No! It is the responsibility of the individual that committed the act. And, that society cannot detect or deter crazies and criminals from committing heinous acts.
Nor can politicians legislate solutions that can control those who are crazy or criminal because they are people who do not abide by laws nor fear the consequences of their actions. Especially, if they do not value their own lives and are willing to commit suicide in the course of their acts.
But what about the next act of violence? …
The media is covering the incident 24/7, interviewing self-serving activists and agitators who are capitalizing on the event to advance their own agenda. And, in the process, may be creating the next copy-cat killer or demonstrating how a loser can rise to national prominence with a heinous act. Possibly indirectly encouraging another sick individual to go bigger and better.
Bottom line …
Tell the facts. Cover the trial and its aftermath. In a nation of 320-million residents, this is a relatively rare event, not a common everyday occurrence like the continuing deaths in the inner cities that get little or no coverage.
Do not continue to allow for the wanton exploitation of this man-made tragedy by those who are promoting their own agendas, causes, or brands.
