A Nobel Prize-winning theoretical physicist, Max Karl Ernst Ludwig Planck (1858 – 1947), may have provided the explanation of “what’s wrong with America today.”
The so-called “greatest generation” knew economic hardship, war, and that a virulent political ideology could result in deaths greater than those of the holocaust. It was a time before an anti-religious movement and when families were not separated by government policy in order to obtain government benefits disguised as a helping hand. There was community charity but no right to government handouts. There were fewer professional politicians and less tolerance for governmental corruption pandering to the special interests. Democrats did not hate America and were as patriotic as the next individual. As with all things in the cycle of life, this generation has passed on, leaving individuals unmoored from traditional values and influenced by celebrity and self-aggrandizement. Made worse by the social media which guarantees that the bizarre, outrageous, and unconventional will go viral – to be duplicated by a generation of wannabes whose concept of self requires external validation.
Enter the concept of accepting deviance and a departure from patriotism as the “new normal.”
It appears that Planck had more than an idea about the nature of nature in a quantum state, but an insight that resonates as an explanation of what’s wrong with America today.
"A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.” ~ Max Planck
Hence Planck described the very essence of the “new normal” where behavior and events that would have been abhorrent in the recent past are now divorced from their historical consequences and acceptable to be applied in the here and now. Paraphrasing, political change does not happen by changing minds, but by changing generations. A too-perfect rationale for what we are experiencing today.
Nowhere on Earth has long-term socialism/communism worked without the imposition of freedom-squelching authoritarianism and increasing misery among the population. Unfortunately, those who control our public education system live in the proverbial “ivory towers” where the theoretical is often equivalent to the practical and a “thought exercise” in impossible utopianism is given an undeserved validity if it is accepted as a consensus by so-called intelligentsia. Hence students are not provided with instruction in philosophy and history, but philosophy and history viewed through the distorted prism of political ideology.
Ask students and individuals to describe what it is that they are promoting while marching around with picket signs and you get nonsensical answers or the top-line talking points provided by the event sponsors. But, many cannot even tell you the basics of today’s governing structure or who holds office at the local, state, and federal level. It is almost if a generation of mindless zombies has been created, where knowledge is something not to be learned, considered, and discussed – but to be accessed as pre-digested internet pabulum.
Bottom line …
Most progressive socialist democrats might be loud, they might be self-confident and assertive, but they are regurgitating the party line and blowing smoke out their ass.
We are so screwed – hence we need to maintain some semblance of control in the upcoming mid-term elections. Get out and vote.
