Climatic Change is Not a Problem of the Future

The diagnosis of the future of the planet cannot be gloomier. To the numerous elements that damage the environment, we must now add others, like the direct consequences of turning food into fuel, established as the economic policy guideline of the United States, designed and defended at all costs by the US president.

The issue has been presented on many occasions as a warning of the potential danger that, if continued, will affect the indispensable conditions for the life on the planet. Evidently at the service of the large transnationals, which produce 25 percent of the contaminating gas emissions, the White House has justified its position and has systematically refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol.

The inhabitants of the planet are required to act urgently. Maybe it's not too late.

Carlos, Thank you for reading my blog and responding. I am afraid we must disagree on this issue.

First, is the matter of urgency -- this is a natural phenomenon occurring over thousands of years. Any actions of man may not be measurable or even apparent for hundreds of years.

Second, is the matter of observational error -- Even with today's experiments and measurements there is significant systemic error which casts doubts on the hypothesis that the global temperature will continue to rise, rather than rise and fall, regressing to an unknown mean.

Third, is the matter of the root causes -- which appear to be based on the water vapor cycle and the relationship between solar output and cloud cover. CO2 and other "greenhouse" gasses are an insignificant factor when measured against water vapor.

And fourth, the United States' refusal to sign-on to the Kyoto protocol -- this is problematical because it would violate the sovereignty of the United States by ceding control over our economy, industry and energy creation to a foreign body composed of those whose interests are mainly anti-growth, anti-nuclear and definitely anti-American. The two significant sources of man-made global pollution, China and India, are not covered or will receive waivers regarding pollution standards.

I am assuming by your comment that "turning food into fuel" you are considering "biomass" conversions which require more energy than the creation of some conventional fuels. I regard this as a "fad" and do not consider the process to be a significant component of energy policy.

My vote is for nuclear energy which is clean, abundant, renewable and, other than considerations of weapons production and spent fuel requirements, is the future of all energy production. Unfortunately, the same "environmental crowd" that is trying to dictate current energy policy has been against nuclear energy for 50 years.

Anyway, thanks for writing. You may want to read some of my other global warming materials located in the "global warming" section of my blog.
