I have been thinking about America and how Barack Obama and his fellow travelers sold the country on “Hope and Change” as the antidote to an out-of-control federal government and years of crony capitalism and laissez-faire regulatory actions which precipitated the present financial crisis.

A crisis made unbearably worse by the ineptitude, corruption, ideology and cronyism of Barack Obama and his ideologically-driven cadre that appears to be driving the United States toward the European Social Democracy model of shared power between government, unions and select oligarchs who own various politicians and political institutions.

So in reviewing the candidates, I have come to the conclusion that America’s best opportunity for real hope and change lies not with the democrat party nor the traditional GOP candidates like Mitt Romney, Rick Perry or fringe candidates like Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Michelle Bachmann, Gary Johnson, Rick Santorum and Jon Huntsman.  It lies with Herman Cain.

My reasoning is simple. Unlike those who will simply perpetuate party politics and tinker around the edges of financial and social problems, we need a reformer. Someone who has the ability to read a financial statement, a man of moral courage and conviction and most importantly, someone who will not talk down to the electorate as if we were children in need of parental guidance.

Mitt Romney is a creature of the old political system as is Rick Perry. Only Herman Cain stands out as being beyond the traditional political system – the best hope for bringing about the necessary change to government. A man who understands life and death decisions having managed and survived Stage-4 cancer and someone who operates from a position of knowledge and certitude.

While Mitt Romney looks “presidential,” I believe it is simply a façade. Another “Bobby Blow-Dry” with a commanding manner and little or nothing of “executive” excellence behind him. He continues to tell us that he will run America like a business; something that is both stupid and wrong. Businesses are run top-down with a chief executive officer being able to dictate the course of the business. Unlike business, the President must contend with a contentious Congress – which mostly acts in their political party’s best interests, or at worst in their rather corrupt own individual self-interests. He must contend with powerful forces outside of the government who can delay or diminish the decisions of the politicians by simply filing a lawsuit and mounting a media campaign to capture the power of the public. ObamaCare, modeled after RomneyCare, is enough to demonstrate his progressive stripe and removes him from further consideration.

Rick Perry, I fear, is just another Texas “good ole boy” like George Bush. Someone whose record in Texas denotes “bidness as usual.” His stance on immigration is intolerable and I believe that he thinks of Mexico as a partner in government/business enterprises. Overlooking the fact that they are a socialist threat to America, seemingly ruled by an unelected criminal oligarchy. A nation with extremely tough immigration policies – but which is willing to export their sick, impoverished, illiterate or criminal population to America rather than engaging in domestic political reform and dealing with their own problem. It is not that they lack the exploitable natural resources to develop such initiatives; but that such resources are often controlled by the oligarchs or criminal element. His previous position on Social Security as a state-run program is flawed and removes him from further consideration.

As for the rest of the gang, some are smart, some are conservative and some are simply democrats in disguise. Not even worth a second glance except for their value as advisors, not principles, in the upcoming governance morality play.

Therefore, I am left with the inescapable conclusion –forced to pick among the declared candidates at this point in time – that Herman Cain is our best choice for bringing about the Hope and Change that was but an empty Obama promise.

While I believe almost anyone could have done a better job than Barack Obama – a man who cost this country years of unnecessary  angst over a birth certificate that could have been displayed when the question arose; a man of relatively unknown and suspicious history – I am unwilling to settle for another “same old, same old” candidate.

As for the mainstream media assisting the nation by vetting our candidates and speaking truth to power, those days are long gone. In its place is a form of corporate-directed news where a political position is actually a corporate business model: just ask General Electric, NBC, MSNBC and similar companies who poured millions upon millions into the political process and were rewarded with billions of dollars in return.

I think Herman Cain is ideally suited. Look at his background.

Cain was born in Memphis, Tennessee, son of Luther Cain, Jr. and his wife Lenora Davis. His mother was a cleaning woman and his father was a chauffeur. He grew up in Georgia.
Cain graduated from Morehouse College in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics, and received a Master of Science degree in computer science from Purdue University in 1971, when he was also working full-time in ballistics for the U.S. Department of the Navy.

He is the author of four books: Leadership is Common Sense (1997), Speak as a Leader (1999), CEO of SELF (October 2001), and They Think You're Stupid (May 2005). He also wrote "The Intangibles of Implementation" in the technical journal Interfaces (Vol. 9, No. 5, 1979, pp. 144-147), published by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).

After completing his master's degree from Purdue, Cain left the Department of the Navy and began working for The Coca-Cola Company as a business analyst. In 1977, he joined Pillsbury, where he rose to the position of Vice President by the early 1980s. He left his executive post to work for Burger King, then a Pillsbury subsidiary at the time, where he managed 400 stores in the Philadelphia area. Under Cain's leadership, his region went in three years from the least profitable for Burger King to the most profitable . This prompted Pillsbury to appoint him President and CEO of another subsidiary, Godfather's Pizza. Aiming to cut costs, Cain over a 14-month period reduced the company from 911 stores down to 420. As a result of his efforts, Godfather's Pizza finally became profitable. <Source>

I am sure that there is something in Herman Cain’s past with which I will disagree. But with Cain, I can imagine standing up to him and arguing my point – honestly, respectfully and receiving the same honest and respect in return. With Romney and Perry, I can imagined being shouted down or simply dismissed. In short, Herman Cain is a man of the people – one of us – and not one of those political wind-up dolls with the pre-written, spin-tested platitudes that serve as advice and direction in difficult times.

Many say that Herman Cain does not have a clue to handling foreign policy. Well neither did Barack Obama. But what Cain will bring to the table is his analytical ability and people skills – and unlike Obama, Cain does not appear to be an ego-driven arrogant narcissist where everything is about him to the exclusion of all Americans. I believe he is a man who can select and appreciate advisors.

I also believe that Cain is a man of honor and respect and his tough fairness will be perceived by our allies and enemies in exactly the same way: he says what he means and means what he says – action to follow.

I know that we must defeat Obama and his fellow travelers – including those in the House and Senate in 2012 or suffer the consequences of the continuing slide towards socialism.

Global Warming: Where is the common sense? (Updated)

I was asked to clarify the role of Carbon Dioxide in the process of global climate change.

It appears, uncontrovertably, that the overwhelming majority of energy focused on the Earth comes from the Sun.

Carbon Dioxide, to a minor extent, blocks and absorbs some of this energy, which it then re-emited.

The re-emission is an extremely minor component of the process and serves to delay the cooling of the atmosphere as Carbon Dioxide, in and of itself, does not ADD heat to the process.

I remain surprised that many climate-related researchers will accept payment for their research and defend their limited methodology and apparent findings in papers -- but refuse to be debated by other knowledable scientists in public. As for Al Gore, he controls his media carefully and almost never responds to legitimate inquiry by people like Christopher Lord Monckton of Brenchley who makes a mockery out of his arguments.

It should remembers that virtually none of the  current climate models approximate what we are seeing today and appear to be deeply flawed.  -- steve

Original Post ...

As I walked on my lawn, dampened with evening dew,  smelling the night-blooming Jasmine and looking at the stars, I couldn’t help but think of global warming and if there was a simple way to make this extremely complex, chaotic system understandable to those who will eventually vote for those who are perverting the science to push their own political agenda and public policies.

Starting with the basics …

Without our atmosphere, the Earth would behave like our moon, hot in the day where the Sun’s rays warmed the surface and cold at night where the heat would simply radiate back to space.

But we don’t live in such a simple world; but a world in which the oceans which comprise approximately 73% of the surface of the Earth and the land areas absorb heat and radiate it back to space at different rates.

So we encounter our first essential truth: no matter how much heat is absorbed or re-radiated; the temperature can never be greater than the peak temperature produced by the primary source of the heat – namely, the Sun.

From scientific studies – observations, measurements and a theoretical understanding – the greatest greenhouse gas appears to be water vapor. And we encounter another essential truth: the cloak of water vapor slows down the re-radiation of heat, thus prolonging the time that it takes for the surface to cool down. Pretty much why moist “topical” areas that receive more of the Sun’s energy and have a greater amount of moisture stay warmer (and more uncomfortable) longer. Again, referring to our first essential truth, the temperature can never be greater than the peak temperature produced by the primary source of the heat, the Sun. The same thing happens in extremely dry areas which get less heat due to the angle of the Sun, so the polar regions are also colder. The higher the altitude, the less heat that is retained and the colder it becomes relative to the surface.

Now, let us consider the possibility that some greenhouse gas, Carbon Dioxide, absorbs heat and then is capable of re-radiating this energy. So again, let’s consider our first essential truth: no matter how much energy is re-radiated by Carbon Dioxide, the temperature can never be greater than the original peak temperature. IF, somehow, reflected heat could be additive, then you would have the equivalent of a perpetual motion machine – heat being reflected between two sources and constantly reinforcing and amplifying the energy so that no additional energy would be required and you would have the perfect power source that would continue indefinitely with little or no additional energy input required.

So why is the Earth warming?

Observation, measurement, theoretical examination – as well as commonsense – would tell you that when the Earth emerges from the Little Ice Age, some degree of warming would be expected and would not be unusual or alarming.

What are the drivers of global warming?

The hypothesis that man is driving a portion of climate change is theoretically true. But the real issue is how much when compared with the other drivers of global climate.

For the record, the main drivers of global climate change are: the Sun’s energy output; the Earth’s position relative to the Sun; the Earth’s rotational dynamics; the Earth’s volcanic activity; the action of deep ocean currents and, as we have seen, the greatest of the greenhouse gas – water vapor. And now we are seeing suggestions that cosmic rays aid in the formation of clouds that interact in our ecosphere. All gross drivers of global climate and well beyond man’s ability to influence.

Assuming Carbon Dioxide did play a major part in global climate change, it would be ONLY to delay the re-radiation of heat into the atmosphere, prolonging the effects of higher local temperatures, but not to increase, one iota, the global temperature.

So what the hell are we actually measuring?

There is observational evidence that we are measuring the natural warming of the Earth as we emerge from the Little Ice Age and the degree of increasing urbanization where temperature stations located in formerly undeveloped areas are being overrun with urban activity; thus making a mockery of the consistency and reliability of historic temperature measurements. And as for those climate proxies which allow us to “estimate” temperatures before modern instrumentation, these measurements are imprecise, prone to error and depend on the locality. Considering that these “proxy”observations are far and few between, it is unlikely that we can extrapolate these finding into definitive public policies.

Carbon Dioxide as the cause of global warming …

Believe it or not there is a simple explanation for observations which purport to claim that carbon dioxide is one of the proximate causes of global warming. Let’s go beyond the physical science of molecular re-radiation for a moment and consider the following:

One, it appears that the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide lags the rise in global temperatures by 600 – 1000 years, so carbon dioxide cannot be a causal agent.

Two, it appears that there is a scientific explanation for the observation. Since the amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide and the amount of carbon dioxide dissolved in the oceans is somewhat constant; using Henry’s Law one can expect that rising ocean temperatures would cause dissolved carbon dioxide to outgas and enter the atmosphere – increasing the amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Opening a cold beer on a warm day illustrates the same effect as carbon dioxide is outgassed from the cold beer and enters the atmosphere.

And three, it appears that the reason that the political policy makers chose carbon dioxide is that it would give them control over the creation, storage, transmission and  usage of carbon-based energy. And thus allow control over a nation’s energy policy and economy – and to provide a rationale for wealth redistribution using the bogus process of carbon credit trading.

The big lie of carbon credit trading …

Carbon credit trading is nothing more than a hoax perpetrated on the American public. It seeks to enrich those, primarily the Wall Street Wizards, who create or produce nothing but paper. It also allows gross polluters to continue polluting their immediate environment by purchasing government-approved carbon credits on the theory that mitigation efforts applied in one area can actually affect the global climate. Ridiculous beyond belief. And, these credits facilitate socialist wealth redistribution as third-world nations must do little more than throw some seeds into the ground to create very valuable carbon credits.

Think of planting trees to neutralize the effects of carbon dioxide from a jet plane trip. First, the actual pollution would disperse quickly and present no local threat. The totality of such emissions would have an unmeasurable effect on the composition of the atmosphere and the trees that were planted would need to be numerous and exist for years before an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide would be absorbed. While there are benefits: increased amounts of carbon dioxide are beneficial to plant life and to the generation of local oxygen – they do little or nothing for mitigating global temperature fluctuations.

Those pesky decimal points …

We must remember that scientists and others are reporting on a phenomenon using numbers that are reported to a tenth of a degree – lending a false sense of accuracy and preciseness. In fact, the values are simply an artifact of the computation process.

Rising above the noise …

A case could be made that the background of normal temperature fluctuations makes the measurement of man’s contribution to the phenomenon of global warming cannot even be measured with any degree of certainty or accuracy. Remember we are speaking of a temperature band of approximately three degrees Centigrade; an inconsequential value when the case can be made that warmer global temperatures and an increased amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide can be beneficial to man.

Silicon silliness …

It should also be remembers that all of these global warming hypotheses exist only in the silicon memories of computers – computer programs which are incomplete, can use flawed assumptions and highly manipulated data. Computer models which, in a number of cases, does not reflect the reality today’s temperature observations. Computer model output which is aggregated for presentation as a driver of public policy.

Why would the scientists agree to back problematical science?

Pursuing the hypothesis of global warming demand a multi-disciplinary approach that combines, physics, chemistry, mathematics, geology and biology. Most scientists do not comment and remain silent --  fearing to venture out of their own disciplines and areas of expertise; and some fearing the consequences of bucking a political situation.

In a world where money, power, prestige and ego often trumps science – the billions of dollars provided by governments and foundations influence prestigious institutions, the scientists and the projects that are funded. One subtle level of influence is that scientists and institutions are more likely to propose projects which are likely to be funded and attract attention in the science journals than they are to sponsor projects which contravene prevailing wisdom.

Complicit in the silencing of scientific dissent, we find a powerful group of climate scientists with much to lose should their findings, conclusions and activists support be openly and credibly challenged. We saw this level of collusion in the leaked e-mails of ClimateGate; which also revealed attempts to subvert the peer review process. Also complicit in the suppression of an honest discussion is the mainstream media which appears to be invested in the political policies that are being proposed as solutions to global warming.

Bottom line …

It appears that science is being subverted by those who are pursing public policies which are not supported by science.

I ask you – are you willing to pay more tax, higher prices for goods and services, have more of your income diverted to pampered unionized government employees who are guaranteed lifetime employment and are immune from the financial consequences of economic downturns; and worst of all, cede a portion of your personal freedoms to achieve some theoretical and unmeasurable improvement in global temperature.

A mockery of science and public policy because our global temperature appears to be in decline for the past ten years –- well within the natural climate fluctuations as climate continues to regress towards some unknown mean.

I’m not. So let’s start to kill this internationally-inspired hoax by electing honest brokers to serve “We the People” in 2012.

Obama: Non-workers of the world unite!

When it comes to incomprehensible stupidity, few can beat Obama and his socialist fellow travelers.

Creating a “protected class” out of unemployed individuals as if they needed “civil rights” protection from exploitative capitalists is nothing more than another shameless campaign ploy to solicit voter support – possibility with the promise of extended unemployment benefits and “free money” from lawsuits against potential employers.

As reported by the New York Times …

“Obama Proposes Protecting Unemployed Against Hiring Bias”

Mr. Obama’s jobs bill would prohibit employers from discriminating against job applicants because they are unemployed.”

“Under the proposal, it would be ‘an unlawful employment practice’ if a business with 15 or more employees refused to hire a person ‘because of the individual’s status as unemployed.’”

“Unsuccessful job applicants could sue and recover damages for violations, just as when an employer discriminates on the basis of a person’s race, color, religion, sex or national origin.”

White House officials see discrimination against the unemployed as a serious problem. In a radio interview last month, Mr. Obama said such discrimination made ‘absolutely no sense,’ especially at a time when many people, through no fault of their own, had been laid off.”

Compounding the stupidity …

The system is awash with cash and liquidity. However, one proximate cause for the prolongation of the current  recession is that there remains a massive uncertainty associated with a future under Obama’s progressive and socialist initiatives. Who knows what taxes will be? If investment deductions will be eliminated? If healthcare and payroll taxes will increase dramatically? If employees increase beyond the magic numbers of “15” or “50” where additional restraints, terms and conditions apply.

We are being buried in a morass of laws, rules, regulations and guidelines which have yet to be formulated – much of the power being ceded to the Cabinet-level Secretaries of Executive Branch agencies who themselves are ideologues, haters of the free market and incompetent hacks.

It is bad enough that Obama backs the unions where seniority is rewarded over merit and mediocrity rules over innovation, but to throw further regulations in the hiring process is intolerable. Anti-American and anti-business.

Imagine the expense and consequences if a lesser-qualified  candidate is denied a position and they file a complaint. Only the lawyers win.

Perhaps Obama should concentrate less on central planning and top-down socialist policies and more on the free-market capitalism that makes our country an exceptional nation.

Perhaps the President needs an attitude adjustment – stop the socialist power grab by creating and managing scarcity and concentrate on expanding business and growing our way out of our present difficulties.

Obama and his fellow travelers in Congress must be defeated in 2012 before we reach an apocalyptic turning point and become as dysfunctional as European socialist democracies.

Obamacare: How do you feel about a national identity card and giving the federal government access to your employment, financial and health records?

Are you prepared to have your medical records turned over to the federal government by private health insurers?

To be accessed by local, state and federal entities to administer existing laws – and exposing your personal data to unionized government workers and hyper-partisan or curious healthcare workers without procedural safeguards and still legal penalties for planned or accidental release of an individual’s medical data?

It is not so much that I care that my medical records are used to provide me with superior medical care, but that the same records can be used for denying or pricing other insurance products or influence employment decisions. Or for blackmailing or coercing individuals who have something that they do not want make public. And perhaps being used by hyper-partisans or union-members to influence political actions.

The legislators were derelict in their duty …

If you remember, the 2000+ page outline of what was to become ObamaCare was released to legislators at the last minute and there was no physical way that legislators could read and understand the legislation they were voting on.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi actually stood before the cameras and declared

But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it."

Thus a strong prima facie case can be made for dereliction of duty or malfeasance while in office.

Nobody knew the totality of the medical, financial and political implications of the bill when it was signed …

In reality, the bill, written in dense and incomprehensible bureaucratic legalese, mandated that the Secretary of Health and Human Services had the duty to implement the new legislation; creating boards, commissions, rules, regulations and guidelines.

Of course, we have come to learn that the legislation may actually be unconstitutional because it mandates that all citizens must purchase a product from a non-governmental (private) corporation or face penalties. The compliance portion of the law being policed by the Internal Revenue Service.

National Identity Card and Medical Records Database …

In addition, the legislation requires the creation of a national identification card to receive healthcare and a database which will contain details regarding the eligibility, medical, behavioral and financial  affairs of all citizens – and probably non-citizen illegal aliens.

From a Request for Comments by September 28, 2011 as published in the Federal Register …

SUMMARY: This proposed rule would implement standards for States related to reinsurance and risk adjustment, and for health insurance issuers related to reinsurance, risk corridors, and risk adjustment consistent with title I of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as amended by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, referred to collectively as the Affordable Care Act.

These programs will mitigate the impact of potential adverse selection and stabilize premiums in the
individual and small group markets as insurance reforms and the Affordable Insurance Exchanges
(‘‘Exchanges’’) are implemented, starting in 2014.

The transitional State-based reinsurance program serves to reduce the uncertainty of insurance risk in the individual market by making payments for high-cost cases. The temporary Federally-administered risk corridor program serves to protect against
uncertainty in the Exchange by limiting the extent of issuer losses (and gains).

On an ongoing basis, the State-based risk adjustment program is intended to provide adequate payments to health insurance issuers that attract high-risk
populations (such as individuals with chronic conditions). <Source>

To see the process of creating this database, let us review how the database will be populated …

5. Data Collection Under Risk Adjustment (§ 153.340)

As described above, a robust risk adjustment process requires data to support the determination of an individual’s risk score and the corresponding plan and State averages.

In paragraph (a) we propose that a State or HHS on behalf of the State, is responsible for collecting the data for use in determining individual risk scores.

HHS considered three possibilities for data collection:

(1) A centralized approach in which issuers submit raw claims data sets to HHS;

(2) an intermediate State-level approach in which issuers submit raw claims data sets to the State government, or the entity responsible for administering the risk adjustment process at the State
level; and

(3) a distributed approach in which each issuer must reformat its own data to map correctly to the risk
assessment database and then pass on self-determined individual risk scores and plan averages to the entity responsible for assessing risk adjustment charges and payments
.  <Source

This approach is analogous to telling a child that they can choose to go to bed NOW or WAIT five minutes. In either case, the child goes to bed within the parent’s chosen time period.

Likewise, no matter which option is chosen, your medical records will be forwarded to the federal government where they will be analyzed and used to determine “cost effective best practices.” The results of this research will be used to insert a bureaucrat between the doctor and their patient which would tell the doctor that your care was to be denied or delayed … or in worst case, counseled on “end of life” choices.

Cost Effective Best Practices don’t always work …

The human body is a complex of individual and overlapping systems and what works for one person many not work for another. I illustrated this statistical fact of life with a chart in a previous blog entry.

Capture12-9-2010-5.46.55 PM

Are you willing to take the chance that your treatment is one of the uncovered outliers that is either too expensive or not effective for the majority cases. Thus curtailing your doctor’s ability to use “experimental” cures or treatments not specifically approved by the Federal Drug Administration or the bureaucrats? Like the breast cancer drug which has been effective for some women, but not all women.

An inherent conflict of interest?

How can you trust any government entity when they have been incentivized to cut back on entitlement costs, especially to relatively non-productive (in a labor sense) senior citizens nearing the end of their lives? Where cutting back on medical treatment also has a beneficial effect on further Medicare and social security costs?

Privacy, Yeah Right?

How many people remember when a contractor to Health and Human Services lost a laptop containing medical information relating to 50,000 Medicare beneficiaries. Or the government employee whose laptop was stolen from his home – and contained information on 26,500 veterans, spouses and dependents.

For more bad news directly from the source, you can see data breaches involving hundreds of thousands of people at the Health and Human Services website: Breaches Affecting 500 or More Individuals

Competition Killer …

There is little or no doubt in my mind that the government wanted to implement a “one payor” solution where the government was actually your healthcare provider and the actual administration was outsourced to insurance companies and “approved” physicians and facilities.

Since the pricing and proprietary operations of private insurance companies would be exposed to competitors, competition is likely to be stifled rather than encouraged.

A question of power  …

By ceding their lawmaking responsibilities and spelling out how things should work, Congress has, once again, empowered the executive branch to usurp its authority. In essence allowing the Administration to create additional power without constitutional authority.

Bottom line …

The worst part of ObamaCare is the ineptitude of the government. Simply put, they cannot how they are going to add millions of new patients to the system without a corresponding increase in physicians, facilities, diagnostic devices, durable medical equipment and other critical infrastructure; especially in view of reducing reimbursements for physicians, facilities and supplies.

This is another example of the institutional violation of patient-doctor confidentiality and an unwarranted intrusion into the personal affairs of all Americans.

There is no action that cannot be justified on the grounds of healthcare, from gun control which subverts the Second Amendment, to the violation of the Tenth Amendment by coercing states into performing activities which would be unconstitutional at the federal level simply by withholding taxpayer funds.

We need to elect honest brokers to serve “We the People.” We need to throw out the bums and miscreants who are in the process of destroying what is the world’s best healthcare system to amass political power and control over individuals at their most vulnerable moment – when they are sick or dying. It is bad enough that the state grabs the fruits of your hard labor and prevents it being passed down to your heirs – now they want to hasten the death in death taxes.

Most people confuse the difference between bookkeeping, which is a precise tally of monies paid and received, with accounting which is an more of an art than a science; a list of acceptable procedures based on rules, disclosures and interpretations.

In August, I posed a blog piece titled “ACSOI: IS THIS THE WARNING SIGN THAT WALL STREET WIZARDS ARE PLAYING YOU?” which pointed out a perfectly legal financial gambit that made  a company’s prospects look better to the investing public than they actually were.

Today, we see another perfectly legal financial gambit that also makes a company’s prospects look better then they are.

In this instance, we see that Zynga – the purveyor of all those ubiquitous, and in my humble opinion obnoxious, Facebook games like Farmville has added millions to its top line … thus preserving the perception of outstanding sales and momentum.

“The accounting change, spelled out in the San Francisco company’s third amended S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission last week, shortened the estimated average life of its virtual goods to 11 months from 14 months last year.”

The change added $27.3 million to Zynga’s top line, it said in the filing.”

“The boost from the accounting change sent Zynga over the $500 million mark in revenue for the first half of the year, putting it on pace to top $1 billion for the year.”

“Also, it meant the company reported net income of $1.8 million, instead of a loss of between $1 million and $2 million, according to Sam Hamadeh, CEO of, a research firm.”

“Even the tweaked accounting couldn’t hide a 90 percent drop in profits in the quarter, to $1.3 million compared to $13.9 million a year ago.” <Source>

What it really looks like when it is reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission …

Non-GAAP Financial Measures

To provide investors with additional information about our financial results, we disclose within this prospectus bookings, a non-GAAP financial measure. We have provided below a reconciliation between bookings and revenue, the most directly comparable GAAP financial measure.

Bookings is a non-GAAP financial measure that we define as the total amount of revenue from the sale of virtual goods in our online games and from advertising that would have been recognized in a period if we recognized all revenue immediately at the time of the sale.

We record the sale of virtual goods as deferred revenue and then recognize that revenue over the estimated average life of the purchased virtual goods or as the virtual goods are consumed.

Advertising revenue consisting of certain branded virtual goods and sponsorships is also deferred and recognized over the estimated average life of the branded virtual good, similar to online game revenue.

Bookings is calculated as revenue recognized in a period plus the change in deferred revenue during the period.

For additional discussion of the estimated average life of virtual goods, see the section titled “Management’s Discussion and Analysis of Financial Condition and Results of Operations—Revenue Recognition.”

We use bookings as one factor to evaluate the results of our operations, generate future operating plans and assess the performance of our company.

While we believe that this non-GAAP financial measure is useful in evaluating our business, this information should be considered as supplemental in nature and is not meant as a substitute for revenue recognized in accordance with GAAP.

In addition, other companies, including companies in our industry, may calculate bookings differently or not at all, which reduces its usefulness as a comparative measure. <SEC: Third Amended S-1A Filing>

The magic footnotes …

The estimated weighted-average life of durable and consumable virtual goods included in bookings during the six months ended June 30, 2010 was 14 months compared to 11 months for the six months ended June 30, 2011. In the six months ended June 30, 2011, online game revenue increased $27.3 million related to changes in our estimated average life of durable virtual goods

<SEC: Third Amended S-1A Filing>

The chances of an ordinary investor finding this through their own analytical efforts; and if found correctly interpreting what is really means is extremely small.

Bottom Line …

We are not expressing an opinion on the company, its valuation or its accounting methods, but use the above data to illustrate the diversity of thought in the accounting profession when preparing financials for companies with significant changes in their accounting and that are being potentially valued in astronomical terms.

We are also asking ourselves if this type of valuation is reminiscent of the recent dot com bubble bust when any company associated with the Internet was given an astronomical valuation even though they used manipulated financials, based much of their future on a single platform they did not control and faced significant competition with a low threshold of entry.

We should also remember that it is the accounting profession that was complicit (an unindicted co-conspirator, so to speak) in the past and current financial crises. And it was the accounting profession who unnecessarily complicates financials and who gave us “Enron-style” accounting with its off-balance-sheet Special Purpose Entities, Special Purpose Vehicles to hide the truth in the footnotes -- and then helped to accelerate the velocity of the downward market spiral with their mark-to-market procedures.

And finally, we are recommending that you take the Better Business Bureau’s long-standing mantra to heart: “Investigate BEFORE you invest.”

Obama: A scary thought ...

Here is a question for everyone to ponder …

What if Obama is hell-bent on pursuing his socialist agenda full well knowing that he is a one term president and could not sustain an in-depth media examination of his background including a legal challenge to his eligibility which would open up all of this personal records and review his alleged birth certificate in situ – to examine those certificates which pre-date and post-date his certificate?

Is the Manchurian candidate willing to be sacrificed for the greater good of his toxic political ideology?

Is he destined for a prosperous future like that enjoyed by Bill Clinton with his billion dollar library and foundations?

Or perhaps going on to another “historic” position – Secretary General of the United Nations – where anti-America, anti-white, and anti-Semitic proclivities are just another job requirement?

Obama 2012: Operation Vote designed to divide the nation by degrees of victimhood ...

The un-American democrat party …

America has always been a welcoming place, encouraging others to join us, to assimilate into the American way of life and to make their own fortunes. The country was founded on individualism and personal responsibility.

But the democrats have perverted the American value system. Primarily by soliciting campaign donations and voter support from “special interests” who, in turn, expect a “quid pro quo” response of special access to the corridors of power, contracts, grants, subsidies and legislative initiatives which favor their particular group – such as affirmative action – which de facto disadvantages other groups. Both corrupt and un-American. Something the Founding Fathers warned about in their communications about liberty, freedom and the founding of this country.

Even worse that the corruption of using the taxpayer’s money to purchase political support, is the democrat practice of creating and exploiting hyphenated-Americans.

Isolating and sowing dissention in particular identifiable communities of potential voters. Making these feel disadvantaged and forgotten. In essence creating a class of victims with one basic grievance: the government is not doing enough for us and is doing more for someone else. Overlooking their personal responsibility for their own actions and believing everything bad is now a societal issue.

The government is not providing enough jobs, a better education, more recreational opportunities; so we are justified in abrogating our personal responsibility to improve ourselves and thus are further justified in sitting around doing recreational drugs. It is also the government’s fault in allowing these drugs to be freely available as it entices our community to behave badly. And something must be wrong when those in our community are convicted of a crime and disproportionately occupy jail cells.

Of course, this is also a cultural issue. With some recently-arrived people attempting to turn America into a replica of their former home in crapistan – where mañana (an indefinite future) is a way of life and education is not a major issue with lesser-educated parents. Something that is not likely to be remedied by the continued balkanization of residential and commercial areas by the politicians. Here in Southern California, we have Chinatown, Little Korea, Little Tokyo, Thai Town and other areas where people of a single culture aggregate, speak ethnic languages, eat ethnic food and preserve ethnic customs and traditions rather than becoming part of the American family.

After balkanization and dividing Americans into hyphenated-Americans, the democrats form a coalition of the disaffected, disadvantages and disgusted – hoping that the totality of the numbers provides a win at the ballot box. Promising each of these groups and, most importantly, their leaders something in return for their support. Most un-American and a practices which perpetuates dissention along class, color, racial, ethnic, national origin, gender and sexual orientation lines. A corrupt practice that must stop before we balkanize ourselves out of the America we know and love.

The traditional “Judas Goats” …

Witness the religious leaders in the black and Jewish communities who are willing to sell out their people for handouts – whether it be the government’s promotion of their position as an “influential community leader” or simply the receipt of what has been popularly called “walking around money,” these leaders are nothing but shills and advocates for anyone willing to pay them their price.

It has always mystified me why Jewish leaders insist on supporting democrats like Carter and Obama who are, at the very least, anti-Israel and appear to be anti-Jew. Likewise, it has always mystified me why the Blacks do not clearly see that most of the most horrendous black inner city ghettos are controlled by democrats who have failed to account for billions of dollars in assistance in providing employment, reducing drugs and crime, rehabilitating housing and improving education. Where the hell did this money go? Are the blacks so blind as to notice that their party is pandering to the illegal aliens who are pushing them out of jobs and even their own communities.

A little proof …

As reported in the Washington Post …

Obama 2012 campaign’s Operation Vote focuses on ethnic minorities, core liberals

President Obama’s campaign is developing an aggressive new program to expand support from ethnic minority groups and other traditional Democratic voters as his team studies an increasingly narrow path to victory in next year’s reelection effort.”

“The program, called ‘Operation Vote,’ underscores how the tide has turned for Obama, whose 2008 brand was built on calls to unite ‘red and blue America.’ Then, he presented himself as a politician who could transcend traditional partisan divisions, and many white centrists were drawn to the coalition that helped elect the country’s first black president.”

President Obama lied and continues to lie …

Hope, Change, Overcoming Racial dissention appear to be nothing more than a campaign slogan from the man who is perpetually in “campaign mode;” lying to the American public about what he and his administration are doing to the nation. Like that other progressive democrat, Bill Clinton, it was always a game of don’t look behind the curtain because we are the most transparent and accountable administration ever.

We can see as much, or possibly even more, corrupt cronyism and incompetent malfeasance than we found in the previous Bush and Clinton administrations. But, at the very least, no one questioned or doubted President Bush’s commitment to America or his personal patriotism.

More of “The Chicago Way” …

Synonymous with corruption and corrupt politics, “The Chicago Way” represents the very worst in democrat politics – and in human behavior. So why are we not surprised to read:

Operation Vote will function as a large, centralized department in the Chicago campaign office for reaching ethnic, religious and other voter groups. It will coordinate recruitment of an ethnic volunteer base and push out targeted messages online and through the media to groups such as blacks, Hispanics, Jews, women, seniors, young people, gays and Asian Americans.”

You can’t get much more un-American than this. The political parties should be standing up for American values and saying, if you believe in what we are saying and what we are doing for all Americans, join us in making America an even better place to live. This is pretty much why I consider the Congressional Back Caucus (with the exception of Alan West) to be a group of racists pandering to their core constituency for the purpose of gaining and maintaining political power – the rest of America be damned.

Enter the Judas Goats …

“The campaign this month hired a longtime Jewish political activist as a point person for that community, the first of many such hirings to come this fall as staffers are brought on from each of the target groups.”

And it is complemented by changes at the White House, including the impending hiring of a new Jewish community liaison and the recent promotion of another aide tasked with forging closer ties to black lawmakers, who have accused Obama of shying away from boosting troubled African American communities out of fear of alienating white voters.

What is this bullshit? The American people have poured billions into black communities, billions into education, billions into housing initiatives – for what? I don’t see that anything has improved. Those who live in crapistan must want to leave the ghetto or improve the ghetto before we will see progress. Until the residents start accounting for themselves and their corrupt leadership, nothing much will change. What the hell has Maxine Waters done for her community? Why has the Congressional Ethics Committee dragged their feet on her alleged complicity in trying to get special favors for a bank associated with her husband?

A bid for the women’s vote features corruption and incompetence personified …

“A women’s page features a photo gallery of high-level female administration officials under the headline ‘Barack Obama’s Strong Leaders,’ including Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett.”

Hillary Clinton who has never come to terms with her personal and White House corruption? Janet Napolitano who appears to be the incompetent version of Clinton’s Janet Reno? Valerie Jarrett, the Chicago wheeler-dealer linked to corrupt individuals and enterprises? These people are only marginally “women” and could mostly be described as figments of the feminist imagination.

Bottom line …

Once again, the democrats are pushing their un-American, corrupt and socialist views on America. Trying to turn America into the balkanized, unionized, socialistic crapistan that is found in Europe.

They hope that people will not notice that Obama’s performance, his fellow travelers and Congressional democrats have prolonged the recession – some say deliberately – with their central planning and continued government meddling into the housing and financial markets. Billions have gone missing and the government appears to be reluctant to provide an accounting for these missing or misused funds.

Not to say that the GOP is much better in their selection of candidates, but I at least hear something that glorifies American and wants to unite, rather than divide and exploit, Americans.

I am discouraged. With the level of corruption in government. With the pandering to public employee unions which work against the public. With balkanizing and dividing America for political advantage – something that is likely to bring about the decline, if not downfall, of our nation.

Want to see the future – it is right here in California. Where Hispanics have invaded the culture and are electing Mexican socialists with an allegiance to their foreign-born constituents, who in turn, still have loyalty for a foreign sovereign nation. We are being demographically bombed out of our houses, our jobs and our state by a foreign evasion – all at the hands of corrupt, pandering politicians who will do or say anything to gain or maintain political power.

I urge you to vote for honest brokers to serve “We the People.” Enough with the un-American democrats and the socialist/communist fellow travelers. I never thought I would see a day when a communist was invited through the front door of the White House and given a position of responsibility and power.

Enough is Enough. Obama and the Congressional democrats must be driven from office and replaced by constitutional conservatives. Unfortunately, I do not see enough of them in the Republican Party. So it appears that we may elect another RINO because anything or anybody is better than Barack Obama. Discouraging as we will be looking forward to more corruption and malaise until the 2016 election.

I hope note – but as my best friend Al says: “We’re doomed!”

Global Warming: forget the science, it really doesn't matter ...

There are those who have believed that the subject of climate science has devolved into a progressive socialistic ideology that, like religion, must require a leap of faith.

Enter a French mathematician, physicist, inventor, writer and Catholic philosopher, Blaise Pascal, who died on August 19, 1662.

“Following a mystical experience in late 1654, he had his ‘second conversion,’ abandoned his scientific work, and devoted himself to philosophy and theology.”

“Pascal's Wager: even if the existence of God could not be determined through reason, a rational person should wager as though God exists, because living life accordingly has everything to gain, and nothing to lose.”

Adapted to global warming …

Man should do everything in his power to reduce pollution for the inherent benefits it will confer on mankind and individual lives – and that if global warming was simply a natural self-regulating phenomenon beyond man’s ability to control, there is no harm and no foul from engaging in reducing pollution.

I find myself agreeing with the premise. We should be good stewards of our ecosphere and do everything in our power to avoid unduly polluting the land, water and air.

Enter politics and corruption …

What I violently disagree agree with is related to the people who are selected to implement public policy and the manner in which it is implemented. Because history teaches us that power is both corrupting and leads to activities in which those who hold power will do almost anything to preserve their position and power.

There is no argument that Pascal was a child prodigy who turned into a mathematician and scientist of the first order. And there is little or no doubt in my mind that we should attempt to preserve our ecosphere.

But, it also appears that there are no honest brokers to whom we can entrust this mission.

We have already seen the demonization of carbon dioxide using specious science for the purpose of controlling the creation, storage, transmission and usage of energy. Energy which is necessary for life and commerce.

We have already seen attempts by politicians to implement public policies that would enlarge government, raise taxes, raise the costs of all goods and services and reduce our personal freedoms … while giving a pass to those gross polluters who have the money or connections to purchase indulgences to continue their polluting ways.

We have seen the creation of a mechanism to develop, value and trade these indulgences for the profit of those controlling the trading infrastructure.  These people act as intermediaries, profiting from the activities of others without creating anything of tangible value themselves.

You cannot convince me that allowing a local population in El Segundo, California to deal with local pollution and the medical problems it may induce by purchasing a tree-planting contract in the Amazon rainforest – by citing a net global benefit which is impossible to measure. The rational among you will note that this is nothing more than an attempt to impose socialist wealth distribution while profiting from each and every transaction. Benefitting no one except the politicians and the special interests that support them.

To even think that the United States alone could alter the global temperature in the face of continued pollution by China, Russia and the developing nations is ludicrous.

I propose a different proposition …

What if we take all of the money that is being channeled to institutions, scientists and projects with the hope of justifying political policies that benefit the politicians and their special interests and invest it in new cost-effective technologies and debt reduction which would have both primary and secondary benefits to our economy.

I say we do nothing – continuing to research the phenomenon of global climate change at a lesser level.

I say that we make a real difference by spending the billions which are being wasted on so-called green energy production which appears to be unreliable, unsustainable and definitely not cost effective and develop real energy independence by instituting a national nuclear power initiative. Placing nuclear plants – not by regional politics – but by safety concerns. Building a suitable transmission grid that would support these energy sources with minimum transmission losses. A smart grid – a really smart grid – that does not have a reliance on computer controls and is interlocked to the degree of allowing massive cascading power failures.

I say we make a real difference by developing our own natural resources: clean coal, natural gas, low-sulfur oil.

And I say we make a difference by throwing out the thieves, charlatans and their fellow travelers and elect honest brokers to serve “We the People” in 2012.

Bottom line …

Global climate change is nothing but an unproven hypothesis that substitutes flawed computer models and data to produce a pre-ordained public policy solution. While no one can deny that our planet warmed after emerging from the little ice age, no one can accurately measure the temperature change, project its future course or prove that man can affect the global climate to any significant and measurable degree.

To waste billions of dollars to push a toxic public policy is unacceptable. And politicians who subvert science to push their own political ideology should be removed from office and replaced by people we can trust.

Unfortunately, all I can see on the horizon are progressive democrats-socialists and a GOP which is mired in past power politics. Neither party putting forth an attractive candidate that can be trusted.

A turbine is nothing more than a motor …

Capture9-17-2011-3.47.43 PM

Essentially a turbine is a motor … instead of driving the motor with an electrical current to produce motion, a wind turbine works backwards, using the motion of the wind to drive the motor to produce electricity.

But what really goes on inside the turbine head …

Here is a cross-section illustration of the motor that drives the majority of green-power turbines in the United States.

The parties rotate around the taxpayer’s money generating heat, light, buzz and an electrical current that can shock the sensibilities of anyone impartially observing the process.

Bottom line …

While wind power, solar power, geothermal power and other generation methods have their place – most are not reliable, cost-effective or sufficient to supply the energy needs of an industrial America.

Without taxpayer subsidies or legislation demanding that consumers use energy generated by these green methods, they would never be accepted by the consuming public.

Our nation must develop energy independence to prevent middle eastern oil sources from holding America hostage to their oil production and the use of our petro-dollars to support terrorism and despotism in the region – as well as subverting the American political process by funneling money to corrupt politicians.

To achieve energy independence, we must exploit our own petroleum-based assets in a clean manner and implement nuclear energy. All of which are sustainable, cost-effective and reliable.

We need to elect honest brokers to serve “We the People” in 2012 – in the White House, Senate, House of Representatives and in our local and state governments. Unless we do this, we are doomed to spending billions on nonsensical green energy projects which benefit relatively few people.

Proof: Obama and his fellow travelers shoveled one-half BILLION dollars into a green energy company teetering on the brink of bankruptcy – bailing out the original investors (and not so coincidentally Obama’s big contributor) and sticking “We the People” with the bill.

Let’s make sure we are getting our money’s worth when we generate, transmit and consume energy. No special deals.

One-Half BILLION flushed down the drain …

Solyndra Spent Liberally to Woo Lawmakers Until the End, Records Show …

The 1,100 full- and part-time employees who were abruptly laid off two weeks ago aren’t the only ones whose paychecks have been affected by the sudden and dramatic failure of bankrupt solar energy company, Solyndra Inc.

Because for its brief lifespan, Solyndra proved to be pretty good for the lobbying community.

According to records filed with the Clerk of the House and a search of disclosure forms compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics, Solyndra spent nearly $1.9 million on lobbying activities over a period of 43 months from 2008 to 2011. <Source>

On September 22, nine Republican candidates will meet in the  Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida for the Fox News/Google Debate.

The debate will be anchored by Bret Baier (Special Report) and featuring panelists Chris Wallace (Fox News Sunday) and Megyn Kelly (America Live).

According to the rules requiring polling at least one-percent in the FOX, CNN, ABC, McClatchy-Marist and Quinnipiac national polls former New Mexico Governor, Gary Johnson, qualified to join the other debate participants.

This debate will focus on social security, ObamaCare, spending, taxes and foreign affairs – probably with an emphasis on Israel, Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Google component will allow questions from an international audience although they have no right to participate in tonight’s debate or even render an opinion which takes time from serious candidates. I believe that we are in the good hands of Bret Baier who proved himself to be an excellent moderator in other debates.

Each of the candidates will have something to prove or a point to make:

Rick Perry, positioned by the media as the front-runner, he appears to be on top in recent polls although the distance between him and Mitt Romney has closed considerably after the last debate.  Perry must successfully fend off attacks on his positions to remain the front-runner. Issues likely to cause concern:

  • Social Security as a state – rather than a federal mandate.
  • State power to compel vaccinations.
  • Immigration since he has a cooperative relationship with Mexico and allows illegal aliens to receive in-state tuition.
  • Foreign policy as it relates to Israel.

Mitt Romney, must re-capture the lead from Rick Perry and continue to present a polished, informed presidential demeanor. Look for Romney to attack frontrunner Perry over Social Security – a major issue in Florida. Romney can clearly beat Obama – now it needs to be seen if he can beat a Southern Conservative.

Michelle Bachmann, Another opportunity to diminish Rick Perry’s influence on her conservative base. But must fend off some of her unprovable and nutty statements when it comes to vaccinations. Prone to making statements that encourage post-debate fact checking.

Herman Cain, expect more of “we need to define the problem, I’ve got a solution, Here is what you have to do” directness. He is auditioning for the position of Vice President.

Rick Santorum, look for Rick Santorum to attempt to raise his presence by attacking Perry. Another Vice Presidential hopeful. Ardent supporter of Israel.  Could be trying for a Cabinet position.

Ron Paul. Same as always, one should expect another feisty rant from the quirky, passive-aggressive Ron Paul. Look for everything to devolve into a constitutional issue – with emphasis on non-interventionism, the Federal Reserve and possibly Obamacare.  He continues to be an entertaining non-starter.

Newt Gingrich. He is mostly irrelevant with high personal negatives that offset his command of history. Look for Newt to chastise the media and go after Obama. He will defend himself but does not seem likely to  gratuitously attack a fellow candidate. Good for memorable sound bites.

Jon Huntsman. The empty suit, the odd man out who should be running as a democrat on the democrat ticket. He is articulate, telegenic and appears to be every bit as much an empty suit as President Barack Obama. Look for him to attack the front-runners to remain relevant in the media. Especially Rick Perry.

Gary Johnson, the former New Mexico governor who has not participated in previous polls and has no right to be on the platform tonight. His participation only takes time away from the serious candidates and is not likely to enter the ranks of  the second tier of candidates. He needs a breakout moment that can only be achieved by mortally wounding another candidate. Since he has relatively no media exposure – it has to be an explosive performance to even make it to Vice Presidential consideration.

The Players, comments and result …

(Small Business) Lower taxes; fair and predictable regulatory environment that is fair and predictable; tort reform; plan to follow. Under $200,000 little or no tax on interest, dividends  and capital gains.  59-point jobs plan. Corporate and Employer tax rates have to be competitive. Government and regulators must be allies of business not foes. Energy Secure. Trade policies that work for us and not only for the other guys. Does not define “rich,” wants people to have opportunity.

Reinforces sound and stable social security.

Refused to call Obama a socialist – but characterized him as a  big spending liberal, Obama takes inspiration from socialist democrats in Europe. Need to rein in the size of government.

Education must be at state level, get the federal government out of education. Smaller class size is promoted by the teachers’ unions. Best thing for education is great teachers. Test the children. Will stand up to national teachers unions. Says Secretary of Education Arne Duncan is doing a good thing by saying teachers should get evaluated, remove unsuccessful teachers from the classroom.

Attacked Perry on letting illegal aliens get in-state tuition. Doesn’t make sense to subsidize illegal aliens while making residents of other states pay more.  We have to have a fence, enough border agents, e-verify, turn off the magnet of extraordinary government benefits.

Israel: Not an inch of space between America and her allies. The right course for us is not to negotiate for Israel, but to stand behind our friends, listen to them and let the whole world know we will support them and defend them. Unacceptable for Iran to become a nuclear nation.

As Texans, Perry has a different approach from President Bush in style and substance. Spending, Medicare Part D, No Child Left Behind.

Need market-based insurance. Romneycare was different from Obamacare. It is market-based not government-based. Would issue a waiver for all 50 states opting out of ObamaCare.

I know what I stand for. I have written it down.  Words have meaning and I have the experience to get this country going again.

Need leadership, a truth teller, a patriot.

You want a running mate that could be the President of the United States. Anyone would be better than what we have now.

(Small Business)  competitive tax rates; energy independence; Obama did everything wrong. Tort reform. Written jobs plan to follow.

Changed answer on Social Security being returned to the states. Public employees should be able to opt out of federal social security. Solemn oath to protect social security for those now covered or people about to be covered.

Attacked RomneyCare as a failure.

School choice (vouchers), Attacked Romney on supporting Obama’s “Race to the Top” as not being conservative.

High on border security but opposes a fence; supports in-state tuition (subsidy) for illegal aliens. Formerly proposed U.S.-Mexico insurance policy. Responds to Perry attack by claiming building a 1200-mile fence does not make sense. You put the boots on the ground.

Pakistan: Ally with India, stand by our allies.

Tried to get a Medicaid waiver to have more options in healthcare. He wants healthcare decisions to be made at state level.

Attacked Romney as a flip-flopper. Romney responded in kind.

Joked his running mate would be a combination of Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich.
cyan_rightcyan_down MICHELLE BACHMANN
Taxes: It’s your money, you should keep it.

Education: local control with parents. Repeal entire federal education law. Turn out the lights at the Department of Education and send the money back to the states.

Uphold the sovereignty of the United States. Build the fence  on every inch. Enforce immigration laws on the books. No tax-payer benefits for illegals or their children. No magnets.

Government should not be a State Church is essence of separation of Church and State. Doesn’t mean people of faith should not be allowed to exercise faith in public square.

Walked back HPV vaccine/mental illness story by saying she was repeating what an audience member had claimed. And that Perry replaced parental decision with government decision.

Tried to smear Perry his ad his aide’s connection with the HPV drug company.

Perry admitted error, but claimed he “erred on the side of life” and would do it differently. Claimed that there was an “opt out” provision.

Introduced a bill to repeal ObamaCare and that’s the first thing she would do if elected.

Conservatives should not have to settle.
cyan_rightcyan_up HERMAN CAIN Toss the tax code. His 9-9-9 (9% corporate tax, personal income tax and national sales tax) plan is the answer.

Eliminate EPA and rebuild a responsible EPA. Adopt Chilean model of social security – personal retirement accounts.

Education: all the programs at the federal level where there are strings attached, cut all strings. Got the federal government out of education.

Peace through strength and clarity. Mess with Israel and you mess with the United States of America.

Bureaucrats should not be inserted between the patient and their doctor. Compelling personal story about surviving stage-4 cancer with surgery, chemo because he could get access promptly, not deal with bureaucratic clerks.

Continues to stress need for leadership.

Would select Romney as a running mate if he would adopt 9-9-9 or Gingrich who he greatly admires.
cyan_rightcyan_up RICK SANTORUM Waffled on union question and right to work; believes public employee unions should be eliminated.

Education doesn’t serve the customer: the parents.
Parents responsibility to educate their children, not the government’s responsibility.

Tells Perry he is making a leap: that unless the taxpayers subsidize education for illegals, they won’t be able to go to college. Let them get jobs like everyone else. As why should illegal aliens be given preferential treatment as an illegal in this country? Perry is soft on illegal immigration; doesn’t want to build a fence. Talked about buying national health insurance between Mexico and Texas. He is weak on American sovereignty and protecting our borders.
Listen to the Generals, stabilize Iraq government. Wants victory, not political interference.

Iraq: Not for removing troops from the region. Listen to our generals, we need to stabilize Iraq. We engage because we want to be successful, we want victory not on a political agenda to withdraw troops.

Pakistan: establish allies in the country to make sure any coup could be overturned before nuclear weapons become accessible to unknown parties.

Gay Issues: Sex has no place in military. Would return to don’t ask-don’t tell. Tragic we are playing social experiments with military. Keep sex private.

We have a President who does not understand what America is all about.

Would hypothetically pick Newt Gingrich as a running mate.
Veto all unconstitutional bills that violates the 10th Amendment. No federal authority to control economy, schools or personal lives.
Do thinks at state level.

Get the Federal Government out of education. Parents should get tax credits and be able to opt of of the system. Don’t enforce
“No child left behind.”

Thinking about the fences keeping people out, maybe they could used to keep us in. Went into repatriation of dollars held overseas. When countries destroy their currency, they do lead to capital controls – and they lead to people controls. Spoke about national databanks and national ID. No benefits for illegals. No free education, no free subsidies, no citizenship, no birth rights citizenship.

Supports rape exception to abortion and morning after pill as a state issue. There are times when the law does not solve the problems, only the moral character of the people will eventually solve this problem.

Have to deal with the Federal Reserve, free-markets, the tax program and the regulatory system – then you can create jobs.

Would concentrate on being candidate one or two, rather than name a running mate.
cyan_downcyan_down NEWT GINGRICH Tie unemployment benefits to training as an investment in human capital. Unemployment without training is wrong.
People should not get money for doing nothing.

Will create 21st Contract with America.

Shrink the Department of Education and get rid of all its regulations. States should adopt the equivalent of Pell Grants (vouchers) for all K-12 so parents can choose where their children go to school.

Outsource e-verify to credit card companies and do it right. 100% control of the border and English as the offical language of government. Modernize legal visa system.

Replace government-to-government aid with business investment. Don’t give money to people who vote against us in the United Nations.

An unstable and nuclear Pakistan presents the greatest threat.

Nothing will turn America around more than on election night when Barack Obama loses decisively.

Claimed picking a vice president isn’t a Hollywood game.
cyan_rightcyan_up JON HUNTSMAN Mostly platitudes. Energy independence; major push and short-term subsidy for natural gas. Believes his wife is the greatest person he has ever known.

We’re not going to raise taxes. Reform tax code.Phases out for individuals all the loopholes, all the deductions  and creates three rates: 8%/14%/23%. Corporate – phases out all of the corporate welfare, all of the subsidies – taxed at 25%. Tax reform, structural reform dealing with Dodd-Frank, repeal Obamacare.

Signed second voucher bill in the United States. Promotes early childhood literacy.
Say no to mandates coming out of Washington. Localize education.

Huntsman to Perry: Bring troops home from Afghanistan.
Perry responded: Just because our economy is sick, does not mean our country is sick and does not mean our values are sick.We are going to stand up for those values and make sure our country is safe. We should be fighting wars to win, not fighting wars for politics. Change the Rules of Engagement.

Huntsman to Perry: Only Pakistan can save Pakistan. Only Afghanistan can save Afghanistan. All I want now is for America to save America.
ObamaCare brought uncertainty to the economy. Gummed up our system. It should be a state issue with affordable catastrophic coverage. Cost containment by harmonizing medical records.

Running mate – Herman Cain.
cyan_downcyan_downcyan_down GARY JOHNSON Balanced budget in 2013and veto everything where expenditure exceed revenue. Throw out tax code for consumption (FAIR) tax.

More tedious than his libertarian cohort Ron Paul when it comes to repeating he is for a balanced budget.

Eliminate Department of Education.

Greatest threat to national security is a bankrupt America. Will submit a balanced budget in 2013 with a 43% reduction in military spending.
Supports trade to Cuba because trade promotes friendship.

Michelle Bachmann reminds all that Cuba is still on the State Department’s State Sponsors of Terrorism.

Balance the budget now, throw out the tax code and replace it with the FAIR tax.

Would want Ron Paul as a hypothetical running mate.

Best lines …

“My next door neighbor’s two dogs have created more shovel ready jobs than this administration.”– Gary Johnson

“I spent my life in the private sector, not in government. I only spent four as a governor, I didn’t inhale.” – Mitt Romney

Megyn Kelly: … “How can you possibly slash spending by 40 percent? How can you do it”  “Well by the way you describe the question, you can’t.  … If you assume that Washington remains as Washington is right know, it’s all hopeless. You might as well buy Greek bonds and go down together.”

“Sometimes we are frustrated with all of you answering questions.” – Moderator Chris Wallace.

“When your brother-in-law is unemployed, it’s a recession. When you are unemployed, it’s a depression. When Jimmy Carter is unemployed, it’s a recovery.” – Newt Gingrich

When asked to pick a hypothetical running mate: “These are all good friends of mine. I couldn’t imagine hurting their feelings by choosing one tonight.” –- Newt Gingrich.

Bottom line …

One, there are too many people in the debate which dilutes the time available for serious answers that go beyond one minute sound bites.

Two, there was too much emphasis on the trivial and pre-tested platitudes. There must be serious discussions – not an attempt to create media-friendly sound bites. Perhaps we should not treat these debates as a time-constrained media package and go back to the long-format with media reporting after the fact and the video being made available on YouTube.

Three, it is clear that the GOP has, once again, steered America into a pre-ordained outcome. With Mitt Romney as the designated candidate, Rick Perry as the loyal opposition who makes the chosen one look good. And the rest of the characters, contestants, candidates as local color to give the appearance of choice.

Four, the use of the social media like Twitter and YouTube is a glitzy distraction giving the appearance of participation; but the truth is that the questions were picked before hand by the moderator and producer’s panel and the time wasted in the video presentation is not helpful. Google searches and word clouds were filler and eye-candy.

Megyn Kelley was a disappointment when she asked Perry to account for a Perry-Bush feud and Perry was forced to waste time saying nice things about Bush. Something no one cares about and is trivial.

It would be nice to see someone else with core principles run for office. My choice would be Alan West for President. And unfortunately Marco Rubio appears to be Constitutionally ineligible, because his parents became citizens 4 years after he was born and cannot be regarded as a “natural born” citizen. Ditto for that other Republican rising star, Bobby Jindal.

In the final analysis, it looks like Romney looked composed and presidential; Perry looked hesitant. Michelle Bachmann did not make a real impact. The others were so-so, except Gary Johnson who was somewhat annoying. If nothing significant happens, what we will get is the GOP’s version of  “Obama-Lite.”
