There is little or no doubt in my mind that President Donald Trump is a celebrity bully boy whose boast that he can deliver “top people” to serve in his administration. Here is an example of one the most ridiculous Trump appointments, Matthew Spencer Petersen, President Trump's nominee for a lifetime appointment as a district court judge. He is being questioned by Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) about his lack of judicial experience and knowledge of the law.
If the video is missing in the email version of this post, it can be found here and is well worth watching.
“My background is not in litigation... And I understand, and I appreciate this line of questioning. I understand the challenge that would be ahead of me if I were fortunate enough to become a district court judge. I understand that the path that many successful district court judges have taken has been a different one than I have taken. But as I mentioned in my earlier answer, I believe that the path that I have taken to be one who’s been in a decision-making role in somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 enforcement matters, overseen I don’t know how many cases in federal court the administration has been a party to during my time.”
Matthew Spencer Petersen (born 1970) is a member of the United States Federal Election Commission and a former nominee to be a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
With all of the well-credentialed, well-read, well-spoken, and well-qualified attorneys in the nation, what made Donald Trump or his surrogates pick this incompetent joke for a lifetime appointment as a judge. Could it be the hidden hand of Senator Orin Hatch (R-UT) who Trump has effusively praised and urged to run for an additional term in the Senate?
Bottom line …
It was bad enough that former President Barack Obama appointed incompetent, ignorant ideologues to various high-ranking positions, but one assumes that GOP can muster a minimal level of competence in choosing candidates for consequential positions. It is almost like letting the know-nothings in the Trump Organization manage the government without the benefit of behind-the-scenes fixers and closers.
We are so screwed.
