TERRORISM: OBTAINING KEYS TO THE KINGDOM

While the story from the New York Post indicates how easy it would be to get “master keys” to the city – they go on to print a picture of the keys in enough detail that anyone with suitable talent or key blanks can reproduce those keys. In the guise of informing the public about a potential danger, they have made the problem infinitely worse by providing credible suggestions for how these keys might be used.

What could you do with this photo?

keys

Considering how easy it is to slip a locksmith a few bucks to duplicate a key stamped with “Do Not Duplicate,” citizens everywhere should not be surprised at the ease at which the city’s vulnerabilities are laid bare by low-level city employees who may have been infiltrated by terrorist elements. Even background checks, such as those given by the TSA, the ultimate arbiter of transportation security, have revealed significant holes in the system.

TSA Agents Hired Without Full Background Checks

Some workers screening travelers at one major airport may not have been fully screened themselves. Facing a backlog of background checks, the Transportation Security Administration gave airport employers the ability to hire any workers needed at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport, according to a memo obtained by WSBTV Atlanta. The "regulatory relief" affects airports across the country, WSBTV Atlanta reports. <Source>

TSA Clears Illegal Immigrants To Work At NY Airport

In the latest of many shameful lapses, the federal agency in charge of securing the nation’s transportation system approved background checks for a dozen illegal immigrants working in sensitive areas of a busy U.S. airport.

The illegal aliens, from Central America and Mexico, worked in operational areas of Stewart International Airport, a 2,400-acre facility located about 60 miles north of New York City. Stewart is a major passenger airport for the state’s mid-Hudson region that also handles large quantities of cargo and serves as a military field. <Source>

About those keys …

EXCLUSIVE: Keys available on eBay could give terrorist full access to NYC skyscrapers, subway, firehouses, construction sites and street lamps -  Key set available for $150 on eBay provides an all-access pass to NYC

Retired New Jersey locksmith Daniel Ferraris, 69, is hawking what he calls a “firemen’s key ring” — and what a terrorist might call a dream come true. The set consists of five keys that would allow control of virtually any elevator in the city, could knock out power to municipal buildings and skyscrapers, darken city streets, open subway gates and some firehouse doors and provide full access to 1 World Trade Center and other construction sites. Ferraris sold an undercover Post reporter the key-collection ring after posting his wares on eBay under the user name “thesixlever.”  Total cost: $149.95. He agreed to hand them off at his home in Union City, just minutes from the Lincoln Tunnel, saying the keys “probably still work, but don’t try to use them.” He asked no questions. Most of the keys did, in fact, work. Three of the five are standard issue for members of the FDNY, and the set had a metal dog tag that was embossed with an FDNY lieutenant’s shield number, 6896.

The keys include the all-purpose “1620,” a master firefighter key that with one turn could trap thousands of people in a skyscraper by sending all the elevators to the lobby and out of service, according to two FDNY sources. And it works for buildings across the city. That key also allows one to open locked subway entrances, gain entry to many firehouses and get into boxes at construction jobs that house additional keys to all areas of the site. The ring sold to The Post has two keys used by official city electricians that would allow access to street lamps, along with the basement circuit-breaker boxes of just about any large building. The sale of the newer of the two, a Yale 47 key, prompted concern from the city Department of Transportation.

It’s unclear how many more such keys Ferraris has for sale. But he continues to offer the FDNY elevator key, the master electrical-panel key and two traffic-signal keys on eBay. He advertises the Yale 2642 key as a “City Wide MASTER key” and claims, “I also have some items NOT permitted for listing on eBay.” <source: EXCLUSIVE: Keys available on eBay could give terrorist full access to NYC skyscrapers, subway, firehouses, construction sites and street lamps - NYPOST.com>

Bottom line …

Most security measures implemented by non-military government agencies is Kabuki Theatre – designed to give the illusion of security while not impeding the convenience of the workers who need to perform maintenance duties.

By all rational security measures, all public employee union members and contractors should undergo a security check. Something that is not likely to happen because most unions do not screen out illegal aliens and criminals as nothing should be allowed to interfere with growing their membership and collecting their money.

It is a fact of life that those with the “keys to the kingdom” always present the greatest security threats. Especially since most of the sabotage of sophisticated devices is often perpetrated by union members in a work action or those seeking additional overtime. There was a time when you might see telephone linemen with a jar of peanut butter. A little something to encourage rodents to eat through poorly protected cables.

Since airports and other controlled facilities are designated “gun free zones,” at some point in time look for a terrorists to score big before being brought down. As for the Obama administration and their willingness to allow illegal aliens into the country, security is mostly a joke.

It is time to secure our borders and our infrastructure. While no security is 100% and fail-proof, we need to realize that those on the inside – no matter how they got there – are the ones most likely to abuse security precautions and threaten the system. Like the elaborate security apparatus at a local federal building being compromised by a propped open “smoker’s door.” Easily spotted by the large overflowing standup ashtray outside the door.

LOSING OUR FREEDOM ONE DEVICE AT A TIME: APPLE-FACEBOOK INTEGRATION

I have cancelled my Facebook account as it is little more than a voluntary dossier compilation methodology that can be data-mined by both advertisers, political parties, the government, taxing authorities and those who may be targeting you for criminal activities.

Therefore, I am more than a little suspicious to see quite a number of media publications using the Facebook integrated log-on. Especially since Facebook, with their little or no customer service and totally opaque data processing, uses a unilateral, one-sided agreement that gives them control over your digital life and little or no responsibility if your data is compromised or misused in any way.

So I am naturally concerned when I see that a respected computer vendor appears to be integrating Facebook features in its operating system …

Apple Seeds Another OS X Mountain Lion Beta With Facebook Integration, New Features

Apple has seeded yet another OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 beta to registered developers. This release, which sports build number 12C50, is the fourth seed in under a month, and it indicates the software’s public release is imminent. But unlike the other three, this one includes a number of new features.

It has that much-anticipated Facebook integration built-in, like previous 10.8.2 betas, but it also boasts Power Nap support for the late-2010 MacBook Air, the ability to receive iMessages sent to your iPhone’s phone number, shared Reminders lists, Dictation support for a number of countries, and more.

Apple’s release notes detail the complete list of changes and improvements:

Facebook

  • Single sign on for Facebook
  • Facebook as an option when sharing
  • Share scores to Facebook, Twitter, Mail, or Messages
  • Facebook friends are included in Game Center friend recommendations
  • Facebook Like button for games
  • Challenge friends to beat your score or achievement

Time for privacy legislation …

While I am not a big fan of legislation crafted by political parties seeking special campaign funding from the special interests, it is time for privacy legislation which criminalized the access, release and use of non-public personal data for personal or political gain. Of course the devil is in the details and I would naturally look to organizations such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation (www.eff.org) to help create such legislation. I would love to see the end of the “unilateral” take it or leave it contract, user agreement and terms of service – so that the consumer is not disadvantaged with respect to data breeches and other acts that demand redress and cash compensation.

Bottom line …

Facebook has become the “dossier” of choice for the government in the face of legislation that prohibits certain government agencies from collecting, storing and using information collected on Americans. Facebook represents a clear and present danger to some as their pictures and the pictures of friends can be digitized and analyzed – powering face recognition systems that could be used for covert surveillance by the government or tracking by commercial entities such as advertisers.

We may live in a fairly open society, but there should be limits to that openness. Programs and platforms such as Facebook have done much to erode our conscious regard for personal privacy and the protection of our data. In the minds of many teenagers, data privacy is a “goof” – a non-issue. But something that can easily bite them in the ass when they seek employment, insurance or become suspects in a crime they did not commit.

I am sure we will see the day when the police simply mine the voice and data traffic in the proximity of a crime to compile a list of potential perpetrators and witnesses and then proceed to use their voluntary dossiers to determine potential “persons of interests.”

Enough is enough. Integration for ease-of-use may be the last chance for those who want a big-brother surveillance system to obtain our data without warrant or our specific permission. .

PUBLIC EMPLOYEE PENSION PLAN: A RAID ON CALIFORNIA TAXPAYERS?

Why the taxpayers ever let corrupt politicians pander to public employee unions is sure to be debated hotly as we now find that politicians have created their own captive and protected “political class” of privileged employees with salaries, perks and privileges beyond anything commensurate with the private sector. Where “cubicle workers” are rewarded like “first responders” in hazardous life-threatening situations.

Once again we see two machine politicians, Kevin de Leon and Darrel Steinberg, pushing their “California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Trust Act:” that has all of the integrity of the mythical Social Security “trust fund.”

Senate Bill S.B. 1234, “establishes the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Investment Board (Board), as defined, and the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Trust (Trust), a continuously appropriated fund, for the purpose of creating a statewide program known as the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program (SCRSP).

SCRSP will exist to provide a statewide retirement savings plan for private workers who do not participate in any other type of employer sponsored retirement savings plan.

Contributions by employers and employees will be voluntary.

In order for SCRSP to become operational, this bill requires that the Board conduct a market analysis to determine various factors in regard to implementing the SCRSP and to report to the Legislature on its findings; the analysis may be done only if sufficient funds to do so are made available through a non-profit or private entity, federal funding, or an annual Budget Act appropriation.

Once created, administrative costs for the SCRSP shall be paid for from earnings on investments into the trust and shall be no more than 1%, annually, of the total program fund assets.

This bill has been characterized by Frank Keegan, the editor of Statebudgetsolutions.org, as “nothing more than an attempt to raid the private sector for cash flow to cover abuse, misfeasance, malfeasance and fiscal recklessness that bankrupted the state's public pension plans.”

Keegan goes on to say …

Anyone who believes this money – estimated at $6.6 billion the first year – transfused into the public pension system will be left sequestered should check how well that promise was kept for Social Security.

In California, anyone naive enough to think it would remain uncontaminated by an inherently corrupt machine hasn't been reading the papers.

But the overriding question left unanswered on the issue of "guaranteed" retirement income is: guaranteed by whom?

Answer: taxpayers, the same people now stuck with the insurmountable debt of a retirement system in an accelerating death spiral.

The inescapable moral hazard that bankrupted state and municipal pension systems all over America must doom Secure Choice. Money from citizens and businesses goes in; it disappears, and nobody notices until the perpetrators have long fled the scene of their fiscal crimes.

State and municipal governments are more than $4.6 trillion underwater on false pension promises to public workers. In California, that is at least $500 billion and growing fast despite false reforms just signed by Gov. Jerry Brown. <Source>

On June 1st, I wrote “California wants to rob you blind -- again with state-run "private" pensions ...” noting that the legislation was being pushed through the system by a socialist union hack.

Enter California Senator Kevin de Leon, a prototypical democrat/Marxist promoting the entitlement culture …

“Senator De León has spent a lifetime fighting to empower working families and the poor—as a community organizer, English as a Second Language and U.S. Citizenship teacher, and an advocate for public schools. During his five years at the California Teachers Association, De León fought for additional funding for “high-priority schools” in low-income neighborhoods, more school construction, and health insurance for children.”

As a Senior Associate for the National Education Association (NEA) in Washington, D.C., De León advocated for more resources for schools in low-income neighborhoods. He also coordinated a team that fought schemes to take funds from public schools in the form of taxpayer-funded vouchers. At the NEA he also thwarted efforts to impose academic censorship on public school teachers.” <Source>

The program is administered by politicians, for politicians …

Who might be on this Board that will protect the working Californian from corrupt politicians?

“100002. (a) (1) There is hereby created within state government the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Investment Board, which shall consist of seven members, with the Treasurer serving as chair, as follows:

(A) The Treasurer.

(B) The Director of Finance, or his or her designee.

(C) The Controller.

(D) An individual with retirement savings and investment expertise appointed by the Senate Committee on Rules.

(E) A small business representative appointed by the Governor.

(F) A public member appointed by the Governor.

(G) An employee representative appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly.”

Out of the gate I see political corruption and influence …

It should surprise no one that all of the members are beholden to the corrupt politicians who are held in thrall by their union masters. If you doubt that they will exert control over the board and insure that there will be no independent opinions, just consider 100002. (a) (2).

(2) Members of the board appointed by the Governor, the Senate Committee on Rules, and the Speaker of the Assembly shall serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

And I will repeat my conclusions …

Bottom line …

Can you trust the corrupt California politicians who continue to allocate exorbitant funding for a failed educational system because it serves the purposes of the unions who provide the politicians with campaign funds and voter support?

Can you trust the corrupt California politicians who have continued to appoint six-figure board members (mostly failed politicians between gigs) to meaningless boards, commissions and panels in this time of fiscal peril?

These are the very same people who have spent multiple millions on “high speed rail” studies for a trillion-dollar (when all is said and done) rail system that goes nowhere of interest and is likely to be the state’s greatest boondoggle. A massive wealth distribution scheme to the unions and those special interests which control the politicians.

If these corrupt California politicians – and I mean democrats and republicans alike – cannot get their fiscal house in order and continually demand higher taxes to pay for special interest projects, they have proven they cannot be trusted with the people’s money.

One look at how the bloated and mismanaged public employee pension funds have nearly bankrupted every municipality, county and the state itself should serve as a warning to those of us remaining Californians who do not buy into the entitlement culture. One need only consider the California Public Employee Retirement System with its $85 BILLION unfunded (and growing) liability.

If the California politicos had any cojones … they would eliminate “defined benefit” pensions at once and make workers accept “defined contribution” programs such as the 401(k) programs that are available in the private sector.

I do not condone the creation of a politically-protected class of workers who is guaranteed a life-time salary with continuing raises, early retirement, fully-paid medical benefits when the rest of us in the private sector are forced to sacrifice family funds to feed these “mediocre at best” government workers.

Ladies and Gentlemen: I call bullshit! on this legislation and the attempt of a corrupt legislature to continue on the path to California’s perdition and bankruptcy.

CLAPTRAP: Libya and the White House Spin -- When you can't trust your government to tell the truth!

How convenient is it for Barack Obama to simply throw one or more of his surrogates under the bus to provide him with plausible deniability or another excuse for getting caught lying to the public. This time it appears that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence is taking the heat for the lies told by Obama and various administration officials. Something even the mainstream public could not stomach.

Intelligence office says it got Libya attack wrong, not White House [YEAH RIGHT!]

Extremists from groups linked to al Qaida struck the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, in a “deliberate and organized terrorist attack,” the top U.S. intelligence agency said Friday, as it took responsibility for the Obama administration’s initial claims that the deadly assault grew from a spontaneous protest against an anti-Islam video.

The unusual statement from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence appeared to have two goals: updating the public on the latest findings of the investigation into the assault, and shielding the White House from a political backlash over its original accounts.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which coordinates and sets policies for the 16 other U.S. intelligence agencies, is led by retired Air Force Gen. James Clapper, who was appointed by President Barack Obama in August 2010.  <Source: Intelligence office says it got Libya attack wrong, not White House | McClatchy>

Clapper has less than a sterling reputation when it comes to competence and subject matter knowledge …

The Director of National Intelligence serves as the head of the Intelligence Community (IC). It is the DNI who is responsible for overseeing and directing the implementation of the National Intelligence Program budget. The DNI acts as the principal advisor to the President, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council for intelligence matters related to US national security. America’s current DNI, James Clapper, has proven himself as incompetent.

Retired Lieutenant General James Clapper had a career in the military serving this great nation with distinction. His military service was immaculate. Unfortunately, the retired three-star has failed in his current position as the Director of National Intelligence.

On February 16th, Director Clapper released yet another intelligence gap laden threat assessment for the Senate Committee on Armed Services. In the thirty-one page threat assessment, not once does it mention the terrorist group Hezbollah or any of Iran’s asymmetric militant entities founded within the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) or Al Quds.

Clapper is the perfect fall guy to take the heat …

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper was caught off guard Monday by a question on the widely-covered arrest of 12 men in an alleged terror plot in London.

In an interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer, taped Monday afternoon, Clapper was asked about the arrests, which had happened hours before and were featured on all of the network morning news broadcasts. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and Chief Counterterrorism Advisor John Brennan, who were also participating in the joint interview, were aware of the arrests.

"First of all, London," Sawyer began. "How serious is it? Any implication that it was coming here? ... Director Clapper?" "London?" Clapper said after a pause, before Brennan entered the conversation explaining the arrests. Later in the interview, Sawyer returned to the subject. "I was a little surprised you didn't know about London," Sawyer told Clapper. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't," he replied. <Source

Clapper later blamed his lack of knowledge on “not being briefed.” When an intelligence “expert” is unaware of international events widely covered in the mainstream media – something is tragically wrong.

Bottom line …

Obama lies and someone else’s reputation dies. This is a pattern and practice in the Obama Administration when outrageous and untrue statements are shamelessly put before the public. Obama has thrown any number of people under the bus to achieve his political goals. He presents himself as being above all of the petty politics and controversy – yet is is the proximate cause of all the division and dissension in our nation with his combination of racial and communist public policies.

This man needs to be removed from office in the 2012 election cycle, as do all of his fellow travelers in the House, Senate and Administrative Agencies.

RADICALS TRYING TO DEMONIZE CITIZEN VOTER WATCHDOGS

“Voter suppression” and “voter disenfranchisement” are the two ugly words the radicals are using to deter, deflect, or destroy citizens who are tired of watching their votes stolen by crooked political parties and corrupt politicians – and their rabid supporters.

You need a photo-ID to cash a check, to purchase liquor – so it is reasonable to require it to vote. Those that claim this will disenfranchise minorities, the elderly and the infirm are blowing smoke. Minorities, as well as everyone else needs photo identification to obtain government benefits, drive a vehicle in most states, purchase an airline ticket or do any number of ordinary everyday things. For non-drivers, ID cards are issued at little or no cost. For those who cannot travel or fail to present adequate identification, completing a provisional ballot will suffice. If you are not registered to vote, are an illegal alien, a felon in some cases, no amount of identification will provide the right to vote.

As for those who claim that purging the voter roles of dead people and felons, what is the problem with that. Anyone inappropriately purged can file a provisional ballot and that ends that argument.

Here’s is what a Soros-funded investigative journalism group is saying …

A Reading Guide to True the Vote, the Controversial Voter Fraud Watchdog

As Nov. 6 approaches, the efforts of True the Vote, a Texas anti-voter fraud group recently profiled by the New York Times, are gaining national attention.

Despite scant evidence of voter fraud, the group is laser-focused on weeding it out. It has pushed for voter-ID laws, voter roll purges and other controversial voting-related measures in a host of states. (Here is our guide to the voter ID controversy, where we note that evidence on both sides of the issue is lacking.) <Source: A Reading Guide to True the Vote, the Controversial Voter Fraud Watchdog – ProPublica>

It should be noted that Pro Publica has done some wonderful reporting in the past and continues to play straight with the public despite their liberal funding base. But they do not make a point of telling you that they have received funding from Soros and other radical elements in the democrat/socialist/communist party.

Bottom line

We cannot trust the government – run by the crooked political parties and corrupt politicians – to secure the vote. They are mostly concerned with gaining an advantage over the opposition rather than correcting or improving the system.

As we have seen, Eric Holder and the Justice Department refused to prosecute the New Black Panthers for voter intimidation – even with video-based evidence. There are those in the Department of Justice that have claimed that Holder’s Justice Department will not investigate or prosecute claims by “whites,” and will ignore transgressions involving “blacks.” Considering the dishonest testimony Holder has provided to Congress and his continued stonewalling of the Fast and Furious gun-running scandal, I am inclined to believe what they say about DOJ bias.

It is up to “We the People” to insure that our elected officials truly represent us and that our representation is based on a clean election. It is hard to argue with that – although the radicals will keep trying.

Biden promotes free colonoscopies to seniors in Florida

In Florida this afternoon, Vice President Joe Biden reminded supporters that thanks to President Obama, they could now get colonoscopies without a co-pay.

During his speech, Biden reminded the audience that some of their Republican friends would distort Obama’s record on Medicare.

“Everyone knows, everyone in this room knows that President Obama has increased the benefits available to people on Medicare by the action he took,” Biden said. “You are now able to go get a wellness exam, and guys, if you conclude you need a colonoscopy because of the feeling you had or you need a breast health examination, you don’t have to pay a co-pay for that.”

ALLEN WEST COULD GIVE MITT ROMNEY A LESSON IN LEADERSHIP WITH BALLS

Perhaps Mitt Romney believes that he doesn’t have to put up a strong fight to defeat Barack Obama? But, then again, simply relying on a politically uneducated electorate to voice their overwhelming satisfaction with Barack Hussein Obama may be enough.

But I would like to see the lines drawn in the sand, bright and clear for all to see. Here is a hard-hitting campaign ad from Colonel Allen West that gives voters a chance to decide. Personally, I would like to see West, a man of demonstrated honor, courage and leadership become a candidate for president in 2016 – or, in the interim, become the Secretary of Defense. Unlike Donald Rumsfeld’s wonkish approach to the office which typified the “shout like hell” school of leadership, Colonel West is the real deal.

Here is Colonel West’s campaign ad …

Bottom line …

Colonel West gives voters a clear choice – what type of man do they want to represent them. Something that says that Colonel West is a fighter, unafraid to stand up for the traditional values which made America strong.

Lest anyone forget, it was Colonel West who fired a pistol next to an enemies head to force the disclosure of IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) and saved his men from death – or worse, living as a vegetable. Being an officer, a gentleman and a man of honor, he self-reported his actions to his chain of command and was sanctioned for the act. Asked if he would do it again, rather than mealy-mouthing an answer, he said he would do anything to protect his men and save lives. This is the guy we need to clean up the cesspool in Washington.

[X] YES ON CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 32 (2012) -- SCARING THE BEJESUS OUT OF THE UNIONS AND SPECIAL INTERESTS

California is ruled by the public employee unions and special interests (lobbyists) who have corrupted the political process to the point where they elect their own politicians to rape the taxpayer. Pushing the taxpayer out of the bargaining process and leaving only corrupt politicians owned by the unions to bargain with the unions. The result has been the near bankruptcy of the State of California and union contracts which are so outrageously manipulated as to present a clear and present danger to the State’s continued fiscal existence.

If you believe that the corruption between politicians and the special interests should stop now, vote for Proposition 32.

POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS BY PAYROLL DEDUCTION. CONTRIBUTIONS TO
CANDIDATES. INITIATIVE STATUTE. Restricts unions from using payroll-deducted funds for political purposes. Applies same use restrictions to payroll deductions, if any, by corporations or government contractors. Restricts union and corporate contributions to candidates and their committees. Limits government contractor contributions to elected officers or their committees. Fiscal Impact: Increased costs to state and local government, potentially exceeding $1 million annually, to implement and enforce the measure's requirements.

Even the ballot statement is dishonest because it only claims increased government costs exceeding 1 million annually, without mentioning that this proposition has the ability to save the State of California BILLIONS in future unearned pension funds and special interests expenditures – such as the $1 TRILLION dollar train to nowhere which is a perpetual union work project.

Do not believes the lies, distortions, half-truths – and the omni-present pictures of first-responders (fireman, policemen), teachers and nurses and their phony coalitions which exist only in a lawyer or lobbyists office. You no longer trust the politicians or the unions to tell you the truth.

It is time to stop the looting of California and forcing productive companies and people to leave the State … thus increasing the ever-growing tax burden on the remaining taxpayers.

Here is the summary of the proposition …

PROPOSITION 32 -- POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS BY PAYROLL DEDUCTION. CONTRIBUTIONS TO CANDIDATES. INITIATIVE STATUTE.

  • Prohibits unions from using payroll-deducted funds for political purposes. Applies same use prohibition to payroll deductions, if any, by corporations or government contractors.
  • Permits voluntary employee contributions to employer-sponsored committee or union if authorized yearly, in writing.
  • Prohibits unions and corporations from contributing directly or indirectly to candidates and candidate controlled committees.
  • Other political expenditures remain unrestricted, including corporate expenditures from available resources not limited by payroll deduction prohibition.
  • Prohibits government contractor contributions to elected officers or officer-controlled committees.

ANALYSIS BY THE LEGISLATIVE ANALYST

Political Contributions. The term political “contribution” generally includes giving money, goods, or services (1) directly to a candidate, (2) at the request of a candidate, or (3) to a committee that uses these resources to support or oppose a candidate or ballot measure. Current law limits the amount of political contributions that individuals, groups, and businesses may give to a state candidate (or to committees that give money to a state candidate). In 2012, for example, an individual, group, or business could contribute up to $26,000 to a candidate for Governor and up to $3,900 to a candidate for a legislative office. In addition, current law requires political contributions to be disclosed to state or local election officials.

Independent Expenditures. Money spent to communicate support or opposition of a candidate or ballot measure generally is considered an independent expenditure if the funds are spent in a way that is not coordinated with (1) a candidate or (2) a committee established to support or oppose a candidate or a ballot measure. For example, developing a television commercial urging voters to “vote for” a candidate is an independent expenditure if the commercial is made without coordination with the candidate’s campaign. Current law does not limit the amount of money individuals, groups, and businesses may spend on independent expenditures. These expenditures, however, must be disclosed to election officials.

Other Political Spending. Some political spending is not considered a political contribution or an independent expenditure. This broad category includes “member communications”— spending by an organization to communicate political endorsements to its members, employees, or shareholders. This spending is not limited by state law and need not be disclosed to election officials. Payroll Deductions. Under limited circumstances, employers may withhold money from an employee’s paycheck. The withheld funds are called “payroll deductions.” Some common payroll deductions include deductions for Social Security, income taxes, medical plans, and voluntary charitable contributions.

Union Dues and Fees. Approximately 2.5 million workers in California are represented by a labor union. Unions represent employees in the collective bargaining process, by which they negotiate terms and conditions of employment with employers. Generally, unions pay for their activities with money raised from (1) dues charged to union members and (2) fair share fees paid by non-union members who the union represents in the collective bargaining process. In many cases, employers automatically deduct these dues and fees from their employees’ paychecks and transfer the money to the unions.

Payroll Deductions Used to Finance Political Spending. Many unions use some of the funds that they receive from payroll deductions to support activities not directly related to the collective bargaining process. These expenditures may include political contributions and independent expenditures—as well as spending to communicate political views to union members. Non-union members may opt out from having their fair share fees used to pay for this political spending and other spending not related to collective bargaining. Other than unions, relatively few organizations currently use payroll deductions to finance political spending in California.

PROPOSAL

The measure changes state campaign finance laws to restrict state and local campaign spending by:

  • Public and private sector labor unions.
  • Corporations.
  • Government contractors.

These restrictions do not affect campaign spending for federal offices such as the President of the United States and members of Congress.

Bans Use of Payroll Deductions to Finance Spending for Political Purposes. The measure prohibits unions, corporations, government contractors, and state and local government
employers from spending money deducted from an employee’s paycheck for “political purposes.” Under the measure, this term would include political contributions, independent expenditures, member communications related to campaigns, and other expenditures to influence voters. This measure would not affect unions’ existing authority to use payroll deductions to pay for other activities, including collective bargaining and political spending in federal campaigns.

Prohibits Political Contributions by Corporations and Unions. The measure prohibits corporations and unions from making political contributions to candidates. That is, they could not make contributions (1) directly to candidates or (2) to committees that then make contributions to candidates. This prohibition, however, does not affect a corporation or union’s ability to spend
money on independent expenditures.

Limits Authority of Government Contractors to Contribute to Elected Officials. The measure prohibits government contractors (including public sector labor unions with collective bargaining
contracts) from making contributions to elected officials who play a role in awarding their contracts. Specifically, government contractors could not make contributions to these elected officials from the time their contract is being considered until the date their contract expires.

Bottom line …

STOP THE POLITICAL/UNION CORRUPTION NOW BEFORE IT BANKRUPTS THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA!

There is nothing more to be said. Either you support corruption and deserve the consequences or you fight corruption and attempt to save the State of California.

ANTI-ISLAM FILMMAKER ARRESTED IN LOS ANGELES – NO THANKS TO OBAMA!

There will be many who try to spin this as a First Amendment issue of freedom of speech and freedom of religion. AND THEY WILL BE WRONG. From all published reports, the filmmaker was a criminal scum-bucket who engaged in financial fraud, namely identity manipulation and check-kiting. He was sentenced to jail – and was on probation at the time the film was apparently made. His probation agreement included the use of aliases and the Internet; both of which appear to have been violated.

The perpetrator will have his day in court, to face his accusers and to be treated appropriately. However, considering the number of Muslim criminals in prison – a prime recruiting ground – there will be concerns for his life if he returns to the prison “general population.”

So before anyone starts shouting about constitutional issues – take a breath and watch the criminal portion of his hearing play out.

As for Barack Obama, who has falsely characterized the trailer for the controversial firm as the proximate cause of the Libya attack on the American Consular offices – ignoring the anniversary of 9/11, the absence of protestors, the presence of heavy weaponry (mortars, RPGs, etc.), the sustained multi-prong, multi-hour attack and the failure of the American authorities to protect the office – he should not be allowed to take a victory lap in the Muslim world.

Obama lied to the American public – perhaps committing some of the same identity fraud and document forgery as the filmmaker. Let us finally see the actual copy of his birth certificate and not the questioned document which has been placed on the White House web page. Let us hear why Obama’s Social Security Number is linked to a long-dead Connecticut man? Let us see his American and Indonesian passport to see how he managed to travel to Pakistan in spite of a travel restriction on Americans? Let us see if his father was Frank Davis Marshall as suspected? Let us see his school records to see if he was a foreign student, received foreign aid or benefited from affirmative action. Here is a man who hides more than he reveals, has dubious associations and cannot be trusted to govern this nation.

Feds Arrest Producer Of Controversial Anti-Islam Film On Probation Violation Charge

The producer of the controversial anti-Islam film “Innocence of Muslims” has been arrested for violating terms of his probation and is set for an appearance this afternoon in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, is scheduled for an initial appearance before Judge Christina Snyder, who sentenced him in June 2010 following a bank fraud conviction. Investigators have not yet provided details about how Nakoula allegedly violated probation, but it seems clear that his involvement in the “Innocence of Muslim” production is central to the government's new charge. Nakoula (seen above) was sentenced to 21 months in prison to be followed by six months in a halfway house. Upon completion of the custodial term, he was placed on probation for five years.

Included in his probation terms were prohibitions on his use of the Internet, unless he secured prior approval from his probation officer. Additionally, he was not to “use, for any purpose or in any manner, any name other than his/her true legal name or names without the prior written approval of the Probation Officer.” While producing “Innocence of Muslims,” Nakoula repeatedly used the alias “Sam Bacile” (and other variants) in communications, online postings, and dealings with cast and crew working on the film. <Source: Feds Arrest Producer Of Controversial Anti-Islam Film On Probation Violation Charge | The Smoking Gun >
