PREPARING THE BATTLEFIELD: THE UNFAIRNESS DOCTRINE
I drive approximately 140 miles roundtrip to work and back. In spite of two mobile phones and a variety of entertainment choices, I most often listen to talk radio. I switch between local celebrities (Bill Handle, John and Ken, Larry Elder, Al Rantel,) and the syndicated heavyweights (Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly) as I drive. In addition I sometimes set my radio on scan and randomly cruise the dial.
I cannot listen to any one talk jock continuously and consistently because of the "repetition" factor. But I do appreciate the news, some special guests and some of the spirited debate.
When I tried to listen to so-called "liberal" talk radio, it was virtually unlistenable. Regardless of who I was listening to, most jokes fell flat and I was tired of hearing that the sky was falling and the world was in the midst of a catastrophic this or that. These people were, quite frankly, depressing.
They committed the ultimate radio sin: not so much by misstating their facts, but they were not amusing or informative enough to hold my attention for more than a few moments.
Now we have legislators ready to insert the faceless, but partisan, bureaucrats at agencies such as the Federal Communications Commission into monitoring the airwaves to ferret out those who do not lend equal time to both sides.
This is a ridiculous proposition. Assuming you are not a psychopath or sociopath and can recognize the difference between right and wrong: why would you give equal time to "evil" just to balance the time given to "good?"
Other than the fact that most legislators are isolated from their constituency by their acolytes, not to mention the power and wealth swirling through the "political environment," these are the very last people in the world that should even use the word fairness. "Fairness to who?" might be a more appropriate question.
What we see is a concerted effort by those on the left, mostly democrats, who claim that talk radio and cable TV is upsetting the political process by both somehow misrepresenting legislators and their positions and by urging their listeners to actions which is disrupting the lives of the political elite.
They make no mention of the demonstrable lack of fairness in the print media, in the educational curriculum, or in nightly news.
As a demonstration of the falsity of this proposition, consider the rather sharp questioning of a United States Senator who appeared to defend the "amnesty for illegal aliens" legislation that was the topic of the day.
Imagine the temerity and ballsiness of the host who kept asking the same two questions again and again in different forms.
"Senator, with all due respect, have you read the entire bill?" "Senator, again with all due respect, have you or your colleagues performed a cost/benefit analysis on the impact this legislation will have on the United States?"
To what result? The Senator hemmed and hawed and tried to change the subject. In the end he admitted, just before he hung up on the host claiming the host was being unfair, that he had not read the entire bill because the bill was still being written -- and he had read his staff's summaries and, no, there were no cost or benefit studies done as the legislation was drafted in closed door sessions (make that "in secret") and nobody really knew enough about the bill to really perform such an analysis.
Now comes those who believe that the presentation should have been fair and balanced. How, by telling emotional, heart-wrenching stories of children separated by their parents who were forced to flee their native lands due to the lack work?
Which then can be countered with the position that, here in Los Angeles, the quality, availability, and cost of healthcare and the quality of education are all out of control because of the influx of illegal aliens who cost (according to a Heritage Foundation Report) $22,000 over and above what they may contribute.
To be followed by a rant on the essential goodness of man and the need to treat each individual as we want to be treated.
It was only on cable TV and talk radio that the legislation was fairly presented (with section numbers) and was discussed by those with opposite viewpoints.
But no matter how the "fairness" doctrine scenario plays out, the truth will prevail. These illegal aliens took a chance when the broke our laws in sneaking into the Country, in using false documents, in driving without licenses and insurance.
And, the simple truth is that no amount of amnesty or forgiveness is going to pay for their health or car insurance.
Enter the special interests: The unions who desperately need their dues and their bodies for potential strikes. The democrats who see voters who will vote democratic to provide even greater social benefits with the costs spread among the taxpayers. Possibly for the states or federal government to pick up the tab for their insurance and healthcare. The employers who see a continuing source of cheap labor. And the elitists who see a combined American Union with a common currency (Amero), informal borders and access to the rich natural resources to be tapped in foreign lands without extraneous surcharges.
However, the dirty little secret is that all of these so-called benefits will be bought and paid for by the American taxpayer who will eventually be taxed into that socialistic heaven: equality! No equal to those with money or power -- the elites, but with other ordinary citizens.
The fairness doctrine is only another means to silence our opposition to the takeover of the United States by a dynasty of elites who already possess enough power and money to insulate them from any adverse consequences other than having to learn Spanish to speak to their household help.
These traitors to America are now shaping the battlefield for the minds of Americans. To drown dissent in a cacophony of noise which will distract those who are trying to make America understand that they are under assault from within. An assault that is every bit as damaging -- perhaps more damaging than a nuclear strike on one of our cities by the Islamo-fascists.
These political traitors, on both sides of the aisle, merely reflect the bidding of their masters: the elites and special interests which have continued to corrupt politics far beyond the corrupt practices of Mayor Daley (the elder), and Presidents Richard Nixon and Lyndon Johnson.
Consider that the fairness doctrine could mandate that an audience listen to the hyper-bloviating of an Al Gore in response to a credible scientist?
Fairness is determined by the marketplace. If the subject is bogus, the presenter lacks credibility, or if the conversation is shrill and unappealing -- it will be switched off. That should be the only control on what is being aired. Nothing more.
As for John Podesta, a Clinton apologist, whose group authored the study of a "imbalance in the ownership of broadcast media, I, for the life of me, cannot see what difference it might make if a station is owned by a radical lesbian feminist or by a broad, diversified group of shareholders. If the management cannot obtain and sustain an audience that will support advertising it is doomed no matter which political point of view is presented. As leftist Air America quickly found out.
Perhaps what irritates those voting for increased governmental intervention in our everyday lives is that the material presented on talk radio and cable TV somehow resonates with the American heartland. And what scares them is that maybe, just maybe, this is the time when ordinary taxpaying citizens will rise up and throw the bums out of their cushy offices.
What can YOU do?
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, LET ANY LEGISLATOR OR SPECIAL INTEREST ABROGATE YOUR FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH. TO CREATE YOUR OWN POLITICAL SPEECH OR TO LISTEN TO THE PROGRAM OF YOUR CHOICE WITHOUT GOVERNMENTAL INTERFERENCE.
Tell your elected representatives that is guaranteed political suicide to promote anything like a "fairness doctrine."
Support the legislative efforts of Mike Pence to counter any attempt to curtail your free speech rights.
VOTE THE TRAITORS TO AMERICA OUT IN THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS -- SEND A CLEAR MESSAGE TO THE POLITICIANS: YOU SERVE AT THE PLEASURE OF THE PEOPLE AND CAN EASILY LOSE YOUR JOB.
