Character, not politics: people want to know if I respect any liberal democrats ...
One of my friends recently challenged me to find a single liberal democrat who I respected and trusted. It really wasn’t all that difficult because there are so few in this country. And none of them are office-seeking or office-holding politicians.
The first name that comes to mind is Kenneth Feinberg, whose liberal democrat credentials are beyond reproach. A person who might foster a visceral negative response upon hearing that he is both a lawyer and who served as the Chief of Staff for the late Senator Ted Kennedy; a man I despised as a drunk, a lecher and a killer of a young innocent woman to save his political career. In short, Feinberg is a liberal democrat’s dream.
Unlike most democrats, he is not an ideologue and has a demonstrated history of plain talk, honesty and fair dealing. An exceptional man functioning among political shysters and corrupt politicians.
Consider a few of his past accomplishments involving the oversight, adjudication and distribution of claims for high-profile, big-money cases …
- September 11 Victim Compensation Fund
- Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund associated with the Virginia Tech massacre.
- Special Master for Executive Compensation (Pay Czar)
- BP Oil Spill Fund
And while individuals may have a grievance with the system, most find that Feinberg sets the rules in an open and honest manner and then forges ahead in a highly emotional area. He is not beyond personal appeal and listening to an individual’s story.
True, he has caused some degree of pain with what some describe as a ruthless and calculating method for placing a value on the loss of human life, pain and suffering. But, truth-be-told, someone has to draw the line somewhere. And to Feinberg’s credit, he not only draws the line, he explains how and why the line was drawn. An exceptional man.
With his quick learning curve and commonsense abilities, one would think that he would make the perfect politician. Unfortunately, I believe that he would be destroyed in the process. Refusing to kowtow to the special interests who want to purchase his influence with a wink-and-a-nod.
Bottom line …
Even though he is a lawyer, and an advocate for his clients, there is no doubt in my mind that Kenneth Feinberg is a man of uncommon rectitude and conviction. Even though he is described as a liberal democrat, I would not hesitate to vote for him in a heartbeat.
I believe that this is a man who should be an exemplar of the democrat party, should they ever shed their mantle of corrupt self-interest and Marxism and return to a Constitutional approach to governing in the name of all Americans. Something I do not believe will happen in my lifetime or Ken Feinberg’s lifetime.
As they say, he should live long and prosper.
