In the dead of the night, legislators passed a 157-page bill to prevent Americans from “falling over the fiscal cliff”–but it is business as usual, a bill filled with irrelevant goodies for special interests …

Obama's perfunctory comments about General Norman Schwarzkopf almost a dishonor!

Obama would order the flags lowered for 26 victims of a murderous crazy, but not the man that liberated a country?

I find it extremely offensive and distasteful that the President of the United States would prattle on-and-on about the 26 victims of the Connecticut School shooting – ordering our national flag to be flown at half-mast – and offer little more than a paragraph about a great American in routine passing.

The White House -- Office of the Press Secretary -- December 27, 2012

Statement from the President on the Passing of General Norman Schwarzkopf

With the passing of General Norman Schwarzkopf, we've lost an American original. From his decorated service in Vietnam to the historic liberation of Kuwait and his leadership of United States Central Command, General Schwarzkopf stood tall for the country and Army he loved. Our prayers are with the Schwarzkopf family, who tonight can know that his legacy will endure in a nation that is more secure because of his patriotic service. <Source: White House>

“Decorated service” is the best Obama can do for a man who was awarded three Silver Stars for valor, a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart and three Distinguished Service Medals. Of course, the General typifies all that President Obama is not: a man of personal honor, a man with love of country, and most importantly a military man who demonstrated a willingness to put his life at risk to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

The White House even bobbled the announcement which was originally sent as a statement by the press secretary -- and not the President of the United States. "Statement by the Press Secretary on the Passing of General Norman Schwarzkopf" So one wonders if these are the words of President Obama or some low-level employee who used boilerplate language.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie ordered New Jersey flags to be lowered as a mark of respect and honor …

NJ to Lower Flags to Honor General Norman Schwarzkopf

Governor Chris Christie has ordered flags at all state buildings to be flown at half-staff on Wednesday to honor New Jersey-born Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf. Schwarzkopf died last week at age 78 from complications from pneumonia. He was born in Trenton and raised in Lawrenceville. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, earning three Silver Stars for valor, a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart and three Distinguished Service Medals. But Schwarzkopf was best-known for commanding the U.S.-led international coalition that drove Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi forces out of Kuwait in 1991.

Schwarzkopf was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2008. His father, Col. H. Norman Schwarzkopf Sr., was founder and commander of the New Jersey State Police. <Source: NJ to Lower Flags to Honor General Norman Schwarzkopf>

Bottom line …

President Obama, there is still time to do the right thing. Order our national flag to be flown at half-mast on the day of General Schwarzkopf’s funeral. Attend the funeral and deliver a speech that serves to honor the General and to remind our nation of those in our military who are willing to voluntarily sacrifice their lives to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, keeping our freedoms intact and ensuring the safety of America and all of its citizens, no matter when they may be located.

Do the right thing for our country and for the man who liberated a nation so that they may enjoy the freedom and fruits of their labor without being molested by a malevolent dictator
