CANADIAN PROGRESSIVES USE DISASTER TO CONFISCATE GUNS AND FORCE REGISTRATION? CAN IT HAPPEN IN THE USA? ANYONE REMEMBER KATRINA?
What the hell is happening in Canada, a nation that accepts many immigrants without a thorough screening and is thought to be a significant vector for terrorists and others wanting to enter the United States? While the Canadians do not operate under our Constitution ideals with a Second Amendment, it is still shocking to believe that the Canadian authorities would confiscate weapons from locked and secured homes during a natural disaster.
In the community hardest hit by massive floods that have kept much of southern Alberta in a state of emergency, anger among the uprooted is growing – even as the town promised it will announce a plan Friday to start allowing High River residents back home.
Large swaths of the town are still under water from the flood that hit June 20, and High River remains under a mandatory evacuation order, preventing residents from picking up possessions or evaluating the damage to their homes. On Thursday, the RCMP’s decision to seize firearms from homes outraged a number of town residents who confronted police.
“Now what they’re doing is looking for firearms and ammunition. How do they have the right to do that? What does that have to do with the disaster?” said business owner Brenda Lackey, who wants to return home because she doesn’t believe her house is affected by the flood.
Ms. Lackey recounted how residents gathered Thursday at an RCMP barricade where a spike belt had been laid. When they were told the news about the guns, she said she told the RCMP they were trampling on her rights. “This is martial law. What has happened to our country?” she said in an interview.
However, RCMP Sergeant Patricia Neely said the guns will all be returned. “Firearms that were unsafely stored in plain sight were seized for safekeeping,” she said.
Town officials also said they would lay out a detailed re-entry plan for the town’s 13,000 residents by Friday. Residents will be allowed back in stages as areas are deemed safe. Source: Anger growing in High River as residents press officials for re-entry plan - The Globe and Mail
Unsafely stored? How does that explain “forced entry?”
PMO urges RCMP to ‘focus on more important tasks’ after High River gun seizures
The Prime Minister’s Office says it expects any guns seized from homes in the evacuated town of High River will be returned to their owners as soon as possible.
“We believe the RCMP should focus on more important tasks such as protecting lives and private property,” press secretary Carl Vallée told the National Post in an email. The RCMP revealed Thursday that officers had seized a “substantial” number of firearms from homes in flood-ravaged High River, about 37 kilometres south Calgary.
“We just want to make sure that all of those things are in a spot that we control, simply because of what they are,” said Sgt. Brian Topham. “People have a significant amount of money invested in firearms … so we put them in a place that we control and that they’re safe.”
“I find that absolutely incredible” that they have the right to go into a person’s home and take their “belongings,” said resident Brenda Lackey, after learning Mounties have been securing residents’ guns. “When people find out about this there’s going to be untold hell to pay.”
“This is the reason the U.S. has the right to bear arms,” said Charles Timpano, pointing to the group of Mounties. He did confirm that officers relied on forced entry to get into numerous houses during the early stages of the flood because of an “urgent need.” Topham said the confiscated firearms had been inventoried and were secure at an RCMP detachment. He was not at liberty to say how many firearms had been confiscated. “We have seized a large quantity of firearms simply because they were left by residents in their places,” said Topham.

I am willing to bet that many of these residents may have lost the papers required to prove ownership and the guns will be confiscated or abandons. I am also willing to bet that sloppy records will also contribute to the problem of illegally confiscated private property.
Bottom line …
Canada has been a great ally of the United States, even if their immigration procedures are somewhat lax. I hate to see the progressives fundamentally alter their country and become another pawn in the march of international socialism.
This is yet another demonstration of the clear and present danger progressive democrats pose to our nation’s safety and security. Perhaps, why Obama and his fellow travelers appear to be bungling all of their domestic and foreign policies – to convey an advantage to those who do not wish American and her legal citizens well.
