WHITEWASHING THE HORROR: 'Daily News' doctored front-page photo from Boston bombing
America has become a nanny state, where the ruling elite in government and the mainstream media see their duty as protecting Americans from themselves and bad feelings. Like a group of children, we are told we need to be shielded from the horrors of accidents, the war, terrorism and other things go bump in the night.
Perhaps why cadres of psychotherapists and grief counselors are sent to schools following the death of a student. With the subliminal message that you are not strong enough to cope by yourself and you need “professional” help.
It is the same with the Boston Bombing …
"The Daily News edited that photo out of sensitivity to the victims, the families and the survivors," he said. "There were far more gory photos that the paper chose not to run, and frankly I think the rest of the media should have been as sensitive as the Daily News." Bottom line …
Americans need to see the truth, that the consequences of bad actions may be horrific. Children are allowed to watch gruesome slasher movies in graphic detail on large theatre screens … yet the American public cannot see the photos proving bin Laden was killed, nor see the terrible carnage caused by the Boston Marathon Bomber. Americans who go to war are not prepared to see the real thing in real time – perhaps contributing to the rise in post traumatic stress syndrome.
The theory that Americans might become outraged and take the law in their own hand is often secondary to the theory that an upset American is likely to look at the ineffective posturing of public officials and decide to alter their vote – and to elect candidates who provide effective solutions to real problems.
By all means, show what a night in Chicago is like in graphic detail. Enrage the innocent law-abiding citizens who are being plagued by domestic terrorists each and every day in the form of criminal gangs. It is about time that the politicians told the truth.
And for the shrinks who believe that this may desensitize the public to violence, just consider that it has already happened – courtesy of Hollywood movies and video games. Perhaps if Americans can see the real damage to fellow human beings, they would be less inclined to relish the artificial Hollywood violence being served up daily.
