After the corruption and bogosity of the progressive socialist democrats and their attempt to alter our economy, our standard of living, and our freedoms with specious claims about global warming, why am I suspicious of scientific research that may be used to further abuse private property rights?

A question of biblical proportions: What is the role of man as the steward of our planetary resources and do human wants and needs take precedence over those of flora and fauna?

Genesis 9:1-4 (King James Version)

9:1      And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.

9:2      And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.

9:3      Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

9:4      But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

Until the environmental movement was infiltrated by socialists and communists looking to fund their agendas and use our own laws against us, environmentalism was concerned, rightly so, with the reduction of pollution in the land, water, and air; and the management of wildlife in a prudent manner.

Now we find the environmentalists attempting to implement the socialist/communist agenda of gaining political control by managing real or imagined scarcity in resources for the benefit of the collective; suppressing private property and other individual rights as a necessary evil. To this end, they are trying to implement the socialist goals of: population control, reduced industrialization, lower standards of living, reduced personal freedoms, and more central planning by government elites who know best how people should live and behave.

In order to generate public support for onerous, some would say draconian, and unpalatable public policies, the progressive socialist democrats are trying to use science as a tool to convince the gullible, the unthinking, and the apathetic that we must implement these policies or face a planetary disaster some time in the future.

So why am I concerned about this study?

Are Human Behaviors Affecting Bird Communities in Residential Areas?

A new study from the Wildlife Conservation Society shows that habitat alteration may be less important than other factors– such as human behavior– in driving the effects of “exurban” development on bird communities. These unexpected results are fueling more questions that may ultimately lead to informed landowners lessening their impacts on local wildlife.

Exurban development is generally rural residential development in attractive natural areas characterized by low density and large lot sizes. Through myriad impacts including the fragmentation of habitat, disruption of animal movement patterns, and predation or disturbance from domestic pets, this type of development can result in altered wildlife abundance, species composition and behavior in a surrounding ecosystem.

The study found the response to the subdivisions was similar in the two ecologically distinct ecosystems, with Neotropical migrants, low-nesters, and area sensitive species being negatively impacted and edge specialists benefitting. The impacts were greatest on the low-nesting species such as ovenbird, hermit thrush, and winter wren in the Adirondacks and Brewer’s, savannah and white-crowned sparrows in the west with 70-100 percent change in abundance between subdivisions and control sites.

While the authors could not conclude from the work that one system may be more or less vulnerable than the other, the similar response among groups in both regions suggest that factors other than habitat structural change may be at work.

Among the possibilities of primary influence on bird communities in exurban areas? Human disturbance.

The findings have prompted a follow-up study now underway in the same locations. The ongoing study is investigating how habitat structural change as well as human disturbance factors such as noise and nighttime lighting impact bird and mammal communities.

The results of the study, say the authors, “indicated a need for further research into mechanisms other than habitat structural change as drivers for bird community responses to exurban development.” Discovering those patterns may help inform and lead to better land and residential management and planning decisions.

WCS Livelihoods Coordinator Heidi Kretser said, “These findings underscore the importance of understanding the role humans play within an ecosystem and could potentially lead to specific recommendations for landowners to minimize their impacts on local biota.”

Today research, tomorrow government control …

Southern California is receiving a limited amount of water – crippling the economy, bankrupting farmers, raising prices, sending supplicant to politicians with cash-in-hand, and reducing our standard of living. All to protect the Delta Smelt – a small fish with no known use and who have survived periods of drought (even with water turned to mud flats) without harm. Spending hundreds of millions of dollars on diversionary projects and mitigation efforts. Not to mention the continuing legal costs.

Corrupt politicians and de facto laws …

It is not unknown for the government to collude with environmental groups to bring about a lawsuit that the government will conveniently lose. The judge imposes a penalty and sets new rules and regulations that favor the environmentalists and disadvantage the taxpayer, consumer, and local residents.

Bottom line …

We must start scrutinizing government research grants to see if they are designed to advance a political agenda; especially those who use specious methodologies to produce politically useful reports with little scientific or practical value.
