I have been thinking more and more about the political craziness in Wisconsin, California, Arizona and elsewhere in the United States. And my conclusions are simple and rather startling.
The progressives are at the root of most of the social and economic chaos in the United States. Even while pointing a finger at the opposition, it takes very little effort to see that the progressives are attempting to use our own laws against us, miring us in an ever-expanding world of artificial complexity that criminalizes or prohibits many of our day-to-day activities.
The reason for this continuing antagonism against business is relatively simple. It is based on the premise that the bounty of the Earth, like the amount of money contained within the financial system is limited and that we have already stretched the system as far as possible – creating an ecological deficit by consuming more of the planet’s resources than can be replenished and creating a continually expanding deficit that can never be repaid.
That these deficits have risen to such a level as to require intervention of a strongly motivated and empowered ruling elite to set us on the course of repairing the damage to the planet and our financial system.
That the government and the media must create a sense of urgency that will allow the ruling elite to assume power over us without provoking a civil insurrection by people who believe that individualism trumps the type of collectivism that is found in European-style socialism.
And the way progressives plan to achieve this power is twofold: one, to create an entitlement class whose growing numbers will allow for the ruling class to cite “majority rule” when taking action; and two, to silence any form of dissent by limiting access to free speech or criminalizing such speech as being “subversive.”
Based on a false premise …
When examined carefully, the entire premise behind the progressive’s plan is not just flawed, it is patently false.
Nature’s biodiversity and ability for adaptation is ill-understood by even those who proclaim to know the subject matter best. Most experts function only in narrow fields of expertise and combining their findings into a single hypothesis does not make the hypothesis correct. Especially if the findings exist only in computer models which confuse correlation and appearance with causation. Because of the vastness of the planet, there is little or no probability that we have come anywhere near to exhausting our natural resources or that science and technology cannot assist us in creating alternatives.
Consider, at this point in time and with all the learned experts, that we do not know how oil is actually made. Compressed products of decaying plants and animals is only a hypothesis and nobody knows how nature performs the trick of cross-linking molecules into petroleum products. And even if our natural oil supply was finite and nearing exhaustion, one merely needs to consider the boundless nature of radioactivity and the ability to generate unlimited energy using nuclear sources.
Ask yourself why both parties demand that the United States become energy independent – and have made this demand for decades – yet nothing is done?
And when it comes to financial matters, one must look at what the progressives, mainly democrats, in the government have done to build their entitlement coalition around the idea of collectivism and social justice for all.
Ask yourself, why the politicians use scare resources to support people who do not legally belong in this country?
Or why these very same politicians refuse to cap the salary and benefits of public employees which far exceed the salaries and benefits of private sector employees?
Or why corporate criminals are not being punished – lest they reveal who they have paid off?
These politicians have become the modern Janus, the two-faced god of beginnings and transitions; ever looking at the past (socialism, communism) and the future (a perfect planet for perfect people). Simultaneously embracing personal corruption for their self-interest and the promotion of those special interests which support their activities. Forcing companies to continually raise prices to support their ecological ideas and weakening sound underwriting procedures to allow money to flow to their core constituency: the poor, the minorities, and the collectivist unions – whom they support in return for campaign funds, media support and voter drives.
The unions as an object lesson …
We are not speaking of the private sector unions which have fostered great gains in child labor laws, health and safety provisions and sit across from management as a relatively honest broker representing labor.
We are speaking of public employee unions which bear little or no resemblance to private sector unions. They are not honest brokers for their members; many of whom do not agree with nor do they support the union’s progressive philosophy. They are not honest brokers for the people as their influence is used to elect public officials to do their bidding – inspiring such fear in duly elected officials that they ignore their primary responsibilities to “We the People” in order to provide the unions with growing power and financial support. It is the people who do not have a seat at the table. In other words, we are seeing a situation of “taxation without representation.”
Progressivism on both sides of the aisle …
I cannot condemn progressive democrats without mentioning progressive republicans. Specifically aisle hoppers like John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe and others. Some of which claim to have conservative roots while continuing to further the goal of the progressives.
Even the Tea Party Movement is being infiltrated …
Even when or current financial and social situation calls for drastic action, in the form of a Tea Party Movement, we see traditional politicians attempting to subvert the movement for their own political gain.
Consider progressive Orrin Hatch (R-UT) pandering to the Tea Party Movement to keep his privileged and pampered position in the United States Senate. In spite of having done more damage to the digital industry with his mandatory restrictions on both electronic devices and recordable media. He is one of the people behind the embedding of your identification in each and every file you create with your electronic devices. He is the man behind the increasing stringency of the copyright act which was originally a method to insure the public’s right to use materials created by authors and artists in return for a period of exclusive exploitation. Not a perpetual means to lock-up content for the content distributors.
Consider progressive Dick Armey, the former Congressional Representative from Texas (1985–2003) and who served as the House Majority from 1995 to 2003). Here is the man who served as the Chairman of the House Select Committee on Homeland Security and was the primary sponsor of the legislation that created the abominable and out-of-control Department of Homeland Security. How many people know that Dick Armey is one of the controlling interests behind “Freedom Works” which ostensibly has 700,000 members and professional paid staff in 10 states – and is positioned as “a leading voice of the Tea Party movement.”
Bottom line …
Progressives are trying to create a world of artificial scarcity and then using the management of scarcity to build unstoppable political power. Instead of improving the business and social climate (pun intended) of the United States, they are seeking to destroy our institutions and infrastructure. By dumbing down our educational standards, by allocating scare resources meant for our citizens to illegal aliens and by using our tax dollars to fund social programs rather than repair or replace our crumbling infrastructure.
If it seems like they are trying to negatively impact our national economy and our American way of life – it is because they are trying to turn us towards European-style socialism; with their stagnant economies, overwhelming numbers of unproductive and unionized government bureaucrats, and an entitlement culture which kills the middle class in favor of oligarchs and the union workers.
In the final analysis they are trying to lower our standard of living toward that of a third-world nation, to impose population control in the form of contraception, abortion and homosexuality, to force us to commit economic suicide by following their social justice prescriptions.
Wake up people. My best friend Al is convinced we are doomed. That we are at the tipping point – and once we cross over, there will be little chance for survival of the American Way. As much as I tell him he is wrong, I am seeing the other side win.
Consider that the public employee unions in Wisconsin are massing to recall those legislators who capped the power of the union and returned citizens to the bargaining table. Exactly what they promised in the last election and now they are paying the price for removing the public employee gravy train.
If we cannot rally enough support in 2012 to overcome the progressives, we might be doomed. If we continue to support progressives like Mitt Romney – the father of Romneycare which served as the template of Obamacare – my buddy Al might just win this argument.
