Progressive self-serving minority activists are ready to charge racism when you speak of minority crime and blame criminal activity on collective societal issues – not personal responsibility.
Progressive democrats would rather disarm the law-abiding members of society than admit that the gun violence relates mostly to their core constituency, an essential component of their core coalition of voters. It matters little that such disarmament would result in an enlarged pool of victims unable to protect themselves from criminals and convey enormous new power to those who do not respect nor follow the law.
What New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg does not want you to know:
Based on reports filed by victims, blacks committed 66 percent of all violent crime in New York in 2009, including 80 percent of shootings and 71 percent of robberies. Blacks and Hispanics together accounted for 98 percent of reported gun assaults. And the vast majority of the victims of violent crime were also members of minority groups. <Source: New York Times>
Call it a politically inconvenient fact, but most gun violence is minority-based, much of it related to inner city gangs which strike fear into both politicians and police. Politicians, because this is their core constituency of victims that can be manipulated for blind voter support; and the police, because they know that, unlike armed law-abiding citizens, minority gangs are more likely to shoot at law enforcement officers – even randomly -- and return fire when pursued.
Bottom line …
It appears that the politicians who are covering up the true facts during their anti-gun debates, also appear not to care that the overwhelming majority of the victims are also minorities. So where are the activists and community leaders demanding stepped-up police patrols, and demanding that members of their community cooperate with the authorities? Are they too busy siphoning off funds for ineffective “educational” and “after school” programs or seeking grants to “raise the public’s awareness?”
In New York, the “stop and frisk” policy – a preemptive preventative program – is being challenged by the ACLU because it appears that the majority of those stopped and frisked are minorities. Duh! Are they outraged that 90-year old Nuns and Priests are not frisked? Are the upset because the number of those stopped and frisked are not representative of the percentages of the general population – ignoring that a disproportionate amount of crime and gun violence is committed by minorities? The very same level of upset involved in “profiling” – assuming that one segment of the population should be given greater scrutiny than another segment of the population. Something that defies logical thinking and statistical analysis.
There are racist authorities who abuse their positions of power and perform egregious acts under the color of authority. And, these authorities should be dealt with swiftly and appropriately. Something unlikely under the progressive unionized structure of the city.
But, I would posit that New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the ACLU, the community activists, and others are the real racists – because they fail to perform their duties to protect all residents from crime, and confer undeserved privileges on those minority criminals who plague their own community.
Which highlights another truism – violence in gentrified white neighborhoods is more likely to produce an overwhelming police response than similar violence in a minority neighborhood. Not because of any inherent racism, but because the police are unafraid to enter white gentrified communities and are more likely to elicit citizen cooperating within those communities.
For those activists who point to poverty levels and the lack of jobs as one of the most significant drivers of criminal activity and gangs, what happened during the great depression where economic difficulty was widespread – without a corresponding explosion of crime. The difference: personal responsibility for one’s action, not socialist collectivism excuses.
And, if you want to pose a single question to Mayor Bloomberg, who is equally concerned with guns and 20-oz. sweet sodas, ask him where are all of the billions given to democrats to manage on behalf of their constituents? What improvements have been made in minority neighborhoods? Who stole the minority taxpayer’s legacy? Truth-be-told, democrats control most impoverished cities, most inner cities, and impose the strictest gun control. So what’s wrong?
What is wrong is that the democrat socialists are corrupt and pursuing even more power, dependent on creating and maintaining larger groups of victims in order secure votes. Something to think about!
