UPDATE: According to the Reverend Walter Coleman, pastor of the church in Chicago where illegal alient Arellano had taken refuge, she has been deported and is free and in Tijuana. Coleman, who spoke to her via telephone claims, "She is in good spirits. She is ready to continue the struggle against the separation of families from the other side of the border."
No matter what the media or illegal alien activists will have you believe, she still was guilty of criminal acts involving the falsification of social security numbers and breaching airport security by presenting false and misleading information.
Making an illegal alien scofflaw into an immigration rights activist highlights the vulnerabilities of the current immigration system. Where is the fence? ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is probablly applauding the media firestore as they toughen immigration in order to promote the Administration's SHAMnesty program.
According to an Associated Press Report, the illegal alien woman, who was convinced by a group of church and illegal immigrant supporters to avoid deportation by seeking sanctuary in a church, has been arrested. Her sanctuary stunt, ostensibly to avoid being deported -- which would have separated her from her 8-year old American son -- risked her son's welfare as she traveled from her sanctuary church in Chicago to Los Angeles to campaign to immigration reform. If she was so concerned for her son, it would have been a simple matter to take him back to Mexico, once again, to avoid any separation. And, of course, the question arises: did the church or the activists give her up to the authorities to create more media attention?
Making a criminal scofflaw into an immigration rights activist produces mixed results as it highlights the vulnerabilities of the current system.
"'From the time I took sanctuary the possibility has existed that they arrest me in the place and time they want,' she said in Spanish. 'I only have two choices. I either go to my country, Mexico, or stay and keep fighting. I decided to stay and fight.'"
Tough talk from a person who should have been deported and is here illegally and under false pretenses. Comparable to a burglar that breaks into your home and demands a softer mattress.
Notice that she did not avail herself of the legal procedures that provide for compassionate relief for illegal aliens with children who are American citizens. Notice that there is no extensive coverage of how America is going to continue to pay out large sums of assistance money to her as a result of her previous violation of the border to give birth to her son on American soil.
Proof positive that illegal aliens are a threat to homeland security. Multiple illegal entries and taking a "sensitive job."
"Arellano came to Washington state illegally in 1997. She was deported (with her child?) to Mexico shortly after, but returned and moved to Illinois in 2000, taking a job cleaning planes at O'Hare International Airport. "
Side Note: Where was the TSA and other authorities who were supposed to be conducting background checks on airport workers? Did the Administration's program of "non-enforcement" against illegal aliens play into enhancing the vulnerability of our nation's airports?
Other than comitting perjury on her job application and I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) form, she also was complicit in presenting false credentials, filing false tax documents...
"She was arrested in 2002 at O'Hare and later convicted of working under a false Social Security number. She was to surrender to authorities last August."
And the story and press coverage continues according to the particular media outlet's editorial and reportage agenda. Of course Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff and Commerce Secretary Gonzalez were probably in Canada preparing for the SPP handover of our government to Mexico. See "Selling Out America" here instead of being present for the "perp" walk that normally accompanies high profile arrests.
What can YOU do?
Realize this is a case of media exploitation by the illegal immigration activists as they try to gin up public support to demand that legislators revisit their flawed SHAMnesty legislation. The person they are trying to exploit is nothing more than another illegal alien who has breached the nation's airport security system while committing various crimes along the way.
Realize that those who use race and shout "racism" are often those who are the most racist among us. One activist groups is named "La Raza," the Race and has a functional motto of: "For the race: everything, for others: nothing."
Consider the most violent gangs in Los Angeles and elsewhere are comprised of illegal aliens. Consider that these alleged "good folks" are the ones driving without insurance, driving drunk, clogging emergency rooms, bringing down the educational level of our children, and creating chaos in the social security system with their forged and stolen numbers.
Do not support any legislator who is willing to give-in to the illegal alien lobby and support a plan which destroys the sovereignty of the United States while, at the same time, compromises our healthcare, education and retirement infrastructure.
Vote for those politicians who are rational enough to stem the tide of illegal aliens before starting to bail out the boat. Make them follow their own legislation and build the fence.
Seriously review the illegal alien influx and demand safer borders. Especially in light of the number of lives spared if illegal aliens were kept out of our country.
This may be the most important election of your lifetime: affecting you, your family, friends, co-workers and fellow citizens. Do the right thing: insist on protection first, followed by a rational plan that contains social and economic impact studies -- and then consider the immigration problem anew -- without input from today's power and publicity-seeking politicians.
