California Senator Barbara Boxer, arguably one of the dumbest members of the Senate, has joined forces with Senator Dianne Feinstein and Representative Lois Capps, all progressive socialist democrats, to enact stricter gun control by allowing anyone who feels threatened to seek a court order to have the subject turn over their weapons to the police.

The point that progressive socialist democrats do not seem to understand is that crazies and criminals do not abide by the law, and will simply use anything at their disposal to intimidate, coerce, rob, main, or kill their victims. Even in a perfect world without guns, something that can be approximated in Great Britain, you have crazies and criminals using knives, baseball bats, iron pipes, etc. But, then again, progressive socialist democrats do not care much for commonsense or the truth as long as their nonsensical ideas demonstrate they are “taking action” and furthers the progressive socialist democrat agenda.

This headline is a lie – this legislation will not prevent gun violence, especially as practiced by crazies, criminals, and minority gang members who are the real problems in society …

Boxer, Feinstein, Capps Introduce Legislation to Help Empower Families to Prevent Gun Violence

New Senate and House Legislation Would Encourage States to Provide Families with New Tools to Help Prevent a Tragedy

In response to the recent mass shooting in the Isla Vista community near Santa Barbara, U.S. Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein (both D-CA) today introduced The Pause for Safety Act – legislation that will encourage states to empower families and others with new tools to prevent a tragedy if someone they are close to poses a threat of gun violence.

Congresswoman Lois Capps (D-CA), who represents the Santa Barbara area, is introducing The Pause for Safety Act in the House today.

It is haunting to me that the family of the gunman was desperate to prevent an act of violence and alerted police, but they were still unable to stop this tragedy,” Senator Boxer said. “When the people who know someone best fear there is a threat of violence, they should be able to go to court – with due process for everyone involved – to help prevent a tragedy.”

“We must do everything in our power to keep firearms out of the hands of those who pose a serious risk of harm to themselves or to others,” Senator Feinstein said. “I’m pleased to work with Senator Boxer on this bill, which creates a new grant program to encourage states to allow family members and others to seek court orders to temporarily prohibit dangerous individuals from possessing a firearm. The bill would allow those who know the most about the condition of someone who poses a risk of committing violence to take steps to remove firearms from that individual’s possession.”

“Our community in Isla Vista has been upended by this horrific act of violence,” Congresswoman Capps said. “We need reasonable, common sense solutions so that we all feel safe in our homes and out in our communities. This important bill will allow families who see disturbing warning signs the ability to work with law enforcement and mental health professionals so that they may intervene and better prevent acts of violence. Far too often there are many red flags but no one is able to connect the dots. This bill seeks to do just that.”

The Pause for Safety Act would encourage states to take the following steps to help prevent gun violence:

     • One, ensure that families and others can go to court to seek a gun violence prevention order to temporarily stop someone close to them who poses a threat to himself, herself or others from purchasing a firearm.
     • Two, ensure that a court can issue a gun violence prevention warrant that would allow law enforcement to take temporary possession of firearms that are in an individual’s possession if the court determines that the individual poses a threat to himself, herself or others.
     • Three, ensure that law enforcement makes full use of all existing state and local gun databases when assessing a tip, warning or request from a concerned family member or other close associate.

The measure would create a new grant program – the Pause for Safety Grant Program – to help support these efforts. States that take action to enact these preventive measures would be eligible for the grants to provide resources for courts and law enforcement as they implement these measures

In California, Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley), Assemblyman Das Williams (D-Santa Barbara) and state Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) recently introduced legislation that would empower families and others to go to court and seek these type of preventive orders and warrants if they fear someone close to them could commit an act of violence.

It should be noted that Barbara Boxer, speaking in reference to the mass shooting in Isla Vista (suburb of Santa Barbara), said, It is haunting to me that the family of the gunman was desperate to prevent an act of violence and alerted police, but they were still unable to stop this tragedy.” What Boxer did not say in her press release is more revealing.

One, the shooter had been under psychiatric care since his early years and not once did anyone report this fact to the appropriate authorities so that the shooter would have been denied access to his legally purchased firearms.

Two, the shooter was on psychotropic medication and the U.S. Department of Justice; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Firearms Transaction Record Part I - Over-the-Counter (ATF Form 4473 (5300.9) Part I -- Revised April 2012) only asks, “11e. Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”  If Barbara Boxer wanted to make an impact, she should be demanding the BATF change their form to ask if the weapon purchaser is a user (lawful or otherwise) of any controlled substance. But, then again, progressives do not seem to understand that criminals and crazies do not always purchase their guns from legal sources or tell the truth on their purchase applications.

Three, the family members called the police and they apparently interviewed the subject and dismissed any imminent threat; allegedly not conducting a long interview or checking his room where they would have found evidence of planning the crime. The police handling of this interview is still under investigation. Moreover, family members of troubled people may be extremely reluctant to snitch on problematical relatives for fear of retribution or, in the case of minors, legal consequence relating to their unlawful activities. In some cases, family members who own weapons would also see them confiscated and held for an indefinite period as typical court orders specify that the person have no access to weapons.

And four, the shooter killed seven people, including himself, and wounded thirteen others. He stabbed or bludgeoned his three roommates (police recovered a knife, a hammer, and two machetes), he shot at others leaving 3 additional dead, wounded others, and used his car to wound even more. Thus, his three guns, were not the only weapons used in the attacks.

Let us not forget that the shooter also played violent video games and put up severely disturbing public videos explaining what he was going to do and the reasons for his actions.

If Boxer wanted to do something meaningful instead of shooting off her ill-informed mouth …

  1. Modify the BATF Form to pose meaningful questions regarding psychiatric issues and drug use.
  2. Research the correlation and causality of those on psychotropic drugs (and those who suddenly go off their medications) and mass shootings.
  3. Start on real gun control by demanding that minority gang members be treated like the domestic terrorists they are and disarming the gangs.
  4. Start on real gun control by taking a hard look at minorities in the inner cities who perpetrate the majority of shootings.
  5. Realize that you do not enlarge the pool of potential victims and render them helpless by denying law-abiding citizens their Second Amendment rights to self-defense.
  6. Encourage Hollywood to stop with the violent films and video games that desensitize young people to gruesome acts of violence.
  7. Realize that gun deaths related to suicide or accidents are simply the cost of doing business in a free and open society, and that far more people are killed and injured by the misuse of other tools – especially motor vehicles, knives, power tools, etc.

Bottom line …

Barbara “Don’t call me ma’am, call me Senator” Boxer famously said "Those who survived the San Francisco earthquake said, ‘Thank God, I'm still alive.’ But, of course, those who died, their lives will never be the same again." This is the mentality of a progressive socialist democrat who believes that government is always the solution and that most problems are caused by societal issues rather than individuals who should be held to account for their actions.

It is time to remove progressive socialist democrats and their RINO (Republican In Name Only) cohorts from the House and the Senate. Both to restore some modicum of commonsense and the constitutional checks and balances envisioned by our forefathers.

America was built by individuals, not collectives; and their was a time when men were men, women were women, and the majority was not held in tyranny by a very small, but vocal, minority.
