Whose stimulus is this? It's the American taxpayer footing the bill and it is not protectionism to demand that Americans benefit from the fruits of OUR hard labor!
Do the empty suit politicians have the balls to stick up for America and Americans?
Apparently caving in to the global community, President Barack Obama lacks the cojones to simply say: The Buy American provision stands as is – it’s the taxpayer’s hard earned money and they are expecting their lives to improve and to recover some of the money they lost. There is absolutely no reason why we should not Buy American!
According to Bloomberg News …
“Obama Will Review Buy American Provision in Stimulus (Update1)”
President Barack Obama’s administration will examine a ‘buy American’ requirement in economic stimulus legislation that has raised concern among U.S. trading partners, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said.”
What’s to examine: it’s OUR money and OUR future? These nations already get a significant amount of US trade and other benefits. Enough is Enough. Time to repair my retirement fund before allowing some foreign CEO to pocket a bonus based on business from America.
The administration ‘will review that particular provision,’ Gibbs said today at his regular briefing. The president’s advisers understand ‘all of the concerns that have been heard, not only in this room, but in newspapers produced both up north and down south.’”
Listen up! You need to listen to Americans – not the freakin media or the foreign lobbyists.
“He refused to say whether the administration supported or opposed keeping that part of the legislation intact. Nor did he say what the president would do if the provision remains once the bill clears the House and the Senate.”
No balls! This is a no brainer!
“The issue may cloud Obama’s trip to Canada on Feb. 19, his first journey outside U.S. borders as president. Officials in Canada, the top U.S. trade partner, are criticizing a part of legislation that passed the U.S. House of Representatives Jan. 28 that requires the use of U.S.-made iron and steel in infrastructure projects.”
It’s not protectionism, it’s prudent patriotism and protection of the American taxpayer who is footing the bill…
“ ‘U.S. protectionism is about to make Canada’s recession a lot worse,’ Ralph Goodale, house leader for the opposition Liberal Party, said today in Parliament.”
“Prime Minister Stephen Harper said yesterday that he will complain to U.S. officials 'over the ‘buy American’ measure. ‘This is obviously a serious matter,’ he said.”
I see the American stocks in my retirement fund cut in half and I am not pleased.
Is this the same General Electric who was trading with Iran while our troops were being killed by improvised explosive devices manufactured in Iran? General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt is in a fight to keep his job following his abysmal management of the company. With his multi-million dollar bonuses, I don’t give a crap what GE thinks. As for Caterpillar, they will always come out ahead and their opposition may be purely political.
“The provision also is opposed by U.S. companies with significant sales overseas such as General Electric Co. and Caterpillar Inc., which warn it may spark other countries to retaliate by restricting U.S. products.”
“The Senate is working on its own version of the stimulus legislation.”
Ceding our sovereignty to foreign countries …
Between Bush’s trade policies and Obama’s “redistribution on income plan,” who is looking out for the American taxpayers and workers?
“The U.S. provision is ‘clearly against trade agreements,’ and Canada would be able to file a complaint under either the North American Free Trade Agreement or with the World Trade Organization, said Simon Potter, an international trade lawyer with McCarthy Tetrault in Montreal.”
Leave it to a legal weasel to muscle his way into the argument to grab his fee – especially since lawyers rarely produce anything of lasting value except chaos, confusion and corruption.
“Harper is proposing a C$40 billion ($32.6 billion) plan to boost Canada’s economy, which like the U.S. is being gripped by a recession. Canada ships about three-quarters of its goods to the U.S. and is being squeezed by plunging demand here.”
“’I don’t think there’s any doubt that trade is going to be on an agenda for a bilateral meeting between the United States and Canada,’ Gibbs said.”
Correct me if I am wrong …
Didn’t one of Obama’s top advisors get caught in a lie – saying that he had no contact with Canadians – until a memo surfaced explaining that Obama’s speech was purely political theatre for American consumption only and that Canada could rely on an Obama presidency to bring home their bacon too!
It seems we are already starting to see Vice President Biden’s prophesy … Obama will do something and it will appear to be wrong!
