The subtle nature of Hollywood's progressive propaganda ...

When you listen or watch Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck or Mark Levin, you know what you are getting and you are aware of what they stand for. You employ your critical thinking abilities and turn on your BS detector. Their messaging and positions are crystal clear and there is absolutely no attempt to slide something by in stealth mode.

Not so, however, in television programs created and distributed by the Hollywood progressives. They have you at a severe disadvantage. You are relaxed, susceptible to repetitive suggestion and your critical thinking abilities are muted – after all this is entertainment.

And this is how Hollywood’s progressive crowd intends to indoctrinate American citizens with their progressive causes, ideas while further eroding morality. Turning good and evil, black and white into a muddled sense of multi-cultural morally equivalent shade of gray.

Let’s consider David E. Kelley’s new program, Harry’s Law, about a curmudgeonly lawyer (Kathy Bates) and her work with disadvantaged poor and minority clients. Poking fun at the current system while subtlety pushing progressive doctrine.

From Harry’s Law, Season One -- Episode Two …

The story line includes a poor Laundromat owner who is being sued by an employee for wrongful termination under the labor code. But it is not that simple – it never is – as the owner is Chinese and has terminated the employee because this will be her second child. Of course, the human rights violations are mentioned along with global warming and all of the other progressive causes.

But it was this dialogue, delivered in a courtroom defense of the Laundromat owner,  that really angered me.

The plaintiff’s obnoxious lawyer [Tommy] tries to cite a Constitutional reason why the plaintiff’ right to have a baby is protected.

The defendant’s Lawyer begins: “The Constitution guards against state action. Says what the government can’t do. It is silent on Laundromats.”

“She entered into a contract at a private business. His business. Nobody is trying to dictate her family planning. She’s free to work someplace else and have as many kids as she wants. But  if she chooses to work at this Laundromat, these are the terms which she agreed to.”

Judge: “But there are certain liberties that even a private company is not allowed to trample.”

Lawyer: “Unless the trampling satisfies a compelling state interest.”

Judge: “Then what would be yours?”

Lawyer: “Humanity.”

“Of all the things threatening to doom our world; global warming, nuclear proliferation, BP, Tommy, the biggest threat is overpopulation. “

”Too many people.””

“We’ve got 8 billion now, by 2050 we are projected to add another billion.”

“You can drive around in your little Priuses, use the curlicue light bulbs, recycle all you want – none of it, none of it will make a dent in what we have to do.

It’s curb population.”

”Say what you want about Chinese Communist totalitarian oppressive China – did I get them all? – But their one child policy program is the most historic, most meaningful step taken by any country to improve the well-being of society.”

“And we all love to preach that every person should do his part, don’t we?”  “

Fung Lao is doing his.”

There you have it …

Progressive propaganda slipped by your normally critical brain into your subconscious. To be ratified and amplified by repetition: over and over again by other progressive news and entertainment outlets that continuously push the progressive ideology. Mocking conventional thought while highlighting the basis tenet of progressive thought: the real planetary emergency is overpopulation and the coming scarcity of resources. Therefore, the progressives need to promote, and even ramp-up, abortion, contraception and promote non-productive homosexuality.

And, if nobody has noticed, it is these progressives in the United Nation and elsewhere that seem to be ineffective when it comes to fighting disease, pestilence and wars in undesirable or hostile parts of the world. Killing millions with their ban on life-saving DDT, but not curbing their righteous  rhetoric or their self-serving fundraising efforts.

The very same progressives who seem to shrug their shoulders at the ineffectiveness of these programs – and the stolen or diverted aid money and supplies. Billions go missing while people in Haiti continue to live in the streets. Ask that “useful idiot” Sean Penn – a man who openly admires so-called progressive dictator/thugs like Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez.

Would the world’s progressives go so far as to weaken a nation’s healthcare system or impose social policies to eliminate the weak, the unfit and the aging population? Look to history – it’s been done before.

Would the world’s progressives create a faux planetary emergency to enrich themselves and consolidate their political power? One only need to check out global warming to see the truth before your eyes.

Bottom line …

America, as never before, is facing internal enemies of our political system – the only workable system that has produced manifest results for all of humanity. To believe that we cannot improve our shelter, food, water and reduce global pollution to meet the demands of the future is ludicrous. America produces abundance, not relishes the type of  scarcity that demands to be managed by a ruling elite with their government thugs and corrupt special interests.

We are Americans and we better start paying attention to what is being taught to our children in our progressive-dominated schools, what is going out over our airwaves as innocent entertainment. I am not saying censor program content – that’s for the progressives who fear the truth and who are using our own laws against us. I am saying improve your personal awareness of the messaging that is subtlety destroying our country.

For those of you who thing this is a left-coast, right-coast issue and that the silent majority in middle America are not affected, consider for a moment the potential election of Rahm Emanuel in the Chicago heartland. Progressive to the bone – as is his buddies Valerie Jarrett, Barack Obama, Van Jones, Cass Sunstein and others.

We are under attack from within. Open your eyes. Join those who want to restore our Constitutional Republic. Or sit idly by and suffer the same fate as those in England, France and elsewhere.

OBAMA: AMERICA'S NEWEST GUN CONTROL EXPERT FROM CHICAGO

Almost every media source has claimed that President Barack Obama is planning to announce a gun control initiative that will urge Congress to toughen federal gun control laws and to use federal funds to reward states with tougher new gun laws.

Which makes me wonder if Obama is paying attention to how stringent gun control failed to make his home town of Chicago any safer?

So in the interests of providing a commonsense tutorial on gun control …

1.  It is crime control, not gun control that is the desired outcome.

2.  Legislators who believe that legislation will trump human nature, mental illness and a raw emotional response are either misguided or unrealistically optimistic. In most instances of criminality, the gun is a tool of intimidation and control. If a gun were not available, then a knife or a baseball bat would be used.

3.  Even though the United States Constitution’s Second Amendment was designed as a safeguard against governmental tyranny, the founding fathers recognized that our right of self-defense to be a God-given inalienable right that should not be abridged.

4. The “police” as well as other governmental agencies are charged with the maintenance of good general public order, but have no duty to provide protection to any particular individual citizen. Therefore it is unrealistic to believe that any governmental entity will be able to protect you and your family with any degree of certainty.

5.  The designation as some weapons as “assault rifles” based on their appearance is a distinction without a difference. The functionality of a semi-automatic weapon remains the same regardless of its cosmetic appearance.

6.  There are people who are afraid of guns and feel uncomfortable being around guns. They have chosen to grovel, beg and die – which is their choice. They do not have the right to tell the rest of us how to live our lives and protect ourselves and our families.

7.  There are no ways to toughen gun laws beyond what currently exists that will make criminals or crazies respect the law. The laws only impact and penalize law-abiding citizens.

8.  The exploitation of an individual like Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is shameful and pandering for the basest of political motives is both dishonest and despicable.

I am a member of the National Rifle Association (Endowment Level) and I do not believe anyone has a right to own or use grenades, mines, bazookas or other instruments of war any more than I believe that the Second Amendment permits you to own your own personal nuclear weapon.

For those who believe that high capacity magazines are evil, consider someone driving a truck into a crowd or using explosives – a deranged mind is a deranged mind.

Bottom line …

Politicians propose legislation as a solution to problems because that is what politicians do. Whether their motives are sincere or are merely a political calculation to generate media attention, campaign funding and voter support – the end result is the same: you cannot prevent crazy people from doing crazy things.

We have sufficient gun control restrictions and anti-crime laws on the books. Many of them have absolutely no effect as a deterrent to criminals and crazies.

And, if we were being honest, part of the problem is liberals pandering to criminals: preferring lighter sentences for minorities, illegal aliens and pushing release and rehabilitation rather than prison. Not to mention the continuing politicization of  prosecutors which has made us less safe as prosecutors cut plea bargains with dangerous and desperate men in order to insure a statistical conviction. It’s all about making the numbers, not reducing crime.  Parole and good-time sentence reductions are also problematical. And worst of all, are law enforcement officials like Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Baca who threatens to return criminals to the streets every time his department faces a budget review.

In the final analysis, it is far better to be armed when seconds count and the police are “just minutes away.” But this is America and unlike totalitarian states that is your personal choice.

ACCOUNTING MAGIC BY AND FOR THE FEDERAL RESERVE?

Pure ‘effin magic …

In past blog entries, we have decried the use of “accounting tricks” to turn losses into profits where none actually exist or artificially re-value underwater assets to improve a financial institution’s balance sheet. Now we are hearing that a similar trick is being used in connection with the Federal Reserve.

In the guise of increasing transparency, it appears that the Federal Reserve is tweaking its accounting methodology in a manner that will allow the Federal Reserve to incur significant losses without appearing as a hit to its capital.

Basically, losses would be carried by the regional Federal Reserve Banks as a liability to the United States Treasury. The Federal Reserve’s own balance sheet would remain unimpaired and the Fed would satisfy their obligations to the Treasury with future profits.

Since the Federal Reserve is a private corporation, owned and operated by its member banks, this accounting change is another malodorous example of insiders manipulating the system for their personal gain. It appears that the primary purpose of the maneuver is to insure that the Fed cannot be ruled insolvent, no matter what its real losses or capital impairment might be.

To illustrate the language of the change …

“The Board's H.4.1 statistical release, ‘Factors Affecting Reserve Balances of Depository Institutions and Condition Statement of Federal Reserve Banks,’ has been modified to reflect an accounting policy change that will result in a more transparent presentation of each Federal Reserve Bank's capital accounts and distribution of residual earnings to the U.S. Treasury. Although the accounting policy change does not affect the amount of residual earnings that the Federal Reserve Banks distribute to the U.S. Treasury, it may affect the timing of the distributions. Consistent with long-standing policy of the Board of Governors, the residual earnings of each Federal Reserve Bank, after providing for the costs of operations, payment of dividends, and the amount necessary to equate surplus with capital paid-in, are distributed weekly to the U.S. Treasury. The distribution of residual earnings to the U.S. Treasury is made in accordance with the Board of Governor's authority to levy an interest charge on the Federal Reserve Banks based on the amount of each Federal Reserve Bank's outstanding Federal Reserve notes.” <Source>

Disclose and dissemble …

Many financial gurus overlooked the real meaning of what the Federal Reserve was disclosing. And if anyone should question their actions, they need only point to the public document and claim it was there in black and white for all who cared to see.

One of the methods that the government used to permit predatory lending, usurious credit card rates, exorbitant bank fees and other egregious behavior. Because, it’s all there in a disclosure for anyone to read.

On January 30, 2011 – new borrowers will be facing a new “truth in lending” disclosure document. One said to be simpler and easier to use. The new disclosure replaces part of the old disclosure which, at least, made some semblance of sense to the average consumer. And in October, there will be another tweak to the disclosure system. And I dare not mention that the newly-created CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) that is working on a new set of disclosures that will replace other older disclosures. All in the guise of simplifying the process for the consumer. Or telling it like it is: simply lying.

Bottom line …

The system is not broken, it is corrupt. Corrupted by Congress and succeeding Administrations who have ignored prudent lending practices and honest enforcement efforts in order to politically pander to the financial community. Disadvantaging consumers in favor of the financial special interests in exchange for campaign contributions, voter support, media attention and employment and lucrative investments for themselves and their cronies after public life.

It appears that the Federal Reserve is rewarding greed, fraud, malfeasance and stupidity by allowing technically insolvent financial institutions to borrow money at near zero interest rates (technically zero to one-quarter of one-percent) to recapitalize their balance sheets by lending this money through credit cards that return up to 30% at a time when senior citizens on a fixed retirement are only getting 1-2% on their life’s savings.

It appears that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are still paying the legal bills to defend their former executives who cooked the books to generate tens-of-millions in bonus money. With the SEC and other enforcement agencies allowing an administrative punishment – a mere slap on the wrist – instead of putting these people in jail. That’s $160 million of the taxpayer’s money to defend against civil suits by those who defrauded honest investors.

Why, may you ask, is Barney Frank and Maxine Waters still in office after assuring the public that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were sound, well-capitalized enterprises months before they were placed in conservatorship?

Yes, the system is corrupt and we need to act now. We need to convince the Republican Party that their only hope for survival is to put forth a fiscally and socially conservative platform and nominate honest brokers to serve we the people.

Before it is too late and the system collapses under its own corrupt weight – something pre-ordained by the socialists who work towards this goal each and every day.

Steve's Analysis of the State of the Union Speech ...

With his classic TelePrompTer head swivel, platitudes and meaningless rhetoric flow from Obama’s mouth – thus adding to global pollution.

Whenever the Obama or his fellow travelers reached an impasse or were found to be acting in ways that apparently were not acceptable to a majority of Americans, they simply redefined the words they used. Many times in an Orwellian manner that were nonsensical and made white into black, left into right and up into down.

So as we brave Obama’s meaningless platitudes, here are some interpretive guidelines to the code words being used and other thoughts ….

Investment – like the word stimulus, this means more government spending.

Investing in education – preserving the union’s pension plans and making sure that the powerful unions are pleased. Obviously, the democrats do not care about the children or they would have sacked all of the administrators and teachers who have turned in an abysmal performance. Obama claims we need to educate our children to meet the future, yet the Administration continues to assist in dumbing down the curricula, spending more on collective mediocrity than excellence.  How can you expect high expectations and high performance in classrooms when you mandate that  illegal aliens, with their illiteracy and non-English problems, to drag that class down?

While you may have respect for teachers, how can you continue to provide lifetime tenure, medical care and retirement benefits when they produce so poorly?\

The American Dream Act – allowing children as the gateway to import their relatives into citizenship. Ask yourselves, how many illegal aliens flowing through our educational system have made it to top-level jobs and positions? It’s not the piece of paper, it’s the motivation and cultural respect for education that is lacking.

Investing in infrastructure – once again this plays to the supporting the union personnel who perform the repairs and replacement of our crumbling infrastructure. Of course, union involvement only means more corruption, higher prices and long time delays – and possibly shoddy work as workers race to keep up with artificial timelines and schedules.

Investment in green jobs – we plan to continue the sham of global warming and will provide indulgences to gross polluters to continue polluting and we will continue to hand out subsidies for technology and processes which are not cost-effective, sustainable and always available. And we do not care that your bills will go up fivefold. We will pay for this by soaking the oil and coal companies.

We need to spend billions to allow 80% to go places with high-speed rail – that often goes nowhere. In California, how many people want to use high-speed rail to go from Disneyland in Anaheim to the gambling meccas of Las Vegas?

Lobbyists – lawyers, accountants and consultants rigging the system on behalf of their clients; ignoring the fact that many high-level officials in the Obama Admiration are official or unofficial lobbyists.

Review of government regulations – eliminating many older laws, rules and regulations in order to propose new ones; all generating campaign contributions from lobbyists.

The paradox – Obama claims he wants to freeze spending, cut expenses and then uses the code word “investment” that signifies more government spending. It’s like

The sham of bi-partisan seating – hides the visual representation of the large number of missing democrats and reduces the jarring reality that the Republicans do not jump up and applaud horrible democrat initiatives.

The Republican Response …

Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan gave a credible response repudiating most of Obama’s initiatives, policies and practices in about ten minutes. If only the Republicans could follow-through on the rhetoric.

The Bachmann Response …

Minnesota Republican Michele Bachmann gave a sharper response on behalf of the Tea Party Movement. Unfortunately, it sounded like everything I have heard in the last two years from a movement without leaders, a lack of substantial resources and finances -- and with a sketchy record of performance.

However, I would have preferred Bachmann’s response to be the official position given on behalf of the Republican party – because it was specific and contained suggestions for righting the ship of state.

The media response …

Oh my, oh my – he mentioned immigration reform but didn’t mention the gay agenda and gay marriage. For the most part, the media coverage was as mediocre as the actual speechifying.

Bottom line …

Obama has lied before, so why should we trust him now that almost everything he has said in the past has been a political and practical lie. No matter what he says: employment is unacceptably high, spending has spiraled out of control, and the plans for Obamacare and Cap-and-trade are proceeding.

You cannot continue to fool the American public by changing the players or the names of the programs.

And we have heard it all before. The President’s TelePrompTer’ed speech was flat, unexceptional and filled with platitudes -- and as predictable as the Republican’s response. After ten years, same old, same old. All TelePrompTered political trash.

Obama is a man who has spent more time campaigning and vacationing than he has governing. By all measures, a rather laid-back and lazy president content to let others in his Administration and the Congress do the heavy lifting.

The single most important question is to ask if Obama is in campaign mode – another code word to excuse Obama’s blatant lies and misdirection?

But the truth is …

Capture1-24-2011-2.26.22 AM

The President has two years to prove that many far-left democrats should not be jailed for treason, promoting anti-American socialism and bankrupting our nation. And then he needs to sit with Jimmy Carter as one of the worst Presidents to ever inhabit the White House.

DILUTING THE LANGUAGE: THE TRUTH IS THAT NOT EVERYBODY VOLUNTEERING TO SERVE OUR COUNTRY IS A "HERO"

Along with the Marxist philosophy of unexceptionalism and collectivism, it appears that the democrat Congress is all about removing the distinction and power of the word “Hero” by applying it to everybody that has or is presently serving in our all-volunteer armed forces.

Therefore, I take exception to the labeling of  Senate Bill S. 4058  as the “Helping Heroes Keep Their Homes Act of 2010” which should have been rightly called “Helping Service Members Keep Their Homes Act of 2010.”

The Act which extends certain expiring provisions providing enhanced protections for service members relating to mortgages and mortgage foreclosure, is part of the overall protections for those who may have encountered difficulty while serving in our armed services.

While there are true acts of heroism and sacrifice, the mere participation in a group effort should not be used as a criteria to label rather ordinary clerks and support personnel as being heroes for their mere “un-coerced” service.

True heroism and sacrifice is found in individuals like Mike Monsoor, a Navy Seal killed in action on 29 September 2006 when he deliberately and unhesitatingly jumped on a live grenade, thrown by an Iraqi insurgent,  to save his brothers-in-arms. He posthumously received the Medal of Honor.

And as much as it is regrettable that Pat Tillman, a former pro football player killed in an Afghanistan "friendly fire" accident, died in the service of his country, he did not deserve the appellation “Hero” nor did he deserve the Silver Star for Valorous Service any more than the Sergeant who dies in a car accident when under fire.

Just as policemen and firemen perform also their duties in a dangerous environment, I think that we should reserve the word “HERO” for those who go above and beyond the call of duty. Not dilute the word to cover just about everybody who ever served their country in government service.

By the way, do you know that one of the criteria for the Medal of Honor is to have gone beyond your standing  orders and direction by a superior officer?  That is, if your platoon leader orders you to charge an enemy position to suppress fire, you are not eligible for the Medal of Honor no matter how many lives you saved that day. However, if acting on your own initiative, in the face of enemy fire, you storm that enemy position – then you are a HERO and eligible for the Medal of Honor. Perhaps a subtle distinction – but a worthy distinction nonetheless.

Believe me, there are many unsung heroes deserving of medals and recognition who regard their courageous and valorous acts as simply doing what is required under the circumstances. The quiet heroes who are doing it because it is something that needs to be done and just part of the job.

Please note:  we are not speaking of respect -- all who serve deserve both our respect and thanks – but calling them heroes somewhat annoys me as it dilutes the real acts of heroism, both on the battlefield and at home.

Bottom line …

There are heroes and there are exceptional performances – not to be diluted by regarding  the ordinary performance of one’s duty on behalf of a local, state or federal government as being worthy of the title “HERO.” Unless you are in the Soviet Union where its leaders were fond of giving themselves medals to decorate their uniforms.

Just my point of view and others are free to contradict me or comment further.

2012 Election Cycle: Presidential Vetting and Qualifications ...

The controversy over Barack Obama’s birth certificate and his eligibility to serve as the President of the United States has sparked a great controversy throughout the land.

A controversy that the President himself, you would assume, would lay to rest by simply granting access to his original birth certificate and any other documentation which would authenticate his eligibility. The media ascribes much of the controversy to those they label “birthers” and either demonize or denigrate as if the very thought of demanding certification of candidacy qualifications is somehow unthinkable.

Why Barack Obama has allowed the expenditure of millions of dollars to protest access to the very documents that would confirm his eligibility once and for all is problematical – because it only raises suspicion and diverts attention away from the real problems facing our country.

That is, unless Barack Obama lacks the required documentation for office and the country would be thrown into a constitutional crisis – making all legislation and executive orders signed during this period null and void. Perhaps not such a bad thing considering the overwhelming number of confusing, chaotic laws we now have on the books.

Enough with allowing corrupt and self-interested political parties to self-attest to the eligibility of their chosen candidates …

As we approach the 2012 election cycle, it is now time to remedy this national waste of time, effort and money by developing a universal qualification form. It is a simple one-page document and contains the following items.

Request for Certificate of Eligibility

I, ______________________ hereby swear, under penalty of perjury, that I am qualified to be elected to the position of  __________________________________ having fulfilled all of the statutory requirements of office and I willingly provide full and complete access to my birth certificate, school transcripts, social security records and passport information. And I hereby grant the authority to examine such documents to the Supreme Court of the United States of America should a question arise about my legal qualifications to serve in the position to which I might be elected.

Upon receipt and review of these documents, the Supreme Court shall  render a statement of candidacy, under penalty of perjury, that I am either qualified or not qualified to be a candidate for the position to which I might be elected.

____________________________

Signed, dated and witnessed

The candidate will have ten days from the date of any challenge to the designated officer of the Supreme Court who will treat these documents as having been filed under seal.

The Supreme Court will have sixty days from the date of document submission to verify the information contained in the documents and render a qualified/unqualified statement.

While it would be preferable for such a process to be institutionalized for all elected and appointed public offices which requires citizenship and other eligibility requirements, the system could initially be implemented for all federal Executive and Congressional elections.

Should a candidate refuse to provide documentation after signing the Certificate for the Determination of Eligibility, their candidacy would be ruled null and void. The candidate would be responsible for all costs of the election as well as for signing an oath under perjury.

Should President Obama refuse to sign such a certificate, his eligibility for the Office of the Presidency would be considered to be null and void.

The Associated Press is reporting …

“Hawaii law bars release of Obama birth info”

“A privacy law that shields birth certificates has prompted Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie to abandon efforts to dispel claims that President Barack Obama was born outside Hawaii, his office says.”

“State Attorney General David Louie told the governor that privacy laws bar him from disclosing an individual's birth documentation without the person's consent, Abercrombie spokeswoman Donalyn Dela Cruz said Friday.”

"There is nothing more that Gov. Abercrombie can do within the law to produce a document," said Dela Cruz. ‘Unfortunately, there are conspirators who will continue to question the citizenship of our president.’"

“Hawaii's privacy laws have long barred the release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who doesn't have a tangible interest.”

What game are the  politicians playing? The public has an overriding interest in this document as it lies at the very foundation of our democracy: the right to hold the highest office in the land based on qualifications clearly stated in the Constitution of the United States. Any decent attorney should be able to put forth this argument in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Bottom line …

At this point in time, We the People of the United States have a Constitutional right to demand that all elected officials adhere to the eligibility requirements as set forth in the United States Constitution.

And failing to prove eligibility either bars one from office or nullifies all officials acts, laws, proclamations and orders signed by that individual.

Enough of this hocus pocus partisan misdirection. Either Barack Obama is eligible for the office he holds or he is not and we must deal with the fact that an ineligible candidate managed to assume office. But We the People must know in order to have continuing faith in the current Administration.

Those who fight against revealing the true nature of Obama’s candidacy should stand accused in the dock alongside their candidate if it ever becomes apparent that a fraud was perpetrated upon We the People.

Obamacare: Who is behind the healthcare crapshoot curtain?

As I have explained before, Obamacare’s grand scheme is to reduce medical care costs by demanding that insurance companies only pay for those treatments, drugs and devices which are found to work in a majority of cases. For those outliers who need highly-customized care, you are pretty much on your own.

Here is an easy-to-read chart to help you understand the process of delivering healthcare based on statistical norms. As you can plainly see, this is a normal bell curve that may be used to establish care parameters.

“The Methodology Committee has the responsibility of helping PCORI develop and update methodological standards and guidance for comparative clinical effectiveness research. The men and women named today bring impressive credentials and experience to this important task,” Dodaro said.

“The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act authorized PCORI as a non-profit corporation to assist patients, clinicians, purchasers, and policymakers in making informed health decisions by providing quality, relevant evidence on how best to prevent, diagnose, treat, and monitor diseases and other health conditions.”

Of course, “best” does not always mean cost-effective nor what is “best” for individuals as opposed to the collective population.

So who is behind the curtain …

The members appointed to the Methodology Committee are:

• Naomi Aronson, PhD, Executive Director, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association Technology Evaluation Center.

• Ethan Basch, MD, MSc, medical oncologist and health services researcher, Department of Medicine and Department of Epidemiology, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

• Alfred Berg, MD, MPH, Professor, Department of Family Medicine, University of Washington.

• David Flum, MD, MPH, Professor, Department of Surgery and Adjunct Professor, Department of Health Services, University of Washington Schools of Medicine and Public Health; Attending physician, General Surgery, University of Washington Medical Center.

• Sherine Gabriel, MD, MSc, Professor of Medicine and of Epidemiology, and the William J. and Charles H. Mayo Professor, Mayo Clinic.

• Steven Goodman, MD, PhD, Professor of Oncology, of Pediatrics, of Epidemiology and of Biostatistics, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Bloomberg School of Public Health.

• Mark Helfand, MD, MS, MPH, Professor of Medicine and of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology, Oregon Health & Science University; Staff physician, Portland VA Medical Center.

• John Ioannidis, MD, DSc, the C.F. Rehnborg Professor in Disease Prevention, Professor of Medicine and Director, Stanford Prevention Research Center, Stanford University School of Medicine.

• David Meltzer, MD, PhD, Director, Center for Health and the Social Sciences, Chief of the Section of Hospital Medicine, and Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, Department of Economics, and Graduate School of Public Policy Studies, University of Chicago.

• Brian Mittman, PhD, Director, VA Center for Implementation Practice and Research Support, Department of Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.

• Robin Newhouse, PhD, RN, Assistant Dean, Doctor of Nursing Practice Program and Associate Professor, Organizational Systems and Adult Health, University of Maryland School of Nursing.

• Sharon-Lise Normand, MSc, PhD, Professor of Health Care Policy, Harvard Medical School and Professor of Biostatistics, Harvard School of Public Health.

• Sebastian Schneeweiss, MD, ScD, Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Associate Professor, Department of Epidemiology, Harvard School of Public Health; Vice Chief and Director, Drug Evaluation and Outcomes Research, Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics, Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

• Mary Tinetti, MD, Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology, and Public Health, Division of Geriatrics, Yale University School of Medicine; Director, Program on Aging, Yale University School of Medicine.

• Clyde Yancy, MD, MSc, Chief, Cardiology, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine; Associate Director, The Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Remember this is only the prestigious leadership of the committee, the actual work will be conducted by staffers who will rely heavily on research conducted by others and possibly “outsourced” research grants to some of the very organizations that are represented on the board. In fact, no one can determine the actual amount of committee work that will be performed by these “busy” professionals.

What the heck is “epidemiology?”

Since the word is repeatedly found in the job titles of the committee members, I think it would be helpful to understand that that the field represents the intersection of medicine and statistics for the purposes of setting social policy.

Epidemiology is considered the basic science of public health, and with good reason.

Epidemiology is:

a) a quantitative basic science built on a working knowledge of probability, statistics, and sound research methods;

b) a method of causal reasoning based on developing and testing hypotheses pertaining to occurrence and prevention of morbidity and mortality; and

c) a tool for public health action to promote and protect the public’s health based on science,
causal reasoning, and a dose of practical common sense <Source: CDC)

However, the major flaws of “epidemiology” lie in the selection of subjects to be studied, the inherent bias of the researchers proposing and conducting the study and the inherent flaw of confusing correlation with causation. But the greatest flaw is simply that the science intersects with the corrupting influence of politics and the need to produce solutions which are based on – not science – but political calculations of the administration in power. An administration which controls both the funding and staffing of a research organization’s leadership. And as we have seen in the global warming scheme, previously honorable, well-credentialed, scientists at prestigious institutions can be corrupted by politics and the quest for personal fame and fortune.

Dealing with “conflicts of interest …”

In addition to the natural conflicts of interest arising from political interests controlling the committee, it is somewhat interesting to see that the Administration has noted that there will be conflicts of interest and plans to deal with them the same way physicians and scientists deal with research sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry. By disclosure, rather than prohibiting such conflicts. After all, who wants to limit the flow of money in the system?

“The Comptroller General is required to disclose any conflicts of interest on GAO’s website.”

Some of the already listed conflicts look like:

  • Received consulting fees between 5,000 and $15,000 from: Aspen BioPharma, Inc., as a member of its Medical Advisory Board.
  • Spouse is employed by Group Health Cooperative, Seattle, WA.
  • Spouse receives royalties of more than $50,000 from Hoffman-LaRoche LTD, Roche-Diagnostics.
  • Received consulting fees of between $15,001 and $50,000 from: Blue Cross-Blue Shield Association, as a Scientific Advisor to its Medical Advisory Panel, Technical Assessment Program
  • Investments between $10,001 and $50,000 in: Aetna Inc.
  • Also employed by: Sepulveda Research Corporation
  • Received consulting fees between $5000 and $15,000 from: Washington University in St. Louis; University of California at Los Angeles; RAND Corporation; Institute for Healthcare Improvement; University of Iowa (estimated amount in 2011)
  • Received consulting fees between $15,001 and $50,000 from Westat, Inc.

To be fair, we are not saying that these researchers are already tainted, but we are saying that there is always the possibility that these researchers will promote that which they know the best or advocate for outcomes that will benefit certain industries – not unlike highly-paid lobbyists are employed to influence political decisions.

Bottom line …

Obamacare is more about politics than it is providing healthcare services to American citizens.

Proof of this assertion can be found in the fact that Medicare and Medicaid have been politically manipulated by industry lobbyists for years and that the waste, fraud and corruption which every party condemns continue to rise unabated by government action. Not to mention all of the special deals which were cut by Congress to secure the votes of legislators or the special deals allowing certain states and organizations for legislators to opt-out of the legislation’s provisions – or the original deals cut with the pharmaceutical industry, the insurance industry, the medical equipment suppliers and others – to moderate their opposition to Obamacare.

Talk about a conflict of interests? Not to mention the machinations of the Administration and Congress in the blatantly dishonest method of costing care under the 2000+ page bill which no one read and could understand – presented with hardly enough time to even begin reading the legislation or understanding that this was a 2000+ page outline of bureaus, panels and commissions to be created. And not to mention the tremendous discretionary powers given to the Administration through the politically-appointed Secretary of Heath and Human Services.

One should also consider the Marxist influence on the democrat party which developed this healthcare plan with the assistance of far-left foundations. There are inherent conflicts of interests in pursuing a political ideology which is based on collectivism rather than individualism and an ideology which views the population as units to be managed and controlled.

I would also like to mention that a decline in healthcare in America would also financially benefit the government through reduced costs in the last stages of a senior’s life, where much of the medical intervention funds are actually spent.

It is my opinion that Obamacare presents a clear and present danger to American citizens. The simple fact that in the human population, there are outliers (people outside the norms) who may be condemned to suffering or death based on providing services to the greatest number of people. Not to mention the necessity for the denial, delay and death-enhancing alternatives that are the natural consequence of a system forced to accommodate millions of new patients without a corresponding increase in facilities, physicians, diagnostic equipment and medical devices.

Why would any rational person, a believer in science, statistics and the delivery of decent healthcare destroy a system which serves 85% of the American population in order to add coverage for an additional 12% – and most of them illegal aliens?

Why would any freedom-loving American cede control over every aspect of their lives by allowing the government to link almost any facet of living, including finances, employment, nutrition, education and other critical areas to the delivery of healthcare?

But the real bottom line, as I have said on numerous occasions is …

Capture

GE Power Play Payback: Jeffrey Immelt named to Obama Economic Advisory Board

It appears that General Electric’s strategy for overcoming the economic catastrophe which is swirling around us is to kiss President Obama’s butt and put the significant resources of General Electric at the Administration’s disposal.

GE: Doing business with our enemies?

"The revenue that is generated from the work that these companies are doing, we believe, helps to underwrite and support terrorism,” says William Thompson, the New York City comptroller who oversees the $80 billion in pension funds for all city workers.

He says he wants everyone with a retirement or investment portfolio to know what these companies are up to: “We're going to increase the public visibility on this issue until these companies change their practices.”

He’s actually identified specific companies that have invested in these rogue countries, including Halliburton, Conoco-Phillips and General Electric. And he points out that New York's pension funds own nearly $1 billion worth of stock in these three Fortune 500 companies, which have operations in Iran and Syria.

In fact, U.S. law does ban virtually all commerce with the rogue nations, but there's a loophole that G.E., Conoco-Phillips and Halliburton have exploited: The law does not apply to any foreign or offshore subsidiary so long as it is run by non-Americans. <Source: 60 Minutes>

Supporting Obama and stifling dissent?

THE top suits and some of the on-air talent at CNBC were recently ordered to a top-secret meeting with General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt and NBC Universal President Jeff Zucker to discuss whether they've turned into the President Obama-bashing network, Page Six has learned.

"It was an intensive, three-hour dinner at 30 Rock which Zucker himself was behind," a source familiar with the powwow told us. "There was a long discussion about whether CNBC has become too conservative and is beating up on Obama too much. There's great concern that CNBC is now the anti-Obama network. The whole meeting was really kind of creepy." <Source>

Rewards for supporting the Administration?

Tarp bailout …

General Electric, the world's largest industrial company, has quietly become the biggest beneficiary of one of the government's key rescue programs for banks.

At the same time, GE has avoided many of the restrictions facing other financial giants getting help from the government.

The company did not initially qualify for the program, under which the government sought to unfreeze credit markets by guaranteeing debt sold by banking firms. But regulators soon loosened the eligibility requirements, in part because of behind-the-scenes appeals from GE. <Source>

Global warming …

General Electric's new environmental push, dubbed "Ecomagination," features a TV commercial showing an elephant so animated by the industrial giant's clean technology he dances to "Singin' in the Rain." GE can claim some fancy footwork, indeed, since its high-profile plan to cut its own greenhouse-gas emissions and boost environmental technology spending, along with similar recent moves by key businesses, has begun to shift the political landscape in favor of action on climate change.

Prior to GE's green PR blitz, chief executives of three of the nation's largest utilities also said carbon regulation was inevitable, with proposals ranging from a carbon tax to emissions caps. However, Immelt was careful not to endorse any specific proposal when he said GE would double its investment in technologies that help its customers--including the big utilities--produce fewer emissions.

But he frankly admitted the goal was not altruistic, as the company aimed to double its revenue from clean technology to at least $20 billion in 2010. "We think green means green," Immelt said. "This is a time period where environmental improvement is going to lead toward profitability. This is not a hobby to make people feel good." Federal carbon standards, for example, would create more demand for GE technologies in wind power, natural gas turbines, cutting-edge coal gasification, and, most controversial, nuclear power plants.  <Source>

Regulatory approval of  sale of assets to Comcast …

FCC, Justice approve Comcast and NBC joint venture

Federal regulators on Tuesday approved Comcast's acquisition of NBC Universal, allowing for a joint venture that puts a vast library of television shows and movies under the control of the nation's biggest cable and broadband Internet service provider.

The Justice Department also announced its approval of the deal with conditions aimed at keeping Comcast-NBCU from quashing competition from other networks and Internet providers.

In a 4-to-1 vote, the Federal Communications Commission determined the deal was in the nation's public interest and assigned a number of conditions to the venture to ensure that Comcast shares content with cable competitors and gives other networks fair access to its customers. <Source>

Personal Payback?

The Los Angeles Times is reporting …

“Obama names GE's Jeffrey Immelt to new economic advisory board”

“President Obama used a visit to a GE plant in upstate New York to outline a new mission for his economic team, a shift from economic rescue into ‘overdrive’ spurred in part by a ramping up of American exports.”

“The event at the birthplace of GE also served as the introduction of the company's CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, as the leader of Obama's new Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. It will replace the Economic Recovery Advisory Board he created two years ago after taking office.”

As with Obama and his Administration, it is all about re-branding failed initiatives. To remove references that might be used to highlight the Administration’s significant failure to govern and to serve as a convenience way to shift the blame to “those guys over there.”

Personal Re-branding: camouflage for when Obama leaves office?

While Ronald Reagan had a substantial relationship with General Electric …

“From 1954 to 1962, Ronald Reagan served as host of a popular Sunday evening television program called General Electric Theater. During that time he also spent ten weeks each year traveling the country as GE's roving ambassador. By the time the show concluded its eight-year run, Ronald Reagan, by his own account, had visited 139 GE research and manufacturing facilities. He walked the plant floors, toured offices and met over 250,000 individual employees, honing his renowned communications skills and leaving a unique legacy that continues to inspire our company today. <Source>

it galls me to see that …

Jeffrey Immelt is significantly involved in celebrating the life of a person who is denigrated at every term by the marxist-influenced democrat party and specifically by the Marxist-in-Chief, President Obama.

“The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation will host a series of events to honor the life and legacy of President Ronald Reagan over his centennial birthday weekend.”

February 5: Concert for America – a Tribute to Ronald Reagan

Event Location: The Air Force One Pavilion at the Reagan Library
Event Time:  7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation is hosting a concert comprised of live music and in-person and video tributes from world leaders and prominent individuals whose lives were impacted by the legacy of President Reagan.”

Live Tribute by: Jeff Immelt

February 6: Official Birthday Celebration for Ronald Wilson Reagan

9:20 a.m. – Foundations of a Great Communicator Gallery Ribbon Cutting with GE -- Remarks by Jeffrey Immelt

Birthday Program Ceremony from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to include remarks by Jeffrey Immelt

Bottom line …

While I can understand a corporation playing to the Administration to insure its immediate financial future, I find it personally disgusting that a Chief Executive Officer of an American Corporation who openly and wholeheartedly supported the most marxist of democrats is trying to position himself as something other than a marxist sympathizer.

I miss Jack Welch and his honest observations and no-nonsense policies …

While guest hosting Wednesday’s "Morning Joe", former General Electric CEO Jack Welch condemned global warming, the very theory MSNBC has been peddling for years. GE, of course, owns MSNBC; the rebuke of MSNBC’s favorite alarmist hypothesis came in a segment where hosts share noteworthy editorials. Welch decided to share an opinion piece from Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal aptly titled "Global Warming As Mass Neurosis." Welch informed the audience that the article has "a lot of technical numbers here to show you that NASA overstated what's happening." Welch summarized the article by saying "And they got an argument that states that global warming is the attack on capitalism that socialism couldn't bring.” To read more of this fascinating story … <Source>

But most of all, I miss “honest brokers” in industry and government that tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Californians: Here is the antidote to Rinos like Schwarzenegger and democrats like Jerry Brown ...

There is no doubt in my mind that California's marxist-dominated democrat legislature has created a nightmare worthy of the democrat-controlled federal government. Duplicating the mechanisms of the federal government to allow California to go it alone to cure hypothetical "global warming" and bringing healthcare to millions of uncovered aliens. And when they are not solving global problems at the expense of the California taxpayer-citizens, they are attempting to micromanage the California economy to the detriment of producing individuals and corporations. Therefore it is important for all Californians to view this video.

Here is an elected official with the right idea ...

Bottom line ...

Unless there are brave, conservative legislators to serve as honest brokers for "We the People," California will be doomed to another worker's paradise such as those found in Cuba and Venezuela. A Nuevo Mexico complete with oligarchs and their special interest pals.

GLOBAL WARMING: A DAY OF RECKONING APPROACHES ...

Scientists, by the very nature, are good record keepers … especially of data that supports their hypothesis and can bring personal fame and fortune; not to mention greater prestige to their institutional sponsors and additional funding and project opportunities.

To think that computer models were deliberately compromised by using poor assumptions, poor statistical techniques, sloppy programming and highly manipulated and cherry-picked data is almost to think the unthinkable. Until you add the tremendous amount of research money being poured into institutions, facilities and science projects all based on a hypothesis that man-made (anthropogenic) global warming and that a rise in carbon dioxide levels were wreaking observable havoc on the dynamics of planetary climate. And the development of an unholy alliance between politicians hell-bent on promoting their political ideologies on a world reluctant to accept the Marxist principles of population control, wealth re-distribution and the dissolution of national sovereignty. Using a faux-crisis that existed nowhere on Earth except in the silicon minds of computer models developed by all-too-human scientists seduced by the fame and fortune into telling the politicians exactly what they wanted to hear.

Even the “peer review” process of preparing scientific articles for publication in prestigious scientific was perverted and sold the the public as somehow confirming the findings of individual scientists – even when it did nothing more than dot the I’s and cross the T’s.

The first real hard-evidence of the promotion of extreme global warming outcomes on the planet and the potential manipulation of the scientific process was revealed when a tranche of e-mails from one of the world’s most credible research institutions was released to the Internet. Providing a glimpse of vain scientists defending their work, manipulating their findings, structuring research to produce pre-ordained conclusions and to silence any opposition that noted that the “Emperor Has No Clothes.”

The politicians are determined to kill any investigation, much as Nixon tried to contain Watergate …

In what has become to be named “Climate-gate,” the politicians, institutions, scientists and special interests who benefited from the billions of taxpayer dollars spent on pursuing a pipedream are trying to kill any investigation which can prove, not that global temperatures normally rise after a mini-ice age, but that this money was spent prudently and without waste, fraud and mismanagement. Somewhat of an impossible task if you consider any large-scale government operation.

We should be thanking Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for his attempt to discover the truth about what appears to be a wide-spread global warming scheme that has resulted in billions of stolen taxpayer dollars and the potential for the political character of America to be compromised by those politicians wishing to control our economy through the control of energy production, allocation and usage.

As reported by Investors.com …

“Yes, Virginia, A Climate Cover-Up”

Democrats in Virginia are trying to stop their attorney general from probing climate fraud carried out by university researchers at taxpayer expense. Are they afraid of finding the inconvenient truth?”

Why the democrats you may ask? Because global warming appears to be an invention of those Marxist-infiltrated environmentalists who seem to have grabbed control of the democrat party – providing campaign funds and voter support in return for the promotion and protection of their anti-American political ideology.

A cover up?

“It's not the crime, it's the cover-up, as the saying goes. In the case of former University of Virginia climate scientist Michael Mann and his supporters, it may be both. Not only did Mann participate in perhaps the greatest scam of modern times, but he may have also have fraudulently used taxpayer funds to do so.”

“At least Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli thinks so, and has been diligently trying to obtain from U.Va. documents and e-mails related to Mann's work there. Mann reportedly received around $500,000 from taxpayer-funded grants from the university for research there from 1999 to 2005.”

“Cuccinelli is alleging a possible violation of a 2002 statute, the Virginia Fraud Against Taxpayers Act. The AG has said that he wants the documents, including grant applications and e-mails exchanged between Mann and 39 other scientists and university staffers, to help determine whether Mann committed fraud by knowingly manipulating data as he sought the taxpayer-funded grants for his research.”

“Mann was at the heart of the ClimateGate scandal when e-mails were unearthed from Britain's Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. In one e-mail sent to Mann and others by CRU director Philip Jones, Jones speaks of the ‘trick’ of filling in gaps of data in order to hide evidence of temperature decline:

"I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (i.e. from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline." It was that attempt to ‘hide the decline’ through the manipulation of data that brought down the global warming house of cards.”

Perhaps Mann was trying to preserve his reputation which would be somewhat shattered if his famous assertion that the global temperature was continually rising and could approach new records which spelled disaster, chaos, disease, dislocation, death and destruction for the planet. A scary thought picked up by the media to whip up a crisis – a crisis drastic enough to distract and misdirect cooler heads from questioning the political solution to the Al Gore’s approaching planet-threatening climate catastrophe.

“Mann was the architect behind the famous ‘"hockey stick’ graph that was produced in 1999 but which really should be called the ‘hokey stick.’ Developed by Mann using manipulated tree-ring data, it supposedly proved that air temperatures had been stable for 900 years, then soared off the charts in the 20th century.”

“Mann et al. had to make the Medieval Warm Period (about A.D. 800 to 1400) and the Little Ice Age (A.D. 1600 to 1850) statistically disappear.”

Size does matter …

“The graph relied on data from trees on the Yamal Peninsula in Siberia. Here, too, the results were carefully selected. Just 12 trees from the 252 cores in the CRU's Yamal data set were used. A larger data set of 34 tree cores from the vicinity showed no dramatic recent warming, and warmer temperatures in the middle ages. They were not included.”

Consider the implications. Twelve Russian trees were used to develop a hypothesis of catastrophic global warming that demanded a larger government, more unionized-bureaucracy, higher taxes and lesser freedoms for the citizens who sweated to pay for the benefits of an international ruling elite governing a newly-privileged bureaucratic class.

“Attempting to block Cuccinelli and rising to Mann's defense are Virginia state senators Chap Petersen and Donald McEachin. They are backing legislation that would strip the attorney general's office of its power to issue ‘civil investigative demands,’ otherwise known as subpoenas, under the 2002 statute.”

It should be noted that democrats Petersen and McEachin both refuse to answer correspondence from anyone other than their constituents – although they could have a positive influence in returning scientific integrity in global climate research to the world and some measure of academic and political integrity to the system.

Academic fraud …

“They claim they are defending academic freedom, but they are trying to hide what many consider academic fraud, work that found its way into the reports of the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It led to Kyoto and Copenhagen, and formed the basis for the EPA's endangerment finding that carbon dioxide is a pollutant that needs to be regulated.”

Science demands skepticism. Science demands alternative theories and explanations. But above all, science demands the adherence to the scientific process which provides checks-and-balances to prevent errors. Instead of an “open” scientific process, Mann and others conspired to withhold or destroy critical datasets. They claimed that access to the data was privileged by contracts and agreements. They did everything in their power to prevent the replication of their research findings and the refutation which is a normal part of the scientific method.

“After Mann left U.Va., he went to Penn State, which the Obama administration awarded with $541,184 in economic stimulus funds to save, according to recovery.gov, 1.62 jobs so that Professor Mann could continue his tree-ring circus fraudulently advancing the myth of man-made global warming that through equally bogus remedies like cap-and-trade and EPA regulations would bring the U.S. economy to its knees.”

“In a glaringly arrogant e-mail, Mann said he was grateful to the legislators for pressing the issue and hoped the action would give Cuccinelli ‘some second thoughts about continuing to waste their time and resources attacking well-established science.’ Hide the decline, then hide the truth.”

Even democrat-controlled Congress was complicit in the cover-up; refusing to allow well-credential scientists and others like Lord Christopher Monckton to testify in open opposition of hand-picked scientists or even to ask them questions – with the proceedings under oath.

The science is not well-established and there is not an overwhelming consensus of scientists willing to testify under oath that the science is settled. One merely need to ask them about the effects of the largest greenhouse gas, water vapor, and watch them dissemble. Or to ask about the natural feedback loop of atmospheric carbon dioxide and the carbon dioxide dissolved in the oceans. – Being sure to point out that the rise in carbon dioxide concentrations lags the rise in global temperatures by 600 – 1000 years depending on the dataset used. Thus it can hardly be defined as causal.

Bottom line …

It is natural to expect temperatures to rise after a mini-ice-age. But how fast and how much are beyond our ability to scientifically discern at this point in time.

Before we cede our freedoms to a burgeoning and privileged political class and their bureaucratic minions, we must investigate both the politicians and the scientists who have attempted to pass this fraudulent scheme on America and its citizens.

But above all, we need to realize that nature is vast, complex and often chaotic – and that measuring the mean global temperatures which fall within a band of a single degree Celsius is not only fraught with error, but the results are well within nature’s inherent variability.

It is time to tell the democrats to step off and take back our country from those who are deliberately bankrupting the nation and introducing chaos into our civilization – all for the purpose of proposing a limited freedom Marxist system on America – the only impediment to a Marxist world.
