McCain: You can tell a lot about a candidate by his endorsements -- in this case they scream LIBERAL DEMOCRAT!
Conservative: compared to what?
When the farthest "left" liberal in the Senate refers to fellow Senator McCain as a "conservative," you need to take notice. That's right, Barack Obama continually refers to McCain as being a "conservative." The problem is that an examination of Obama's positions might make fellow lefty Hillary Clinton seem almost conservative.
For all of his posturing as a "conservative," look who is supporting John McCain...
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (angling for a prestigious position in the Cabinet or a major ambassadorial post)
Texas Governor Rick Perry
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani (angling for Attorney General or a Supreme Court nomination)
Sen. Susan Collins of Maine
Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine
Democrat Congressman Joe Lieberman
If that were not proof enough that McCain is the darling of the liberal set, just consider his endorsement by far-left liberal publications like the New York Times and the LA Times.
Conclusion: He is a RINO (Republican In Name Only) as are his so-called "Republican" pals like Schwarzenegger and Giuliani.
Here is a man who has spent a lifetime biting the conservative Republican hand that feeds him.
He has made an attempt to stifle free speech (McCain-Feingold), turn illegal aliens into super citizens with rights not available to ordinary citizens (McCain-Kennedy) and to have America shoulder the burden of global warming (McCain-Lieberman).
He co-sponsored the Dream Act which would have provided "in-state tuition" fees to illegal aliens while forcing American soldiers to pay out of state tuition. He voted to mandate that the United States consult Mexico before building any portion of the border fence. McCain voted to give retroactive Social Security benefits to illegal aliens
Then there is the "McCain Anti-Torture Amendment" would confer American Constitutional rights (due-process) to terrorists who would be brought to this country to be tried in United States Courts -- not as enemy combatants wanting to kill our soldiers and citizens, but as common criminals.
Where he stands -- with his liberal friends...
McCain supports universal health care coverage and increased social benefits.
McCain voted twice to disallow the Bush's tax cuts.
McCain wont drill for oil in the widerness.
Hypocrite...
John McCain has refused to accept the presidential public financing program he once championed -- knowing that the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reforms are almost worthless. Under the public program, McCain would have been limited to about $54 million on the primaries and caucuses. Of course, some of the other candidates spent more than that prior to the Iowa caucus.
Old Boy's network...
McCain was involved in the Keating Five scandal which saw five prominent Senators: Alan Cranstin (D-CA); Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ); John Glenn (D-OH); John McCain (R-AZ); and Donald W. Riegle, Jr. (D-MI), acting to interfere with the official investigation of Charles Keating and his Lincoln Saving & Loan which sold almost worthless, uninsured, re-purchase agreements to senior citizens who were pressured to convert their FDIC-insured accounts to these pieces of paper backed by nothing more than the promise of Lincoln Savings and Loan to repay the principal with interest. You may notice that McCain was the ONLY Republican Senator to be involved -- along with his democrat friends -- which serves to point out that McCain doesn't just extend a hand across the aisle, he physically crosses the road.
Bad Tempered Contrarian...
By any accounts, McCain remains a loose canon -- from his early life when he was almost uncontrollable to the present day where he pugnaciously flaunts his little-man (5'7") complex.
Gun shy and possible weak on defense...
McCain is a liberal democrat and cannot be trusted to do much more than scream and shout at the enemy. In spite of his military background, there are doubts he understands the use of force as a deterrent. He was conditioned by terrible pain and suffering and probably remains with a Vietnam-era mindset.
There is a chance that he will balk at defending the United States by increasing the military and engaging in the necessary covert and overt operations that keep up safe and secure...
"A day or two after the Forrestal incident, McCain told New York Times reporter R. W. Apple, Jr. in Saigon that, "It's a difficult thing to say. But now that I've seen what the bombs and the napalm did to the people on our ship, I'm not so sure that I want to drop any more of that stuff on North Vietnam.
There is no doubt in my mind that McCain is an honorable man, someone who was tortured unmercifully by the enemy, an American war hero. But I also believe that, due to his personal experience, he is gun shy and will not treat a barbaric enemy with the ruthlessness required to engender enough fear and respect that they will not attack us domestically.
John McCain = George Bush
In my mind McCain is similar in nature (perhaps not so genial) to George W. Bush and will probably act somewhat in a similar manner when it comes to governing our nation.
I also have reservations about Romney, but consider Huckabee to be a well-spoken and presentable religious zealot. Therefore, I respectfully request you to consider Mitt Romney as the Republican choice on super Tuesday.
[X] ROMNEY
When a democrat runs against a Republican like McCain who acts like a democrat -- you vote democrat! Never forget he tried to sell out the government to Mexico! A vote for Huckabee or Ron Paul is 1/2 of a vote for McCain.
Do not vote for any candidate or current politician who is willing to subvert the safety, security, sovereignty and economic strength of the United States or limit an individual's right of self-defense for their personal philosophy, power, prestige or profits.

And I was wondering if you could talk a little bit about what your discussions were with him in 2004, how far it went, who approached whom... if there was any "there" there."
