutional” facilities. The County reports that 3,115 cases occurred in nursing homes and similar facilities; 1,826 of the cases were residents and the rest were staff.

But the possibility that asymptomatic people could spread the disease was known earlier.

The CDC reported that based on the Kirkland, Wash., nursing home cases, Chinese data and cases in Singapore, there was a distinct possibility of passing the disease along without ever developing symptoms. <Source>

Bottom line…

Once again, we find that the un-American progressive socialist democrats will say or do anything, fair or foul, to advance their ideological power grab and agenda.

If you are a senior citizen and/or have underlying conditions – beware, the Democrats are out to kill you. But don’t worry, your vote for the Democrats will be submitted after your death.

We are so screwed.

In his Nobel Prize Lecture, The Pretense of Knowledge, economist Friedrich von Hayek argued, “Unlike the position that exists in the physical sciences, in economics and other disciplines that deal with essentially complex phenomena, the aspects of the events to be accounted for about which we can get quantitative data are necessarily limited and may not include the important ones.”

It appears that Vox, a radical left media outlet, is reporting the results of a “disturbing new study” using “sophisticated new research” suggesting that Sean Hannity’s show helped spread the coronavirus.

But first a few facts…

(1) No matter how scientific the research appears, correlation does not immediately indicate causation.

(2) Researchers can control or distort the results of any research by omitting significant variables or statistically manipulating the results. In this research, there are multiple independent variables that do not seem to be controlled.

(3) Most statistical studies in the social sciences have large error bands surrounding their findings, but use the mathematical artifacts of division to report results with what appears to be decimal point precision.

(4) I could legitimately support the argument that Sean Hannity’s audience skews older and thus it;s more susceptible to the ravages of Covid-19. Or the equally ludicrous assertion that one is more likely to die from Covid-19 if you voted for a liberal governor since the “hotspot” concentrations of Covid-19 infections and deaths lies mostly within the geographical areas governed by progressive socialist democrats. Or even, corrupt progressive socialist democrats who have massive deficits and did not adequately prepare for a pandemic in the face of this well-known potential threat to their constituents. Assertions capable of producing the sensational headlines used by click-baiting media.

(5) And, I could suggest that those who listen to Fox also are greatly influenced by their peers and the overwhelming saturation of news and commentary coming from the large mainstream media whose audiences, when compared to the audiences of cable news, are significantly larger.

A look at Vox reporting…

A disturbing new study suggests Sean Hannity’s show helped spread the coronavirus
Sophisticated new research links Hannity’s coronavirus misinformation to “a greater number of Covid-19 cases and deaths.”

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, media critics have warned that the decision from leading Fox News hosts to downplay the outbreak could cost lives. A new study provides statistical evidence that, in the case of Sean Hannity, that’s exactly what happened.

[OCS: If by evidence, you mean “a body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid,” than the cited statistical “evidence” is little more than “statistical” inference, supposition, or conjecture.]

The paper — from economists Leonardo Bursztyn, Aakaash Rao, Christopher Roth, and David Yanagizawa-Drott — focused on Fox news programming in February and early March.

At the time, Hannity’s show was downplaying or ignoring the virus, while fellow Fox host Tucker Carlson was warning viewers about the disease’s risks.

[OCS: Let us not forget that Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and President Donald Trump’s top adviser on matters related to the coronavirus, said on January 21, that the coronavirus  was “not a major threat” to the U.S.” More specifically, “Obviously, you need to take it seriously, and do the kinds of things that the CDC and the Department of Homeland Security are doing. But, this not a major threat for the people of the United States, and this is not something that the citizens of the United States right now should be worried about.”

And let us not forget Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, inviting people to congregate in San Francisco’s Chinatown. “I’m here today, particularly, to say thank you to the community for the sense of family values and sense of community that they provide.

But also to say to everyone: we should come to Chinatown.  Precautions have been taken by our city.  We know that there is concern surrounding tourism, traveling all throughout the world, but we think it’s very safe to be in Chinatown and hope that others will come.

It’s lovely here.  The food is delicious, the shops are prospering, the parade was great.  Walking tours continue.  Please come and visit and enjoy Chinatown.”

This was a new virus, never seen in the animal or human population and most of the scientists were as clueless as to the degree of contagiousness and lethality of the virus as the common physician.

That many journalists and commentators – two separate animals – got it wrong initially is not an indictment of their motives or even politics.]

Using both a poll of Fox News viewers over age 55 and publicly available data on television-watching patterns, they calculate that Fox viewers who watched Hannity rather than Carlson were less likely to adhere to social distancing rules, and that areas where more people watched Hannity relative to Carlson had higher local rates of infection and death.

[OCS: Polls? You mean those things that depend on how questions are framed and respondents selected? Considering the inherent errors in starting with such “data,” one is reminded of the old data processing adage, “Garbage In, Garbage Out.”]

“Greater exposure to Hannity relative to Tucker Carlson Tonight leads to a greater number of COVID-19 cases and deaths,” they write. “A one-standard deviation increase in relative viewership of Hannity relative to Carlson is associated with approximately 30 percent more COVID-19 cases on March 14, and 21 percent more COVID-19 deaths on March 28.”

[OCS: Looks very scientific – until you examine the methodology and spot all of the limitations and assumptions that render the research useless.]

This is a working paper; it hasn’t been peer reviewed or accepted for publication at a journal. However, it’s consistent with a wide body of research finding that media consumption in general, and Fox News viewership in particular, can have a pretty powerful effect on individual behavior.

[OCS: This is an example of the chicken and the egg – and which one came first dilemma. Do the viewers watch Fox because it supports their viewpoint or do they watch Fox commentators (not journalists) for hard news? Do the viewers watch Fox because it appears more fair and balanced or because they found programs on CNN and MSNBC are one-note anti-Trump sources who lie without shame? I might suggest that older individuals, in particular, are already somewhat set in their ways and patterns of life and are less likely to change long-term behavior based on what any commentator might say.]

It seems that people really do see media as a guide to some of their most intimate life choices. Given how much a certain segment of older, white, conservative Americans trust Fox, it seems very plausible that they took cues from their favorite anchors on how to handle the coronavirus outbreak.

[OCS: “Very plausible” does not sound like “evidence” to me.]

For some Americans, that choice may well have been a fatal one.

[OCS: The same might be said of Dr. Fauci’s and Nancy Pelosi’s early advice.]

To read this article in full and in context, it can be found <here>.  Or better yet, read the actual research, “Misinformation During a Pandemic” and decide for yourself whether the authors’ research has merit.

We study the effects of news coverage of the novel coronavirus by the two most widely-viewed cable news shows in the United States – Hannity and Tucker Carlson Tonight, both on Fox News – on viewers' behavior and downstream health outcomes. Carlson warned viewers about the threat posed by the coronavirus from early February, while Hannity originally dismissed the risks associated with the virus before gradually adjusting his position starting late February. We first validate these differences in content with independent coding of show transcripts. In line with the differences in content, we present novel survey evidence that Hannity's viewers changed behavior in response to the virus later than other Fox News viewers, while Carlson's viewers changed behavior earlier. We then turn to the effects on the pandemic itself, examining health outcomes across counties. First, we document that greater viewership of Hannity relative to Tucker Carlson Tonight is strongly associated with a greater number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the early stages of the pandemic. The relationship is stable across an expansive set of robustness tests. To better identify the effect of differential viewership of the two shows, we employ a novel instrumental variable strategy exploiting variation in when shows are broadcast in relation to local sunset times. These estimates also show that greater exposure to Hannity relative to Tucker Carlson Tonight is associated with a greater number of county-level cases and deaths. Furthermore, the results suggest that in mid-March, after Hannity's shift in tone, the diverging trajectories on COVID-19 cases begin to revert. We provide additional evidence consistent with misinformation being an important mechanism driving the effects in the data. While our findings cannot yet speak to long-term effects, they indicate that provision of misinformation in the early stages of a pandemic can have important consequences for how a disease ultimately affects the population.

[OCS: I wonder if the researchers really considered that cable news is a minor segment, audience-wise, of the mainstream media outlets and that cross-pollution between the various information sources renders their study as specious conjecture.]

Bottom line...

I am always reminded of an old adage: “any discipline which puts ‘science’ in its title is not science at all: social science, political science, library science, domestic science, and so on. All these ‘sciences’ deal with chaotic systems where a controlled experiment is often impossible.” One might rightfully label them pseudo-sciences.

This paper will live in the archives and on the resumes of the authors -- but otherwise will be buried in the sands of time. Unless some other researcher needs to pull quotes to justify their own work.

With "science" like this, we are majorly screwed.

While the politicians are preoccupied with the catastrophe that is the Wuhan virus and the possible compromise of global telecommunications systems by Huawei’s 5G products and services, little attention is being given to BeiDou…

With the emergence of authoritarian “Big Brother” surveillance by China, and to some extent, the United States, the value of owning the keys to the tracking system is invaluable. One need only consider how many military, commercial, and individual services are based on location services?

BeiDou, Chinese for the constellation known as the “Northern” or “Big” Dipper,” including the North Star used in navigation systems, is the Chinese Navigation Satellite System.

While not complete at this date, the system is integrated into many military, commercial, and individual applications – including approximately 70-percent of Chinese smartphones, according to the Ran Chengqi, director of the China Satellite Navigation System Management Office. The same smartphones that form a backbone element of Communist China’s surveillance society.

According to published reports… “BeiDou receivers have been integrated into over 6.5 million taxis, buses, and trucks. And as of 2019, it had more than 400 million users worldwide. Over 30 countries, largely in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, use the system, including for various projects in Indonesia, Kuwait, Uganda, Myanmar, the Maldives, Cambodia, Thailand, and Russia.”

Chengqi reports that two more satellite launches will complete the 3rd generation BeiDou system by June 2020.

Bottom line…

Unlike American politicians who focus on 2-year, 4-year, and 6-year cycles, the Chinese take the long view. It is not uncommon for the Chinese to say, if not now, then when – and the when can be 20+ years in the future.

So while the politicians dither with their anti-Trump campaign and the intelligence agencies are preoccupied covering their past criminality, who is watching the store? Certainly not Representative Adam Schiff, the Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, who was so focused on Trump that his committee missed the early warnings of the Wuhan virus that were emanating from the intelligence community.

If we do not wake up soon, we will be majorly screwed by the Chinese who have stolen our technology, built-out their economy, improved their military – and decimated our economy and social order. All while politicians are worried about their own political futures, positions, perks, privileges, and profits.

There is no doubt that the un-American progressive socialist Democrats and their mainstream media cohorts continue to excoriate President Trump over testing for the Wuhan virus. Both the active test and the post-infection antibody tests are the current focus of the attack. The politicians cry, “there are not enough tests,” as if testing people will mitigate the damage to our republic and our economy.

But will there ever be enough tests?

Even though testing is of limited value as you can become infected moments later after the test or possibly re-infected later, this is the straw man argument used to keep the economy shuttered for the political benefit of the Democrats.

It appears that the mayors and governors of some states are attempting to extort money from the federal government by predicating re-starting local businesses based on specious testing criteria.

The longer the state remains sheltered in place, the greater pressure on the population -- which translates to greater pressure on the federal politicians to bail out states for pre-virus budget shortfalls and unfunded pension liabilities.

Instead of prioritizing expenditures and eliminating non-essential employees and programs, these mayors want to dip into everyone’s pocket to redress their own incompetency and profligate spending. The goal, of course, is to secure their political position, perks, privileges, and profits—all while their constituency suffers -- some with life-altering consequences and the loss of life-long savings.

Let us not forget that testing proves nothing – we must still protect the most vulnerable among us, if not from COVID-19, then the seasonal flu, or pneumonia – whatever. Let us remember, the great shuttering was designed to flatten the curve -- not the curve of people stricken or dying, but the curve relating to healthcare resources. All of this suffering was to prevent the government from looking bad and unprepared as much as it was to be able to care for the sick. In the process, all elective surgeries were canceled, medical personnel furloughed, and hospital finances crippled. What laid us low was not the number of beds or the number of ventilators, but the lack of personal protective gear for the nurses and caregivers.

California Governor Gavin Newsom paying a Chinese company $500 million up-front on a billion-dollar contract for PPE. Of course, he refuses to release the details of the transaction, with some claiming he needs the secrecy to keep the federal government from swooping in and confiscating the supplies. BYD, the company with ties to the Communist Chinese government, has no known expertise for manufacturing PPE, their expertise lies in electric vehicles and lithium batteries. Talk about rewarding our enemies and ignoring Americans?

Massive wealth distribution...

Why should the citizens of states who have fiscal responsibility, sensible spending, and lower taxes provide funds to states who are giving money and support services to illegal aliens?

Why should we bail out pension funds that are the product of policies created by corrupt politicians and their union cronies?

We are borrowing money from past, current, and future citizens to redistribute money to others -- many unworthy of consideration -- to save political jobs.

Bottom line...

Can anyone explain why, in the face of the newest spending bill expansion from one-quarter trillion to one-half trillion -- with the Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer getting virtually everything they wanted -- the Republicans are celebrating this as a great victory? Perhaps, I would, too, if it wasn’t my money and I was immune from the consequences of my actions.

This is Venezuelan economics. The government is sending billions to cities, counties, and states and their special interests while men and women who have worked their whole lives, saved their entire lives are as financially dead as if they were stricken with the virus. Talk about inequality and disparity between the rich and the poor – how about taking a closer look at the gap between those in the public sector and those in the private sector?

Where did the 2.2 trillion in previously authorized spending go? Why is Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, a big-spending progressive, allowed to bankrupt the nation?

Why are petty tyrants telling us what to do -- even though the numbers are murky and the path unclear?

When the final tally perhaps shows that the current pandemic was the equivalent of a bad flu season, who will we blame for the destruction of our republic, our economy, and our lives? We must blame us -- for allowing these reprobate politicians to hijack our republic and our economy.

Do you realize that President Trump and the progressive socialist democrats have done more to advance the progressive agenda in four months than at any time in history?

We are so screwed.

How is it possible that Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) has not been sanctioned for his demonstrable, deplorable, and disingenuous lying?

Schiff wrote a rebuttal memo that stated that Representative Devin Nunes’ memo detailing corruption and anti-Trump bias at the FBI was false and full of distortions and misrepresentations based on classified information in Schiff’s possession.

“The HP SCI Majority's move to release to the House of Representatives its allegations against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) is a transparent effort to undermine those agencies, the Special Counsel, and Congress' investigations. It also risks public exposure of sensitive sources and methods for no legitimate purpose. FBI and DOJ officials did not "abuse" the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) process, omit material information, or subvert this vital tool to spy on the Trump campaign.”

As more and more information from the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of State, and other agencies are declassified, we now see that Adam Schiff is a bald-faced liar who knowingly lied to Congress and the American people.

Schiff continued to claim that he had “ample of evidence of collusion in plain sight” and that evidence of collusion has been borne out of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report. Unfortunately, the Mueller Report turned out to be exculpatory and was replete with distortions, omissions, and other significant flaws – not to mention the abysmal performance of a clueless Mueller before Congress. So why did Adam Schiff refuse to present his “evidence” as part of the Trump impeachment trial in the United States Senate? Over and over, Schiff claimed he had special “classified” information which he never released.

Now comes the latest Schiff show…

It appears that Schiff is calling for another investigation into the Attorney General Barr’s statements concerning the firing of Inspector General of the Intelligence Community (ICIG) Michael Atkinson.

There is no doubt that Adam Schiff and his staff colluded and conspired to engineer a complaint of President Trump’s allegedly illegal conduct on a telephone call with the President of Ukraine. It appears that Atkinson was part of the collusion, changing and backdating the requirements of an official complaint as well as misinterpreting the law governing his oversight activities. Atkinson testified before Schiff’s Committee, yet his testimony remains classified and was never presented to Congress.

Atkinson was fired for cause and the unclassified information supports claims of Atkinson’s malfeasance, misfeasance, and nonfeasance. Like the firing of FBI Director James Comey, the firing was justified and supported by incontrovertible evidence.

Except from the Schiff and Nadler letter…

We write to request that you investigate whether recent public statements by Attorney General William Barr regarding former Inspector General of the Intelligence Community (ICIG) Michael Atkinson violated applicable Department of Justice (DOJ) policies and rules of professional conduct.

In a televised interview on April 9, 2020, Mr. Barr blatantly mischaracterized Mr. Atkinson’s conduct and DOJ’s own actions relating to the complaint filed last summer by an Intelligence Community whistleblower.

[OCS: If mischaracterizing information on a television show were worthy of investigation, Adam Schiff and almost every Member of Congress is guilty of unprofessional behavior.]

The complaint detailed President Trump’s efforts to coerce Ukraine to announce a politically-motivated investigation of his rival in the 2020 presidential election.

[OCS: Here the big lie is repeated. There was no coercion except in the minds of the Democrats who were trying desperately to find a hook with which to attack President Trump.]

Mr. Barr’s remarks followed the President’s admission on April 4 that he fired Mr. Atkinson in retaliation for Mr. Atkinson’s handling—in accordance with the law—of the whistleblower complaint.

[OCS: From what we know about FBI Director James Comey and ICIG Atkinson, both were fired for cause, and if justice is to be served, should be investigated and prosecuted.]

The House of Representatives’ investigation independently confirmed the whistleblower’s account of the President’s abuse of power, for which the President was subsequently impeached.

[OCS: Yes, the President was impeached by the Congressional Democrats on unprecedented and unconstitutional grounds – and cleared of wrongdoing by the U.S. Senate.]

Mr. Barr’s misleading remarks appear to have been aimed at justifying the President’s retaliatory decision to fire Mr. Atkinson.

[OCS: There is no proof that the President fired Atkinson as retaliation. But there is proof of Atkinson’s misbehavior.]

In maligning Mr. Atkinson and falsely portraying him as insubordinate, Mr. Barr misrepresented DOJ’s legal opinion concerning the whistleblower complaint.

[OCS: Where is evidence that AG Barr misrepresented anything? Especially because AG Barr appears to choose his words carefully and is not beholden to any political party.]

Mr. Barr’s remarks also ignored the impropriety of DOJ’s coordination with the White House to prevent a whistleblower complaint concerning presidential misconduct from reaching Congress.

In order to keep Congress in the dark about the existence of the complaint, the White House and DOJ collaborated to develop meritless justifications designed to circumvent the clear statutory requirement that all such complaints “shall” be transmitted to the congressional intelligence committees.

[OCS: The Inspector General of the Intelligence Community is restricted to investigating misconduct of the intelligence committees and has absolutely no legal authority to investigate Presidential activities or matters relating to foreign policy. The entire complaint was based on secondhand and sometimes bogus information from an individual who appears to have conspired with other individuals and Schiff’s staff to mount a political operation against the President of the United States.]

Public confidence in our system of justice depends on the integrity, fairness, and impartiality of DOJ’s leadership. It is, therefore, imperative that the Attorney General be held to the same high standard expected of all Department personnel, particularly in matters involving the President’s own interests. We appreciate your prompt attention to this request.

[OCS: Where were Adam Schiff and Jerome Nadler, when Attorney General Loretta Lynch met with Bill Clinton before his wife’s FBI interview or when the leadership of the DOJ and FBI were found to be corrupt?]

Bottom line…

This is just another publicity stunt by Schiff and Nadler to demonize the President of the United States.

I am waiting for Schiff to release the Michael Atkinson transcript and the next Congress censuring or removing Adam Schiff – provided the GOP wins back the House, improves their Senate Majority, and retains the Presidency.

We are living in perilous times and can no longer afford to give any progressive socialist democrat the benefit of the doubt. They are an evil and malignant cancer on the body politic.

We are so screwed.

While we continue to excoriate the un-American progressive socialist democrats for exploiting the current COVID-19 pandemic to advance their radical authoritarian progressive agenda, let us not forget the highly-paid corporate executives and businessmen who are using the pandemic to excuse poor past performance and execute reductions in force without media and public outcry.

The vast majority of businesses today are postponing their capital expenditures (CAPEX) and operational expenditures (OPEX). Many are allocating resources only to the core, cash-producing products and services.

Some, as part of the cost reduction regimen, are cutting back on traditional advertising – and in some cases, discovering that their advertising was ineffective and unlikely to be repeated when this recession passes.

We are seeing companies outsourcing more non-core services better performed by others, mostly specialized business processing outsourcing companies who are willing to share the savings generated by economies of scale in the form of lower costs. We are also seeing nervous and scared executives engage consultants to provide plausible deniability for any accidental or deliberate adverse consequences—especially those managers who want to distance themselves from the distasteful task of laying off employees.

While financial institutions are touting their customer-care programs, you are not seeing the lobbyist-driven politicians calling for economic reforms for a system of legal “usury.”

Bottom line…

With all of the wonderful things that individual executives and companies are doing for their employees or their broader communities, there will always be those executives who exploit the company’s resources for their greater glory. Much in the same manner, politicians are purchasing votes and influence with taxpayer funds.

There is one positive outcome of the pandemic; it has concentrated our focus on the individuals, organizations, products, and services that really count to make our life sustainable and enjoyable.  One positive consequence of Rahm’s observation is that necessity is overcoming many of the politically-enforced mini-monopolies that are promoted by special interests. Like using telemedicine, the widespread use of well-qualified Nurse-Practitioners to deliver quality healthcare, and long-distance learning, which is making a mockery of expensive educational institutions teaching decades-old material.

While one can find many positive acts of courage, charity, and sacrifice, you can also encounter self-serving narcissists who will exploit anyone and any opportunity.

We are so screwed.

The COVID-19  pandemic has plunged California — the world’s fifth-largest economy — into recession and has hit Californians hard.

Driving the “recovery” is Governor Gavin Newsom’s hand-picked group of well-heeled progressives who are all representative of special interests with business pending before the State of California. Their wealth, position, power, or political connections isolate them from the consequences of their public policy decisions and recommendations that will guide the recovery effort.

The truth…

(1)  The COVID-19 pandemic did not cause California’s recession. The decimation of the world’s fifth-largest economy was created by public policies promulgated by the un-American progressive socialist democrats that control almost every aspect of California’s governance. You can practically hear them chuckle as they shut down businesses and impose authoritarian controls on the California population.

(2)   Hyper-partisan politics and big-money special interests will dominate the recovery.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has created an economic recovery council of 80 leaders from various sectors across the state to help shape recovery efforts from the current crisis that has ravaged the world’s fifth largest economy and pushed it into "a pandemic-induced recession."

Newsom announced the volunteer, non-partisan council Friday afternoon at his press briefing in Sacramento where he named some of its members, representing the “best and brightest minds we could source,” including all four living former California governors, business leaders, social justice warriors, tribal leaders, health care professionals and small business owners. Those governors include Jerry Brown, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gray Davis and Pete Wilson, and others include Walt Disney executive chairman Bob Iger, Apple CEO Tim Cook, former federal reserve chair Janet Yellen, PolicyLink’s Angela Blackwell and more.

Newsom’s chief of staff Ann O’Leary will serve as co-chair alongside former presidential candidate and billionaire philanthropist Tom Steyer, the latter of whom was on hand to offer remarks about why he’s joined the effort and read the group’s mission statement, saying it is to “develop a strategy to help California recover as fast and as safely as possible from the COVID-19 recession.” He added that the board-based effort, featuring leaders from both the public and private sector, will give particular focus to those hardest hit by the pandemic, including lower wage workers and those in underserved communities. <Source>

[OCS: Consider that the economic recovery counsel, co-chaired by Ann O’Leary (former senior policy advisor in the Bill Clinton Administration and legislative director to Senator Hillary Clinton) and progressive global warming nutcase billionaire Tom Steyer, is illustrative of the progressive and partisan nature of the committee.
Read the list of members here and consider what these people have in common with most Californians. The group includes Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong as the owner of the Los Angeles Times with no mention that he is the developer of a COVID-19 medication that he needs trialed and mass-manufactured at significant cost.]

(3)    Fiscal prudence will not be a consideration.

Governor Gavin Newsom’s projects will be given priority as Newsom prepares for a presidential run in 2024. Votes will be purchased and promises exchanged.

The public employees’ unions will be given major consideration.

State government employees will continue to receive full salaries and benefits – even while they are furloughed or idled.

Unions will continue to drive labor costs of any infrastructure spending upward, delay project completions, and demand that two or more individuals perform a single task.

Developers and landlords will continue to benefit from the infusion of funding for properties to house the homeless at premium – not discounted – prices.

Social justice warriors and poverty pimps will all demand carve-outs.

Providing support, including cash stipends, for illegal aliens will be a major consideration.

California will lobby the federal government to provide unrestricted funds that can be used to close a Democrat-created budget gap and help fund unfunded state pension liabilities.

California State pension funds will continue to invest in China, even though they are the proximate cause of the current crisis.

Government will expand.

Taxes will continue to rise to compensate for less state revenue caused by reduced state economic activity. A vicious spiral downward.

The courts will continue to fund far-left causes with pre-arranged settlements between complicit parties.

(4)    Accounting systems will continue to be defective by design, and billions in special interest theft will be disguised in the catch-all of “waste, fraud, and abuse.”

(5)    Voting systems will be further compromised to optimize Democrat vote theft. Look for radical community organizers to lead the vote-stealing effort.

Bottom line…

The Economic Recovery Council is a joke being perpetrated on Californians by the progressive socialist democrats who have proven time-and-time-again that they will use any crisis to promote their toxic ideology, advance their progressive agenda, and claim that they are best serving Californians.

As with everything progressive, the un-American progressive socialist democrats achieve power by managing real or imagined scarcity and creating classes of victims who are promised a chance to redress their grievances in exchange for political power.

We are so screwed.
