Religion and Special Interests in America: Will Christian or [insert group name here] Crazies Subvert the Political Process?
What does abortion have to do with national defense, our crumbling infrastructure, and the waste and fraud in our nation's contracting process?
What purpose does the separation of church and state doctrine really mean?
Why do the citizens of this great nation allow themselves to be segmented and divided along racial, ethnic, religious or economic lines -- all to the benefit of power- and profit-seeking politicians?
Why do not more people recognize the power politics tactic of "divide and conquer?"
The problem with America now is that it has become so polarized and equally balanced, that the minority has assumed the rule over the majority. That's absolutely right. The "minority" now controls America and can virtually ignore the silent majority.
If you disbelieve this statement, consider the following fact. In a narrowly divided electorate, the leaders of all parties must appeal to the small number of voters who may, if the vote "en masse" overcome the "tipping point" where a political party can retain or regain political power.
The question of how big is the voting gap and exactly what combination of minorities must be courted to exceed this number is a life-threatening matter for the politicians and their political pollsters, pundits, consultants and advisors.
And it is destroying AMERICA!
Ethics have given way to expediency. Moral values are injected into the building of bridges. Appropriation bills meant for a worthwhile, almost veto-proof, single purpose are larded down with amendments providing pork to the special interests and minority crazies who voted in the last election or who are being courted to vote in the next election cycle.
But there is an ANSWER!
It has long been assumed by the political ruling class and their paid advisors that ONLY the motivated, those concerned with their own special interests, will actually turnout to vote. The trick to winning an election has devolved into appealing only to those who support your position and who can be motivated to vote in your favor.
The chief motivators have traditionally been fear and freebies. [Insert your most horrible fears and prejudices here] and [the freebies you want the most here] and vote for this or that candidate.
Let us consider for a moment a recent article which has appeared in an article by Michael Scherer writing for Salon.com.
Religious right may blackball Giuliani
"Christian conservative leaders privately consider supporting a third-party, antiabortion candidate should Rudy Giuliani win the GOP nomination. "
"A powerful group of conservative Christian leaders decided Saturday at a private meeting in Salt Lake City to consider supporting a third-party candidate for president if a pro-choice nominee like Rudy Giuliani wins the Republican nomination. "
"The meeting of about 50 leaders, including Focus on the Family's James Dobson, the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins and former presidential candidate Gary Bauer, who called in by phone, took place at the Grand America Hotel during a gathering of the Council for National Policy, a powerful shadow group of mostly religious conservatives. James Clymer, the chairman of the U.S. Constitution Party, was also present at the meeting, according to a person familiar with the proceedings."
"The decision confirms the fears of many Republican Party officials, who have worried that a Giuliani nomination would irrevocably split the GOP in advance of the 2008 general election, given Giuliani's relatively liberal stands on gay unions and abortion, as well as his rocky marital history."
"Dobson, who is one of the nation's most outspoken Christian leaders, has previously announced that he does not support Giuliani, Arizona Sen. John McCain or former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson as nominees for the Republican Party."
If the Republicans or any other party leaders are worried about injecting non-issues into the debate for national office, why not return to the principle of limited government which is always being espoused by the conservative Republicans. Simply make abortion a states rights issue and remove it from national politics.
Why should abortion be of any concern when the Islamo-fascists want to kill every non-Muslim man, woman and child anyway? Why should the taxpayers be forced to pay for something that goes against their religious, moral or medical beliefs? We need to remove these types of political impediments from the system in order to return our governmental leadership to rational, sane leaders who emulate our founding fathers.
We need to disempower the crazies of all types and stripes from exerting undue influence on our government in these times of national peril. (And I am not speaking of global warming!)
We need to get out the vote. To return our nation to its representative democracy roots. We need to dilute the influence of the crazies by insuring that the silent majority reigns supreme over those who vote only for special interest causes -- without considering their impact on the nation as a whole.
What can YOU do?
Make sure that your relatives, friends and neighbors are registered to vote and have either requested an absentee ballot or have made advance provisions for going to the polls on election day. It doesn't even matter what party they belong to... just that they are informed and vote.
Start a voter discussion among your chosen group. Do not advocate any position other than to get out the vote.
Ignore the crazies. There will always be rabid partisans and people acting out of special interests. Hopefully, most people will vote their pocketbook and to preserve the American way of life. Therefore, the more votes, the more normalcy is injected back into the political process. Hopefully diluting the influence of the crazies of all stripes and returning our government back to its core necessity of protecting our sovereignty, providing for national defense, and providing the economic and political framework where all people, no matter what their belief, can peacefully co-exist and be guarantee life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Do not vote for any candidate or current politician who is willing to subvert the safety, security and sovereignty of the United States for personal power, prestige or profits.
