CORONAVIRUS: PAINFUL LESSONS
COVID-19: IT'S THE GOVERNORS WHO ARE DOING THE DAMAGE, STUPID!

TRUMP DID NOT SHUT DOWN THE ECONOMY -- YOUR GOVERNOR DID THE DEED

usa-closed

I am tired of hearing the ignorant talking heads and chattering class, especially those residing in New York and California, who continue to blast President Trump for this economic train wreck.

FACT: Under the enumerated powers of the U.S. Constitution and the Article II powers of the Presidency, the President does not have the power, legal authority, or police powers to command any state to take action with respect to public health, including quarantines, travel restrictions within the state, and business closures.

These powers belong to the states and administered by its governor and legislature, depending on the state's constitution.

Specifically, the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution governs states' rights, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

UPDATE: However -- using the Commerce Clause, it appears that the President can exert power over the states in the name of interstate commerce.

Therefore, it is the states themselves that can determine when to lift quarantines, travel restrictions, and reopen businesses.

The crucial question not being asked by the Democrat-dominated mainstream media is: Does your governor hate President Donald J. Trump so vehemently that they are willing to sacrifice your state’s economy and the nation's welfare to attempt to oust President Trump from the White House in 2021?

Ask the governor…

When will the draconian or nonsensical Chinese Coronavirus response measures end? Ask your governor.

Why was the state ill-prepared to render assistance to local entities? Ask your governor.

Why are the state’s politicians playing partisan politics with people’s lives? Ask your governor.

But do not expect a straight answer if your governor is trying to capture the Democrat Party nomination for the Presidency in 2020 (New York Governor Andrew Cuomo) or 2024 (California Governor Gavin Newsom; Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker).

The city leadership is no better…

In the early days of the Chinese Coronavirus pandemic, we can look back and find the Mayor of New York and other officials urging their constituents to go fearlessly about their business while suggesting calling the Wuhan virus by its formal name SARS-CoV-2, or coronavirus to avoid being racist and disparaging Chinese individuals.

For most of last week, as Mayor Bill de Blasio continued to urge New Yorkers to mostly go about their daily lives — sending their children to school, frequenting the city’s businesses — some of his top aides were furiously trying to change the mayor’s approach to the coronavirus outbreak. There had been arguments and shouting matches between the mayor and some of his advisers; some top health officials had even threatened to resign if he refused to accept the need to close schools and businesses, according to several people familiar with the internal discussions. <Source>

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi led a closely-packed media gaggle down the street of her city’s Chinatown  and proclaimed, “… But also to say to everyone: we should come to Chinatown.  Precautions have been taken by our city.  We know that there is concern surrounding tourism, traveling all throughout the world, but we think it’s very safe to be in Chinatown and hope that others will come. It’s lovely here.  The food is delicious, the shops are prospering, the parade was great.  Walking tours continue.  Please come and visit and enjoy Chinatown.” <Source>

And, of course, Trump himself stirs the pot…

It is not unknown for President Trump to revert to his New York braggadocio and hyperbole – placing himself at the center of the media universe by tweeting or declaring:

"The president of the United States has the authority to do what the president has the authority to do, which is very powerful."

"The president of the United States calls the shots."

"When somebody is the president of the United States, the authority is total. The governors know that. And that's the way it's got to be."

"The federal government has absolute power. As to whether I'll use that power, we'll see."

All of which is demonstrably false to some degree, but wind-up the media into a frenzy.

Bottom line…

Much of the power the federal government exerts over the states is through persuasion, exposure of embarrassing behavior of wrongdoing, bribery, returning tax money or funding projects for preferable behavior, or coercion, the threat of federal investigations of individuals and institutions.

Considering what the un-American progressive socialist democrats have done to America in pursuit of political power and the promotion of their toxic political ideology, it remains an open question whether or not the Democrats will continue to put their own self-interests above those of their constituency. And suffer the consequences at the ballot box.

We are so screwed.
