It’s about crime control, not gun control …

One again, our nation has witnessed an almost unbelievable tragedy … the death of at least 27 people, including 20 children. But as horrific as this tragedy is, it should remember that this is the work of a deranged individual who also apparently killed his parents. Blaming this on law-abiding citizens who want to preserve their God-given right to defend themselves and their families and their Second Amendment rights against governmental tyranny, should not be punished. Especially by confiscating weapons or enacting registration rules which might serve as the precursor to government confiscation of weapons.

Perhaps, one should blame the money-hungry liberals in Hollywood, Silicon Valley and Wall Street for allowing violent video games and movies because it appears that these things have a greater impact on motivating young people to commit crimes.

Perhaps, one should blame the media for compressing physical time and space to make it appear that gun-related tragedies happen so frequently as to endanger the general population on a daily basis. Your chances of dying at the hands of a drunk or drugged driver is far greater than being killed by a crazed shooter. Or by a drug- or alcohol-riddled criminal looking for an easy score. Or blaming the media for creating a “celebrity culture” where famous and infamous are the same things – promoting copy-cat killings.

Perhaps, one should blame the local authorities for not responding quickly enough to save more lives – because that’s what the government and media is saying: let government authorities handle your physical safety. Full well-knowing that the authorities cannot be everywhere they are needed, when they are needed.

Perhaps, one should blame the government for setting up “gun free” zones which turn schools, government facilities and certain public and commercial spaces into shooting galleries for armed predators or crazies.

Disarming the public to empower criminals is not a viable solution to this or any other weapon-related problem. The sad fact is that you cannot account for crazy people doing crazy things. So while this is an unforgivable tragedy, you do not punish innocent people in response to the actions of crazy people doing crazy things.

20 Children Among 27 Dead In Newtown Elementary School Massacre: Twenty children are among 27 people who were killed Friday morning after a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

Among those dead is the gunman, identified as 24-year-old Ryan Lanza, CBS News reported. He was found dead inside the building from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, sources told CBS 2. The shooting has become the second-deadliest school shooting in the nation’s history, exceeded only by the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech. A 28th victim, an adult male, was found dead at a secondary crime scene, Lance said. He would not elaborate on the details.

Lance said the shooting occurred in two different classrooms in one section of the school. One of the adult victims is Lanza’s mother who was a teacher at the school, sources told CBS 2. Some of the child victims were her students, sources said. A law enforcement source told CBS News two pistols, a Sig and a Glock, were found in the school and a Bushmaster rifle was found in a car. A preliminary trace shows that the guns belonged to Lanza. A second suspect has been taken into police custody in Hoboken, New Jersey, CBS News reported. A law enforcement official told the Associated Press the person taken into custody is Lanza’s younger brother.

Obama goes political …

An emotional President Barack Obama spoke about the massacre at the White House Friday. Fighting back tears, he said he reacted to the news not just as the president, but as a parent.

“The majority of those who died today are children. Beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10-years-old,” he said. “They had their entire lives ahead of them. Birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own.”

At times, Obama wiped away tears from the corner of his eyes, adding ”Our hearts are broken.”

“As a country, we have been through this too many times,” he said. “These children are our children and we are going to come together to take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this regardless of the politics.”

The president ordered that U.S. flags be flown at half-staff through Tuesday. Conn. Gov. Dan Malloy has also ordered all U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff.

Excuse me! Why should flags be flown at half-mast for the victims of “workplace violence” to quote the Commander-in-Chief’s characterization of the Fort Hood Massacre? Where is the honor in dying at the hands of a crazed gunman – and are these particular children any more important than those that die in a school bus accident?

The meaningful action the President wants to take is to disarm the American public – and given his Marxist background, not as a public safety measure, but as a precursor to citizen reactions to governmental tyranny. Following the dictates of the United Nations which wants to ban all non-government weapons so they can implement international socialism – leading inevitably to a move towards totalitarian dictatorships.

Bottom line …

People should not be whipsawed into restricting the self-protection rights of innocent, law-abiding people based on a political agenda of population control and disarmament. To be sure, the politicians and a complicit media will be covering this story in-depth for days. All pushing for a solution to an insolvable problem – that of controlling crazy people who do crazy things. Gun control is not the answer, crime control is the real issue.

And if the media was intellectually honest, why are they not going against violent games and movies. But, starting down that slippery slope would be to ban books – and we know how that story ended.

I urge my readers and others to use their commonsense and watch out for political and media manipulation of this tragedy – all to push a toxic political agenda. Politicians continue to assume they can control human nature by criminalizing everyday behaviors – a false assumption if there ever was one.

Time for cooler heads to prevail. Not media-seeking politicians bent on bending the American people to their will.
