Obama: signs full employment act for lawyers into law ...
Today, President Barack Obama reneged on his pledge of legislative transparency and signed the first legislative bill of his presidency into law.
On its surface, the bill, H.R. 2831 “The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2007” amends title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to clarify that a discriminatory compensation decision or other practice that is unlawful under such Acts occurs each time compensation is paid pursuant to the discriminatory compensation decision or other practice.
“An aggrieved person may obtain relief including recovery of back pay for up to two years preceding the filing of the charge, where the unlawful employment practices that have occurred during the charge filing period are similar or related to practices that occurred outside the time for filing a charge.”
Thus creating a never-ending stream of work for employee compensation attorneys who will force companies and other organizations to prove that they did not discriminate against women and others when setting their individual compensation.
The democrats, also known as the party of lawyers, have finally codified the feminist ideal of “equal pay for equal jobs.” How soon will it before a secretary sues her company claiming that she should receive enhanced compensation because she is, in effect, doing much of her bosses job?
One of Obama’s pledges that was listed on his transition web site, www.change.gov, was to "not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House Web site for five days." In this case, Obama signed the legislation before it was published on the government's web site. Yes, I know -- words, just words!
Democrats – creating voters, one victim at a time!
What can YOU do?
Be prepared for a spate of legislation based on the assumption of “victimhood” to be enacted primarily for the benefit of the legal profession. Since plaintiffs often receive a paltry reward when measured against attorney’s fees and recoveries in class action lawsuits, watch for late night television ads trolling for victims – especially in the minority communities.
Prepare to feel the consequences of this legislation in terms of increased prices as companies are forced to defend their employment practices and pay huge settlements.
Watch the Justice Department and other governmental law enforcement agencies attempt to increase their budget by using this legislation as a reason to secure additional funding for enforcement activities.
