Illegal immigrant tells Congress not to call him illegal -- should be called a criminal illegal alien?
Jose Antonio Vargas is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and an immigration reform activist. Well-educated, well-spoken and well-credentialed. Well, maybe not well-credentialed since all of the official documents in his possession were either stolen, forged or obtained by fraud.
He told the Senate Judiciary Committee “’When you inaccurately call me illegal, you not only dehumanize me, you’re offending them,’ he said. ‘No human being is illegal.’” Semantically-speaking, Vargas is correct. “He” is not illegal – he is an illegal immigrant. An official status that characterizes the fact that he has no legal right to be present in this country.
Classic liberal re-definition for the purposes of dissembling diffusion of meaning. Like Representative John Conyers (D-MI) telling his fellow committee members “Our citizens are not — the people in this country are not illegal. They are are out of status. They are new Americans that are immigrants.” How this lawyer can refer to an illegal alien as an “out of status American” clearly demonstrates the degree to which he is willing to violate the Constitution of the United States. Not only its sovereignty, but the provision that we all be treated equally under the law.
Above the law?
Washington state has canceled the driver's license of a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who publicly said he is an illegal immigrant. Officials opened an investigation after Jose Antonio Vargas' essay about his background was published in the New York Times Magazine in June, Department of Licensing spokeswoman Christine Anthony said Thursday. Vargas wrote in the essay that he obtained a driver's license in Washington earlier this year after his Oregon license expired. "We conducted in an investigation and concluded that he wasn't residing at the address he provided us," Anthony said. The Licensing Department sent Vargas a letter requesting proof of residency, and the letter was returned. The state canceled his license July 18. <Source>
What about the provisions that you declare all of the information submitted to the state is made under the penalty of perjury? And, what of those ”motor-voter” states which allow you to register to vote when you obtain your driver's license? Washington is one of the few states that does not require an applicant to furnish a Social Security Number and used to accept cellphone and cable bills to prove identity and residency.
According to Vargas, there is no mistaking the fact that he was engaging in criminal fraud …
One day when I was 16, I rode my bike to the nearby D.M.V. office to get my driver’s permit. Some of my friends already had their licenses, so I figured it was time. But when I handed the clerk my green card as proof of U.S. residency, she flipped it around, examining it. “This is fake,” she whispered. “Don’t come back here again.”
Lolo [his grandfather] was a proud man, and I saw the shame on his face as he told me he purchased the card, along with other fake documents, for me. “Don’t show it to other people,” he warned.
The “uncle” who brought me here turned out to be a coyote, not a relative, my grandfather later explained. Lolo scraped together enough money — I eventually learned it was $4,500, a huge sum for him — to pay him to smuggle me here under a fake name and fake passport. (I never saw the passport again after the flight and have always assumed that the coyote kept it.) After I arrived in America, Lolo obtained a new fake Filipino passport, in my real name this time, adorned with a fake student visa, in addition to the fraudulent green card.
Using the fake passport, we went to the local Social Security Administration office and applied for a Social Security number and card. It was, I remember, a quick visit. When the card came in the mail, it had my full, real name, but it also clearly stated: “Valid for work only with I.N.S. authorization.”
When I began looking for work, a short time after the D.M.V. incident, my grandfather and I took the Social Security card to Kinko’s, where he covered the “I.N.S. authorization” text with a sliver of white tape. We then made photocopies of the card. At a glance, at least, the copies would look like copies of a regular, unrestricted Social Security card. <Source>
Vargas appears to be the democrat’s dream illegal alien – not only illegal, but openly gay. Two minority groups in one photogenic and well-spoken package.
Impact on Americans …
One need only look at California where the democrat-controlled legislature has put forth rules and regulations which provide advantages to illegal aliens not available to ordinary citizens. I need to pay for car insurance as part of the privilege of driving a car on city streets and state roads. But, illegal aliens caught without a drivers license or insurance often receive a warning and little more. There are portions of Los Angeles in which I dare not travel as I am an Anglo and have no gang affiliation to protect me. In these neighborhoods, Spanish is spoken, ethnic food is consumed and they live as if they were still in a Mexican barrio. Emergency rooms are crowded with non-emergency cases and our social services have been stretched to the breaking point. A large portion of our bureaucracy now exists only to serve illegal aliens. Our quality of life is being diminished. Not to say that individuals are not polite, hardworking or nice – but that as a herd, they are as damaging as the proverbial locusts who consume everything in sight and destroy the land.
Bottom line …
What to do with Vargas as well as others is intuitively obvious. You do not give them amnesty, you give them a renewable residency document with the right to work in this country, provided the meet certain criteria.
The plan is simple.
- You give everyone 180 days to declare that they are an illegal alien, provide their residency and employee documents. After this one-time grace period, anyone illegally in this country will be deported. Upon paying an application fee and passing a criminal background check (including fingerprints, DNA, etc.) you provide a permanent residency card with the right to work in the United States.
- Since any child born of a legal resident would be a citizen of the United States if born in this country, the entire problem will resolve itself in ONE generation.
- You re-design the Social Security Number – perhaps using the schema that I have provided in other blog posts.
- You track all visitors coming into and leaving the United States. Anyone who overstays their Visa is placed on a watch list. If they are apprehended, they are jailed, the property confiscated and then deported.
- You no longer support dual citizenship as you cannot have divided loyalties to your adopted country.
You do not continue to import poverty, illiteracy, disease, crime and those who do not want to assimilate. Immigrants must become Americans first and cultural celebrants of native their culture second. I am tired of hearing Mexicans claiming that they will keep having babies in California until they gain enough political strength to vote us, legal law-abiding citizens, out of our own state.
