Later today, Washington, D.C. and other areas will be the site of “Unite the Right” rallies being billed as supporting “white civil rights.” These rallies were designed to occur on the one-year anniversary of violent clashes between white supremacists and counter-protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia over the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee. As if history could be erased, Taliban-style, by removing or destroying historical artifacts.
Once again, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel was right; the radical progressive socialist democrats should never let a crisis go to waste. Even if that crisis is an artificial one created out of whole cloth and faulty logic.
I cannot imagine the level of incompetence of the city officials in Charlottesville, Virginia who appear to be preparing for an upcoming riot – even though no protest or gathering permits have been issued for activities on the anniversary of a real riot caused by a so-designated neo-Nazi rally. Of course, what they do not mention is that it wasn’t the neo-Nazis destroying their city, but radical progressive groups urged on by activists and agitators, some from out of the area. Not to mention opportunistic gangs that were more interested in looting stores.
How radical were the counter-protesters?
In July 2017, the ecumenical and interfaith clergy group Congregate Charlottesville called for a thousand members of the clergy to counter-protest at the rally. The Charlottesville House of Prayer also gathered at the site to pray. Groups counter-protesting included representatives from the National Council of Churches, Black Lives Matter, Anti-Racist Action, the Democratic Socialists of America, the Workers World Party, the Revolutionary Communist Party, Refuse Fascism, Redneck Revolt, the Industrial Workers of the World, the Metropolitan Anarchist Coordinating Council, and Showing Up for Racial Justice. Members of the Antifa movement were also in attendance. <Source>
It is astounding that organizations that advocate the overthrow of the United States government, some by violent means, would be counter-protesting groups with similar odious ideologies and intents.
The city appears to be going into a self-imposed lockdown that not only makes the lives of residents more difficult but actually sets the stage for a confrontation that will be carried by the mainstream media that cannot resist being present at a potential event. The fact that they might be interviewing themselves, bringing sought-after media attention to local activists and agitators, and becoming part of the story with their staged events is not being mentioned.
The local paper, The Daily Progress, is reporting a massive police presence on Saturday…
Officers from the Virginia State Police, Charlottesville and other local departments are closing off access to most of the Downtown Mall and erecting barricades to prevent vehicle traffic on downtown streets. Officers towed numerous cars from the restricted downtown area, about 18 blocks of streets between Water Street and High Street and McIntire Road and Avon Street.
Five buses dropped officers and gear downtown while city crews erected fences and barriers around Market Street Park and Court Square Park, which house statues of Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, respectively.
At the same time, University of Virginia officials blocked off access to most areas of the UVa Grounds with fencing and posted police officers to enforce closure of the campus. Crews also installed numerous surveillance cameras on the Grounds during the day. Police plan to restrict pedestrian access to the Downtown Mall to two Water Street checkpoints. UVa plans to restrict pedestrian access to one checkpoint leading to the Lawn. <Source>
Of course, the dangerous radical racists and communists known as Black Lives Matter and Antifa are primed and ready to rumble should the neo-Nazis actually show up. It is incredible that the media speaks of white supremacists and neo-Nazis but rarely mention that Black Lives Matters is a radical
It is already being reported that a known violent and radical progressive group is already protesting without a permit…
(2 p.m. local time) About an hour ago, a group of about three dozen anti-fascist protesters marched peacefully on the Downtown Mall carrying banners saying "good night to white supremacy." The group attempted to walk directly from a Water Street parking lot where they gathered to the 4th Street memorial to Heather Heyer, who was killed in a car attack during last year’s rally.
Police redirected marchers to the state police-controlled checkpoint on Second Street and Water Street where their bags were quickly searched and they were allowed entry. Surrounded by media, the marchers walked to the memorial, stopping periodically to regroup. The group requested those who followed them with cameras to give them a couple of minutes at the location of the car attack to pay respects. <Source>
And the police-state tactics are being used against residents.
(12:00 p.m.) A local man known for his pro-firearm politics and advocacy for veterans was arrested for purchasing a variety of banned items from a downtown pharmacy and carrying them on his walker in public. At least a dozen bicycle cops surround the man, identified as John Miska, and arrested him on the Downtown Mall for having a case of a canned soft drink, a razor and other items specifically banned by the city's emergency declaration. Miska was also legally and openly carrying a firearm. He said he purchased the goods and left them publicly open as a protest to the restrictions. It is legal to purchase the items, but under emergency restrictions they must be left in the bag with a receipt. <Source>
The bad guys have already won, using political paranoia, political posturing and grandstanding, and the mainstream media to give endless mention to their cause which might, at most, draw a few dozen participants. The opposition also won, getting media face-time while they attempted to legitimize their radical progressive cause. The only losers were the residents who were inconvenienced and the taxpayers who had to pick up the tab for this non-event.
I wonder if any of the city’s political class contemplated a “false flag” operation to legitimize their outrageous response.
Had the police performed their sworn duty a year ago – using the force necessary to detain, arrest, and prosecute those who were rioting, perhaps today’s show of staged force would not have been necessary. The only thing that seems to be missing from the equation is those, especially those in criminal gangs, who use the opportunity of a protest to cover their smash-and-grab looting.
We are so screwed.
