For months I have been pissing and moaning about the Republican's refusal to do much more than ride the wave of voter discontent with President Obama, his Administration, his programs and the hyper-partisan democrat Congress.
In my view, the GOP is waiting until the last minute to suggest a slate of leaders, a solid platform which delineates the Republican position from that of the democrats and an attempt to incorporate conservatives and members of the teabag party into the working branch of the party. All of that in an addition to preventing the democrats from subverting the election by choosing weak Republican candidates in the primary process and fundraising.
Selling Fear …
But what do I find? THE GOP is planning to run an Obama-style campaign much in the manner that they were successful in demonizing and running against George Bush. And to this end, they actually put out a 72-page PowerPoint presentation to be used in fundraising efforts which said:
“What can you sell when you do not have the White House, the House or the Senate…?
Save the country from trending toward Socialism!
A theme which I find offensive on three levels!
One, it implies that the party in power is going to sell-out the taxpaying American public to the special interests in return for campaign donations.
Two, it implies that there is absolutely no difference between the Republicans and democrats when it comes to crony capitalism and corruption.
And three, it implies that the GOP is content to follow the Obama campaign model by demonizing Obama in the same manner that they demonized George Bush.
A theme which played directly into an Obama fundraising effort …

This week, a confidential fundraising memo from the Republican National Committee leaked to the press, detailing a new, desperate effort to manipulate voters and crush health reform. The plan calls for "an aggressive campaign capitalizing on 'fear' of President Barack Obama and a promise to 'save the country from trending toward socialism.'" What's worse, the presentation included offensive caricatures of Democratic leaders, including President Obama as the Joker from Batman. So while President Obama was organizing a bipartisan meeting to discuss real solutions, and incorporating the best ideas into his proposal, right-wing political operatives and their special interest allies were preparing a campaign of fear and falsehoods to personally attack the President and deny Americans the care we need. Enough. We cannot let the lowest form of politics derail the progress we've made for the American people. To counter their attacks, we'll need to take our message to the air and to doorsteps across the country -- and with a final vote on health reform expected in a matter of weeks, there's no time to lose. Please donate $5 or more today to help us defeat the attacks and pass reform. |
The GOP doesn’t get it …
The American people have said ENOUGH!
To the casual observer, there is but one political party in the United States, that of the wealthy, powerful and connected people. And it has two wings, the Republicans and the democrats. Both parties being for sale to the highest bidder. And this has led us to the brink of social, military and financial disaster.
Americans are looking for leadership, not political ideologues with a toxic agenda of transformative change. They want their jobs back. They want their savings to earn a decent rate of interest. They want to know that their future and that of their children is somewhat secure and predictable. They want to know that they can purchase healthcare at an affordable price. They want to know that the contract they made with the nation in regards to Social Security and Medicare will be delivered as promised.
We are a center-right nation which has been laid low by a confluence of malfeasance and outright evil. The malfeasance, incompetence, corruption and crony capitalism of the Bush Administration and the toxic socialistic agenda of the far left as being sold by the Obama Administration and the Congress.
But we do not want to be told that Obama and his fellow travelers are socialists. We want to be presented with the solution that will fix this out-of-control world in which the ordinary citizen is an unwilling participant.
What the hell are the Republicans going to do for “we the people?” What makes the GOP different from the democrats? Why should we believe a party which seems as thoroughly corrupt as the party across the aisle? And who is going to lead us out of the political wilderness – perhaps in the style of Ronald Reagan?
Bottom line …
I don’t want to hear about fear. I have enough fear already. I want to hear about principled conservative solutions and the leadership to implement them. Until you get to that point, the GOP is no different from the democrats. Both unworthy to lead our great nation.
