Obamacare: Democrats, the party of lawyers, screws the public in favor of the lawyers …

If anyone cares to read the 1990-page Pelosi draft of Obamacare, they may want to read page 1431 to 1433 …

BigGovernment.com is reporting …

“Section 2531, entitled ‘Medical Liability Alternatives,’ establishes an incentive program for states to adopt and implement alternatives to medical liability litigation. [But]…… a state is not eligible for the incentive payments if that state puts a law on the books that limits attorneys’ fees or imposes caps on damages.”

“So, you can’t try to seek alternatives to lawsuits if you’ve actually done something to implement alternatives to lawsuits. Brilliant! The trial lawyers must be very happy today!”

Obamacare is not about healthcare, it’s about political control of the system …

If the Obama Administration were anything but the far-left radical ideologues and political whores they seem to be, we would see legislative initiatives to implement tort reform, remove state barriers on insurance coverage to enhance competition and produce wider insurance risk pools by allowing anyone to purchased pooled insurance, regardless of their employer.

Consider the legislative folly of the COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) insurance plan which almost guarantees that sick employees or those who have pre-existing conditions will knuckle under and pay outrageously expensive insurance premiums, if the can afford them, to continue their medical coverage when they are terminated by their employer. This adverse selection policy insures that an overwhelming number of unhealthy individuals are placed in smaller insurance pools while the healthier people simply accept their dropped coverage as they look for other employment. If insurance were nationwide and not dependent on employment, these higher risk people could be comfortably accommodated in larger insurance pools to spread the risks. Everyone wins – except the insurance company faces smaller profits due to the inability to jack up rates for small business employers and increased competition. An example of self-serving politicians working for the benefit of special interests to secure campaign funding, voter support and jobs for their friends.

Bottom line …

The democrat party, now run by far-left radicals and activists reward their traditional supporters, the lawyers, lobbyists and special interests, with a continual windfall of fees from often outrageous medical malpractice lawsuits – suits which are sometimes settled, even when no malpractice has occured, in order to avoid time and expense of a trial – not to mention the possibility of an outrageously inappropriate jury award.

We, the people, should be demanding tort reform and a cap on those outrageous attorneys fees. Instead we get Obamacare that insures that big paydays for attorneys and the malpractice insurance industry will continue to drive up costs.

Be well, be safe and take care of yourself and your family first.

CONSERVATISM RESONATES WITH GOP: Scozzafava suspends NY 23rd District Campaign (Updated)

UPDATE (01)11-01-09 PROOF YOU CAN'T TRUST A LIBERAL --  Scozzafava ENDORSES DEMOCRAT OVER CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN

From the Washington Independent ...

"In a bit of a surprise, ex-NY-23 candidate Dede Scozzafava has endorsed her former rival, Democratic candidate Bill Owens. The decisions comes shortly after her husband endorsed Owens, and only a little more than a day after she quit the race after polls showed her collapsing into third place behind Owens and Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman."

When it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, why is the leadership so damn surprised when their candidate turns out to be a duck. Turning her back on her party and endorsing the opposition. Those party leaders who lack the balls to throw Scozzafava out of the Republican Party should resign their posts at once.

Original Blog Post ...

The battle was clear:  Traditionalists in the Republican Party leadership picked  the most liberal RINO (Republican In Name Only)  they could find in the hopes that they could attract enough independent and blue-dog democrat votes to win the race. They placed politics over principle and were greatly dismayed when conservative Republicans refused to support their candidate. Even Newt Gingrich, self-proclaimed voice of the conservatives endorsed Scozzafava – waffling about how it was important to support the local party leadership who knows best what’s in the party’s best interests.

The traditionalists who strongly believe that the pragmatism of fielding more liberal than conservative candidates will tip the public in the party’s favor are dead wrong. By muddling the message and appearing to be “democrat-lite,” they lose the conservatives who want a  principled conservative political agenda and they lose the independents and blue-dog democrats who can’t decipher their mushy message which appears to be the same as the democrats running in the race.

Encouraged …

Not that the conservatives should get complacent, but  it appears that conservatism may have won another victory when Scozzafava announced the suspension of her campaign and the leadership of the Republican Party, political whores that they are, announced that they would support conservative Doug Hoffman against the democrat challenger. At this point in time, Scozzafava has not endorsed Hoffman other than to make this campaign statement.

In her own words …

Dear Friends and Supporters:

Throughout the course of my campaign for Congress, I have made the people of the 23rd District and the issues that affect them the focal point of my campaign. As a life long resident of this District, I care deeply and passionately about its people and our way of life. Whether as a candidate for Congress, a State Assemblywoman or a small town Mayor, I have always sought to act with the best interest of our District and its residents in mind—and today I again seek to act for the good of our community.

The opportunity to run as the Republican and Independence Party candidate to represent the 23rd District has been and remains one of the greatest honors of my life. During the past several months, as I’ve traveled the district, meeting and talking with voters about the issues that matter most to them, I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of support I’ve received as I sought to serve as their voice in Washington. However, as Winston Churchill once said, Democracy can be a fickle employer, and the road to public office is not always a smooth one.

In recent days, polls have indicated that my chances of winning this election are not as strong as we would like them to be. The reality that I’ve come to accept is that in today’s political arena, you must be able to back up your message with money—and as I’ve been outspent on both sides, I’ve been unable to effectively address many of the charges that have been made about my record. But as I’ve said from the start of this campaign, this election is not about me, it’s about the people of this District. And, as always, today I will do what I believe serves their interests best.

It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so. I am and have always been a proud Republican. It is my hope that with my actions today, my Party will emerge stronger and our District and our nation can take an important step towards restoring the enduring strength and economic prosperity that has defined us for generations.
On Election Day my name will appear on the ballot, but victory is unlikely. To those who support me – and to those who choose not to – I offer my sincerest thanks.

Dede

Although I would have preferred the ideological fight and positioning to have taken place prior to her name appearing on the ballot, it is always welcome to see a sign of a potential rebirth of the Republican Party along the lines of Reagan conservatism.

Once more our nation is in peril, facing the aftermath of a negligent Republican administration whose profligate spending, inept and incompetent cronyism, and  tolerance of relaxed regulatory standards is now magnified by a current Administration which seems hell-bent on subverting the Constitution, promoting a radical socialist agenda, spending the United States into bankruptcy and who is also giving a regulatory pass to those financial firms who jeopardized the safety and security of our economy. The pain and suffering of the people: with a continual rise in the unemployment, the lessening of investment yields and a financial system seemingly run by and for the financial establishment is now pushing people into principled conservatism. The government is not the solution, it is the problem. And we need to resolve these issues by first electing principled politicians to office – sweeping all of the current people from office. It is time that we took back our government from the complacent and corrupt asshats on both sides of the aisle.

Let us hope that Doug Hoffman wins this election – demonstrating that there is another road to success and that road is not appeasement to those who deny the conservative political principles of Ronald Reagan.

Spin all you want, this may be the start of the turning point in Republican politics.

Be well, be safe and take care of yourself and your family first.

Urging Netanyahu to embrace Obamaism ...

There is no denying that many Jews have more than a flirtation with socialism, Marxism and communism and that American Jews voted predominately with the left-leaning democratic party. So why should I be surprised when an Israeli columnist, in a left-leaning Israeli publication, openly urges a hard-charging traditionalist like  Benjamin Netanyahu to become more Obama-like: rejecting the notion of Israeli exceptionalism and altering his worldview to a more universal stance?

To understand the author’s viewpoint, perhaps a little bit of biography is necessary.

“Professor Carlo Strenger was born in Basel, Switzerland, trained in philosophy and psychology and received his PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
He currently teaches at the psychology department of Tel Aviv University, a member of the Institute of Existential Psychoanalysis, Zurich and of the Permanent Monitoring Panel on Terrorism of the World Federation of Scientists.”

“Strenger's research focuses on the topics of the development of individuality and the impact of Globalization on personal identity and he frequently lectures and conducts seminars in Europe and the U.S. on his topics of expertise. He has published five books including Individuality, the Impossible Project and The Designed Self, and numerous scientific articles.”

“In recent years, Strenger has felt compelled to take a more active stance on issues that matter to him, primarily the defense of individual liberty, the intellectual level of public discourse, and the striving for a sane solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

For all intents and purposes, I regard Strenger as a leftist, one of the socially-concerned “intellectual” elites who are driving much of the discussion on individual rights and globalism. And, of course, I also think Strenger is an indication of what is wrong with Israel as well as America.

Strenger writes …

“What Netanyahu can give himself, and Israel, for his 60th birthday”

“Benjamin Netanyahu celebrated his sixtieth birthday last week, and this might be a good moment for him to reflect on his future. He has shown that he can change up to a certain point. Unlike his first term as prime minister in the 1990s, he no longer believes that it is his sacred missions to attack Israel's ‘elites’ (basically those in academia and the press who disagree with him), and instead sees them as potential allies.”

“But in certain respects Netanyahu's worldview has remained stagnant. Netanyahu, like most of us, thinks that beliefs that he formulated early in his career and propounded for decades must be true. He keeps harping on the theme Israel is the West's outpost in the Middle East, fighting the war of civilization against the forces of darkness. His worldview is a combination of his father's ideas that he has adopted uncritically and the old Jewish exceptionalism complex.”

Perhaps, Strenger should realize that Israel is exceptional. Totally surrounded by enemies with hostile intent, Israelis – both collectively and individually – have managed to bring freedom to a part of the world in which 12th-century barbarism, despotism and the abuse of human rights is commonplace. Israel has an outstanding record of advancing humanity while fending off the forces of darkness that seek to erase Israel from the face of the Earth. Strenger would be hard-pressed to find any comparable contributions to humanity from Israel’s neighbors without reaching back centuries. So I believe Strenger’s fundamental outlook is both flawed and skewed towards the far-left.

“There is a lot of evidence that people can change at his age, not least in politics. Begin, Rabin, Peres and Sharon made central changes in their political worldviews late in their career. It is high time for Netanyahu to realize that his worldview is in need of a total overhaul. He is behaving like the tired driver in the joke who, entering the highway, turns on the radio. Suddenly there is an announcement: "Warning, there is a car driving on the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway in the wrong direction." He looks around and says. ‘What are they talking about? There are hundreds of cars driving in the wrong direction.’"

Here Strenger takes a page out of the Saul Alinsky playbook and tries to marginalize and trivialize Netanyahu’s point of view. To portray him as hopelessly out of date – and irrelevant in modern times.

If Netanyahu is so convinced that Israel represents the Western world, how come the whole Free World (a better term than "West" to denote the countries committed to liberal democracy) thinks otherwise? Could it be that not the Free World is headed in the wrong direction, but that Netanyahu is? And could it be that this is why the world doesn't take it well, when he lectures them on the forces of civilization and the powers of darkness?”

Perhaps better questions might be: Could it be that that Israel’s neighbors, the majority of the members in the United Nations, and other radical activists are more than tinged with anti-Semitism? Could it be that the freedom and respect for human rights in Israel are an anathema to the dictators, despots, thugs, Marxists and communists who want to enslave entire populations and subject them to a ruling elite comprised of the so-called “intelligentsia?” Could it be that people like Strenger are being socially manipulated by smarter and more ruthless people who use foolish “tools” to encourage strong nations to breach their own sovereignty and to weaken their economy and military to allow an easier conquest by foreign sovereign powers?

“In his address to the President's conference last week, Netanyahu reiterated his call for Israel to be a light upon the nations. In doing so, he continues the line that we are the chosen people meant to show the rest of the world the light.”

Great shades of Ronald Reagan and his “shining city on a hill.” What is wrong with providing a sterling example of freedom, human rights, capitalism and individualism? Leading by example rather than dictating terms and conditions? That is, unless you are opposed to the ideals of unconditional freedom and human rights. Or that you believe that the people need a strong leader to dictate how they should live their lives. Or you believe that you are so intellectually superior as to make it a foregone conclusion that you and your cohorts should be the leaders, ruling instead of governing.

The far-left line …

There's just one tiny problem: the rest of the world really doesn't think that we have much to teach them when it comes to morality, and they certainly not that we should show them the light. They are asking for something much simpler: that we behave in a manner that befits the standards of international law, and that we finally realize that we are not God's gift to the world, but a part of the human race with the same rights and the same duties as all others; no less, no more.”

The far left openly promotes multi-culturism,  political correctness and moral equivalency. All tools to assist in erasing individual and collective moral imperatives in favor of a collectivism that discourages exceptional thought and encourages blind obedience to a “enlightened” ruling class.  That there is fundamentally no difference between nation-states like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Libya and Syria – and such other nation-states like Israel and the United States. Is Strenger blind, stupid, crazy or merely intellectually dishonest? It is the very freedom and human rights championed by Israel and the United States that allows Strenger to publicly pontificate on the issues of the day; whereas other nations are no so openly tolerant of any dissent or criticism of their ruling elite.

“Because Netanyahu likes big ideas, I have a suggestion as to how he could replace the outdated paradigm of Israel as the West's representative and humanity's exceptional light to the nations: Netanyahu likes to see himself as the embodiment of progress. He might therefore consider the fact that most modern Jews have dumped Jewish Exceptionalism and endorsed Universalism (four out of five Jews voted for Obama). This majority of Jews is now becoming more vocal, as shown in the emergence of J Street, the new pro-Israel and pro-peace lobby (that Netanyahu's ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren, is choosing to avoid).”

Freedom, human rights and a social, economic and political vibrancy are not outdated paradigms and Israel, as well as the United States, should be viewed as humanity’s exceptional light to the nations. Would it be better that we adopted the repressive policies found in most of the world? How would that benefit and advance humanity?

Saying a cat is a dog, does not make it so …

“There are good reasons for this. In the age of globalization only Universalist worldviews can help all to flourish. Any group's (Jewish, Christian, Muslim) insistence on being special is a recipe for catastrophe.”

Since Strenger mentions specific religions, perhaps we should question why most of the world’s turmoil seems to be associated with Muslim beliefs and their collision with human rights and freedoms? Why should the, as yet unreformed, Muslim religion be given moral equivalency to the Judeo-Christian ethics which speak to a respect for all religions and do not demand adherence to a single religion – promising dire consequences to those who do not submit? Why has the global community, in particular the members of the United Nations, witnessed the genocide of millions of Africans at the hands of despots without so much as raising a hand? Because they have the right to kill their own people – exerting the moral equivalency to Hitler’s Germany, Stalin’s Russia, Pol Pot’s Cambodia? This is prima facie evidence of madness and Strenger’s apparent psychotic break with reality.

A demonstration of craziness – and stupidity …

“Endorsing Universalism is not just a matter of words; it needs to be backed up by deeds. Netanyahu's call to Mahmoud Abbas this week to lead the Palestinians towards peace, for good reasons, has not been met by enthusiasm. Does Netanyahu really expect Abbas to answer his hollow call, when all he does is stall Obama and Mitchell by continuing to build in the territories?”

Stall Obama and Mitchell? I was always under the impression that Israel was a sovereign nation and not a United States territory. Listening to Obama, a man whose mentor was openly anti-Semitic and whose associations with radical Marxists, communists, criminals and unrepentant domestic terrorists is one thing, following his flawed advise is another. Especially when all of the current evidence points to Obama wreaking havoc on the infrastructure of the United States which is destined to weaken its self-defense, economy and military. Truth be told, it is only through the influence of the United States that Israel does not take a far harsher stance on its enemies which continue to lob rockets into Israel on a daily basis. If the United States were to stop supporting Israel, as many suggest is appropriate, the impact of Israel destroying the oil-producing nation’s infrastructure would cripple the United States as well as the nations that attacked Israel.

Why should Palestinians believe that Israel means peace when all they actually see is further expansion of the settlements?”

This is a straw-man argument. Israel has done much to secure a peace in the region. Often met with continued attacks from the very territory it ceded to the opposition as a gesture of peace and goodwill. The Palestinians have been treated like vermin by other Arab nations – perhaps because they continually foment revolution and engage in blackmailing other countries for their sustenance. Why have they not built the necessary infrastructure and commerce to prepare for peace? Why are their internal factions consuming their own resources and killing their own population like a malignant cancer? Why are they not able to recognize Israel’s right to exist? Why don’t they make the first gesture by declaring an unconditional peace, controlling those who would continue the battle of terrorism and extend a hand to Israel? Could the answer reveal the truth: they need conflict to continue to survive and support their corrupt leadership? Could the answer be that they fear that other Arab nations and Iran will cut them off and they will be left without Swiss bank accounts? Perhaps, heaven forbid, to spend their untold millions on the people whom them oppress on a daily basis? A better question should be: why should the world believe that the Palestinians are capable or desirous of peace?

“But what can Netanyahu do, given his coalition? The answer is that he might start thinking big (as he likes to say he does): His government was born in the sin of thinking small. He first pinned himself down by striking deals with his ‘natural’ coalition partners, and making sure that Israel has a foreign minister that diplomats strenuously avoid if they can. He ended up with a coalition whose only grandness is the number of ministers and deputy ministers, that doesn't allow him a single bold move moving towards peace. And, in case he didn't notice, he is exacerbating Israel's isolation in the world.
Rectifying this means to start negotiations with Kadima on a new platform that is genuinely oriented towards peace with the Palestinians. Of course this is likely to cost him the support of Yisrael Beiteinu, but Israel only stands to gain from this. Netanyahu could finally start truly cooperating with Obama and Mitchell rather than playing hide-and-seek and stalling any true progress.

I honestly believe that Benjamin Netanyahu is a transcendent politician who realizes that history would not look kindly upon the man who sold out his country to incur favor with people like Obama and Strenger. Why does Strenger speak like the Palestinians are equal partners to the peace process when, in fact, they are a unilateral force. And they choose to gain political ground by continual terrorism and internal strife. Instead of calling on Israel to compromise, perhaps we should see what the Palestinians are willing to do.

And, of course, I wonder if a Palestinian peace initiative will further contribute to peace in the region. I think not. Iran poses a far greater threat than a hundred Palestinian states. Saudi Arabia continues to spread toxic Whabbism around the world and poses a far greater threat to civilized and peaceful nations than does the Palestinians.

Do I actually believe that Netanyahu is capable of moving from old Jewish Exceptionalism towards Universalism? To start dealing with the Palestinians on the basis of the Universalist principle of seeking true dialogue and avoid petty manipulations? To stop relating to the rest of the world like we used to in the shtetl, when we had no power worth speaking of, trying to fool them all the time - while lecturing them on progress?
I certainly would like to think he can. After all, nobody would have predicted that Menachem Begin, of all people, would sign the peace treaty with Egypt, or Ariel Sharon, of all people, would leave the Gaza Strip. I therefore wish Mr. Netanyahu for his sixtieth birthday to show the world that leaders and nations can change!

Begin had an honorable opponent in Anwar Sadat, a man of honor whose word could be trusted and whose talk was backed with deeds. Sadat, a man who was assassinated and whose country was reviled by his fellow Arabs for making peace with Israel. Who is an honorable and honest broker on the Palestinian side? Who could actually speak for the Palestinians without first getting their talking points from Iran?

As for Sharon, it was a magnificent gesture towards peace. Reciprocated by continued terrorism and violence, launched from the very land that was ceded in the name of Peace.

Never again!

What I wish for Netanyahu’s 60th birthday is that he should live to be 120 and remain vigilant of those of Israel’s enemies, both foreign and domestic, that seek to manipulate public opinion and use Israel’s own laws against her – all for nefarious purposes of hastening the destruction of another  shining city on a hill.

As for Strenger, we should thank him for displaying, in one column, the prevailing opinions of the radical far-left and those who want to destroy a democracy from within with their mushy-headed liberalist policies which feature multi-culturism, political correctness and  moral equivalency.

Happy Birthday Bibi …

GAVIN NEWSOM QUITS: JERRY BROWN FOR GOVERNOR -- HIS BIG LIE?

Now that San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsom has quit his run for California's Governor -- probably to avoid the embarrassment of polling 20-points behind an unannounced candidate and the fact that nobody would contribute to his campaign, we technically have no democrat candidate running for governor. Not that Newsom was a credible candidate given his past actions supporting sanctuary policies which resulted in the death of a husband, a father and his two sons.

Jerry Brown aka “Governor Moonbeam” is, once again, running for governor. Although Brown spent two terms as California’s Governor (1975-1983), he ran before California’s term limits legislation and is now qualified to run again.

Of course, Brown is a lifelong far-left democrat who will continue to advance a radical democrat activist agenda which will virtually turn all of California into Oakland, California – not so coincidently where Brown served as Mayor (1999-2007) leaving in his wake a political cesspool and a continuing crime problem.

Brown’s “BIG LIE?”

In a similar vein to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s now demonstrably false claim that “I’m too rich to be bought by the lobbyists and special interests,” Brown’s supporters claim that he is now OLD enough that running for further political office is unlikely – making him immune to the special interests and more likely to pursue a course of action that is beneficial to California.

We have heard this before – from both sides of the political aisle – mainly from politicians who will do or say anything to get elected. Followed by complacency and corruption. The more things appear to change, the more they really stay the same.

Proof?

As reported by the Sacramento Bee …

“Unions all across the state and country have poured more than a million dollars into Attorney General Jerry Brown's campaign coffers – even though he has yet to officially announce his candidacy.”

“That includes influential statewide bodies such as the California State Council of Labor and the California Nurses Association as well as out-of-state carpenters unions from New York to Honolulu.”

Why would out-of-state unions be pumping money into the campaign of a candidate that has yet to make an official announcement of his candidacy? Could it be because one of the greatest costs facing California relates to soon-to-be-negotiated union employee contracts – and, even worse – the potential necessity of the State of California to bailout the union’s pension funds after major losses in the current financial crisis?

No more democrats …

Democrats and their one-party rule of California (remember Schwarzenegger is a RINO – Republican In Name Only – who votes like a liberal democrat) have ruined California with their profligate spending and social engineering. Failing to repair or replace California’s crumbling infrastructure in favor of providing social benefits to illegal aliens and executing programs that favor special interests. It is the democrats that are willing to destroy some of the most fertile farmland in the nation in favor of a useless three-inch fish – as well as pursue other environmental legislation which is guaranteed to bankrupt California. Perhaps leading to a Mexican-style socialist government which will turn us into Alta-Mexico.

Not to say I would vote for someone like Meg Whitman …

When faced with a choice between two liberals – a liberal democrat and a liberal republican – there is no apparent difference. California will continued to be screwed over by complacent and/or corrupt politicians. Yes, Meg Whitman says all of the right things – sounding just like Arnold Schwarzenegger – but there is no proof that she can actually accomplish her stated goals given a hostile mostly democrat legislature and bureaucracy. Executive ability and the attainment of CEO status does not always translate into effective political programs.

What we need is a conservative …

Truth-be-told, if there was a politician like Jerry Brown’s father, Pat Brown, I probably would vote for them. Pat Brown took the long view – projects that would serve the people for decades. He gave us freeways, unparalleled universities and a host of public works projects. He was a pragmatic politician. But if someone ran as a credible conservative, they would have my vote. Notice I said credible. What we need is a conservative candidate like Doug Hoffman who is upsetting the republican party in New York – a party which chose to run a republican so liberal she could be mistaken for a democrat.

Bottom line …

California has been screwed over by the democrats and to repeat the mistake would have tragic consequence for all Californians. We had a Governor whored out to the unions -- Gray Davis -- why would we want to repeat the mistake?

We need to implement the citizen’s term limits program: not reelecting incumbents, not electing professional politicians and not electing lawyers. We need to elect our friends and neighbors, people like us, that will serve to the best of their ability and then come home when the legislative session ends. Not becoming a part of the Sacramento social scene where souls are lost to lobbyists.

Be well, be safe and take care of yourself and your family first.

-- steve

P.S. There has been some talk of Gavin Newsom joining a Jerry Brown ticket as the Lt. Governor -- who can serve as Governor if the old bastard, Jerry Brown, dies or becomes incapacitated.

AARP: OBAMA’S PROPAGANDA MACHINE?

AARP’s November/December issue carries a full page “Q&A” (Question and Answer) feature titled: Dear Jennie: A message to you from the AARP President.” It is worthwhile to examine how Jennie Chin Hansen, AARP’s Board President deals with this important issue.

Q. Can you assure me that health care reform will not allow government to “pull the plug” on serious ill patients?”

A. Yes, I can. “The simple truth is that every health care reform plan Congress is debating – and any plan AARP will support – ensures that you and your doctor are the only ones who make end-of-life-decisions.

Overlooking the obvious pun of “Yes, I can,” the answer is either an outright lie or a gross distortion of reality.

First, this article was published before Nancy Pelosi released her 1990 page re-write of the Obamacare draft plan which has not been reconciled into its final form and is said to be awaiting further democrat amendments. So there is no way that Hansen can provide such assurances to AARP members because there is no way she can know what will be in the final bill.

Second, much of the actual power to make rules and regulations is conferred on the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the health czars and the heads of yet-unformed boards, commissions and panels. There is no way that Hansen can know what the rulings from the Secretary or these unformed entities might be.

Third, evidence exists that hospitals, both government and private, are actually formulating plans to remove the sickest patients from their respirators in the face of a national flu outbreak or other such “national emergency.”  I strongly suggest that you read my blog entries on the subject and decide for yourself.

Fourth, the natural law of supply and demand can not be repealed by government fiat. That is, we are asking the system to treat millions of new patients without a corresponding increase in doctors, nurses, facilities, diagnostic equipment and other medical devices. When the system becomes overburdened, it stands to reason that some people will be denied medical care (and might die), some people will experience delayed medical care (and might die) and some people will just give up and go home (where they might die).

Hansen goes on to demonize those who question the ability of government to create and manage a massive healthcare system when they have proven problems with Social Security, Medicare and the delivery of healthcare to our returning troops.

“Unfortunately, some special interest groups are using myths and other scare tactics to block health care reform. The most disgraceful of these fables is that the government will some how acquire the power to set up “death panels that could order seriously ill patients to be euthanized. In fact, this goes well beyond myth: it’s an outright lie.”

This is misleading at best. That there is no such things as “death panels” is true. Even government officials are not so stupid as to use this incendiary label. They would be called “triage committees” or “selection boards” or some innocuous sounding name. But, in essence, they would have the right to choose who lives or dies. How do you think scarce human organs such as kidneys are allocated among the much longer list of waiting recipients? Where some people live or die based on their ability to pay, social standing, support group, etc. Do you think that the Florida Department of Health is acting without federal guidelines and input when it is drawing up plans to deny care to some populations during a declared emergency?

““The goal, the plan says, is to focus care on patients whose lives could be saved and who would be most likely to improve. While it says those decisions are not to be made based on patients' perceived social worth or role, the plan calls for different rules for some populations.” <Source>

President Obama has already declared our healthcare system to be in a state of crisis, so it does not take a major leap to see “emergency” measures implemented to control costs and reduce systemic shortages of critical facilities, personnel, equipment and supplies.

Hansen goes on to say …

“Other outrageous myths being spread by those who want to obstruct health care reform: that reform would ration your care, hurt Medicare, or result in a government takeover. Every one of these statements is false.”

Why is AARP and Hansen lying, or at the very least, being disingenuous?

We can clearly anticipate an overburdened, overworked system will mandate some form of health care rationing. The government has announced that it plans to pay for part of the healthcare reform by eliminating the Medicare Advantage program which serves approximately 30% of senior citizens. And what would you call legislation which mandates the control of almost every facet of healthcare given to every legal and illegal citizen in the United States? I would call it a “takeover.”

But to answer the question of why AARP would be willing to sell out its membership to the Obama Administration, one needs only to consider the following two facts”

One, AARP’s senior leadership supports President Obama and the Obama Administration.

Two, AARP is one of those “special interests” that have a vested interest in Obamacare. By eliminating Medicare’s Advantage program, which is not offered by AARP to its members, in favor of Medi-Gap style insurance, which is offered by AARP to its members, AARP appears to be positioned for a windfall of new business. Truth-be-told, AARP is a two-component organization. One, a non-profit that purports to support the interests of senior citizens; and two, a “for profit” billion dollar organization which promotes healthcare, travel and other services to its membership in return for healthy referral fees and other income. Do you honestly believe that “for profit” considerations does not drive the entire organization’s goals and initiatives?

AARP’s built-in conflict of interest and apparent willingness to promote Obama and Obama care insures that they cannot act as a credible “honest broker” when it comes to healthcare reform.

The truth …

Everyone believes that the current healthcare system is in trouble and that insurance companies act in their own best interests while treating everybody, senior citizens included, shabbily.

But the question remains: is the democrat-led Congress and the Obama Administration the right “honest broker” to bring about transformative change. Can you trust a government run by politicians who have a history of corruption, malfeasance and troubling associations with special interest groups to run a health care system which represents one-sixth of our economy in an honest and ethical manner? One need only look to these corrupt politicians who claim there will be no pork in a funding bill to find thousands of earmarks already written in. One need look no farther than the corrupt practice of tucking an unpopular bill which has little or no chance of being passed into a “must pass” piece of legislation as an amendment. One need only to consider that this healthcare bill was crafted in secret, in a back room, without the input of the opposition which represents 46% of our population.

But the most disturbing of all … is that the democrats in Congress have apparently cut back-room deals with the pharmaceutical lobby, the durable medical equipment lobby, the unions, certain state representatives needed for their votes – and, apparently, large special interest groups such as AARP. Whether or not this was done with a “wink-and-a-nod” or through some formal, as yet to be published, memorandum of understanding,  we can see the genesis of a corrupt system taking place.

What is actually hidden in those 1990 pages? What special deals? What unintended consequences? And more telling, can any legislator actually read this bill – and understand it (especially with arcane references to other legislative initiatives) before voting away the rights of American citizens to honest, ethical, fairly-priced healthcare and healthcare insurance?

Already the Congress is displaying their dishonesty. By removing approximately 220 BILLION dollars from the current legislation and simply placing it in another bill – all so they can claim that the bill does not cost over $1 TRILLION dollars. Which, in and of itself, is an outright lie! The costs are in excess of a trillion dollars, perhaps as much as three trillion dollars. The phony accounting, based on ten years of revenue collection and five years of actually providing services, should outrage American citizens – and especially senior American citizens.

If Congress were acting on behalf of the American citizens, and not the special interests providing campaign funds, voter support and jobs for their relatives and favored friends, we would see a better program. One that featured tort reform and reduced malpractice insurance premiums (opposed by the insurance industry), increased competition across state lines so as to make healthcare portable and cheaper (opposed by the insurance industry), and the expansion of risk pools to allow anyone to purchase insurance without regard to their current employment status (again, opposed by the insurance industry).

Bottom line …

We need the urgent reform of the healthcare and healthcare insurance system. But we cannot rely on the dishonest and unethical democrats to provide such a program. Or trust the word of any special interest group which purports to serve its membership while selling them out for their own gain. We need to reform government before we reform healthcare. Our lives and the lives of our families depend on it.

Newt Gingrich's business model: selling conservative politics for big money ...

There is no doubt in my mind that Newt Gingrich may have  forsaken politics as a candidate  for a new business model. Eschewing the rough and tumble of the campaign trail in favor of seeking media face time to appear to be politically relevant as well as to hawk his extremely profitable lecture, writing and consulting business. Not to say that Newt Gingrich does not have valuable ideas and insight into conservative politics, but it does lead me to question his loyalty to conservatism when he openly endorses a Dede Scozzafava one of the most liberal Republicans that could be found over a Doug Hoffman who appears to be a Reagan-style conservative.

An action which further highlights the major ideological battle which is destroying the modern Republican party. Pitting those who believe that the Party should move leftward towards the independents and blue-dog democrats rather than implementing a conservative platform and asking those of like mind to join us to pursue a conservative agenda.

It appears Gingrich wants to pursue a more inclusive coalition rather than pursue a course of political purity. Will political pragmatism allow the Republicans to regain political power and pursue a conservative agenda or will it force continual compromise, often to the point of becoming a version of democrat-lite?

What Newt said …

“The New York 23 special election is a test of whether we respect local parties and local leaders.”

“There were four local GOP meetings in the 23rd district to decide who the party would nominate. Hoffman and Scozzafava competed in all four. Dede Scozzafava is an elected state representative from the largest county in the district who understands local issues. Doug Hoffman, who does not live in the district, did not finish in the top three in a single meeting. Not surprisingly, the district Republicans picked Scozzafava as their top pick in all four meetings.”

“Considering it was such a unanimous decision, the threshold for the national conservative establishment to try and override their decision ought to be very high.”

“In other words, support from moderate Republican elected officials enabled conservative governance, it did not prevent it. This is a lesson conservatives should keep in mind to counter the impulse to force out from the Republican Party anyone who is to the left of us on some issues.” <Source>

My question for Newt is simple: why should we respect local parties and local leaders when these were the very same people who were part of today’s problem: putting forth positions and politicians who were either corrupt or complacent when it came to supporting Republican ideals and preventing damage to the party.

Sad to say, I supported Arnold Schwarzenegger who appeared to be a Republican. Not only did he turn into a RINO (Republican In Name Only), but among his first acts in office was to appoint the former recalled democrat governor’s lifelong  lesbian chief of staff as his chief of staff. Why he chose a direct conduit to the opposition and a lifelong democrat for this important position spoke volumes about his style of “post partisan” governance. Not only did Schwarzenegger openly aid and abet the democrats in their profligate spending on social experiments, he also signed bogus budgets which papered over serious problems with additional borrowing and accounting legerdemain – borrowing state funds from one department to reduce the deficit. He turned out to be a more wanton fundraiser than his predecessor who was infamous as a political whore.

My personal opinion is to throw the professional politicians and party bosses out – and replacing them with our neighbors and friends. Someone not beholden to the party and the special interests they really represent.

I can understand Scozzafava being endorsed by Newt Gingrich, the NRA, the gay Log Cabin Republicans, New York State United Teachers and Daily Kos founder, far-left activist/blogger Markos Moulitsas.  As you can plainly see, a combination of the usual liberal suspects and the political power players who will coalesce around the nominative front runner.

As a life member (Benefactor Level), I certainly support those who support the Second Amendment. But as a conservative, I can hardly endorse someone who appears to be a RINO (Republican In Name Only) and who votes like a liberal democrat on social issues. Reinforced by the endorsements of a teacher’s union and a major Soros-backed blogger.

While I do not vote in New York, I would recommend Doug Hoffman as a start on sending a message to the political class on both sides of the aisle: you screwed us repeatedly and you will be replaced.

I stand symbolically with Sarah Palin, Governor Tim Pawlenty, Senator Jim DeMint and other principled conservatives in supporting Doug Hoffman.

I hope that this is the start of something big; a true reformation of the Republican Party towards offering real hope and change to the nation while reversing the toxic effects of a democrat-led Administration and Congress. We do not need the one-party rule which turned the inner cities of Los Angeles, Chicago and Detroit into cesspools of crime and desperation.

We need to return to that Shining City on the Hill.

Are the House Democrats throwing three of their own under the bus as a distraction from their increasingly corrupt and toxic policies? Charlie Rangel -- Maxine Waters -- Laura Richardson

Look at the (alleged) corruption over there and don’t look at the massive special interest corruption that is contained in the healthcare, funding and cap-in-trade bills …

Why shouldn’t each and every member of the democrat party who negotiated the healthcare initiative be investigated for massive quid-pro-quid deals made with representatives of the pharmaceutical industry, durable medical equipment industry, the insurance industry and some of the larger union and lobbying firms associated with for-profit organizations?

Is the House of Representatives trying to temporarily assuage public outrage over apparent egregious behavior by House members who have apparently attracted an inordinate amount of media attention?

According to published reports, the House ethics committee has voted to begin a full-scale investigation into  allegations of inappropriate behavior involving two Californians, Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Laura Richardson (D-CA)). It appears that they will join Charlie Rangel (D-NY) on the hot-seat.

All are members of the far-left wing of the democrat party and outspoken members of the Congressional Black Caucus. All three have been known to play the race card when explaining allegations against them.

This is a clear and present example of the danger facing our nation from corrupt democrats who openly promote a far-left socialist-style agenda. Unfortunately, the Ethics Committee is often the last refuge of scoundrels who should be facing criminal charges and being tried in a court of law.

Solution for corrupt California politics: a political performance bond ...

While candidates may come and go, the political parties are here to stay …

There is no doubt in my mind that both political parties in California are corrupt and will do or say anything to get their candidates elected and, once elected, keep them in power. The candidates may come and go, but the one constant in California politics are the two major parties.

Both parties have fielded candidates which have claimed to be responsible and both parties claim that they would like to see a smaller, more accountable and transparent government which maximizes the taxpayer’s dollar and minimizes waste, fraud, corruption and abuse. Great talking points – but in reality, far from the practice of party politics.

Conspiracy of confusion and corruption …

We have seen the democrats spend money, not on repairing or replacing California’s crumbling infrastructure nor actively investigating fraud and abuse in state-run programs, but on social programs to enlarge their voter base.

We have seen that republicans have openly conspired to vote with the democrats in the largest tax increase in California history; openly saying that they were willing to “sacrifice” the three republicans needed to clinch the vote in order to spare the rest of the republicans from any voter retribution.

And let’s not forget our governor, who pretends to be a republican while voting like a democrat – the man who signed the bogus budgets, knowing they were flawed and deficient.

Both political parties are corrupt and/or complicit in robbing the taxpayer and destroying our state …

Both parties are equally complicit in siphoning off the taxpayer’s hard-earned money for the personal and political benefits gained by pandering to the special interests. Whether seeking campaign funds, voter support or jobs for friends, members of both parties are equally guilty of robbing the taxpayer with a chaotic and confusing series of legislative acts and Administrative edicts that, in the final analysis, only serve to harm California and its residents. Why the state openly condones the violation of our state sovereignty and then diverts billions of dollars into supporting an illegal foreign culture within California can only be explained by either evil intent or the abdication of one’s responsibilities to their oath of office and their fiduciary responsibility to the state’s legal, law-abiding and responsible citizens.

I have an idea …

Since there is little or no chance that any new legislation can control basic human nature and that party politics will reign supreme in the years to come, I think that I have an idea which will serve as an additional check and balance against corruption stemming from the continuing political subversion of our formerly-golden State. The idea is simplicity itself.

A political performance bond …

For each of the major candidates proposed by the state’s two major political parties, the party must post a non-cancelable bond in an amount sufficient to fund a successful recall campaign – including a number of media announcements and the funding of professional signature gatherers – for each of the major positions to be filled in the Administration, Senate and Assembly.

The bond could be exercised if the candidate was found guilty of wrongdoing, abuse of office, lying under oath, misusing state funds, engaging in quid pro quo deals with special interests or violating the candidate’s oath of office and/or fiduciary duties.

Should the candidate serve honorably and without incident, the bond will expire at the end of the candidate’s service. The bond could not be rolled over to another term or another candidate. The bonding process would begin anew with each and every candidate and with each and every election.

The bonding company could require the use of a confidential candidate questionnaire and  investigate the background of the candidate in setting an actuarially-appropriate rate to secure such a bond. The rate could be advertised and would serve as an index of potential corruptibility. Sort of like setting odds on the potential for corruption and/or malfeasance.

With such a political performance bond in place, those opposed to political shenanigans and malfeasance could prove their case in a court of law and secure the release of funding for the recall of politicians who have misbehaved.

I cannot envision any other mechanism for holding California politicians accountable for their actions – and those of the major political parties. To continue to allow an unelected political party to continue determining the course of California’s future by promoting palatable, but deeply flawed candidates, is ludicrous. And to allow the incestuous control over the political process by parties which have been proven time-and-time again to be fielding corrupt politicians is also ludicrous.

It is now time to take our government back from those who have brought us nothing but hardship, pain and suffering with their policies. Especially those policies which benefited key politicians and their special interest friends over the citizens of the State of California.

Help improve the concept …

It’s just an idea … and if anyone wants to comment further, please let me know what you are thinking: both the pros and cons of promoting the idea of political performance bonds. The only negative I can anticipate is if the malfeasance comes at the end of an election cycle when the candidate can be replaced without a recall. Perhaps this idea would only be useful for mid-course corrections or be useful in limited circumstances. On the other hand, perhaps the idea of a political performance bond can be expanded to encompass a number of mutually-agreed on political goals and a metrics-based measuring system.

But in any event, we need to get the attention of the politicians and the political parties by throwing the current crop of bums out of office. Never vote for the incumbent, never vote for a professional politician switching political posts. Never vote for a lawyer or someone who has not worked in the private sector. That is, until they can prove they can govern ethically and effectively in our name, their time at bat will be extremely limited. Something along the lines of a part-time legislature also sounds good.

But for now …
