Your small business, in this case a hamburger stand, is located in a tough part of town where street crime is rampant. What right does the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Police Department have to tell you how to run your business to make up for their failure to control area-wide criminal activity?
Granted, some businesses may attract criminals and/or criminal activity, but when you run an honest, ethical business that provides a service to the community, who are the authorities to tell you how to run that business or attempt to force you out of business? What about the liquor stores, pot shops and 7-11 stores? What about the rampant drug dealing on city property – in the parks, on the beaches and in downtown Los Angeles?
This is the face of government tyranny …
Bottom line …
The local government and law enforcement authorities serve us, not the other way around. Somewhere, over time, law enforcement has failed to do its job and is seeking easy solutions where there are none. If the City cared about eliminating the burger stand, let them condemn the property and pay the owners a fair price.
