2015 Happy New Year from One Citizen Speaking ...

Happy New Year Animated Text and Bubbles; Happy New Year clip art graphics Clipart Animaciones Gratis.

New Year is always about dreams and new beginnings ... A time of stupid resolutions which are impossible to keep and unrealistic dreams that have less probability of than being the sole winner of a $500 million Powerball jackpot.

About those dreams ...

The truth is, that while it might be nice to be a billionaire, very few people can handle the single-mindedness of purpose, the fear that it will all go wrong, the sense that people are interested in your money and not you, and of course, your companion is waiting until they are vested enough to walk away with a significant chunk of your fortune. Charities and others who now invite you to events, hoping that notoriety and peer pressure will open your checkbook in return for a building naming opportunity or fawning media coverage.

Yes, the homes, the cars, the servants and the ability to jump on your own plane -- making your own itinerary and schedule -- might be fun, until the day you realize that you can't simply sit on the couch eating pizza and laying about in your underwear.

In many instances, people who dream about success never realize that they have achieved their dream. Mostly because it is not cast in the form that they imagined. These people who have good health, a steady income and a faithful companion -- may look outward and wonder why they have never achieved their dream.

And, besides, how many people know that while a Ferrari is fun to drive, its front clearance between the road and the air-dam is so small as to make even moderate potholes a major danger to your car and pocketbook. Not to mention the lack of any real luggage capacity and comfort for long road trips. Perhaps as a second car after the luxurious Bentley or versatile Range Rover?

About those resolutions …

Psychologists are constantly reminding us not to make resolutions that we are not likely to keep in the coming year and only serve to increase stress and frustration.

Therefore, I resolve …

To be more accepting of people and organizations for what they are – and not waste my time, energy or money trying to change them.

Barack Obama and his cadre of progressive socialist democrat fellow travelers are unlikely to change. Therefore, I will concentrate my energies on exposing their foibles and perfidies and helping to prepare for the 2016 presidential election to win back two-thirds of the government.

The GOP, run by the Northeastern liberal elites from Ivy League colleges, appears to be hopeless. They have not articulated a conservative platform and have not put forth any attempt at real leadership. I will save my money and support for those local and state candidates which meet my standards. The era of the responsible political party appears to be dead as both parties are neck-deep in promoting special interests in return for campaign contributions and voter support. Corruption, complacency and stupidity abounds, whether it is democrat-flavored or republican-flavored.

The Marxist-unions appear to be the second most dangerous force in America, right after the democrat party which they appear to control. We need to demand that the politician-union conspiracy end now before we are all bankrupt socialists.

To assist in preventing fringe candidates from taking center stage within the GOP and causing another tragic loss with their insistence that the GOP address unwinnable social issues such as abortion, gay rights and the re-imposition of religion into government activities.

I will not vote for another Bush!

To continue to make technology serve my needs …

To clean the air filters in front of my computer fans and to blow-out the case. To dump the crumbs out of my laptop keyboard and use compressed air to clean the fan area.

To change the names of all my folders in my email system using a prefix of 2015. Starting out the year with empty folders and archiving the rest on removable media. (Hint: Don't forget to change your e-mail rules if you use rules to sort your e-mail into categories.)

To remove all of the programs I installed because they sounded cool or promised some benefit which I seem to have forgotten or ignored.

To clean out “My Documents” folder by archiving everything under a sub-folder labeled 2014-history.

To clean off my desktop of unused folders and icons (which should provoke laughter among my friends and others who have seen my screen).

And, to back up my cleaned-up system using a decent backup program like Acronis.

To reduce the number of devices I use to accomplish real work and/or amuse myself.

To clean my desk …

A project best undertaken one folder at a time. I resolve not to print so many hardcopies of electronic files, although I am still afraid of electrocuting myself using a laptop to read in the bathroom.

To re-purpose my Tschokes …

I think that there must be some charity left that would be appreciative of those serviceable things which I now regard as “clutter.” And if not a charity, perhaps someone who is struggling and can find benefit in things I no longer use. Strangely, schools no longer want books or electronics – only donations.

To take more time off …

For those who know me, I can work anywhere and am most likely thinking about something other than my immediate surroundings. I have never succeeded in turning off the flow of ideas – but perhaps I can staunch the flow.

And most of all …

To appreciate what I have and to share it with those I care about and who care about me.

IS YOUR STATE GUILTY OF ENGINEERED FISCAL DISHONESTY?

TW

Phony budgets, papering-over real-dollar deficits, handing millions to special interests …

While we all seem to know and appreciate the fact that politicians in every statehouse in the nation are a corrupt lot, accepting legal bribes from the special interests and pandering to the most vocal of the odious political activists, few of us realize the depth to which these corrupt politicians are selling out our states and municipalities for a little up-front cash to paper-over their fiscal improprieties and transgressions.

And, it is amazing to me that a progressive investigative reporting news site, Pro Publica, and partially funded by the progressive George Soros, would be the one to blow the whistle on this despicable behavior …

Behind New Jersey’s Tobacco Bond Bailout, A Hedge Fund’s $100 Million Payday

When New Jersey decided to bail out some of its tobacco bonds, the state gave up $400 million in future revenues to pocket $92 million immediately, an arrangement that also helped one savvy investor cash in on a big bet.

A landmark 1998 settlement with Big Tobacco awarded states billions of dollars a year to offset health-care costs of smoking. In many cases, the income became a debt trap when state and local governments traded it years in advance for upfront cash.

January 2007: As part of a $3.6 billion bond issue, New Jersey issued two capital appreciation bonds, or CABs, backed by its share of the 1998 tobacco settlement. Investors who buy CABs do not get paid cash interest over time. Instead, their investment compounds into a big amount due at maturity. In New Jersey’s case:

  • The 1B CAB raised $126 million from investors and promised to repay $855 million at maturity in 2041
  • The 1C CAB raised $60 million from investors and promised to repay $426 million at maturity in 2041
Series 2007-1B CABs:

February 2011: Starting in 2011, Claren Road Asset Management bought up 95 percent of the 1Bs, or about $809 million of the amount due on the Series 2007-1B CABs at maturity. Trading data indicates it paid on average about 5 percent of the maturity value. That includes a $615 million it bought in February 2011 for about 3.8 percent of maturity value.

March 2014: New Jersey decided to enhance the CABs with a pledge of additional money. Claren Road sold its holdings of the 1Bs to the state for about 15 percent of the $809 maturity value it held, producing a profit of about $80 million. Then, after the state enhanced the bonds, Claren Road bought them back at around 21 percent and resold them in the open market for about 24 percent, netting close to $28 million in additional profit.

Total estimated profit: about $108 million.

The money was intended to reimburse state governments for the past and future costs of smoking. In exchange for immediate cash, governments sold bonds that entitled investors to collect some or all of their annual settlement payments, often promising huge lump-sum payouts decades from the date of issue.

Now, nearly all of those bonds are careening toward default because of a steeper-than-expected drop in smoking. The tobacco settlement payments to governments are tied to cigarette sales, so there is not enough money to pay off the vast amounts promised on the bonds.

New Jersey's case illustrates the difficult choices the governments now face. If they let the bonds default, investors are entitled to keep collecting the tobacco payments they were promised until the debt is satisfied. The alternative is to cut new deals with bondholders, which also comes at a cost.

Read the whole sordid story at: Behind New Jersey’s Tobacco Bond Bailout, A Hedge Fund’s $100 Million Payday - ProPublica

There is little doubt that the participants, including the financial firms that participate in these financial charades, are politically well-connected and can rely on the last-minute desires of corrupt politicians to keep the truth about their finances from the general public lest their be a political uprising and a wholesale purge of politicians.

And, you can bet that New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie, himself a potential 2016 presidential candidate, knew about the situation.

Why New York is cracking down on selling “loosies?” …

Many protesters were outraged over the death of Eric “I can’t breathe” Gardner, the overweight asthmatic seller of single “untaxed” cigarettes who met his untimely death when he resisted arrest and was literally suffocated by police officers using a choke hold during a takedown.

So why did the city and state raise tobacco taxes (no including the cost of the cigarettes) to an unreasonable $5.85 per pack – $58.50 per carton? As a means of deterring smokers from killing themselves, or to cover a shortfall in manipulated bonds?

Who is asking about the outsize profits of purchasing cigarettes in a low-tax state and selling them in New York using street vendors and businesses willing to look the other way? Certainly not the Russian or Italian Mafia.

It’s happening everywhere …

How One New York County Fell Into the Tobacco Debt Trap

As they met at The Shamus, a favorite local lunch spot, on a September day a year ago, Niagara County officials considered some good news. Thanks to low interest rates, they might be able to refinance a big chunk of Niagara's tobacco bonds – debts payable from the county's share of a massive 1998 legal settlement with Big Tobacco.

But when details of the transaction became public last month, the biggest winner wasn't Niagara County, which received $2 million from the deal, but investors of Oppenheimer Funds, a large mutual fund manager that held deeply distressed Niagara tobacco bonds that were last in line for repayment.

Oppenheimer investors got $6.9 million for the bonds, which had been expected to default. That's more than triple the county's take and $5.1 million more than the value Oppenheimer carried on its books, according to data from Morningstar, which tracks mutual fund holdings.

Why did the last-in-line investors get a $5.1 million windfall while the county got a mere $2 million?

The answer lies in the shifting world of tobacco bonds, where big investors are pressing governments like Niagara to bail out bets that have turned bad, owing to a drop in smoking and a parallel decline in the settlement payments that underpin the bonds. <Source>

Hoist on their own petard …

The progressives that run the nanny state got their wish: smoking is down. But, faux do-gooders got stuck with the consequences when they decided to play games with money raised through sin taxes.

In some cases, selling and leasing back assets purchased with designated program funds in order to create funds that could be spent on their special programs or to paper-over past deficits.

And, as smart and sophisticated New Yorker’s believe themselves to be, they do not even approach the shenanigans found in California politics. Where even a Republican governor, albeit a RINO (Republican In Name Only) helped hide the true financial condition of a state operated by the progressive socialist democrats in the California State Legislature. Even to the extent of commuting the 16-year sentence to 7-years, for a high-ranking democrat whose son should have been given a life sentence for participating in a murder.

The big threat …

If politicians do not bail out the investors, their own financial chicanery will be publicly exposed and the public outcry for regime change will be in the air. Remember, these investors are not you or me … they are major political players who use lobbyists and others to carry campaign cash to politicians who play along with their game. The public be damned.

Bottom line …

If you are wondering why your city, county, or state is always short of funds and looking to increase revenues through fees and taxes, look no father than the corrupt politicians running the insane asylum.

Purchasing their positions with payoffs to the special interests and projects for the disaffected minorities. And timing the payoffs until they are long out of office.

Any rational examination of public purchasing and financial manipulation is likely to reveal that politicians have kicked the can down the road – until after they are out of office or the public’s attention has been diverted elsewhere.

We appear to be living in a time when the government profits – not from performing public services, but from criminalizing and taxing ordinary human behavior.

It is time to stop the plundering of our public monies for the purposes of keeping politicians ensconced in their cushy positions. Something stinks and it is time to take out the garbage.

AIRLINES CRY FOUL WHEN COMPUTER WHIZ SHOWS ORDINARY TRAVELERS HOW TO GAME THE SYSTEM FOR LOWER FARES

ai

Airline pricing: deceptive by design?

Like any other heavily government-regulated utility or entity, corporations use ever-changing tariff pricing schemes and complex rules and regulations to screw the consumer into paying a higher price for what is essentially a commodity; sending a message between two points, or flying from one point to another.

Now one computer whiz took advantage of the airlines to grab lower fares and offer advice to consumers…

Simply put, the smart kid on the block figured out that is was often cheaper to book a less desirable multi-stopover flight than a more expensive non-stop flight between the same two cities. And, playing on the cheaper fare, the passenger simply gets off at the stop-over and does not bother completing the rest of the flight. The practice known as “hidden city travel” is apparently legal since the airlines cannot hold you hostage and against your will, but is discouraged by the airlines (via fine-print rules and regulations) as the airlines try to game the system to maximize passenger fare revenue.

The airlines and their faux discounter “Orbitz” are upset that consumers are getting good deals that they do not control …

United Airlines and Orbitz, originally an online discount website owned by a joint venture of airlines and now a public company, has filed a federal lawsuit claiming that neither of these companies gave the computer whiz permission to link to their websites. I consider Orbitz and others in its category to be “faux” discounters because there is apparently nothing that would keep an airline, hotel, or car rental agency from auctioning off their own unsold capacity.

From the complaint …

  1. This is a federal-question and diversity action involving statutory claims under the Lanham Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1125, and common law claims under Illinois law. Plaintiffs assert claims against Zaman for federal unfair competition, tortious interference with contract, breach of contract, and common law misappropriation.
  2. Defendant Zaman, operator of Skiplagged, has used his website to intentionally and maliciously interfere with Plaintiffs’ contracts and business relations in the airline industry, and in doing so, has falsely associated Skiplagged with Orbitz and United. By promoting prohibited forms of travel on Skiplagged, Zaman has induced breach of Orbitz Worldwide’s travel agency contracts with commercial airlines and of United’s customer contractual relationships.
  3. Skiplagged promotes and makes available to consumers an airline booking ploy called “hidden city” ticketing. “Hidden city” ticketing refers to a travel arrangement where the passenger’s intended final destination is not the final arrival city on his or her itinerary, but rather an intermediate or connecting city.
  4. With intent to interfere with and cause breach of Plaintiffs’ contracts and to otherwise interfere with United’s ticketing processes, Skiplagged prompts consumers to book tickets from their departure city to a city to which those consumers do not intend to travel. Upon arrival at an intermediate or connecting city on the itinerary, the passengers leave the airport and “skip” the last leg(s) of their itineraries. In its simplest form, a passenger purchases a ticket from City A to City B to City C, but does not travel beyond City B.
  5. As explained further below, “hidden city” ticketing is strictly prohibited by most commercial airlines because of logistical and public safety concerns. When consumers purchase a flight through United, they agree to be bound by United’s prohibition against “hidden city” ticketing. Also, as further protection against this prohibited form of travel, airlines often require online travel agencies, such as Orbitz, to prohibit “hidden city” ticketing and other abusive ticketing practices.
  6. With full knowledge of these prohibitions, Zaman has provided and continues to provide a search tool that enables consumers to locate “hidden city” flights on Skiplagged and then purchase tickets for those flights through Orbitz’s website (www.orbitz.com) and United’s website (www.united.com). Neither Orbitz nor United has granted Zaman permission to engage in this prohibited form of booking or to otherwise offer their services. To the contrary, Zaman expressly agreed not to engage in this conduct when he entered into an affiliate agreement with Orbitz, LLC in early 2013. Orbitz, LLC has since terminated that agreement. More recently, Zaman agreed to stop engaging in this prohibited form of booking, only to continue the conduct unabated. At the same time, Zaman has taken steps to try to hide from Orbitz and United his continued bad conduct and breach of his promises to stop.
  7. Moreover, the process that Zaman uses to promote “hidden city” ticketing and prompt purchases of “hidden city” tickets constitutes a deliberate attack on Plaintiffs’ trademark rights. Despite his promise to Orbitz that he would cease and desist his redirection of users to the Orbitz website, Zaman continues to assist Skiplagged users in booking “hidden city” flights through Orbitz and to otherwise continue to link Skiplagged consumers to the Orbitz website.  Additionally, despite his assurances to United that he would remove all United content from Skiplagged, Zaman continues to include United content and flights on Skiplagged and continues to link Skiplagged consumers to the United website. These deliberately false associations that Zaman has created between Skiplagged and Plaintiffs threaten to confuse consumers, deceive the public, and damage Plaintiffs’ businesses.
Document #: 1 Filed: 11/17/14; Case: 1:14-cv-09214 United Airlines, Inc. et al v. Zaman; Charles P. Kocoras, Presiding; Date filed: 11/17/2014; Date of last filing: 12/29/2014

Does the airline have a case?

In my opinion, the airline does have valid points over the issue of safety concerning the calculated weight and balance of the aircraft, the possibility that the airline might delay the flight to wait for a missing passenger; or that a missing passenger could provoke a search or trigger a terrorist alert. As for the pre-load of fuel, the disadvantage of a heavier flight is compensated by a larger flight-time safety margin. They also have the right to control their intellectual property (trademarks and copyrights) and access to their websites.

But the real problem, in my opinion, is that the computer reservation system will falsely show that the flight is fully booked and deny any new passengers, entering at a stop-over, the opportunity to fly; thus inconveniencing another passenger.

Bottom line …

This is the type of case that makes me ambivalent. On one hand, I applaud the entrepreneur's efforts in gaming the system as a counter to the airline’s confusing and often deceptive pricing practices that prices one seat at $200 and the next seat over at $1000. And, on the other hand, I respect the airline’s right to operate their business in such a manner as to maximize their revenue and optimize their flight operations.

I think that the best outcome would be for the airline to hire the entrepreneur and see if his algorithm can be used to improve revenue generation and smooth-out flight operations.

POLITICAL CORRUPTION: THE FUNDING OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS WORKING FOR THE DEMOCRATS

It was former Representative Barney Frank (D-MA), the former Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, who suggested the GSEs (Government Sponsored Entitites) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were de facto instruments of public policy.

Both of these quasi-public mortgage companies have served as a piggybank for democrat causes, a source of political power in ailing democrat precincts, a source of jobs for those well-connected politically to the progressive socialist democrats, and a method of funding organizations like ACORN who not only provide counseling on housing matters, but mounted get out the vote drives for democrats.

Corruption ran rampant and the participants given a meaningless slap on the wrist, keeping tens of millions of dollars in compensation and bonuses, while the taxpayers fronted the costs of a multi-billion dollar audit to restate their financials. If there is any reason why public sector financial executives are not in jail, it is probably because they would also have to jail prominent progressive socialist democrats who served as executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

The socialist/communist ACORN is gone, but the diversion of funds to the democrats appears to be beginning once again …

mw Mel Watt

Mel Watt's Christmas Gift To ACORN And Democrats

The Obama regime has quietly ordered Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to start donating hundreds of millions of dollars a year to a permanent affordable-housing slush fund for Democratic activist groups.

Earlier this month, while few were paying attention, Federal Housing Finance Agency chief Mel Watt sent letters to the mortgage giants to "set aside in each fiscal year 4.2 basis points of each dollar of unpaid principal balance of new business purchases to be allocated to the Housing Trust Fund and the Capital Magnet Fund."

That's a 0.042% tax to equip the funds. HUD will run the housing fund; the Treasury Department will run the capital fund.

If the funds had been operating in 2010, when Fannie and Freddie together bought $856 billion in new mortgages, Fannie and Freddie would have pumped a whopping $360 million into the funds. Estimates put their total for fiscal 2015 at half a billion dollars.

The money will help build apartments for extremely low-income Americans, says Watt, the former Congressional Black Caucus leader whom President Obama hand-picked to regulate Fannie and Freddie. The funds will also help the poor afford their own homes through down payments and other assistance.

But nonprofit housing activist groups will distribute the funds. So count on money being diverted to ACORN fronts and clones, beholden to the Democratic Party, who in the past have laundered housing grant money to finance political campaigns.

As we've reported previously, ACORN affiliates are still operational in New York and other cities, having renamed themselves after ACORN was busted for fraud and corruption during the 2008 presidential campaign. They're also still receiving HUD housing grants.

Making matters worse, they're unaccountable to congressional appropriators, making them ripe for corruption and cronyism. We're talking about billions of dollars funneling through left-wing nonprofits and floating around in urban reinvestment projects sponsored by the likes of Rahm Emanuel and Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

Mel Watt's Christmas Gift To ACORN From Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac - Investors.com

Mel Watt’ checkered past?

Wall Street’s Favorite Racist

President Obama keeps telling the country who he is, and the country, to its continuing discredit, refuses to listen. The latest entry in the personnel-is-policy file comes in the form of Mel Watt, an irresponsible racist from the Democratic Socialists of America caucus, whom the president wishes to put in charge of the Federal Housing Finance Agency. On the record of his public pronouncements alone, Mr. Watt is unfit to hold any federal office; given that the FHFA has oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the corrupt government corporations at the center of the 2008 financial crisis, this nomination is particularly worrisome.

The acting director of FHFA, Edward DeMarco, has refused to approve across-the-board writedowns of underwater mortgages — a policy strongly favored by Obama’s allies at the many organizations that until recently operated under the ACORN umbrella. In other words, DeMarco has been slower than many housing activists and mortgage lenders would like in returning to the 2008 status quo ante and releasing a flood of government money into low-income lending. Thus the “Dump DeMarco” campaign organized by left-wing housing activists. That they settled upon Mr. Watt as the solution to their problem is not surprising. <Source>

Among the first things to do for the new 2015 Congress …

Pass legislation that criminalized the behavior of any organization or individual who diverts funds from any housing initiative into a political campaign or any other political activity that overwhelmingly benefits (51% test) a single political party.

Pass legislation that makes any organization or individual that provides financial counseling services on behalf of lenders or mortgage companies ineligible for government-related grants, fees, or any other funding if they co-sponsor or engage in any type of political activity in an election year.

Pass legislation that makes any organization or individual of a lender or mortgage company liable for any unsound loan made to an individual that clearly does not have the ability to repay the loan using conventional sources of sustainable income.

Instruct the financial regulatory agencies to add “political activities” to their list of audit guidelines.

Bottom line …

The progressive socialist democrats are going to use their influence to pander to women, minorities, the poor, and illegal aliens – including lowering credit requirements and subverting sound lending practices.

The progressive socialist democrats are going to use their influence to fund dual-purpose community organizations that serve as a conduit for housing funds and political activities such as favoring one-party when sponsoring “get out the vote” activities.

Crony capitalism and political corruption must end … or we will wind up with another Barack Obama, an incompetent, feckless leaders who cares little or nothing about America as he promotes the agenda of international socialists. Considering that Watt’s contributors include Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and other major Wall Street firms, hope for the bet, but do not expect much of the GOP.

Vote competence over color, substance over sex, capitalism over socialism/communism.

OBAMANOMICS SINKS IOWA HEALTHCARE INSURER?

Capture8-20-2009-12.56.52 PM

No matter what the government may claim, the insurance marketplace is not a free market. It is heavily regulated in the guise of keeping scam artists from bilking the public and the disappearing into the night.

Unfortunately, insurance, as a consumer product, is a method to mitigate the risks of life and must be actuarially sound in order to operate. That is, the premiums collected by the insurer should cover the cost of the insurer’s operations, including executive bonuses, the payment of verified claims, and a reserve that protects against the likelihood of claims overwhelming premium income in any particular period of time. The insurer even has the opportunity to spread the insurance company’s risk among other insurers known as re-insurers. The entire business model is a mathematical one based on statistics, past experience, and future projections.

Disruptions in the force …

And, it all works – unless something forces the insurer to move beyond sound and prudent insurance underwriting practices, limit their premium income, or dictate levels of coverage. Precisely the problem with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, known colloquially as Obamacare.

Under Obamacare, the government decided that the insurance policies that protected 80+ percent of the public were woefully inadequate by the standards put forth by the progressive socialist democrats. Likewise, the members of the elite ruling class believed that all premiums should be increased on those able to afford increased premiums to cover those who are unlikely to have or benefit from insurance coverage. They were relying on the younger insured who need little or no medical care to pay for the indigent and the senior citizens who are likely to need massive amounts of medical care at the end of their lives. To control costs, these elites would set up boards, commissions, and panels to determine what treatments were acceptable as normal and customary – and what treatments should be considered experimental or too costly to be allowed.

hc-curve

The dishonest MIT economist …

Unfortunately, even though the employed an arrogant and dishonest MIT Economist, Jonathan Gruber, to bamboozle the legislature, the media, the consumers, and the courts into accepting the precepts of Obamacare, they violated the first rule of commonsense. You cannot expand your healthcare network to cover additional millions of insured without a corresponding increase in facilities, physicians, diagnostic equipment, and support personnel. All of which costs additional dollars. They also violated the first rule of government economics: wishing it were different and legislating on feelings is not economically sound.

Defective by design …

So the end result appears to be the collapse of the insurance industry using legislation that is defective by design. Yes, they purposely designed a system that would be increasingly chaotic and failure prone so that it would fail over time. Leading consumers to demand that the government fix the insurance problem with single payer health insurance – socialized medicine – which is the progressive socialist democrat’s dream.

And it begins …

Insurance Commissioner Places Health Insurer CoOportunity Health in Rehabilitation

Company policies are no longer an option on Iowa Health Insurance Marketplace

Yesterday, on December 23, 2014, the Insurance Commissioner submitted a petition for an Order of Rehabilitation and the Polk County District Court issued an order appointing Insurance Commissioner Nick Gerhart as rehabilitator of CoOportunity Health, Inc.

CoOportunity Health, Inc. did not oppose this order in recognition of the financial concerns of the insurance division.  These concerns arose due to insufficient capitalization, the company’s inability to obtain additional capitalization from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the unavailability of federal payments of the risk mitigation programs until the second half of 2015, and extremely high health care utilization.

Under this order, CoOportunity Health is no longer offering enrollments in or applications for policies on the federal Health Insurance Marketplace for Iowa for 2015.  Additional details are in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document linked below.

Bottom line …

Insurance companies cannot set policy based on “feelings” and government “edits” – whether or not they are healthcare insurers or mortgage insurers like Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or the FHA. Insurers are not instruments of public policy and must be run in a fiscally sound manner to avoid catastrophe.

It appears that this insurer is highly dependent of government funding (“the company’s inability to obtain additional capitalization from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the unavailability of federal payments of the risk mitigation programs until the second half of 2015”) and should not exist at all if the are actuarially unsound.

Of course, the government is bribing the healthcare insurers to adopt Obamacare without squawking …

  1. By promising subsidies to make them whole (including executive bonuses) from taxpayer funds.
  2. By allowing them to continue their state semi-monopolies and not face competition across state lines.

In return, the politicians facing the upcoming 2016 election cycle are assured of larger-than-average political donations and intensive assistance from lobbyists.

Obamacare is what is wrong with a government governed by progressive socialist democrats who espouse a defective economic ideology that has failed to work anywhere in the world and has lead to some of the most repressive regimes in order to preserve the power of the ruling elites.

Eliminate corruption – eliminate progressive socialist democrats.

WE KNOW THAT BLACKS CAN RIOT AND LOOT, BUT CAN THEY BUILD PROFITABLE BUSINESSES?

fm

Something is wrong with the indigenous black culture in America today …

After listening to numerous black preachers explaining the war on black men, I have come to the conclusion that the primary difficulty with being black is listening to useful idiots like black preachers explaining why the are perpetual victims and life is stacked against them. Of course, this does not apply to non-indigenous blacks who value education and entrepreneurism rather than traditional black liberation theory steeped in classical Marxism.

To listen to these preachers, your skin color is everything, on a sliding scale from African black to mixed race white. Where your color – or at least your adopted racial identity as in the case of President Barack Hussein Obama, conditions your self-understanding and pre-determines the conditions governing your future life and expectations.

Playing into a “confirmation bias” where you see everything and everybody that does not look like you, sound like you, dress like you, and act like you as oppressive and contributing to your victimhood. Possibly reaching the conclusion that life’s deck is stacked against you so why try, why not accept government assistance, and riot and loot given the opportunity.

Seeing as black liberation theology is strongly linked with classical Marxism, it is only natural that the situation would be exploited by the progressive socialist democrats to solidify a cohesive voting block based on generating continuing dysfunction and victimhood. It is any wonder that the inner cities, governed by corrupt progressive socialist democrats, have higher poverty, lower literacy, greater health problems, decaying infrastructure, and are cesspools of crime – and these conditions appear to end at some arbitrary political boundary?

What is going on?

Ask yourselves where billions of dollars allocated to improving inner city conditions have gone? Ask yourselves why progressive socialist democrats talk about providing black preachers and other community activists with “walking around money” but rarely consult them during planning and decision-making time unless it is to oppose a non-union box store proposal?

But above all, ask yourselves why the progressive socialist democrats are pandering to illegal aliens when that clearly disadvantages a large part of the core constituency and support base? One need only look at areas such as Compton, California to see a formerly black community become Hispanic. Or read the gang task force indictment that mentions ethnic cleansing where Mexican gang members were consciously and conspicuously trying to drive blacks out of the community.

I believe that the events in Ferguson, Missouri are a microcosm of progressive socialist democrat politics … where blacks looted and burned businesses, many operated by black entrepreneurs, in their own community as a demonstration of their contempt for the law and the Grand Jury decision that saw a police officer absolved of criminal charges for shooting and killing the black thug that has viciously attacked him. Who led the protest? The progressive socialist democrats’ go to guy on racial issues, the “Reverend” Al Sharpton. Sharpton’s rhetoric, “No Justice, No Peace” in front of the national media ignited a firestorm whose effects are still being felt long after he left the scene. Has Sharpton been back to help clean-up the town, to promote new business, to engage in calming the waters? Hell no! The self-serving race-baiter and agitator is moving on to newer and more fertile fields. Perhaps to help Sony Pictures bring diversity to filmmaking?

Bottom line …

It is not like blacks lost out in some genetic lottery, they have the same abilities, more or less, as present in the general population. It is those that they trust, community leaders, opinion makers, and peers, that are leading them astray. Sometimes by not enforcing the same codes and disciplines that are routinely enforced elsewhere – giving a pass to unacceptable or deleterious behavior because they are black. Sometimes by artificially boosting achievement with affirmative action program – producing failure by placing them into situations where they are not adequately prepared and do not achieve at the same level as their new peers. And, sometimes by simply ignoring them and hoping they do not impact the lives of others.

It is time that we punish those who bully others who achieve at higher levels, both in school and in the community. It is time we remove the elites and nannies who tell others how they should look, sound, dress, act, and feel.

But, most of all – make everybody responsible for their own environment. No more artificial programs that are deliberately controlled by the unions and keep ordinary citizens from being paid to clean up their own communities – lest it disadvantage unionized municipal workers.

And, it is time to tell the politicians where to step off. Demand an accounting of the funding that is used to support the special interests and purchase votes in the community.

Look around Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago – and tell me that there are not thousands of jobs involving cleaning up the city – even if it is to demolish old buildings and build parks. Eliminate the union-influence and pay workers directly.

Start treating everybody as individuals, not as a collective to be managed for political purposes.

P.S. I am not stereotyping the entire community, nor am I ignoring the significant numbers of law-abiding citizens who want to get on with their lives and prosper in the same manner as everyone else. I welcome informed comments explaining where I am going wrong.

THE MARXISTS ARE MAKING THEIR MOVE: AWAY FROM HILLARY CLINTON TOWARD ELIZABETH WARREN

There is little or no doubt in my mind that progressives – a benign euphemism for socialists and communists, has infiltrated the democrat party, the government’s bureaucracy, our strategic institutions, and much of the nation’s critical infrastructure. Acting as a fifth column to destroy America’s constitution and power from within, on behalf of our enemies, both foreign and domestic.

As with all socialist and communist experiments to date, the leadership became decadent, addicted to power and a pampered lifestyle – and would do or say anything to preserve their political positions; including sucking-up to the very special interests that they shame and claim to abhor.

redflag

Now we are seeing the progressives move away from the democrat party. Primarily because the progressive socialist democrats are more about fundraising and defending their fast-eroding position against the GOP. And, secondarily, because the party’s frontrunner, Hillary Clinton – although a Marxist – is more about the pragmatism of position, power, and above all, self-serving wealth. It is making the hardcore progressives crazy that one of their own, Elizabeth Warren, is making Hillary Clinton look like a moderate pursuing a mainstream agenda. Someone that is not likely to throw progressive bombs and call for a revolution.

Divide to conquer … [my comments in blue italic]

The Democratic Party Keeps Screwing Up: Why Progressives Need to Be Independent of the Party

Progressives have no power in a corporate, focus-grouped, Wall Street-leaning party.

The Democrats’ conduct since the midterm debacle is as sad and sorry as the campaign that caused it. The party’s leaders are a big problem. A bigger one is the closed system of high-dollar fundraising, reductionist polling and vapid messaging in which it is seemingly trapped.

[It takes big bucks to field an on-the-ground team and pay for media advertising. High-dollar fundraising that is unavailable to the progressives because of their radical positions, call for revolution, and putting forth the type of centralized government that has been such a failure in all socialist and communist regimes.]

Some say a more populist Democratic Party will soon emerge. It won’t happen as long as these leaders and this system are in place.

[The current system, a product of decades worth of hard-fought political battles, is firmly in place. And, the type of leadership that appears to be favored by the progressives can only found with a Fidel Castro or Che Guevara spouting revolutionary rhetoric.]

Democrats are in denial regarding the magnitude and meaning of their defeat. It is a rejection not just of current leaders but of the very business model of the modern Democratic Party: how it uses polls and focus groups to slice and dice us; how it peddles its sly, hollow message and, worst, how it sells its soul to pay for it all. Party elites hope party activists will seek to lift their moods via the cheap adrenaline high of another campaign. For once, activists may resist the urge.

The vital task for progressives isn’t reelecting Democrats but rebuilding a strong, independent progressive movement. Our history makes clear that without one, social progress in America is next to impossible. For 100 years progressive social change movements transformed relations between labor and capital, buyers and sellers, blacks and whites, men and women, our species and our planet. But in the 1970s progressives began to be coopted and progress ceased. Their virtual disappearance into the Democratic Party led to political stultification and a rollback of many of their greatest achievements.

[This is exactly the same socialist/communist rhetoric you hear from union leaders and radicals whose political parties have been decimated by decades of failure.]

It also fosters denial. We know there can’t be a strong middle class absent a strong government to help create and sustain it. Social Security, Medicare, civil rights and labor laws, public education and market regulation are middle-class foundations. In the late ’70s they buckled and the middle class buckled with them.

[Again, we are seeing a lie … that all power to thrive and prosper must come at the hands of a government that fights inequality and provides incentives to “nudge” the population to equality of outcome. Unfortunately, we have seen the results of affirmative action where unqualified individuals are set up to fail when they are artificially placed in a competitive environment.]

It was around then that Wall Street began colonizing the Democratic Party and the Democrats began colonizing the left. After Jimmy Carter squashed Ted Kennedy, challenges to incumbent Democrats ceased. Grassroots movements morphed into Washington lobbies and formed their first PACs. For the sake of the Democrats in whom they’d reposed all their hopes and dreams, progressives moved their debates indoors.

[It is not so much that Wall Street began colonizing (there is that socialist rhetoric, again) the democrats; but that the democrats began to become increasingly corrupt and self-serving. Old-time democrats of principle – Pat Moynihan comes to mind – gave way to corrupt ideologues like Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, Maxine Waters, Barney Frank, Christopher Dodd, and others who sold their votes to the lobbyists who worked for the power players.]

We know these things but we don’t connect them and so we miss the chain of causation that runs from the left’s fall to the fall of the middle class and finally, the triumph of the right. Nor do we connect the left’s fall to its own choices. It has a victimization story worthy of a Fox News anchor, but in truth the left dismantled itself. Progressives traded their independence for a seat on the far end of the Democratic bench. Progressives turned their movements into mailing lists. Progressives put aside proven weapons of reason, passion and conviction for the shallow techniques of corporate marketing and modern electoral politics.

[The chain of causation begins with self-interest corruption and proceeds to unworkable socialist theories that demand an increase in the centralized command and control of the government – backed with the force of law and the coercion of government funding initiatives. When it comes to the middle class, the progressives were taking money out of the middle class with their larger government, higher taxes, wealth redistribution schemes to non-citizens, increasing entitlements to purchase political power, and the unions which serve as a hidden tax on all productivity in America – demanding increasing wages, perks, privileges, benefits, and retirement packages without a corresponding increase in productivity.]

Our problem isn’t partisan gridlock but the stagnation of a political ecosystem imbalanced by the slow extinction of liberalism. In the shutdown Ted Cruz bestrode the world like a colossus till the Kochs, of all people, rode to the rescue. Wall Street was a major player but labor was invisible and progressives said barely a word. Their silence didn’t strengthen Obama, it weakened him. It was a perfect tableau of politics in our time. When the left goes AWOL, the right goes crazy.

[The slow extinction of liberalism comes from the revelation that progressive policies do not work anywhere they have been tried and that the progressives, as a political class, are not only corrupt, but tend to be more self-serving as they peddle their toxic ideology.]

Democrats think they need more money, better ads and a bigger computer. They gripe about Republican wedge issues, but have their own; immigration for Latinos, choice for women, student loans for students.  What they need is a blueprint for solving problems that matter to everyone. Since the 19th century, progressive movements have created the blueprints and the public groundswells needed to enact them. Can progressives build such a movement in this century?

[Wedge issues? The democrats capitalized on “triangulation” and the co-opting of GOP issues courtesy of Bill Clinton and Dick Morris. Since talk was cheap, it cost them nothing to sound fiscally prudent and socially responsible – even while knowing that their progressive programs were rife with waste, fraud, and abuse and were likely to be counterproductive to society as a whole, and the middle class in particular.]

They can do it but they’ll have to take a time-out from electoral politics. They must declare their independence from the Democratic Party, its ineffectual politics and its current, clueless leaders. In the fall liberal pundits chastised Democrats who “ran from Obama.” Democrats lost because they couldn’t run from themselves. What they really needed to do was assure voters they saw the flaws in Obama’s program and had a plan to fix it. They didn’t have a plan because progressives never gave them one.

[Is a progressive author pointing our that the Administration’s policies, both foreign and domestic, are failures and that the current Administration is corrupt, inept, and incompetent? And, that they must campaign in such a manner as to distance themselves from failure while promoting a new age of “hope and change” that morphed into hopelessness and change for the worse? Keeping their failed ideology and moving forward in spite of having a Marxist in the White House and Marxists layered throughout the government?]

Democrats in Congress seem bent on mass suicide. After their landslide loss they reelected all their leaders without challenge. After the Senate confirmed two utterly unqualified Obama donors as foreign ambassadors, they caved on a budget that opened more sluices for the rich to pour money into politics and hollowed out Dodd/Frank to let Wall Street cover its bad bets with depositors’ money. In 2013 Obama said he wouldn’t “pay ransom” to pass a budget. In 2014 he did just that.

[Interestingly enough, this could be said for both sides of the aisle. The GOP got crybaby Boehner back. The same tough-talking Boehner who promised us reform and spent his time fighting the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party rather than crafting fiscally sound legislation. Caving into a pork-laden budget moments before the Christmas recess – although they knew all of the issues, the timeframes, and the necessity to produce a bi-partisan bill. So why wait until the last minute, unless it was all a sham – where both parties could return to their districts and bemoan the fact that it was rush, rush, hurry, hurry so if we didn’t get your specific pork, donate for the next cycle and we will take care of you.]

A Progressive Declaration of Independence is a risk, but it’s safer than idling about on deck as the Democrats’ ship goes down. Movement building is arduous work. Builders must agree on an agenda, finance and organize a base, communicate their vision, and help people apply the pressure needed to make change. It’s a huge task. If it hadn’t been done so many times before you’d think it was impossible.

[I see the announcement of a Progressive Declaration of Independence as tantamount to announcing the reformation and reemergence of the American Communist Party – a party that exists solely to serve as a fifth column within America to bring about the radical transformation of the United States into a democratic socialist state. Ruled by an enlightened elite for the benefit of the collective; managing resource for future generation, and becoming increasingly totalitarian to prevent a revolution over shared misery in a time of technological wonder.]

Some progressives will spend 2015 trying to lure Elizabeth Warren or some second or third choice into a run for president. Some will make their peace with Hillary. Some will take other paths. A public debate among progressives will unearth some disagreements on policy and a more fundamental divisions over strategy.

Some say the Democratic Party is beyond saving. Others say it’s our last hope. I see progressives taking leave of Democrats not as abandonment but more like tough love. In the end it may be the only thing that can save Democrats or for that matter progressives, whose reputation has been tarnished by the party that betrayed them. In any event it’s better for both parties for all future business to be conducted on an arms’ length, cash-for-carry basis.

[There are some democrats left who see what Barack Hussein Obama and his cadre of progressive socialist democrats has wrought in the land … as they ignore the majority of ordinary Americans and weaken our military, decimate our economy, inject pain and suffering into our healthcare system, and make us the laughingstock of the world. These are the democrats who are starting to come together in a bipartisan manner to solve real problems, not just further the socialist agenda. Pretty much the reason the progressives need to leave the democrats – drastically reducing their numbers to force them further left into socialism.]

My guess is that if you can’t take over the Democratic Party, you can’t take over the country — and that a declaration of independence should be followed by an actual rebellion. The Tea Party has shown you can work within a party and yet be highly independent. But whether to work within, against or apart from the Democrats is a call for later. Building a strong progressive movement is work we must do now. Obama had this right in 2008. We are the change we’ve been waiting for.

[There it is, in plain language, clear as a bell. The desire of progressives to take over the democrat party and then the country – creating a rebellion if they do not get their way, and a rebellion if they do get their way. If you had any doubts that President Obama was a Marxist/Communist, it should be dispelled at once.]

Progressives once provided Democrats with policies. Now Democrats provide them with slogans. Progressives say Democrats lack backbone and a bottom line, but progressives used to provide those too. Want politicians to get the courage of their convictions? It’s simple. First, get some convictions.  Courage will follow.

[Again, this could be said about both political parties. With special emphasis on the GOP who appears to have few core convictions other than getting elected and indulging in an orgy of self-destructive crony capitalism. There was a time when the GOP had it all – House, Senate, and Presidency – and squandered the opportunity. Likewise, there was a time hen the progressive socialist democrats had it all – House, Senate, and Presidency – and used it to takeover healthcare. Giving the progressives a comprehensive dossier and real-time tracking of all Americans and control over their future.]

You can choose to awake to an ugly truth, or die to a pretty lie …

The ugly truth is that there is little difference between the corrupt parties as they battle to take over America’s wealth and natural resources. The pretty lie is that the political parties and their politicians give a damn about the individual American and their freedoms.

Bottom line …

Wake up people, it’s our country and we are losing it to vocal radicals who do not wish us well. They are campaigning 24/7/365 and using the mainstream media to condition the people to receive their messages. Study the candidates, call out their lies, withhold donations from corrupt politicians – and above all, support the Constitution that has kept us a free people for 238 years, since 1776.

PROGRESSIVE MEDIA DRIVING CLINTON-BUSH CONFRONTATION TO BOOST RATINGS?

One continues to wonder how “honest” the progressive mainstream media might be in the upcoming 2016 election since they were “all in” for the coronation of Barack Obama – without extensive vetting, without critical analysis, with suppression of unfavorable news stories, and with the overblown coverage of “Bush failures.”

jb (4)

I for one do not believe that Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton are suitable candidates for 2016. Clinton due to outright corruption, cronyism, lying to the American public, and no significant accomplishments in any area that can be cited by ordinary Americans. As for Jeb Bush, the man is a RINO (Republican In Name Only) bringing with him relaxed immigration standards, open borders, promotion of the centralized Marxist education program known as “Common Core,” and the cronyism of the Bush family. One specific area of concern is the family’s relationship to Saudi Arabia and the continued classification of the “foreign involvement” section of the 9/11 report that is said by knowledgeable people to indicate Saudi involvement in 9/11.

Here are the recent CNN/ORC poll results being trumpeted on the Drudge Report’s top banner …

CNN/ORC Poll: Bush surges to 2016 GOP frontrunner

  • Jeb Bush leads the GOP field by 10 points, with 23% support
  • It's the first time any candidate has taken a statistically-significant lead over the GOP field
  • He's also the strongest GOP candidate in a match-up against Hillary Clinton

Jeb Bush is the clear Republican presidential frontrunner, surging to the front of the potential GOP pack following his announcement that he's "actively exploring" a bid, a new CNN/ORC poll found.

He takes nearly one-quarter — 23% — of Republicans surveyed in the new nationwide poll, putting him 10 points ahead of his closest competitor, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who tallied 13%.

Physician Ben Carson comes in third, with 7% support, and Sen. Rand Paul and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee are both tied for fourth with 6%.

Sixty-nine percent say they want a nominee that can beat the Democratic candidate for president, even if that person doesn't agree with them on every issue, while only 29 percent of GOP primary voters are purists.

And that makes Bush the candidate to beat in a GOP primary.

Out of all of the seven head-to-head GOP match-ups with Clinton tested, Bush fares the best, trailing her by just 13 points. She takes 54% support to his 41% support.

The survey was conducted by live interview among 1,011 adults nationwide from Dec. 18-21, with a subsample of 453 Republicans and 469 Democrats, via landline and cell phone. The overall sample has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points. Read more at: Poll: Bush surges to 2016 GOP frontrunner - CNN.com

The results are ludicrous …

  1. Early polling is worthless as most people over a holiday season are not concentrating on political arguments, but getting the interviewer off the phone and through the holidays.
  2. The progressive socialist democrats who are driving media coverage are assuming that Hillary Clinton will be the front runner. Given her age, medical history, histrionics, vindictiveness, and Marxism, she may simply be a stalking horse hoovering up campaign cash for the real candidate.
  3. Jeb Bush will trump most candidates due to name recognition – even with an apathetic audience. One needs only to see those man-in-the-street interviews where people cannot even name the Vice President or answer the simplest questions to understand that there is a serious problem in an electorate that responds to celebrity and name recognition rather than selecting an appropriate candidate. Jeb Bush is not even a formal candidate – but simply announced the formation of an exploratory committee.
  4. Chris Christie, the outspoken Governor of New Jersey lacks both the temperament and ability to be the President of the United States. While he will bring the fight to the democrats, he supports the unions, gun control, and there are significant questions regarding his handling of the response to the tropical storm that devastated the Ne Jersey shore line.
  5. Physician Ben Carson would be the first to tell you that laymen should not practice neurosurgery nor give medical advice. Although Carson is a decent man, he has no experience in government at any level and therefore is unsuitable for the position.
  6. Rand Paul is a small time grifter who managed to get a seat in the big boys game by talking conservative and taking over his father’s political machine. The mere fact that he will take money from white supremacists claiming he will take money from anyone and do as he believes is reminiscent of his father’s campaign. This is the modern day Lyndon LaRouche complete with LaRouchie cult followers.
  7. Mike Huckabee is a ruthless populist who destroyed all of his administration’s hard drives when he left the governorship of Arkansas. He is an entertainer and a rabble rouser – but lack the fundamental trustworthiness to be the President of the United States.
  8. The sample size is too damn small to really be indicative of anything – with 453 Republicans representing the nation and the entire political spectrum. Phone polls may be notoriously inaccurate with  varying results by time, question design, and the fact that the most informed people are likely to have unlisted phones.

Bottom line …

Beware of the progressive media drumbeat with their crappy polls to push a Bush-Clinton matchup to drive audience ratings, and screw the American public once again. The mainstream media has lost their journalistic credibility and, in the case of NBC, is the Marxist Media Outlet.

POPE FRANCIS AND THE CLIMATE SCAM: FAITH VERSUS SCIENCE

Many admire Pope Francis, for his outspoken message of church reform after significant billion-dollar payouts over sex-abuse by priests and others in the Church hierarchy. But, there is little doubt in my mind that the Pope is a Marxist, a proponent of wealth-redistribution, and open borders.

A message of faith from the man with his head in the clouds?

Now, the Pope appears to be heading into uncharted waters, the science of climate change. It appears that the Pope plans to vigorously campaign for climate change as a method of promoting wealth-redistribution and ministering to the impoverished.

pc

Whereas the Pope may have the moral authority to speak about theological matters involving the Catholic Church, he has no such authority or credibility when he speaks about science – especially science that is being used to drive public policies to advance international Marxism.

Pope Francis’s edict on climate change will anger deniers and US churches

In 2015, the pope will issue a lengthy message on the subject to the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics, give an address to the UN general assembly and call a summit of the world’s main religions.

The reason for such frenetic activity, says Bishop Marcelo Sorondo, chancellor of the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Sciences, is the pope’s wish to directly influence next year’s crucial UN climate meeting in Paris, when countries will try to conclude 20 years of fraught negotiations with a universal commitment to reduce emissions.

“Our academics supported the pope’s initiative to influence next year’s crucial decisions,” Sorondo told Cafod, the Catholic development agency, at a meeting in London. “The idea is to convene a meeting with leaders of the main religions to make all people aware of the state of our climate and the tragedy of social exclusion.”

Following a visit in March to Tacloban, the Philippine city devastated in 2012 by typhoon Haiyan, the pope will publish a rare encyclical on climate change and human ecology. Urging all Catholics to take action on moral and scientific grounds, the document will be sent to the world’s 5,000 Catholic bishops and 400,000 priests, who will distribute it to parishioners.

According to Vatican insiders, Francis will meet other faith leaders and lobby politicians at the general assembly in New York in September, when countries will sign up to new anti-poverty and environmental goals.

In recent months, the pope has argued for a radical new financial and economic system to avoid human inequality and ecological devastation. In October he told a meeting of Latin American and Asian landless peasants and other social movements: “An economic system centered on the god of money needs to plunder nature to sustain the frenetic rhythm of consumption that is inherent to it.

“The monopolizing of lands, deforestation, the appropriation of water, inadequate agro-toxics are some of the evils that tear man from the land of his birth. Climate change, the loss of biodiversity and deforestation are already showing their devastating effects in the great cataclysms we witness,” he said.

Cardinal George Pell, a former archbishop of Sydney who has been placed in charge of the Vatican’s budget, is a climate change sceptic who has been criticised for claiming that global warming has ceased and that if carbon dioxide in the atmosphere were doubled, then “plants would love it”.

Read more at: Pope Francis’s edict on climate change will anger deniers and US churches | World news | The Guardian

The insertion of the Catholic Church into secular matters such as climate control is both inappropriate and could be misleading should the Pope continue the fiction that the science is settled, and man is responsible in a large part for global warming of which there appears to be a pause that cannot be explained by scientists nor demonstrated by current computer modeling.

It’s no longer a matter of faith, but of measurement and hard numbers …

gw18.1

Bottom line …

The United Nations, as well as President Obama and his cadre of progressive socialist democrats, have asked you to believe them about the science of climate change and the need to implement public policies to curtail what is said to be a planetary emergency. Unfortunately, these public policies will affect our economy, our standard of living, and our personal freedoms – without one shred of tangible evidence that man’s climate signal can be measured against the noise and normal variability of nature’s climate.

Now, it appears that the Pope is asking us to take the Church’s word on a scientific matter; even though the Church has been known to get the science drastically and horribly wrong in the past.

Should the Pope continue to push for greater influence in secular matters, it would only be appropriate to revoke the Church’s tax exemption and demand that they pay their fair share of any costs involving climate mitigation.

Should the Pope misrepresent science or confuse and conflate global warming with wealth re-distribution or the advancement of a socialist agenda, there there is certain to be another crisis of faith among those that follow the Church, but not necessarily the Church’s leadership.

Science is not about faith, belief, or feelings – it is about controlled and purposeful skepticism. Putting forth a hypothesis, observing or designing experiments to verify the hypothesis, publishing the results, and inviting others to discuss, validate, invalidate, or modify the findings – until something better comes along.

The Pope needs to tend his flock and concentrate on spiritual matters. The minute he crosses the line into politics, he will be forever tarred with the brush of corruption to pursue a political agenda. The Pope is not guaranteed a place in heaven nor is he infallible when it comes understanding or predicting nature.

SONY HACK CONSPIRACY: FALSE FLAG TO CONDITION THE 2015 CONGRESSIONAL BATTLEFIELD?

bb1

A number of people have asked me about my blog post on the hacking of Sony Pictures and the possibility it was a false flag operation perpetrated by persons unknown to pursue a hidden agenda.

First, I have little or no confidence in an FBI that reports to the corrupt ideologue Attorney General Eric Holder who is less than trustworthy and has little or no credibility when it comes to major scandals swirling around the White House and various government agencies. The report makes a circumstantial case against North Korea based on information revealed to be less than conclusive. If the FBI has any real evidence – and it seems unlikely due to the time needed for forensic analysis – it is classified and unlikely to be revealed to the public. In essence, a government known to lie to the American public is saying “trust us.” It is unfortunate that we cannot trust President Obama, his cadre of progressive socialist democrats, and the government’s agencies.

Second, there is a problem with the government’s spying activities as witnessed by a last-minute document dump. How many high-ranking government officials have gone before Congress and lied.

False testimony to Congress on NSA surveillance programs

On March 12, 2013, during a United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence hearing, Senator Ron Wyden quoted the keynote speech at the 2012 DEF CON by the director of the NSA, Keith B. Alexander. Alexander had stated that "Our job is foreign intelligence" and that "Those who would want to weave the story that we have millions or hundreds of millions of dossiers on people, is absolutely false…From my perspective, this is absolute nonsense." Senator Wyden then asked Clapper, "Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?" He responded - necessarily committing the felony of lying to congress under oath - "No, sir." Wyden asked "It does not?" and Clapper said "Not wittingly. There are cases where they could inadvertently, perhaps, collect, but not wittingly."

When Edward Snowden was asked during his January 26, 2014 TV interview in Moscow what the decisive moment was or why he blew the whistle, he replied: "Sort of the breaking point was seeing the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, directly lie under oath to Congress. … Seeing that really meant for me there was no going back."  <Source

NSA Chief Denies Wired's Domestic Spying Story (Fourteen Times) In Congressional Hearing

General, an article in Wired Magazine reported this month that a whistleblower formerly employed by the NSA has stated NSA signals intercepts include “eavesdropping on domestic phone calls and inspection of domestic emails.” Is that true?

No, not in that context. The question that, what he’s trying to raise is, are we gathering that information the United States. No, that is not correct. <Source>

NSA reports detail decade's worth of privacy violations -- NSA Waits Until Christmas Eve to Reveal a Decade's Worth of Its Mistakes

The National Security Agency has quietly released more than a decade of reports detailing surveillance activities that potentially violated U.S. citizens' privacy rights.

Covering NSA activities from mid-2001 to 2013, the heavily-redacted reports document possible abuses, including instances of employees emailing classified information to unauthorized recipients or issuing “overly broad or poorly constructed data queries that potentially targeted” Americans.

The agency, required by executive order to submit the reports to the President’s Intelligence Oversight Board, posted the information publicly on Christmas Eve in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from the American Civil Liberties Union.

Third, there is important legislation that will be brought up in Congress. Reauthorization of key intelligence gathering activities, and more importantly, legislation governing the close cooperation between private industry and the government in preventing cybercrime. Cooperation that would allow the government to monitor, in real-time, the activities of major financial institutions and private corporations that are responsible for major infrastructure within the United States. This would be an unprecedented intrusion into corporate systems and potentially expose the details of private consumer’s and or citizen’s most personal and private information.

The conspiracy theory?

How best to convince private corporations to acquiesce to the government’s request that they be given real-time access to private, non-governmental computer systems?

How best to convince legislators that cyber-warfare is a clear and present danger – not only to the government and its military assets – but to the corporations that pour millions of dollars into campaign contributions?

How best to distract the general public from the failures of the current Obama Administration, including unconstitutional and criminal activities that must be redressed – even though it is believed, by myself and others, that President Barack Hussein Obama, will be handing out blanket presidential pardons for any and all crimes committed during the time when the individual was employed by the government.?

By demonstrating the costly take-down of a relatively inconsequential corporation and allowing gossipy corporate revelations about executives and celebrities to drive a media reporting frenzy?

Bottom line …

With the skimpy information presented by the government, the likelihood of a North Korean attack on a Japanese Company’s subsidiary is as likely as an “inside job by disgruntled IT employees facing layoffs and cutbacks,” or a government false-flag operation.

It is now up to the FBI to produce hard evidence that will stand up in a court of law if they want Americans to believe that the North Koreans hacked Sony to prevent a rather loopy and ridiculous movie from being released.
