Bob Costas -- Stupid Liberal using Jovan Belcher to pursue a political gun control agenda

On December 1, 2012, I wrote a blog post titled “Attention Media: Kansas City Chiefs' Jovan Belcher is a murdering douchebag!”

It appears that a Kansas City Chiefs’ linebacker, Jovan Belcher, killed his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, orphaned his 3-month old daughter, and traumatized his team’s General Manager and Head Coach when he committed suicide in their presence.

In my book, this makes him a murdering douchebag – not a troubled young man with domestic problems.

I do not want to hear interviews with everybody and his brother telling how wonderful, kind and considerate Belcher was. All of the goodness, kindness and regard was erased the minute he killed his child’s mother. If we should celebrate anything, it is that he did not kill his baby child. But he gets no reward from me for that kindness.

I don’t care if his girlfriend cheated on him, spent all of his money and was going to leave him. I don’t care if he was on prescription drugs or steroids. He was lucid enough to have a conversation with his General Manager and Head Coach – allegedly thanking him for having faith in him and helping his career.

So I do not want to hear – over and over – that Belcher was a victim of easy access to a gun. I do not want to hear that Belcher was a victim of “the system.” I do not want to hear anything about this douchebag on the news. Let him rot in hell where he belongs. Save your concern for those the douchebag left behind.

Enter Bob Costas …

Bob Costas uses Jovan Belcher tragedy to advocate for gun control

Bob Costas used his halftime segment on NBC's "Sunday Night Football" to advocate for gun control after Saturday's murder-suicide involving Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher.
Costas said: "In the coming days, Jovan Belcher's actions and their possible connection to football will be analyzed. Who knows? ..... If Jovan Belcher didn't possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today."

What a pathetically ignorant remark. One, anyone as enraged as Jovan Belcher would have grabbed any weapon – a knife, a baseball bat, a fireplace poker, anything – and killed his girlfriend. Such is the nature of a crime of passion. Or he might have just hit her with his Bentley before driving off into traffic to kill himself in a crash. All speculation except for the part that someone that angry, possibly temporarily insane, will use any weapon at their disposal to kill or maim.

What Costas said:

"You knew it was coming. In the aftermath of the nearly unfathomable events in Kansas City, that most mindless of sports clichés was heard yet again, 'Something like this really puts it all in perspective.' Well if so, that sort of perspective has a very short shelf life since we will inevitably hear about the perspective we have supposedly again regained the next time ugly reality intrudes upon our games. Please. Those who need tragedies to continually recalibrate their sense of proportion about sports, would seem to have little hope of ever truly achieving perspective.

"You want some actual perspective on this? Well a bit of it comes from the Kansas City-based writer Jason Whitlock, with whom I do not always agree but who today, said it so well that we may as well just quote or paraphrase from the end of his article. "Our current gun culture," Whitlock wrote, "ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead. Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it.

In the coming days, Jovan Belcher's actions, and its possible connection to football, will be analyzed. Who knows? But here is what I believe, If Jovan Belcher didn't possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today."

In his own ignorant NBC-style liberal agenda words …

Bob, here is what I believe. Crazy is Crazy! And crazy people will use any weapon at their disposal to do harm to themselves or other people. And to deprive the great mass of law-abiding, innocent citizens from their God-given right of self-protection using a force-multiplier (gun) against a stronger, armed, drug-crazed crazy is not only immoral – it is just another indication of your abandonment of personal responsibility.

You sit there in your broadcaster’s booth and ooh and aah over someone running 100 yards to complete a touchdown as if this is some real accomplishment in life. Never considering or caring about the man who saved his wife from a rapist because he was armed. Or the grandmother protecting herself or her granddaughter from an armed burglar.

Or, the 12- year old girl who shoots a home intruder.

Oklahoma Girl Shoots Home Intruder: 12-Year-Old Uses Family's Gun To Protect Self, Home

When one Oklahoma girl found herself in a tough spot, she took matters into her own hands. Police say the Calera 12-year-old used the family's gun to shoot and injure an alleged home invader on Wednesday, KFOR reports. "And what we understand right now, he was turning the doorknob when she fired through the door," said the Bryan County Undersheriff Ken Golden, according to News9. Police say the girl contacted her mother, who instructed her to take the weapon, hide in a closet and phone police. <Source>

Or, the 14-year old boy who shoots a home intruder.

14-Year-Old AZ Boy Shoots Home Invader

The 14-year-old was at his Laveen home near 55th and Minton Avenues at about 4:30 p.m. Friday with his three siblings ranging in age from 8 to 12 years, when a woman rang the doorbell. The teenager did not recognize the woman and did not open the door but soon after he took his siblings upstairs when he heard a loud bang on the door.

He then got a handgun which he ended up using to shoot the intruder after the latter aimed a gun at him, police said.

The teenager then called his parents and took his siblings along to a neighbor's house. Police found the intruder wounded in the doorway. He was initially reported to be in extremely critical condition but police said Saturday he should survive the injuries and could be released from a hospital in about one week. <Source

Even children who are trained to use firearms can be responsible for saving their lives and the lives of others. Not that I advocate arming children, but I do advocate NRA-approved weapons training if  there is a weapon in the house – and even if there isn’t a weapon in the house. I received such training and often went to the dump with my friends and my .22 to shoot rats. No accidents, no close-calls. The adults around us told us where to shoot, how to shoot and, more importantly, what not to shoot at. Those times are long gone, but the need for gun safety and knowledge remains.

Bottom line …

So Bob, before you use that loud microphone to urge that the Second Amendment be subverted so you can live in some mythical progressive world ruled by enlightened socialists, try to use your brain. Recognize that “crazy is crazy” and that you cannot protect against crazy by denying others the means of self-protection.

Ask yourself, where were the government authorities when this woman’s life was being threatened? Could the police arrived in time to make a difference.

If you were honest, you would note that the only thing that might have saved her is having a gun and using it the minute she saw Jovan pull a gun.

And if you want to know how mad he was – he shot her 9 times. BANG – BANG – BANG – BANG – BANG – BANG – BANG – BANG – BANG … and that is one angry man. Of course, he could have strangled her or pounded her head on the ground. And then you would have been deprived of the opportunity to push your ignorant, anti-American political agenda.

As for you Bobby – I just consider you another one of the “useful idiots” who knows not of what he speaks.
