Climate change to condoms ... the "elite" want to rule your life!

Unfortunately, the necessity of the combined media to fill the airways and pages with content 24/7 in order to attract an audience has given rise to a new phenomenon. Those who are famous for being notorious, those who are famous for being famous and those who purport to have a message of importance. All given media access without critical analysis and comment.

Celebutards such as Paris Hilton who contribute nothing to the sum total of world knowledge rein supreme as either distracting entertainment or as a platform for mass merchandising so-called "trendy" fashion.

But there is a danger in the blind acceptance of experts, credentialed or not, and the self-proclaimed advocates of this or that position.

Therefore, I took great offense when the normally left-leaning Los Angeles Times printed an article proclaiming that a global warming expert was calling on California to do more to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

From the Los Angeles Times...

"Global warming expert calls on California to do more to cut greenhouse gas emissions"€

"On a tour of San Francisco and Sacramento, Rajendra K. Pachauri says the state's plan to slash global warming pollution to 1990 levels by 2020 doesn't go far enough."€

Playing fast and loose with dates and greenhouse gas emissions levels, one might ask what is so special about the 1990 date other than it is mandates a reduction in all economic activity in the state and a corresponding investment in emissions control equipment.

A hidden agenda?

Could it been that these type of stringent regulations are being proposed for the sole purpose of instituting a "carbon cap and trading system" which is one of the only ways that gross polluters may be able to reach these limits?

And what's up with the 2020 deadline other than the fact that most politicians voting for such a measure will probably be out of office by that date and thus do not have to fear the consequences of voting for this suspicious legislation. Even the public can not be counted on to raise a fuss as they often have a hard time dealing with time frames larger than six months at a time. And once the first enabling legislative bills are passed, it is only a hop-skip and a jump to more restrictive legislation that can be used to modify and extend legislative mandates. Thus one can devour a very large salami ... one small piece at a time.

"Global warming celebrity Rajendra K. Pachauri, wearing a green feather in his lapel, toured Northern California on Friday, praising the state's blueprint for addressing climate change but reminding public officials that Europe is moving far more quickly to address the issue."€

I don't care what they do in Europe. An insular, inbred continent of decaying infrastructure that has embraced the tenets of political correctness and whose citizens openly vilify an indulgent America with their self-righteous smug European manner. Jealousy writ large on a population that looks at the advantages available to the ordinary American citizen and would do or say anything to achieve parity even to the extent of promoting policies that would cripple America's economy.

Following the money ...

What is true is that Europe is already playing political games with the "cap and trade" system in which traders bought and sold $60 BILLION worth of emissions allowances. Want another reference to the year 2020 ... it is estimated, according to Fortune Magazine, that if such legislation comes to the United States, "this country's carbon trading market is projected to be worth $1 TRILLION annually by 2020."

And like the subprime mortgage market which produced those toxic derivatives, plans are afoot to collateralize pools of carbon credits for sale as investable securities. And by the same Wall Street Wizards who produced the current financial crisis by slicing and dicing mortgages, leveraging their purchase with borrowed funds and wreaked havoc on America when the underlying collateral marketplace collapsed from the effects of fraud and unsustainable greed. The wizards walked with their multi-million dollar bonuses and the average American got hosed.

Legislators, bureaucrats and bigwigs ...

"The chairman of the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, who recently accepted the Nobel Peace Prize alongside Al Gore, met with legislators, bureaucrats and bigwigs."€

Amazingly enough, it is far easier to convince the so-called "ruling elite" of your position as they are already predisposed to go along by the need to continually raise campaign funds, keep their faction in power, and in general, enlarge the bureaucracy and governmental control; not to mention raising taxes to sustain this political class -- which produces very little worthwhile legislation as they pass position papers back and forth among each others.

Convincing Americans ...

"He also held news conferences in Sacramento and San Francisco."€

And what good is a meeting with the rich and powerful, if you cannot use them to lend power and credibility to your position?

Most Americans are a gullible lot. Tending to believe what they read in modern newspapers and hear over the airwaves. Presented by a biased left-leaning press corp who long ago surrendered their analytical pieces to the necessity of pleasing their corporate masters. A generation of "newsies" who infuse hard news with celebrity quotes and random factoids. Where the goal is to capture the audience with celebrity fun and news that is dumbed-down to the point of sound bites. Unfortunately, the news media has betrayed America. First,  by slanting the news to the left and second by not critically examining what they are reporting. Replacing journalists with "news presenters" or opinionated commentators such as Keith Olbermann and Bill O'Reilly. Both of which pick and choose their pieces to fit their show's basic focus: ratings that result in outsized salaries.

Pseudo-science and "feel good" remedies ...

"And what would global warming be without slides and charts? Pachauri leavened his PowerPoint road show with humor, anecdotes and even a quote from Chief Seattle as he urged Californians to turn off unnecessary lights, take shorter showers and eat less meat -- personal behavior changes that would reduce their carbon footprint."€

Eat less meat? Oh I forgot, the left supports their coalition members who are vegans, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). To which I say screw you! One of life's little pleasures is to take longer showers ... preferably in a super-luxe guest bathroom like the one designed and built by my best friend and his wife. As for the PETA group, I am a member: only my group is named for those that believe in People Eating Tasty Animals.

Want to see crazy ...

"Ms Simpson was singled out for ridicule after she was spotted wearing a T-shirt bearing the slogan 'Real Girls Eat Meat', believed to be a light-hearted dig at her boyfriend Tony Romo's vegetarian ex-girlfriend, Carrie Underwood.

"Alistair Currie, a spokesman for Peta, said: 'Jessica Simpson might have a right to wear what she wants, but she doesn't have a right to eat what she wants -- eating meat is about suffering and death. Some people feel like they are standing up against a tide of political correctness when they make a statement like this ... what she is really doing is standing up for the status quo.'"  <source>

As for the PowerPoint slide show ... one only wonders if these are the same slides used by Al Gore to sell his story. Including the one of ice calving to show the destruction of the ice mass ... the one that was a fake computer-generated image lifted from the 2004 science fiction blockbuster "The Day After Tomorrow."

Energy economist?

"The visit of the world-famous Indian energy economist was 'particularly opportune,' noted Mary Nichols, chairwoman of the California Air Resources Board, who introduced Pachauri to an audience of 200 in downtown Sacramento."

Wait a moment. I thought that this guy was a climate scientist. He has a background in Industrial Engineering and Economics and is more associated with political groups than he is with working climate scientists. A typical economist who can blow hot and cold at the same time rather than a pragmatic engineering type as his background would have you believe. One thing that struck me as incongruous were that his PhDs in Industrial Engineering and Economics were conferred by North Carolina State University(Raleigh, NC) ... and then he went on to the international scene as a political type.

Who paid his speaking fee and expenses?

"The air board Thursday released the first comprehensive carbon-reduction blueprint of any U.S. state, a detailed plan to slash California's global warming pollution down to 1990 levels in the next 12 years, a 30% cut from projected levels."€

Did the citizens of California pay for the good doctor's appearance or was he funded by some Soros-like foundation who has made a point out of pushing global warming legislation as a means for furthering their anti-American agenda?

Sending a message?

"But at a breakfast in the Capitol, Pachauri told state senators and environmental activists that California's plan, though 'forward looking,' should go further. "It would be nice if California, one of the largest economies in the world, cut greenhouse gas emissions to 5% below 1990 levels,' he said. ' 'It would send a strong message to the rest of the U.S.'"

What message?  That the left-leaning socialist nut-jobs in California plan to further decimate our remaining industrial and energy generating capabilities during a time of deep financial malaise -- based on the type of junk science that doomed millions to an excruciating death when DDT was banned by the same group of "planet saving" do-gooders? They were wrong on the science then and they are wrong on the science now.

"The European Union, he explained later, is moving rapidly to reduce its emissions to 20% below 1990 levels. The U.S., meanwhile, has declined to sign the Kyoto Protocol, an international climate treaty signed by most industrial countries. Three weeks ago, the U.S. Senate threw out legislation to cut greenhouse gas emissions nationally."€

Pay close attention, we are not Europe and nor do we wish to be.

Dishonest hyperbole ...

"'It's ironic that the Earth is on fire all around us, and we're sitting here talking about climate change,' remarked Sen. Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach), as a haze from nearby forest fires blurred the view from the Capitol's windows."€

A great sound bite. But nothing else. It makes you wonder, how much industrial capacity must be curtailed to compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions produced by a naturally occurring event. (The fires were started by lightning). And, heaven forbid, what happens if the a new volcano sprouts in the High Sierras? Compared to the majestic and grand scale of nature, I find it insultingly arrogant that man believes that he can change the course of nature by reducing the length of his showers, using compact florescent light bulbs and turning down his thermostat. Sheer lunacy.

A lie?

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, made up of the world's top 2,500 climate scientists, has determined that a rapid rise in the temperature of the Earth's atmosphere results from human activity.

First, the IPCC is not made up of the world's top 2,500 climate scientists and there has been substantial disagreement among those who are actually named members. Some having to file suit to have their names removed from politically-motivated and heavily-edited reports. Many of these scientists doubt that the temperature rise in the Earth's atmosphere is man-made and the scientific results from the temperatures in the troposphere (where such global heating should be readily apparent) do not show dramatic evidence of global warming. There is no concensus other than of the climate's variability.

"It estimates that emissions must stabilize before 2015 to avoid a rise in sea level, flooding, forest fires, drought and heat-related disease."

Based on computer models with manipulated data which purports to represent global temperature activity, but are, in reality, cdata obbled together observations from disparate sources. There has been no validation of the climate models that were used and they have little or no predictive value that can be correlated with today's weather patterns. It is an estimate, at best, at what might happen under improbable circumstances. Unfortunately, people like Al Gore have taken the wildest "outlier" data which does not fit the central climate trends and used them to demonstrate an "emergency which doesn't exist."€

Spreading the alarm or spreading manure?

"It was a high-carbon trip for Pachauri. He had flown from New York, where he spoke at a luncheon held by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. Then it was on to San Francisco, where he addressed a Commonwealth Club panel and attended a reception with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He was slated to return to New York, then travel to Europe and Abu Dhabi on his mission to spread alarm."€

Why is he not presenting his findings in front of scientific panels before he asks the world to believe that Alice in Wonderland caused global warming? The answer is simple: because such confrontations would mark him as a simpleton and a political tool.

Believing the UN on population growth ...

"Asked about the effect of population growth on climate, Pachauri noted that the per-capita energy consumption in the U.S. is 40 times that of Bangladesh, making the U.S.'s annual population growth of 3 million people equivalent to adding 120 million people in a developing country."€

It is well known that the United Nations has fudged their population growth statistics just as they have fudged their African HIV/AIDS statistics. According to those who offered up a half-hearted apology, it was done to dramatize the real problem before the world's nations. Not only was population growth found to be non-linear; which made a mockery of their projections, but the assumption that everyone on the earth would use energy in the same way that Americans did led to some crazy predictions. And now they are back with the same nonsense couched in "global warming" terms.

So why should we believe the United Nations, an openly anti-American institution comprised of a number of unfriendly states headed by dictators who would love to see the United States humbled before the world?

Contraception?

"He called for 'a worldwide effort' to make contraception available to those who need it.
"Pachauri concluded his presentations with an 1854 quote from Chief Seattle: 'Man did not weave the web of life. He is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself."

And now we get to the truth. Here is a group of people who, for political reasons, want to see a crippled United States. Many of these people are "earth firsters" who believe that man is a stain on the planet and that animals should be accorded civil rights. Anything which man does in the march to a better future cripples the delicate balance of the earth's ecosystem. It is these mushy-headed environmentalists who were infiltrated by the Marxists, socialists, communists and others who had lost their political and financial support at the conclusion of the cold war. Now safe in their new home, they continue their socialist dreams of a utopian society in which the masses are ruled, temporarily as the story goes, for their own good by a cadre of "political elites" who are acting in the best interests of the people. That is, until they become corrupted by the prestige, power and profits which accrue to those who are able to grant political favors to the special interests.

Is this the face of the devil?

Capture6-28-2008-6.35.44 PM

Considering the old saying that "the devil is in the details." is this the face of today's modern devil. A man openly challenging the world to change their industrial development and economic underpinnings to cure an alleged event whose existence is totally based on computer models and a program whose influence cannot be measured for centuries?

What can YOU do?

It is now time to demand a trial by jury. A non-political scientific panel immune to the whims of their respective governments to discuss the issue of global climate trends and man's ability to influence the outcome of nature.  It is the least we can do before ceding additional power to politicians and bureacrats, decimating our economy and raising our energy prices and taxes to their European counterparts.

It is now time for the United Nations to disclose the massive conflict of interest when it allows the very scientists who are researching the role of man in man-made global climate change to sit on the assessment board that must judge the scientific merit of the scientist's work. In no other instance do you find those who are being judged sitting in judgement of their own work. This is not only a major conflict of interest but intellectually dishonest. Should you want more information that the alleged independence of the United Nation's IPCC has been compromised and that so-called "scientifically reviewed" materials were not as thoroughly vetted as commonly portrayed by the media, I will be pleased to supply the requiste report.

It is time for the media to present the global climate issue with critical analysis and commentary by someone other than paid talking heads spouting corporate nonsense.

It is time that we disavow the toxic effects of a corrupted environmental movement which has prevented us from attaining energy independence from those who are bent on destroying the non-believer infidels (US). Not only could we achieve energy independence, but we can free ourselves from enemies such as Saudi Arabia which has funded most of the dangerous Islamo-fascism in the world in an effort to prevent the overthrow of their Kingdom. Is it any wonder why these people continue to fund far-left groups who want to keep America "under control" and subservient to its continually increasing energy demands.

It is time to avoid those who believe that all species should be perpetuated, artificially if need be, when the true course of nature is built on birth, death and continual evolution. To cripple the water supplies to Southern California to protect a small fish of questionable value is stupidity of the highest order. To believe that this fish acts as a "canary in a coal mine," a early warning indicator of something that the scientists are unable to articulate is ludicrous.

It is one thing to have faith in a religion. However, taking the results of computer models on faith is sheer idiocy.

Do not vote for any candidate or current politician who is willing to subvert the safety, security, sovereignty and economic strength of the United States or limit an individual's right of self-defense for their personal philosophy, power, prestige or profits.

If women want to forcefully invade the men's turf under government sanction, let the government issue them dicks!

In an hell-bent effort to gain equality with those who stand up to pee, women have turned to lawyers and the government to enforce their rights to use “men only” facilities at private clubs. Even to the extent of allowing women into the men’s steam room.

One recalls with disdain, the antics of the publicity-seeking attorney Gloria Allred whose web site proudly lists among her legal accomplishments:

“Allred is renowned for her bold and creative tactics, and she recounts such unconventional strategies as visiting the all-male steam room of the Friars Club armed with a tape measure for the naked men and warbling the Peggy Lee hit 'Is That All There Is?' in order to end its men-only policy, and waging a sit-in and being locked inside the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office overnight to protest inadequate enforcement of child-support laws.”

From the New York Times …

“Nice Spot to Eat After Golf, but Women Are Barred”

“When the men of the Phoenix Country Club saw their feeding ways in peril, they did not tarry. Some sent nasty e-mail messages, hectored players on the fairway and, for good measure, urinated on a fellow club member’s pecan tree.”

“The targets of their ire were the women, and some men, who have dared to speak up against the club’s policy of forbidding women in the men’s grill room, a center of power dining in Phoenix.”

“Charges of sexism against private golf clubs are not uncommon; the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, where the Masters is held each year, does not permit women to be members.”

“But here in Arizona, where the governor, secretary of state, chief justice and Senate minority leader are women, it has rankled more than a few women that nonmember men have more rights than paying female members at the Phoenix Country Club, a century-old fixture in the city’s social and business life where it costs tens of thousands of dollars a year to belong.”

“Gov. Janet Napolitano, a Democrat, is not a member of the club, but Dennis Burke, her chief of staff, is. Mr. Burke has publicly opposed the separated dining rooms, and in an interview called them ‘indefensible.’ Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, does not belong to the club but has spoken there. (The McCain presidential campaign declined to comment on the separate dining rooms.) According to a 2007 club directory, Mr. McCain’s son, Andrew, is a member, along with scores of other notable Phoenix residents, including the rocker Alice Cooper.”

“Women at the club are not permitted to have lunch in the men’s grill room with their husbands after a round of golf; they have been barred from trophy ceremonies after tournaments, even ones they have sponsored, and may not participate in one of the most sacred rituals of the men’s grill room — sealing a deal over a beer with a client.”

Boo Hoo!

“If at three in the afternoon I wanted to have a business cocktail, there wasn’t any place to go,” said Vicki King, whose husband recently resigned from the club. Ms. King had privileges at the club as the spouse of a member.”

I cannot believe that a city as large and sophisticated as Phoenix does not have a multiplicity of venues which will be conducive to business drinking at 3:00 p.m. And why, I might ask,  isn’t she back in the office cleaning up the paperwork at 3:00 after having sealed the deal over a two-hour liquid lunch at some more commercial facility?

The argument that business women are precluded from making deals on the same basis as men does have some merit. But only if such deal-making is over golf, drinks or even at a strip club. In reality, these are “getting to know you” events which ease deal-making – but one would have to be downright stupid to think that even if a women were permitted access, the social dynamics of the interaction would be the same.

Now an aggrieved member couple has filed a complaint with the civil rights division of the Arizona attorney general’s office and is allegedly arguing that while the club is private and not ordinarily subject to the state’s anti-discrimination laws, the club should be subject to sanctions because it leases its facilities to non-members for golf tournaments, speeches and meetings.

If they are so aggrieved or uncomfortable, why not simply pack their bags and join a club that caters to couples. Unless it is a matter of the social prestige that accrues from membership in that particular club… in which case, they should honor the club’s tradition and internal grievance procedures. And if they are that aggrieved, they can solicit membership support for a new mixed-use facility and keep the entire matter out of the media.

Anyway, the club is said to be renovating the women’s area to be the equivalent of the men’s facility. Problem solved. On to the real problems … What to do about the membership of a spouse whose husband has died or has re-married? And what about their children’s access?

Oh! the troubles of dealing with life at the top?

But real issue remains: the members of this private club should decide what policies should govern their club and these should be expressed to the elected Board for consideration. No member should ever file a formal grievance against the club or seek legal redress. They should resign their membership and move on. What part of “private” do they not understand?

Jamiel Shaw: Does somthing smell funny?

Was Jamiel Shaw a secret gang member?

That’s the question the defense would normally ask to help mitigate a potential death sentence in a slam-dunk murder case. But why, you may ask yourself, do certain members of the prosecution seem bent on proving Jamiel Shaw was a gang member, gang associate, gang affiliate, gang friend or just was in the close proximity of classmates who were gang members, gang associate … well you get the picture.

And does it really matter?

The most important thing to remember about the Jamiel Shaw case is that an evildoer with a bad reputation walked up to another human being and shot him. I don’t care if the perpetrator of this dastardly crime thought that the victim was a gang member or not. In fact I don’t need to know anything else about this case other than who was the alleged perpetrator, who were his accomplices, who aided and abetted him  and who was the victim… and proving that the alleged perpetrator killed the victim in cold blood.

In fact, I am not going to recount the details of Jamiel Shaw’s death. Or what a good kid he might have been. Or even that his parents are decent and honorable people who have suffered a grievous lost. None of that really matters. What matters is that a 17-year old was killed – in broad daylight, on his way home from school and still carrying his book-bag. End of story!

What game are they playing?

In the first six months of this year, 25% of the 56 gang-related slayings involved either blacks killing Latinos or vice versa. That compares with 13% for the same period last year.  -- LA Times

A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has said, “[race]  is as much an element in the slayings as such other factors as gang clashes, drugs and turf.”

What angers me is all of the abstract, psycho-babble and anthropological crap being spewed by experts who see this as some sort of tribal conflict. By police experts who spout off about the presence or lack of race-related crime in our city… as if we are blind – even though the media stopped reporting the details of most inner city crime years ago.

It seems that nobody wants to consider the possibility that this killing was simply a Hispanic-Black confrontation and that there is a high-level of tension between the two communities with a propensity to lead to violence. With the legal citizens contending with the illegal aliens for employment, housing and access to programs within the city and county. And with the criminals fighting over turf on which to shakedown residents and push drugs.

Special order 40 …

The City refuses to modify Special Order 40 which, whether by directive or custom, keeps beat patrolmen and other law enforcement personnel from approaching illegal aliens to ascertain their citizen status even though they are in the close proximity of known criminals or known illegal aliens, many of which have been deported multiple times.

It is not known why this alleged perpetrator was even in this country. Or why the a law enforcement agency failed to have him deported after his original sentence. Or how, within the space of 24-hours or so, he allegedly managed to recruit a posse and obtain a weapon, a car and a plan to obtain additional funds.

But what is known is that making this particular crime into a racial hate crime, which is what it appears to be, at least to me, might cause some unwanted attention to the lack of proper policing – and the potential embarrassment of a high-ranking police official who is rumored to be seeking the nomination for the Secretary of Homeland Defense in an Obama administration and one who is fearful of upsetting the Chief Hispanic representative in Southern California – who just happens to be the Mayor.

So, unless anyone can prove me wrong, this seems to be a highly politicalized hate crime – where the politicians want to manage the public’s perceptions of the proceedings for their own political gain.

What are they hiding?

The overwhelmingly favorable treatment of illegal aliens who are often given passes where a legal citizen may be cited and prosecuted?

Why an alleged illegal alien gang member was apparently released early from serving four months time in the L.A. County jail  for weapons violations and assault against a police officer?

Why this alleged illegal alien gang member was not correctly identified as a gang member or an illegal alien and deported at the first available opportunity?

Or is it simply that our elected officials do not want you to know that they have apparently extended citizenship rights and courtesies to illegal aliens by not treating them any different from legal citizens who come in contact with their respective offices.

Does something smell funny? Explanations required …

If this crime was not politicized, how else would you explain the alleged behavior of  Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Michele Hanisee whose apparently outrageous behavior and comments prompted Jamiel Shaw Senior to file an Ethics Complaint with the State Bar and District Attorney's Office against Hanisee. According to published reports she repeatedly mentioned Special Order 40 and asked Jamiel Shaw to discontinue his very vocal support for the modification or repeal of the order.

Listen to Jamiel Shaw Senior comment on Hanisee…

In the final analysis …

But in the final analysis, a fellow human being who did not appear to harm anyone lies dead … while the authorities apparently try to blame the motivation for the criminal act of murder on the victim. Apparently to avoid the ugly truth that this was, in all likelihood, a racially-motivated hate crime.'

War zone …
The Times analyzed the circumstances of 562 Latino and black homicides from 2007 in which the race of the suspects was known, including all LAPD and sheriff's cases, plus those of smaller police agencies such as Long Beach and Inglewood.
The analysis found that nearly 90% of both black and Latino homicide victims had been killed by suspects of their own race.

And it is hard to believe that elected officials, from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the city mayors and law enforcement officials stand by and watch this continual crime wave by criminal illegal aliens and others decimate the citizens to whom they took an oath to defend from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. If they do not appear to be upholding their constitutional duties to preserve our freedoms, let them be thrown out of office for the bums they have become.

Welcome to Los Angeles, where the criminals carry guns and the citizens are denied carry permits because defending your life and your family is not politically correct in a government-dominated society.

What can YOU do?

Adopt the mantra “Crime is crime.” There are no socio-economic or racial reasons why crime should not be vigorously prosecuted to protect the citizenry.

Illegal aliens who commit crimes should be prosecuted, punished and then deported. If they are found in the United States again, then it would be prudent to incarcerate them for five years and then release them into the custody of their homeland. If they re-appear in the United States and commit another crime: three strikes and you get a mandatory 30 years.

Special Order 40 should be repealed by the Police Chief, the Police Commission and the Mayor by a deadline. If the act is not repealed, all of the above should be voted out of office or fired.

If there is an underground war between the illegal aliens and American citizens, start deporting all illegal aliens who are known to be connected to gangs. Turn the LAPD database of known gang members over to ICE for enforcement action. Use SWAT to effect felony arrests of illegal aliens. If necessary, declare a state emergency and empower the California National Guard to reduce the violence in certain areas.

Demand that your elected officials support a constitutional initiative to make the nationality of a child born within the United States assume the nationality of its parents in conformance with the practices of a majority of other nations.

Demand your right to carry a personal protection weapon to defend yourself and your family. Demand that crazies, criminals and children who use guns be severely punished; without the possibility of plea bargaining to a lesser offense and having to serve their full sentence without the possibility of parole or the restoration of the right to own or possess a weapon.

You have a right to live your life without crime and racial or ethnic strife. It’s in the Constitution which elected officials have sworn to uphold. There are three types of people who are entitled to protection: legal citizens, legal resident aliens, and legal visitors – the rest should be deportable upon the commission of any crime involving bodily force or the use of a weapon.

Do not support politicians who welcome illegal aliens with open arms and encourage them to take root in California. We can no longer afford the assault on our healthcare, education, judicial, retirement, social, and cultural infrastructure.

Do not vote for any candidate or current politician who is willing to subvert the safety, security, sovereignty and economic strength of the United States or limit an individual's right of self-defense for their personal philosophy, power, prestige or profits.

Why Barack Hussein Obama cannot be trusted with the fate of America...

While my gun-toting friends at the National Rifle Association and elsewhere are celebrating the Supreme Court decision which reaffirms the right of Washington’s citizens to keep weapons in their homes, I feel that I cannot participate in the celebration.

I do not see this Supreme Court decision as a great step in reaffirming the Constitution’s Second Amendment. Whereas some might accuse me of seeing the glass half-empty when I should perceive the glass as being half-full, I see nothing by trouble in our future.

We have a Supreme Court willing to hear cases which have the great potential to erode our Constitutional freedoms. We have a Supreme Court that is split along ideological lines to the point of promoting tyranny in the oldest sense of the word.

Tyranny: oppressive power exerted by government

We have legislation crafted by the lawyers and special interests for their own benefit. We have an increasingly bureaucratic government that is now acting more out of self-preservation and self-interest than for the benefit of the American people. Politicians, as well as bureaucrats, are constantly promoting new legislation, new rules and new regulations – with the goal of furthering the government’s control over its citizenry.

This is not the first time that the Supreme Court has taken an “activist” stance and ruled against the rights of individuals in favor of a government which seems broken and corrupted.

I speak, not of the gun control decision, but of the 2005 “Kelo” decision which adversely impacted the property rights of individuals in contravention of the Constitution.

For those unfamiliar with the case, the background is easy to understand. The issue involved the Fifth Amendment and the power of eminent domain.

The question before the court was whether or not private property can be confiscated from one private individual and given to another private individual to be exploited for that individual’s benefit. The key condition of taking this individual’s property is that the community, and by extension the government, will benefit from the taking.

At issue is the transfer of land from one private owner to another to further the economic development of the property that serves to benefit the larger community.

With this ruling, a local government entity can simply draw a line on a map, declare an area a “redevelopment zone,” acquire the property from private owners at a significantly depressed price, turn it over to a private developer for their sole benefit and profit. And the public’s welfare is served because the area is no longer considered a blighted eyesore and the new property owners or tenants are paying higher taxes to the government.

The court’s redefinition of “public purpose” as “public use” …

To accomplish their confiscatory ends, the court needed to redefine “public purpose” as being equivalent to the concept of “public use” as it appears in the Fifth Amendment. And they did.

The enhanced power of the government …

Under this scenario, anytime a government agency wants to upgrade a section of the community, they simply invoke eminent domain and give the property to someone who is likely to be a major political contributor or special interest to redevelop. While the owners of the condemned property are paid little or nothing – even though they may have purchased this property as a a retirement  investment many years ago or planned to develop the property themselves. Whatever the compensation, these people lose their property for a pittance compared to what the property might be worth in the future.

Government and special interest rights over the rights of individuals …

My position is that taking property for public use for such things as fire stations, roads, bridges, schools and other infrastructure that benefits all of the people is a permissible and necessary evil. However, when it is done to simply improve the community’s amenities and increase its tax base, then it is wrong. I personally believe that this is a misinterpretation of the Fifth Amendment which benefits the large corporations and special interests over private homeowners and land owners.

Under this scenario, a local government could simply confiscate a large apartment complex for its present value and then use it to provide low-income housing assistance to illegal aliens -- and it meets the "public purpose" test.

Who perpetrated the Kelo decision?

Voting for the loss of individual freedom were the court’s ideological liberals; John Paul Stevens, Anthony Kennedy, David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer. Anthony Kennedy is a quasi-conservative and often functions as the swing vote in narrow 5-4 court decisions. With the exception of Kennedy, it appears that these Justices continue to act as socialists: favoring the “collective” over the “individual,” engaging in social engineering to derive socially beneficial outcomes and, in general, usurping the Congressional power to be the sole branch of government to craft laws.

Today’s decision …

In today’s decision, we find that the Court’s decision to uphold the Second Amendment was opposed by: John Paul Stevens, David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer. Not so coincidently the very same ideologues that managed to corrupt the Fifth Amendment.

Why I cannot celebrate …

If  a committed leftist/socialist such as Barack Hussein Obama were to be elected to the Presidency, we would be one stroke, heart attack, accident or retirement away from destroying our beloved Constitution and its protections against government tyranny.

Obama will tip the scales of freedom and justice …

We simply cannot allow Barack Hussein Obama to tip the Supreme Court with an appointment of another liberal nominee. With the Presidency, a majority in Congress and a liberal Supreme Court, there is absolutely no guarantee that the Constitution will survive in a recognizable form. I am afraid the the Orwellian world where left is right, red is blue, night is day will come crashing down upon our heads in a mass of perverted, tortured and convoluted legalese which further cedes our freedoms to the government and its sycophantic special interests.

The United States as a third-world nation?

Imagine a world where the United States is turned into a third-world nation with open borders and no regard for passports. Where the indigent illiterates receive government benefits that require ordinary legal citizens to not only pay for their comforts, but move us out of our homes to the back of the line. This is the long-standing dream of the Marxists and others who have long discovered the methodology for using our own laws against us. One wonders why they actually hate America or blame America first whenever they discuss world politics. Overlooking, of course, the simple fact that our country has provided them with a platform to protest; a right granted by very few other countries in this world.

A long, long road …

This momentary Supreme Court victory is but a brief respite as there are many other legal battles which may be fought. We have a long, long way to go to return a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Parenthetically, I would like to add that the issue of Global Climatology is on the event horizon; where the true emergency is keeping the politicians from continuing to increase their power, continuing to build a larger bureaucracy and to make each and every citizen pay for their grandiose dreams of a non-existent, non-achievable utopia where there is apparently equality for all – except the elite ruling class which, like your mother, knows best.

What can YOU do?

Do not vote for the democrat party of Barack Hussein Obama if you value your individual rights and freedoms. The man is a junior con-artist/politician who serves as the vanguard of a socialist future. And from all appearances, he is already corruptible (Tony Rezko), polarizing (Reverend Wright), and pandering to the socialists on immigration, healthcare and union domination over both government and commerce. He is an elitist who believes that he has the answer … which is a tragedy as he has no clue about running a country without his and Hillary’s leftist friends.

Can you imagine a George Soros being Secretary of Treasury? Can you imagine a John Edwards or Hillary Clinton as Supreme Court Justices? And that’s just the beginning as he further corrupts and politicalizes  government agencies.

And I can hardly place my full faith in John McCain to do the right thing on Supreme Court nominees, economic matters, healthcare and immigration. But I do know he will defend America from its enemies, both foreign and domestic.

Do not vote for any candidate or current politician who is willing to subvert the safety, security, sovereignty and economic strength of the United States or limit an individual's right of self-defense for their personal philosophy, power, prestige or profits.

Ignore the left-biased media and try to research things on your own. Go behind the curtains of the media-spinmeisters and see exactly what was truly accomplished and what the end result.

One amazing thing: no Obama can point out individual Obama achievements without dissembling into a babbling idiot speaking of hope and change. What they never tell you is what the change is, who if affects and what it might cost.

Now is the time to make up your mind. We are at the crossroads of history; apparently having been screwed over by democrats like Carter and Clinton and RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) like Bush 41 and Bush 43. Unless something drastic happens, it is time to hold our noses and support John McCain for a 4-year term. Perhaps in 4-years we can rebuild the Republican Party back into an ICONic organization. Danger: The SINGLE most important key to protecting your health records!

The most important key to protecting your health records …

One need only look at the privacy agreements, end-user licensing agreements (EULAs) and the usage agreements of Microsoft, Google and other such Internet-based service vendors to know that you are signing a “unilateral” agreement which can be modified at any time, for any reason, in which you specifically agree to hold the vendor harmless from all problems, be they failure to provide service, loss of records as well as any other errors and omissions the vendor may make. Your remedy for such a breach is sometimes limited to the amount of your monthly access fee if a charge is imposed. Many agreements mandate arbitration which has been shown, at least in the credit card industry, to be somewhat unfair to the consumer.

So the single most important key to protecting your health records is a TRUSTWORTHY UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE USER AND THE VENDOR: a legally-enforceable agreement backed with both civil and criminal penalties for breach of contract. Without this legal and contractual protection, you are at the mercy of the vendor.

If the vendors want to inspire confidence in their ability to manage your medical data, perhaps they need to provide a single-page legally-binding, unalterable contract that specifies your rights and provides remedies for not being able to provide the service “on demand” and for the accidental and/or deliberate loss of your data and/or the release of your medical information to any party, including the government using a non-judicial summons. In addition. providing you with positive advance notice, via certified mail, (not e-mail) of a pending request for your records by any party that you have not specifically invited to share your records -- before it is fulfilled. An agreement which provides for the correction or deletion of erroneous data by authorized medical personnel under criminal sanction against fraudulently altering medical records. Each medical information provider would be able to alter ONLY those records that they provided. Another consumer would not have the capability to alter any submitted data as that could cause great harm to the consumer. And that the records be stored in an individually encrypted file using separate keys … which may require the consumer to provide a one-time password or pin (personal identification number).

Reuters gets it right …

According to Reuters News Service …

“A major consumer group, insurers together with Google Inc and Microsoft Corp said on Wednesday they have agreed to standards intended to speed adoption of personal electronic health records.”

Personal protection …

“The electronic medical record field remains in its infancy. While U.S. privacy laws govern actions by medical providers such as doctors, there is little in the way of other established privacy, security and data usage standards despite decades of industry efforts.”

For the benefit of others …

“Backers, which also include some doctors and employer groups, said they hope to break a stalemate in moving medical records online, sparked by consumer fears that their personal information will be abused, or held against them.”

“Principles:” Sounds nice, but it is a vendor-based initiative without the force of criminal or civil legal sanctions…

“Principles for personal health records include an audit trail to track use of the data, a dispute resolution process for consumers who believe their personal information has been misused and a ban on using data to discriminate in employment.”

One should also ask about the privacy principles which it doesn’t cover.

So who else is signing on …

“Also signing on to the principles are WebMD Health Corp; Consumers Union, which publishes Consumer Reports; seniors' lobbying group AARP; and America's Health Insurance Plans, representing big insurers such as Aetna Inc.”

Practical Considerations …

There is a very large gap between the theory of good medical practice and what is practiced in the field. The question of whether or not your full medical history and supporting records is necessary to treat common ailments, accidents and other medical conditions is questionable. Most records are kept for legal protective reasons rather than being accessed to determine a pattern in a patient’s condition. There are exceptions to this rule when good records are helpful, but not always.

Most doctors spend less than fifteen minutes with a patient, especially in those medical facilities which impose a mandated production quota. It has been my personal experience that presenting records at the time of visit is disconcerting as the doctor simply asks questions and ignores the proffered data. In addition, most doctors, even if the file is available, simply leaf through the first sheets which are filed in chronological order. Most do this while standing right in front of you and the cursory scan is performed in approximately one minute.  As for emergency situations, hospital ERs rely mostly on their own tests and may (depending on the doctor) glance at the information that you hand them. Unless they are stumped or need some form of baseline information (which is rare in ERs), they will not seek access to your medical history.

What’s in it for them?

For the doctors …

Little or no investment in large-capacity storage for records that must be maintained for legally-mandated retention periods. Likewise, little or no investment in costly proprietary systems which must be continually upgraded and maintained. With an Internet-based application, health records could remain online, stored at the cost of someone else, and be accessed as needed. With suitable legislation, responsibility for the maintenance of these records becomes someone else’s problem.

For the commercial Internet enterprises …

An opportunity to “monetize” your health records by providing aggregated health care statistics (without individual identifiers) to healthcare providers, insurers and researchers in addition to selling advertisers “targeted” ads to a very select and special audience. These ads might be displayed when you log on to the records site and might consist of ads for new drugs, medical equipment, exercise equipment based on what might be found in your records. It is not inconceivable that the ads could also pop-up in your “personalized” account when browsing non-medical sites. For some vendors, the ability to build and sell Internet-based doctors record-keeping systems via a monthly charge would provide an ongoing revenue stream.

For the medical insurers …

Easy access to your combined medical records as you have, in all probability, signed an access waiver as a condition of insurance. With the old system, they needed to physically produce a copy of the release and then copy the records at a doctor’s office. A request for records might be met with some resistance and all of the records were not likely to be made available; only those specified in the request. Based on easy access to your past medical history, any slight mistake in your application could result in a denial of coverage.

For healthcare vendors …

Cost-effective advertising that could reach people taking particular drugs or needing some form of home-health equipment. Not to mention sellers of vitamins and other non-prescriptive remedies.

For non-medical insurers …

The ability to access the totality of your medical records using a subpoena or motion for discovery. This could allow an insurer to potentially mitigate some of the damage award by claiming that an accident exacerbated a preexisting injury and was not the cause of the injury.

For the government …

On the healthcare level, researchers seeking information on communicable diseases (including HIV/AIDS) might be able to scan large amounts of online data and legally require the provider to surrender your identity so as to build a comprehensive registry database. Or on a less formal and intrusive basis, perform statistical research using your medical records without your explicit permission. On a political level, the government could possibly access the records of prominent (or just pesky) people and then release the information to media to discredit their actions.

For the media …

As we have recently seen, media contacts within medical facilities were able to procure the medical records of celebrities for use in the tabloid and mainstream press.

Paranoid or prudent?

I am not saying that a central repository of medical records is a bad thing, what I am saying is that adequate safeguards do not currently exist and the precautions needed to protect your data is not in place. Someday, maybe, but definitely not now.

From the Washington Post ... a similar non-medical concept:

"Charter Communications, the fourth-largest cable operator in the United States, announced yesterday that it has backed off a plan to monitor customers' Internet transmissions."

"The company had been planning to harvest the stream of data from each Internet customer for clues to their interests and then make money from advertisers who would use the information to target online pitches."

Before you provide voluntary access to your health records…

  1. Consider the potential medical benefits of having such a combined medical record. If you see a benefit in keeping such a record, ask for copies of your latest test results and discuss the matter with your personal physician. While many health professionals like the basic idea of having records available, there is often a great gulf between wants, needs and actual usage.
  2. Consider the past history of information that has accidentally been “Internet accessible” by the government, its contractors, medical facilities and commercial entities.
  3. Consider the past actions of certain insurers who have made a routine practice of denying claims or looking for any excuse to mitigate their damage costs.
  4. Review the legal agreement between you and the proposed service vendor. Is it one-sided? Does it contain an arbitration clause? Does it prohibit class action lawsuits? Does it disallow or limit damage claims? Does it reference other agreements which may modify the terms of the original agreement?
  5. Considering the number of cases of identity theft and financial account breaches, it the system truly hacker-proof or merely hacker resistant?
  6. Does system access require more than a single pin number or password? If the system claims to use multi-factor authentication, what are its defenses from a common “man-in-the-middle” intercept attack.
  7. Are you locking-in for a lifetime of service from a single vendor or will the vendor allow you to transfer the information to another vendor?

Bottom-line … Do you want to be an early adopter?

I personally believe that since commercial Internet-based recordkeeping is in it infancy and that there will be many improvements to come, that a wait-and-see attitude may be appropriate for most individuals.

What can YOU do?

If you feel that your medical history is unique enough or your current medical condition warrants it, by all means build your own medical history file. Ask for copies of critical baseline tests or copies of important reports. Ask your doctor to review these for completeness. You can scan them into images and place them on a DVD, place them on a USB-memory device or simply store them on your computer. You can summarize the basic information including your doctor access information and current drug list (don’t forget vitamins and over-the-counter remedies). You can have these records placed on a wallet-sized microfilm card.

If you feel compelled to make your records available, consider a specialized service such as Medic-Alert which was founded in Turlock, California and is the well-respected supplier of the ubiquitous Medic-Alert bracelets.  This is a non-profit institution that actually does what others are attempting. While they are a commercial operation (actually a non-profit), I would tend to put my trust and faith in their hands than in Google, Microsoft or any other venture which wants to monetize your medical records.

Until the government has specific criminal and civil legislation in place to safeguard your individual privacy or your local physician installs a computerized record-keeping system (which can participate in a secure medical information transfer network), I would be very reluctant to hand any Internet vendor my records.

I strongly urge you to read my blog item which was written when Microsoft’s HealthVault was announced. It analyzes the practical considerations of using a commercial vendor for health records along with privacy concerns. Also the quote of the day is particularly appropriate.

It is best to remember: that information which is released to the Internet is destined to remain online, somewhere and somehow, forever and a day.

The futility of debate with global warming "believers"

Yeah, but …

The other day, I engaged in a global warming debate in a “comments”  forum provided by a large newspaper. It was a disconcerting  “whack-a-mole” experience. You respond to one comment and two more spring up to carry the conversation elsewhere. Annoying to say the least.

The corruption of science …

The only thing I learned is that many people have apparently put their trust and faith in “scientists” that, maybe in a previous time, actually exhibited respect for the scientific process.

Now computer models, possibly based on poor assumptions and which require “adjustments” are taken as gospel even though some of the results are improbable. Often these  models are not adequately scrutinized and debated in scientific community as little or no funding exists to verify the results of others when the money could be spent on original projects that attract additional institutional funding.

Real-Life Example of Climate Adjustments ...

The various sources at a single location are combined into one record, if possible, using a version of the reference station method. The adjustments are determined in this case using series of estimated annual means.

Non-overlapping records are viewed as a single record, unless this would result introducing a discontinuity; in the documented case of St.Helena the discontinuity is eliminated by adding 1C to the early part.

After noticing an unusual warming trend in Hawaii, closer investigation showed its origin to be in the Lihue record; it had a discontinuity around 1950 not present in any neighboring station. Based on those data, we added 0.8C to the part before the discontinuity.

Some unphysical looking segments were eliminated after manual inspection of unusual looking annual mean graphs and comparing them to the corresponding
graphs of all neighboring stations.

The goal of the homogeneization effort is to avoid any impact (warming or cooling) of the changing environment that some stations experienced by changing the long term trend of any non-rural station to match the long term trend of their rural neighbors, while retaining the short term
monthly and annual variations. If no such neighbors exist, the station is completely dropped, if the rural records are shorter, part of the non-rural record is dropped.

Now with the corrupting influences of money and media, one is now faced with scientists whose positions are tempered by their supporters and refuse to debate and rebuff all qualified doubters.

Thus, in many quarters, science is becoming a bankable commodity to enlarge one’s personal prestige, power and wealth. If the truth, as it is known at that point in time, is spoken – it seems to be a happy confluence of events.

So why are all these crazy people running around trying to reproduce Enron’s trading schemes (which can easily be gamed) rather than calling for honest scientific inquiry into the issue of global climatology?

Perhaps I should join the crowd …

Get a graphic artist to produce a realistic rendering of a proposed Global Warming Money Machine (GWMM) that does nothing useful, but make money. And use this rendering and a wonderful story to attract seed capital.

With my original GWMM concept people will be falling over themselves to invest. Equipment vendors will rush to bid on my contracts – often  at heavily government-subsidized prices.  Famous (and infamous) people will come out of the woodwork to act as my paid spokespeople. We could probably pay a few major Hollywood party girls to attend the launch party to intensify the media coverage.

The GWMM concept …

The basic concept is simple. We build a GWMM plant near a volcano. We run a long insulated pipe into the volcanoes’ mouth and suck-in carbon dioxide. We then solidify the carbon dioxide into dry ice which we drop off the cliff into the ocean to further cool the waters. The energy required to power the plant can come from the volcanoes’ geothermal potential. Pump water down into a heat collector in the molten magma; which flashes the water into steam to drive the turbine which generates electricity and we have a nice closed energy loop to power the plant.

Now for the “ steve touch of genius.” We sell carbon credits to the rest of the world and make our fortune. All we need for this phase is a personal computer, a quality printer and some fancy certificate forms.

Like I said, the machine does nothing but produce paper certificates. Certificates which can be sold to utilities, oil companies and other industrial operations that are legislatively mandated to clean up their act, so to speak.

This way, the gross polluter avoids spending serious money to cure their real pollution problems while passing the cost of the carbon credits on to the ratepayers and, by extension, the general public. The executives are happy with their bonuses and the shareholders are happy with their increased return on investment.

We will make so much money that we can afford to do good works. Like sponsor the major “green” charities. Make donations to a major hospital for funding lung disease research. Of course, the plaque will be in the chief executive’s name (mine) and will attest to my innate goodness. I will have my bodyguards, with their Secret Service earwigs, stop anybody who appears to want to ask me about the people actually dying from the “mitigated” pollution. And there will be enough money for political contributions to lubricate the whole money-spinning system.

Damn, it’s time to wake up and join the real world…

Unfortunately, this seems to be the reality today.

THE FED: WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN TOMORROW (6/25/08)

What really happened …

The Federal Open Market Committee decided today to keep its target for the federal funds rate at 2 percent.

Recent information indicates that overall economic activity continues to expand, partly reflecting some firming in household spending.  However, labor markets have softened further and financial markets remain under considerable stress.  Tight credit conditions, the ongoing housing contraction, and the rise in energy prices are likely to weigh on economic growth over the next few quarters.

The Committee expects inflation to moderate later this year and next year.  However, in light of the continued increases in the prices of energy and some other commodities and the elevated state of some indicators of inflation expectations, uncertainty about the inflation outlook remains high.

The substantial easing of monetary policy to date, combined with ongoing measures to foster market liquidity, should help to promote moderate growth over time.  Although downside risks to growth remain, they appear to have diminished somewhat, and the upside risks to inflation and inflation expectations have increased.  The Committee will continue to monitor economic and financial developments and will act as needed to promote sustainable economic growth and price stability.

The Federal Reserve: where good intentions often yields bad policies …

The dot com fix …

A new paradigm ruled in our land. Companies that produced little or no profit or burned cash at an obscene rate were suddenly valued by investors at multiples that boggled the mind; simply because they had a story. A promise of producing radical change in the world and reaping untold gazillions in the process.  Millionaires were common place, multi-millions were created overnight and instant paper billionaires were not unknown. And it all came crashing down as the stock feeding frenzy turned into a downward spiral into a black hole of nothingness.

In order to fix our economy and assist in the recovery from the dot com bubble bursting, the Federal Reserve kept our Federal Funds rate artificially low, bottoming at one percent.

The global pool of money which previously seemed to be perfectly satisfied in investing in safe Treasuries was in the process of doubling due to a weak dollar and the expansion of exports. Money managers now looked around for something more than a one-percent yield and fixed their eyes on mortgages. Since investors did not want to deal with foreclosures and actual day-to-day mortgage operations, they turned to Wall Street to abstract the operations out of mortgage investing via derivatives backed by the mortgages themselves.

When everyone who wanted a mortgage already had one, Wall Street became frantic to keep the money flowing, so they kept relaxing mortgage standards until anyone that could sign their name could get one … even those who couldn’t afford to buy a car.

So now that the mortgage market imploded in on itself and the money managers continued looking for any safe yield greater than a treasury bond, they turned to investing in commodities.

Seeing that there was money to be made, Wall Street developed the ETF (Exchange Traded Funds) which would let the common man purchase commodities as easily as he could purchase stocks, not to hedge his actual crop prices or secure a stable price for the raw materials needed for his manufacturing plant  – but to play profitable games with paper.

So now we are, once again, in a growing bubble. We see a weak dollar and growing inflation about to wreak havoc on an already fragile US economy.

The dollar …

First they say that it is in the nation’s best interests to have a weak dollar to attract trade and help reduce the balance of payments issue. Then when goods and services are already selling at a thirty percent discount to the Euro and real estate prices are sinking lower each day, President Bush comes forward with the statement: “A strong dollar is in our nation’s interests. It is in the interests of the global economy.”

Inflation …

First they say that inflation appears to be under control and is moderating. Then when the cost of oil and commodities skyrocket as the global money pool seeks an above average return in commodities (remember Treasuries are being held at an artificially low rate and the mortgage game is producing negative yields), Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke says that “the danger of a ‘substantial downturn’ in the US economy has abated over the past month, but that inflation risks are increasing.”

So what’s really going on?

I have this nifty little spreadsheet program that calculates the imputed value of inflation over various time frames. Since I want to avoid being whipsawed back and forth trying to make short-term decisions on longer term events, I choose not to use the six-month, one year or three year outlooks. I look at the five year and ten year outlooks only.

As of  June 19th, my Fed Watcher program indicated that the FOMC would need to raise the Federal Funds Target Rate by  173 (1.73%) basis points just to return to a neutral inflationary stance in the 5-year outlook and 228 basis points (2.28%) to return to a neutral inflationary stance in the 10-year outlook.

The numbers for June 20th (made available on June 23rd) show that the Fed would have to raise the Federal Funds Target rate by 158-basis points (1.58%) to achieve a neutral inflationary stance with respect to the 5-year horizon and 217-basis points (2.17) with respect to the 10-year horizon.

Capture6-22-2008-2.45.27 AM

So what should the Federal Reserve do tomorrow?

If I were acting as one of the Governors of the Federal Reserve and sitting on the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), I would argue my case to Ben Bernanke and the others.

1.  The Federal Reserve has been faulted for always being behind the curve, acting only when things were dicey and the pressure was on. For issuing meeting announcements that were cryptic (a tip of the hat to Alan Greenspan who used lots of words to say nothing) to the point of encouraging rampant speculation as to the Fed’s next move.

2.  Wall Street has their own sharp operators and economists and it is common wisdom that the consensus opinion of what the Fed’s FOMC is likely to do is already priced into stocks, bonds and commodities. And that only bold action can move markets.

3.   I would recommend that the FOMC hike the Federal Funds target rate by 100-basis points (1%) and craft an announcement that essentially says:

(a)  the economy has slowed, but it isn’t totally stagnant – we are not in a recession – although some people feel like it is the end of the earth;

(b)  employment, a prime objective of the FOMC’s policymaking is disappointing, but not overwhelmingly bad;

(c)  the dollar is weak and it is now time to strengthen our national currency;

(d)   inflation has increased to the point of discomfort and we are going to aggressively going to attack it before it attacks us; and

(e)   I would add the customary weasel words: “we will monitor the situation closely and take the appropriate action.

What if they don’t take my advice?

My feelings won’t be hurt. Fed Watcher indicates a need for  raising the rates. The Fed’s use the very same numbers and techniques that I do. They know what is happening and the political ramifications of their actions. Whatever action they take, they can’t hide the results and Fed Watcher will continue to tell the truth.

However, an entry in the Wall Street Journal caught my attention.

"Then earlier this week, someone in the upper reaches of the Fed began leaking to the press in advance of next week's FOMC meeting that Mr. Bernanke saw no reason to raise interest rates this month, or indeed until the autumn. (Bernanke's Market Week; June 21, 2008; Page A8)"

As did this:

"For insights we turn to MKM Partners economist Mike Darda. Following is a synopsis of what was said during his interview on Fast Money:"

"I don’t think the Fed will raise rates next week, but they will probably harden the language they use when talking about inflation risk which got a bit more hawkish in the last meeting," says Darda. "Inflation expectations have been creeping higher and the Fed is trying to bat them down with talk and threats of action. Futures markets expect a 50 bps hike by November and a 75 bps hike by early next year. Personally, I think the Fed hikes this year, but probably not until the fall or winter."

Or this:

"This week traders have one thing and one thing only on their minds: the FOMC meeting, where the dollars fate will be determined. Analysts predict that Bernanke will leave rates unchanged, but the general feeling is the statement after the decision will be hawkish due to both high inflation and comments from US officials that the dollar should be strong. However, all that is easier said than done! The question is, will Bernanke "walk the walk" after all the hawkish comments heard in the last few speeches? If the statement fails to hint at any rate hikes for the coming months, the dollar will be sold off all across the board; as the market doesnt like it to be proved wrong! It will be very interesting to see the EUR/USD reaction afterwards and the outcome will either "make or break" the greenback." (Will This Weeks FED Rate Decision Give Dollar The Long Awaited Rally? -- (Lena Manousarides)

Hopefully, they are collectively smarter than I am and have better access to information regarding the market.

If they cut the rates once again, they will be severely criticized.

If they choose to do nothing and attempt threatening language, they will be criticized. Seriously, the expectations of most pundits is that the Fed will do nothing with the Federal Funds target rate and publish a statement that stresses inflation over the slowing economy (and possible recession).

If they raise the rates 25- to 50-basis points, I believe that Wall Street will be relieved and the market may rise slightly.

If they raise the rates 100-basis points, I believe we will see a greater change in the market. I think that commodities will decline slightly ... and that the pundits will still criticize the Fed.

One should always remember, when the Federal makes a mistake, it will be a big one that hurts many people. It will hardly go unnoticed.  And the Fed Watcher doesn't lie!

NASA Researcher crosses the line between politics and science: suggests oil chiefs should be tried for crimes against humanity.

It is one thing to have an opinion, based on science or whatever you happen to believe, but it quite another thing to call for the punishment of those who do not agree with you.

Just because you have scientific credentials and a large microphone does not mean your “theory” is valid and you speak the truth …

From London’s Guardian …

“Put oil firm chiefs on trial, says leading climate change scientist”

James Hansen, one of the world's leading climate scientists, will today call for the chief executives of large fossil fuel companies to be put on trial for high crimes against humanity and nature, accusing them of actively spreading doubt about global warming in the same way that tobacco companies blurred the links between smoking and cancer.”

“Hansen will use the symbolically charged 20th anniversary of his groundbreaking speech to the US Congress - in which he was among the first to sound the alarm over the reality of global warming - to argue that radical steps need to be taken immediately if the ‘perfect storm’ of irreversible climate change is not to become inevitable.”

“Speaking before Congress again, he will accuse the chief executive officers of companies such as ExxonMobil and Peabody Energy of being fully aware of the disinformation about climate change they are spreading.”

Why are there major well-respected and equally well-credentialed scientists who doubt Hansen’s theories?

“He will tell the House select committee on energy independence and global warming this afternoon that he is now 99% certain that the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has already risen beyond the safe level.”

If he is 99% certain, let him release his models and his data to the rest of the world for verification as is the norm in most scientific endeavors. Let him explain how we have apparently seen signs of global cooling in the face of a rising carbon dioxide level. Let him explain why NASA was forced to correct climate data that Hansen compiled and used in his models.

And if he is 99% certain, how does he explain the ice age that never materialized and the same prescriptive remedy 30+ years ago …

On July 9, 1971, the Washington Post published a story headlined "U.S. Scientist Sees New Ice Age Coming." It told of a prediction by NASA and Columbia University scientist S.I. Rasool. The culprit: man's use of fossil fuels.

The Post reported that Rasool, writing in Science, argued that in "the next 50 years" fine dust that humans discharge into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuel will screen out so much of the sun's rays that the Earth's average temperature could fall by six degrees.

Sustained emissions over five to 10 years, Rasool claimed, "could be sufficient to trigger an ice age."

Aiding Rasool's research, the Post reported, was a "computer program developed by Dr. James Hansen," who was, according to his resume, a Columbia University research associate at the time.

Before we turn our society topsy turvy and initiate measures which drastically restrict our personal freedoms, raise taxes, enlarge government and weaken our economy,  perhaps we should put James Hansen on public trial before a  jury of his scientific peers is James Hansen. A trial with evidence, proof and logical thinking without the politics and emotion. This is the way science is done.

Hansen goes political …

How can one take Hansen’s position seriously when he has allied himself with Al Gore and is being used much in the way Cindy Sheehan was used by the far-left to drive public opinion?

The current concentration is 385parts per million and is rising by 2ppm a year. Hansen, who heads NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, says 2009 will be a crucial year, with a new US president and talks on how to follow the Kyoto agreement.”

“He wants to see a moratorium on new coal-fired power plants, coupled with the creation of a huge grid of low-loss electric power lines buried under ground and spread across America, in order to give wind and solar power a chance of competing. ‘The new US president would have to take the initiative analogous to Kennedy's decision to go to the moon.’"

He is also considering personally targeting members of Congress who have a poor track record on climate change in the coming November elections. He will campaign to have several of them unseated. Hansen's speech to Congress on June 23 1988 is seen as a seminal moment in bringing the threat of global warming to the public's attention. At a time when most scientists were still hesitant to speak out, he said the evidence of the greenhouse gas effect was 99% certain, adding ‘it is time to stop waffling’".

“A group seeking to increase pressure on international leaders is launching a campaign today called 350.org. It is taking out full-page adverts in papers such as the New York Times and the Swedish Falukuriren calling for the target level of CO2 to be lowered to 350ppm. The advert has been backed by 150 signatories, including Hansen.”

It is one thing to force a debate and it is quite another to force an action …

Scientists, except for those on the far-left, very rarely engage in political debate to promote their positions. Because it is a waste of time considering that it is an immutable fact is that science is not subject to public opinion or political whim.

If Hansen were truly a scientist, rather than a computationalist, he would be attempting to force a rigorous scientific debate based on his work. He would be presenting at scientific conferences, not political rallies.

And, one should remember, that a Congressional inquiry is not a scientific forum or even a place when open and honest debate takes place. It is where asshat politicians extend their fifteen minutes of media fame.

The mere thought that people like Maxine Waters, Barbara Boxer and others of their ilk that can hardly understand the science or formulate a cogent question, points to the ludicrous nature of Hansen’s Congressional appearance.

Hansen, shopping for a political appointment?

It is my personal opinion that Hansen is lobbying for a major political appointment in an Obama administration.

What can YOU do?

Separate politics and science. The two are often incompatible as politicians rely on feelings and perceptions and very rarely lets facts get in the way of their positions.

Demand a full and fair hearing of Hansen’s theories in a scientific forum where competing theories and evidence can be presented … before allowing the government to take self-serving and precipitous action which will result in bigger government, higher taxes, loss of personal freedom and introduce more chaos into our economy. Not to mention weakening national defense in the face of known and traditional enemies such as Russia and China. (Perhaps that is what the far-left

Do not vote for any candidate or current politician who is willing to subvert the safety, security, sovereignty and economic strength of the United States or limit an individual's right of self-defense for their personal philosophy, power, prestige or profits.

Fudging the numbers?

There are relatively no known tests that would determine the validity of computerized climate models. In fact, the only validation seems to come from comparing the output with the historical and current weather records. Hardly a rigorous scientific approach. Especially considering that weather prediction models lose accuracy within periods of days and that while the model continues to churn out answers – they have been found to be neither relevant nor valid.

MARKETING OBAMA: IMAGES OVER SUBSTANCE

The new face of Barack Obama …

Obama’s handlers and spinmeister's are busily concocting a campaign based on “images” and “sound bites” rather than one of policy substance.

Capture6-21-2008-1.51.54 PM In an effort to look more Presidential while standing at the podium, Obama’s media consultants decided to add a Presidential-like seal to convey a more solid and “official” image. Much like the stage managed placement of black and white people behind the podium, this is more artificial spinmeistering  to divert attention from the message

According to the Associated Press

“A new seal debuted on Obama's podium Friday, sporting iconography used in the U.S. presidential seal, the blue background, the eagle clutching arrows on left and olive branch on right, but with symbolic differences. Instead of the Latin 'E pluribus unum' (Out of many, one), Obama's says 'Vero possumus', rough Latin for 'Yes, we can.' Instead of 'Seal of the President of the United States', Obama's Web site address is listed. And instead of a shield, Obama's eagle wears his 'O' campaign logo with a rising sun representing hope ahead”

Michelle Obama too …

It seems the spinmeisters had to overcome the impression that Michelle Obama was an “angry black woman” and curb her more strident tone, compared to her husband’s more laid back approach, when she proclaims that “Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual — uninvolved, uninformed.”

And to overcome her gaffe which led to the oft-repeated sound bite  of her saying "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."

Questions remain: Will this political makeover transform Michelle Obama into the image of a gracious potential first lady who is proud of her country and her husband? Will it help ameliorate the image of another co-presidency where the unelected wife is an integral part of the policy decision making that will affect all America?

However you slice it, Michelle Obama is not running for office and serves only as a time-wasting diversion from the more important examination of Barack Obama’s history and opinions, both past and present, on issues of substance. Even Bill Clinton’s campaign handlers were appreciative when the public focused on Hillary instead of their deeply-flawed candidate.

Who is Barack Obama and what does he stand for?

Without a doubt, this is one of the most important questions facing our nation today. As a nation, it is critically important to prevent another Jimmy Carter or Clinton-style democrat from being elected to office. Carter, as you may well remember, brought about the rise of Islamo-fascism – the sting of which is being severely felt today – and whose failed economic policies drove both prices and interest rates through the proverbial roof. Like Clinton, he failed to protect America by utilizing a swift military response to those who would attack America or her citizens.

Hope? Change?

Obama’s spinmeisters concentrate on a two word mantra: the first being HOPE and the second one being CHANGE. They are hoping to create an image of an electable candidate by presenting a neutral blank slate upon which America’s citizens can project their own hopes and wishes for change. Everybody hopes for the changes that will improve their lives. Unfortunately, many of these hopes and changes vary greatly depending on your racial, ethnic, religious, gender, and income level. Thus, it is necessary to present the “empty suit” whose real plans and desires must be hidden and held in abeyance until after the election.

What do I see when I see Barack Obama?

I see a far-left liberal democrat trying to cobble a coalition of disparate groups, all vying for political power, prestige and profits from an Obama administration. A man whose voting record puts him to the farthest left of all of his Senate colleagues including the notoriously liberal Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton, who I feel is ideologically akin to a Marxist. All favoring the “collective” over the rights of “individual” citizens. All engaging in social engineering and wealth redistribution. The very type of people whose guiding principle is “don’t do as I do, do as I say.”

I see an angry black man who sat in a church year-after-year, for twenty years, absorbing the angry anti-white, anti-American vitriol of his spiritual mentor, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. A man who may be affecting the neutral mask of sensibility so as not to scare “white America.” A man who sees everything:  first, through the prism of self-interest, then through the prism of race, and then through the prism of power. Some say Obama joined the Trinity United Church of Christ for political reasons and to bolster his street credibility. The fact that he did not leave it sooner and quickly move to disavow the hate speech coming from his spiritual mentor says that he is loyal above all, but lacks the foresight, strength and leadership to lead America in these perilous times. I see a man with the same soft-spoken self-assured demeanor as Louis Farrakhan. And while I do not believe Barack Obama is a virulent anti-Semite or anti-white racist, I still am unsure of what he does represent.

I see an old-time Chicago-style democrat with more than a nodding acquaintance with cronyism, political favoritism and outright corruption. A good friend of Tony Rezko, the convicted Chicago influence peddler.

But most of all, I see an inexperienced Junior Senator whose pronouncements on certain aspects of foreign policy lead me to believe that his liberal ideas will provide additional aid and comfort to the enemy while, at the same time, his domestic policies will be weakening our military and creating chaos with economy. Whatever confluence of events allowed him to get this far in presidential politics, I see another empty-headed democrat concentrating on their “feelings” and not able to make the hard choices necessary to lead America on behalf of all Americans.

The spinmeisters have done their job …

I do see Barack Obama as an empty slate. Unfortunately my intelligence, as well as my native gut feeling, will not allow me to project my hope or need for change  onto his candidacy because I do not believe he can rise to the level of expertise or knowledge required by the President of the United States. I cannot believe he can overcome viewing everything through the prism of race and politics to serve all Americans. And cannot trust his hack democrat advisors to fill the gap with their old self-aggrandizing and shop-worn political theories.

For those who want to call me a racist …

Outside of my family and friends, I really don’t care what most people think and am somewhat immune from labeling. I find most people who consider themselves community activists or  representatives of their people to be racist, earning their livings off the backs of their followers and those who are short-sighted and cannot see that these people talk about hope, talk about change, talk … talk … talk – but do nothing to effect the change they claim to want.

If the black community, which is far from monolithic, wants to support a presidential candidate, let them put forth the name of Colin Powell. A man whose background and achievements make Barack Obama look like an empty suit. A man whose capability for leadership is undisputed and whose capacity for learning and understanding both foreign and domestic affairs mark him a candidate who I would support – no matter what party he may be affiliated. A man who makes John McCain look like an aging politician seeking that last hurrah. I will dust off my Colin Powell for President pins and wear them proudly.

But make no mistake about it, I will vote for John McCain over Barack Obama because, no matter what McCain’s past voting record tells us, I know he is a patriot and willing to defend the United States against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

What can YOU do?

Study the two major candidates and their record of accomplishment. Overlook the style and ferret out the substance. The United States is at a historic crossroads where foreign and domestic policies over the next four years can either relieve or intensify the pain being felt by ordinary Americans just trying to go about their every-day lives.

Ignore the rah-rah glitz and glamour of staged events and realize that those who are endorsing a political candidate are doing it out of their own enlightened self-interest.

Ignore the surrogates. If the politician does not have the raw guts to state their position directly to the American people without using “disavowable” surrogates to float trial balloons, they do not deserve the Office of the Presidency.

Consider the fact that the democrats have done more to weaken this nation, militarily and domestically with their far-left “the planet over people” policies, that they cannot be trusted on matters of national defense, energy independence or any other critical area.

Vote for those who are willing to rationally study the issue of global warming on a scientific basis rather than engaging in a specious Enron-style “cap and trade” system to increase the size of government, to enhance government’s power, to raise taxes and to make the mega-rich even richer.

Vote for those who will enforce the sovereignty of the United States and change the immigration policy to insure that newborns assume the nationality of their parents and that we do not continue to dilute the American culture with poor and illiterate people who refuse to assimilate to the point where they can vote us out of our own homes.

Do not vote for a political party. Both parties have plundered the United States treasury while pandering to the special interests. They have ignored energy independent for at least 50 years and watched while our country became dependent on foreign oil. It is time to elect ethical politicians (if there is such an animal) who put America before party, prestige, power and personal profits.

Do not vote for any candidate or current politician who is willing to subvert the safety, security, sovereignty and economic strength of the United States or limit an individual's right of self-defense for their personal philosophy, power, prestige or profits.
